Eaten at Bill & Toni's since i was a child and the food is still the same. The cuisine served is Italian, with Australian influence. Portion sizes are very generous and the combos are great for hungry tummies!
Bill & Toni’s has been around since the early 1970s and eventually, it was long-time customers that took over both ownership and management. It serves up Italian-Australian food in huge portions, home style, with a friendly vibe. You can order enormous plates of protein, big plates of pasta, or go crazy and do a combo. My American family was pretty pleased with this option.
Found an old tissue in one of our water glasses when delivered stacked to the table. Deafeningly loud room. Waited an hour for food then asked where it was - the order had been lost. It appeared at least two other tables meals had had the same problem. After resubmitting our order the 4 dishes were promised within 10 minutes. To our surprise food was provided within the timeframe. To our surprise the food was not that that we had ordered. We ate. I enjoyed. Solid 3.5. Looking forward to the next visit.
Came here for a late night feed after work.. ordered the Penne Bosciola and it was pretty good, considering it was only $14. The restaurant is very minimalist and full of locals and regulars. Will definitely be back :)
First time I spotted Brad Fittler & Luke Ricketson walking into this cafe, as me and family were about to leave after a great and satisfying meal. As a Rooster fan for life, that was a great night indeed, to have ever seen Brad Fittler face to face in his casual outfit.I always dragged a friend or two in this cafe, or whenever I feel like having a heavy breakfast. It's not the best cafe in town but it earned its own reputation over the years. It got a character and ambiance that other surrounding cafes do not have. Majority of their customers are locals which is good. The ground floor is cafe whilst upstairs is the Restaurant. As far as my family and I are concerned, its a decent Italian serving of food at a very reasonable price. Their spaghetti is my all time favourite but when I am really hungry their combo meal (side pasta + mixed grill is awesome.
I can understand why this place has been trading for more than 50 years! The coffee and desserts are both delicious and reasonably priced, and while the food won't be winning any chef's hats, it will leave little space in your stomach and lots of change in your pocket.
If you're looking for a cheap and cheerful night out, Bill & Toni's will serve you well.
Thank you Bill & Toni's.
Always had a lovely time here. Not able to visit as much any more but will definitely do so when I'm back in the local area.

+4.5
Been coming here for the best part of 20 odd years and it just dawned on me I'd never reviewed it
Arguably the best cheap eat in Sydney and to bolster that argument is they've been on the same spot since the 60's.
With a very simple menu to choose from these guys don't get it wrong and they don't make it small either
Such good value and great service with a smile.
Had the spaghetti bolognese (I always do here) and side salad, both of which are massive, could feed 2 but I was hungry :-)
Not sure why they offer complimentary bread on arrival? You need all the space you can to finish the main. And cordial? These things must be a tradition here I think.
Just great hearty, cheap, soul satisfying Italian food.
The chef looks like he's from the mafia, love it, authentic.
Has the menu here ever changed? Probably not but that's a good thing if you have your favourite that you keep coming back to. Depending on the mood, it's the pork chops or schnitzel for me. Goes great with the free bread, green salad and orange cordial.
Love stoping by here for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake on a sunny afternoon and sitting on the pavement. It is an institution and has been around for ages, the decor is simple, the furniture is basic, the service is warm, and the coffee is splendid. They also serve simple food like sandwich, something to try next time.
Cheap and cheerful comfort food. Nothing amazing with their food, but with their prices, you can't expect anything too outstanding anyway. Food came out quite quickly, which was a bonus for us needing a quick feed.
Old school Italian cafés, a lovely café that the locals love to hang out in. Spacious place and friendly staffs, the coffees and breatkfasts are good. There's an pinball machine to play, that reminds me of the old fun games that kids used to play before the screen based games dominate.
I was pleasantly surprised by Bill and Toni's. I wasn't sure what to expect given the low prices and free corkage. Service was fast and friendly. The food came out super quickly and was very satisfying. Free cordial is a nice touch too. Dinner out for 3 people cost around $50.... Amazing!
