Had a hankering for Thai food but didn’t want to leave the comfort of home so onto Menulog and ordered from there. Browsed what was available and settled upon Curry Puffs and Pad Thai With Duck. It was quickly delivered to me.
The curry puffs were nice and crunchy with a lovely vegetarian filling served with a sweet and sour sauce. The pad thai had good pieces of duck throughout and a good flavour. Could’ve done with a tad more tamarind flavour.
This is the first Thai Restuarant I tried at New Town. Probably the closet one to uni!

Their food is quite oily and sweet, but free to tell them less sugar and oil. Always order Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao and Pad Kee Wee.
Good choice if you just want to grab some food in short time. It’s filling too!
Amazing customer service! Recently had a problem with menulog messing up the restaurant’s opening time. However the owner personally delivered my food and apologised when it wasn’t even their fault! And gave me 10 dollars compensation.
Close to Usyd, this is one of the cheapest place to eat. Big portions for the price you pay, just add $2 for a large size and you can eat till your heart's content.
Fantastic Thai noodle dish for dinner. Reasonably priced too. Will certainly be returning for another visit and would recommend others do too!
We had called in food from Charles Thai. Simply one of the best hot chilli basil fried rice with vegetables, we loved the extra dash of garlic in it, why can't everyone else make it this way! The yellow curry was thick and rich, for a change with grilled chicken... This dish was again among the best yellow curries we've had... Delicious. We'd ordered tom yum chicken as an entrée but ended up with the mains.... But this was quite authentic as well... Lapped it up happily... No complaints. Great food good quantity.... decent value for money.
Delicious, authentic Thai food. We go back at least two or three times every week because we've tried all the hundreds of Thai restaurants around, and Charles is undoubtedly the best. Best quality, best flavour, best value, best team.. Vege/vegan options are a win too.. One of those 'best kept secret' places, right in King St but still flying under the radar. Discover Charles for yourself before everybody else does.
This restaurant must be Newtown's best kept secret. Excellent quality and friendly service. We discovered it by accident and will definitely be going back! I think they also do home delivery. Their menu also has vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
Fantastic experience. Staff, food, environment, music and ambiance excelled. And changed since i was there last. I have lived in Newtown the last nine years and tried every thai restaurant up and down king st 10/10. Amazing food and they go out of their way to make the night extra special. Best Thai food around! The massaman is incredible and the yellow curry is absolutely amazing. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the service is great 5/5. A real undiscovered gem in Newtown.
Charles Thai is the perfect combination of scrumptious food with a delightful environment. The curry puffs, as a starter, are worth every sinful bite. We also tried the crying tiger - a delicious beef dish - but it was the yellow curry what sent me through the roof!
Cute restaurant with a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Staff are attentive and lovely, and they make an effort with small details and some nice extra touches to your meal. Food is authentic, sophisticated (better than your average Newtown Thai) and absolutely affordable. I've had nothing but positive experiences eating here
What makes this restaurant different is the quality of the service, nice music, and very good prices for the size of the portions, especially lunch. I eat here all the time, highly recommended.

This is my favourite Thai restaurant. The food tastes as though there is a god dwelling in the kitchen, and the staff are so lovely. My favourite dinners are the massamun lamb and the red curry duck. Such a charming restaurant.
This restaurant is fantastic! A huge selection of delicious and authentic Thai food...it's always fresh and the portions are large, without the expensive prices. The service is second to none! I've always found the staff at Charles Thai very friendly and helpful. I've recommended this place to my friends and colleagues, it's one of those restaurants which is the complete package! A real fine dining experience....with a lovely cosy atmosphere, that makes you want to return.
I always find the atmosphere here very relaxed, the ambiance cultivated by the quick and friendly staff is just right for an enjoyable lunch or dinner.
There are many delicious options for the very affordable lunch and dinner specials (I am a struggling student!), my personal favourites being the Chicken Pad Se-Ew and the Chicken Tom Yum Noodle Soup.
If you find yourself here for dinner I can recommend the Salt and Pepper Prawns for an entree and the Coconut Seafood for a main. The combination of flavours never fails to excite the taste buds, and for the price it's a winner every time I eat here.

Nice Thai food, good hospitality and special price for lunch. I made Thai food that I suppose to be and I expect to have, not too sweet. Well combination of salt sweet and spicy. I like that food a lot. Look forward to trying more menus there next chance!
