Really like this fried rice , best fried rice in sydney
Always come here for lunch! Their ayam tulang lunak with green chili sauce and nasi goreng is yummy. Their portion is generous. And their staff is friendly. My colleague tried their gado gado and fell in love with Indonesian food straight away. Despite whatever racism scandal they were on previously, i really think they're trying to serve their customer better. Give it a go when you're around.
The best Indonesian restaurant ever! And really friendly owner.
The best costumer service and never wait too long for my food, the food was delicious.. The best ketoprak, gado-gado, bakso!
The gado gado was excellent. Sauce was flavoursome, and the quality of the ingredients was very good. Within 30 minutes of opening their doors, every table was full too
Went to eat at the restaurant today.. food was very delicious.. I would definitely come back here again but this time I will bring the whole familia so be prepared for hungry people ha ha lol
Service Excellent no worries, very delicious. You will try this culinary, unique taste. Believe & try. Good destination, bring your family, friends, etc.
A hidden gem in the heart of Sydney - Willis Canteen is definitely one of the best place to go for Indonesian food and to experience first hand Indonesian hospitality!
The food is amazing and everyone that works there is extremely nice and very attentive.
My favourite would have to be the Gado Gado, Nasi Goreng with Chicken and their Soup Iga Goreng!
The idea of having the very authentic Indonesian in the heart of the city is definitely worth the visit! Will be coming back for lots more and you know it!
Friendly owner and good selection of food. My ultimate choice if longing for food from my home town.
I love the selection of local coffee and Indo snacks here :)

Really enjoyed Gado-gado ulek and sate in this restaurant. Very authentic Indonesia. Unfortunately we could not have sate padang. If I have more time (not bring 10 guests) will spend more time enjoying their cendol
Gado2, ketoprak and nasi goreng kampung is my all time fave, place is clean, affordable too... It's not the best of the best in the world, but it's worth it, try and you know what I'm talking about.
This is my local restaurant. Whenever I come to Willis Canteen, my family and I often order our favorite gado-gado with extra chilli, stir fried rice, meat balls or beef rib soup. They sell cendol, sweet traditional Indonesian dessert as well.
I love cooking and eating stir fried rice. However, no matter how hard I have tried, It is still difficult for me to cook Willis Canteen's style stir-fried rice (nasi goreng).
Even after the main chef of this restaurant, a friendly Chinese Indonesian which is also one of the owners, told me the recipes and let me watch his chef husband cook the nasi goreng.
Their nasi goreng is unbeatable! My mouth is watering while I am writing this review. In my mind, there is a full portion of stir fried rice, complete with a yummy fried chicken, a sunny side up egg, garnished with cucumber and tomato slices on a green plate. Yummmm!
I have been a huge fan of this authentic Indonesian cuisine since I arrived in Sydney five years ago. My family and I have tried various Indonesian restaurants around Sydney but we always come back to Willis Canteen for the real taste. Since the restaurant is pretty popular, I always call firts to order so that I don't need to wait for the long queue.
The staff are very friendly and the prices are reasonable.
It's just a short stroll from UTS Broadway. My recommendation will be Nasi Goreng Kampung, Gado-gado which is so yummmy, and Oxtail Soup. Really can't wait for the next visit.
One of the best Indonesian restaurants in Sydney. It is worth waiting for. i ate at this place two weeks ago, and they have the best Gado-Gado. Overall foods were great, services were awesome, and ambience is extraordinary.
Without a doubt the best gado gado in Sydney! Gado gado is my all-time favorite Indonesian dish. A great gado gado is predominantly defined by the peanut sauce (or the bumbu as Indos would say). In Sydney, most Indonesian restaurants take shortcuts, creating the sauce using peanut butter. But the legitimate way is to make it from scratch using peanuts, grinding it with an ulekan (mortar and pestle).
Two words spring to mind when I think of Willis Canteen. "Authentic" and "affordable". The iga penyet (fried beef spare ribs served with spicy sambal terasi) had plenty of meat on the bone, whilst the beef rendang was lovely, rich and had the perfect balance of spice. We had to try the gado gado as we'd heard it is a popular choice amongst diners, and we could see why. Definitely worth checking out.