I ate at Bill & Tony's all the time in the 80's but have come less & less over the years. Back then there weren't many places you could sit down & eat a proper meal at the price, & proper cafes were few & far between. Different world today of course. The schnitzel with cheese is smaller, there's way more competition, & pasta that you could've cooked cheaply at home isn't good value when eating out.
But for occasional nostalgia I like coming to B&Ts & remembering when we were young. & the cutting edge dining experience included orange cordial & lettuce with vinegar...
Bill and Toni's isn't a place that you go for the decor. Serving up huge plates of humble yet home-style, cheap comfort food, it's a relaxed and old school way to enjoy a delicious meal. It's been around for years, and I've been coming since I was little. The quality and consistency of the food doesn't change, and I can always go back knowing that I'm in for that signature Bill and Toni's bolognese flavour. Staff are friendly and willing to engage in some friendly banter. The relaxed, home-y ambience of the place gives a great feel when you sit down and eat. The place is a little old and the decor may not please all, but when you've been going there as long as I have, you'd know that it's worth it.
Had a wonderful meal while in Sydney at bill n Toni's. The food was rich in favour n the ambience was very chattery :) it was nice to learn about the place n meet friends in such a good setting. Would def recommend it to anyone visiting Sydney
This is one of my go to cafe in Darlinghurst after my Japanese dinner near by.
I have been coming here for almost 20 years now, always makes nice and strong coffee also I am a fan of their Coffee Gelato and Italian biscuits.
They used to have most amazing cheese cakes but I haven't seen it available these days. I have eaten here one or twice at lunch it was nice - very simple and hearty Italian cooking.
Old school. All that talk of Abdul's made me think. Everyone's chasing after the latest hot new places but how about the cold and old? Now there's a niche just begging to be exploited! So I think that's what I'm going to be focusing on for the next little while. And where better to start than Bill & Toni's? Just like Abdul's, Bill & Toni's is an old school Sydney institution, basic, cheap, plain food and big helpings but this time serving up Italian. Big plates of pasta, meatballs that could bowl a truck over, gelato to finish and coffee to put hairs on your chest. You heard it here … or you've already been eating here for the past 40 years!
Darlinghurst is filled with great restaurants, and as a local, I've tried them all . Bill and Toni's is a Sydney institution. I used to frequent on my lunch break in Year 12 - 10 odd years ago - and tend to pop in once every few months these days. Nothing has changed - unpretentious food that hits the spot, at cheap prices. The coffee is great too . Grab a bottle of wine from the pub and enjoy B & T's for what it is.
Very good value, generous serving size and nice food! The lamb shank is quite flavoured, however could be much better if could cook for a longer time.
Bill and Toni's is not about fine dining. Rather, as seen from the above picture of the menu board, it's about cheap, value-for-money, simple Italian food, which is made all the better consumed in Bill and Toni's staple environment: homely, with a large side of friendliness and comfort.
Yum!. Been going here for 18 years and the food is always great with fast service and no fuss. Always a delight!
I go for one thing only - the Cheese Schnitzel. That's not to say that the other food isn't as good. I love Bill and Toni's and have been going there for over 20 years. It's the hangout for many locals. Simplicity! Good Food! Good Atmosphere! The Cheese Schnitzel is what I go for though!
40 Years & Still Going. I've been coming to Bill & Toni's for 40 years, initially with La Famiglia every Sunday, when dear old Bill and Toni were still alive. It was an Italian-only zone in those early days, not a Skip to be seen. As a little girl I remember my cheeks being gently pinched by the old boys, the chiacchere (gossip) between the owners and my Papá, the huge servings of hearty food and the gelato in huge tasty scoops. Forty years later, I still go, largely for a cuppa and a dose of nostalgia. Bill & Toni are long gone and the people who run it now will never be them, and don't try to be. The food and coffee are the same, the décor is the same. And that's the reason I still go: to remember a wonderful time in my life.
Cheap and cheerful. Love the cheese combo. Awesome feed for a reasonable price! Complimentary cordial and bread is great and the old school family friendly vibe keeps me coming back. Love a good gelato from the cafe downstairs afterwards.
Pretty good for a cheap meal. HELLO!
I have been eating here regularly for many years. My opinion is slightly biased but I will say that I have had good food and service here during the times I have come in as well as the coffee and hanging out downstairs.
Bill and Tonis is an old school, classic, run down, cheap, italian food eatery with a good reputation amongst the locals of Darlinghurst.
I have been there at times and not been totally impressed with the food. If you go there expecting something that is cooked to perfection then you will be disappointed.
The restaurant is almost like an Italian food take away place with a room to eat your meals in. It is not a place where you would take visitors or your girlfriend for a fancy restaurant dinner, it's more like going there for a cheap feed with a few mates who aren't too picky about their food and don't really care about getting service that is above and beyond expectations.
I have read the reviews on here and most of them are extremely harsh and overboard. I felt compelled to say something about this place because I have been going there quite some time and have had many good experiences. Some of the comments people make on here make them sound like bitches honestly.
It is definitely worth a go. My recommendation would be either cheese schnitzel, lamb shanks, roast chicken, plain veal schnitzel. If you are going for the pasta then get the penne with bolognaise sauce and parmesan cheese.
Because the pasta is precooked it sometimes comes out overcooked and soft but the red sauce is usually pretty good. Be friendly with the staff and they will provide you with better service.
You can always get the combo if you're starving
The worst food I've ever eaten at a restaurant. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and instead I got a sliver of dry chicken smothered in cheese, served with overcooked greens and a bowl of lettuce. Very, very disappointing. How can this restaurant survive??
LOVE LOVE LOVE !!! Best coffe in Sydney second to none!!! Can't beat the bacon and egg rolls $6 or on a plate for $8!
Thirty years. I have been coming here for thirty years and it started when dad would take us into the office on school holidays and we would get lunch here.
Now I take my kids when we visit Sydney. This was the first place that they ever tried spaghetti with sauce.
The menu is fairly simple and hasn't changed much in thirty years, sometimes the schnitzel is a little tough and sometimes it is just beautiful but really you are always guaranteed a good feed in a friendly atmosphere.
Definitely my kind of comfort food.
A Guilty Pleasure... How many ways can I describe the loveliness of the schnitzel with bolognese and melted cheese? Oh so greasy but oh so good! I only go here when I am not on a diet or I will fall down the rabbit hole too fast! The orange cordial, bread and salad that automatically arrive at your table are all part of the family restaurant atmosphere that I love.
Downstairs: Foccacia "with the lot" + coffee = $10. A great lunch, and nice atmosphere on the street. Love it.
Bring on the renovations. A favorite Sydney rendezvous for coffee and people-watching for at least the last 25 years - and great coffee it is too, flavoursome and creamy, classic Sydney milky espresso, the envy of the world. These days coffee is right up there with Vegemite as a homesickness trigger for Aussie travellers.
Like most reviewers here, I'm kind of over the spag bol / orange cordial offering upstairs. It was fun in the eighties, now its a recipe for indigestion. And its not just the aging process - Sydney's food expectations have changed too, and generally for the better. Maybe when they build the big terrace upstairs, a menu makeover would be in order? Let's keep it cheap and cheerful, but drag it kicking and screaming into the modern era.
Good Old Fashioned Service and Food. This is a Sydney institution. The service is great, and the food simple and wholesome. I haven't found anywhere else in Sydney where orange cordial, lettuce salad, and bread are all free with the meal. I call that great value for money with any main course!
You gotta try this! The place is famous and the coffee is fab. The place to see and be seen on a Sunday morn.