if any of you miss your hometown food and you're too far from Kingsford, this place is your haven. The ketoprak is amazing and it tastes like that street ketoprak you eat in the gerobak. 10/10 recommendation.
I'm an Indonesian, and they clearly have the best gado-gado and ketoprak in Sydney! Rich and peanuty flavor.. Very authentic! Satay Padang was nice tooooo 😍😋 My indo food fix definitely!
Serving Indonesian food, for me this place still has the best gado gado (Indonesian Veggie Salad with Peanut Sauce) in Sydney! Better call them 1-2 hours ahead before coming so you don't have to wait for so long. The peanut sauce is so creamy, so nutty and sweet, it's just a perfect combination with the blanched assorted veggies. Their "ketoprak" is another thing you have to try, slightly different to gado gado, this version has vermicelli (it reminds me of vietnamese noodle salad) and the peanut sauce is runnier and less sweet compared to gado gado.
Definitely a must try if you have never tried gado-gado or ketoprak before
Been here twice already and my favourite food here is Gado-gado. If you are going to order gado-gado, you better give them a call prior to your visit because they have to make their own gado gado sauce. Their sate padang was also nice. The meat was juicy and tender

Look past their humble decor, dig into their specialty dishes: gado-gado, beef iga (short rib) either fried or in beef stock soup. Fans of trad Indonesian food rejoice!
If you are looking for an authentic home cooking Indonesian restaurant, this is the place!
Their "Gado-Gado" (Indonesian salad with peanut sauce) is the best! It is made to order and they grind the peanut sauce using Indonesian mortar and pestle, the method is time consuming but trust me it is worth the wait.
Tips: If you are going to try their Gado-Gado give them a call one hour prior to your arrival time to place the order, make sure you indicate the spiciness as well and remember to bring CASH.
My other fave dishes are Ribs Soup (Sup Iga) and Soft Bone Fried Chicken (Ayam Tulang Lunak)
Love the Gado-gado, the best in Sydney if I may say. Ayam Tulang Lunak is also great but it is an expensive dishes consider you are only get thigh&drumstick, if it is put $8, it may consider a good bargain. The service is friendly but it take a while to have all the food to come together. If the light change into the white rather than yellow than its become a great place too.
Willis Canteen surprised me in many good ways! I can feel the owners’ passion for food in every dish they served. Their specialties are Gado-gado and Karedok.
Their gado gado and ketoprak are amazing.. They are not shy with the peanut dressing at all which is why its the best I've ever had.
Absolutely delicious! Moreover, it's budget friendly and authentic Indonesian food.
Mr. Indra - the host makes customers feel welcome. Highly recommended.
Far better than ALL of the Indonesian restaurants that are overpriced in the CBD.
Made to order gado2, it is the best in Sydney, very authentic, you can tell the chef how spicy and sweet you want it . Expect to wait avg 30 minutes during busy hours or weekends.
Delicious food “homemade” style. We ordered Migoreng with chicken — so good! The restaurant has a simple style and lovely staff.
The ayam chicken is tender, topped with green chilli chutney is so refreshing.
Gado Gado is very nicely flavoured. Like the combo of crispy prawn crackers and the rice cake.
I loved it. It felt like you are transported to Jakarta. The food was great and service fantastic. The staff were very accommodating. If you want an authentic Indonesian experience, look no further.
Authentic home made Indonesian food. Their gado gado is a must try. I suggest calling in to order at least half an hour in advance for it, unless you’re ok to wait. It’s that good!
Never fail to impress me. The authenticity of their Ketoprak and Gado Gado is unquestionable. For non-Indonesian, if you want to try authentic Indonesian salad aka Gado Gado this is the place to go! Must try is Gado Gado and Ketoprak.
Gado gado is unbelievable so was the Nasi Goreng. The fish cake and tofu was very tasty. The sate ayam (chicken satay) was average and the beef rendang was a bit tough. Will be back!
Went back on 19 June 2020, this place is still awesome. Get the Gado Gado with steamed rice. Servings are still big.
