Sitting outside on Burton Street has Darlo vibe galore, especially on Mardi Gras day, love really is in the air. Inside the little cafe there's a party atmosphere. Even though we are in fancypants Darlinghurst, Jilat Jilat maintains full hole-in-the-wall street cred, complete with bainmarie of love.
It was my first visit to this cafe and I was very impressed. They serve classic cafe dishes as well as Malaysian dishes. I opted for Malaysian dishes and everything was delicious.
Love their Thai milk tea and strong coffee.
The homemade chicken curry with salted duck egg pie was pretty special and came with rich curry sauce.
Their signature Penang char kuey teow was yum and the nasi goreng kampung was just the bomb! Love how they have sambal belachan too. Totally made everything better!
For dessert I chose the homemade durian baked cheesecake. Don’t be afraid to try even if you don’t like durian ‘cause the durian flavour was quite subtle (but the cheesecake was still divine regardless!)
Highly recommend this cafe.

Love, love, love this place so much and hope more people come across it. Seriously it is the best all round cafe for brekky, lunch and dinner. The new owner is a wonderfully kind man who is very customer focused and the chef is talented. The coffee is brilliant, my fave brekky is sour dough, pesto, poached egg and haloumi and the lunch time laksa yum! Very Vegetarian friendly :-) also alcohol served from breakfast to dinner. Xxx
Having recently changed owners, Rumpus Room has a brand new menu and is full of new surprises. Six months ago, this petite-sized restaurant in the skinny streets of Darlinghurst was an Italian bar. But it’s since changed hands and it’s new offering is really quite unique.
Asian Fusion Cafe with strong Malaysian root.
Opened for business since 4 months back.
Venue:
Small venue serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Menu is base on strong Malaysian cuisine fusion with some Italian.
Service:
Will ( owner & barista ) was very friendly, have time to chat while he is free.
Mark ( other partner was busy preparing some food in the kitchen.
Food&Drink:
Piccolo to start with.
Coffee beans powered by “the cat’s pyjama” brand by 7 miles.
Love the blend is well balanced and smooth finished
Durian & Pandan Muffin,
It was Asian flavour infused muffin, and it’s not your typical muffin!
I like the flavour of durian, it’s subtle! As you know durian is delicacy for some people, so either you love this or you’ll hate this!
I’ve been ask if I like the flavour, I told will I prefer more stronger taste on durian, and he promised if I make an order, he’ll put some extra durian on my order.
Wow, that’s a good service!
Had a great breakfast here ,loved the food ...probably the best omelette we had in Sydney. It's a nice cute little family operated place close to Oxford st.Would definately recommend this place for the food and service .
Worthy to recommend. Wonderful meals and great service.
Foods are delicious and really large for a meal.
I think the price is pretty reasonable for this such amazing experience.
One of the tastiest laksas I’ve had in Sydney (and those are hard to find)! Good coffee is an added bonus. 😊 #malaysianfusion #icedlatte #coffee
Came here last week on their opening week. Their Penang Hokkien noodle is unreal. They did homemade pastry as well. The panna cotta especially really good. The owner is very friendly as well. Definitely will be coming back to tried other menu as well. Recommended.

Visited Jilat Jilat Malaysian Cafe earlier today during lunchtime. Waited for about 30 minutes as they were busy. 💯 worth the wait.
Ordered their weekly special, clay pot chicken rice, and it was super duper fantastically tasty! I’m at a loss for adjectives to describe the taste of the food. Picture and video attached.
Also ordered the char kuey teow, which was perfection. Beats ho jiak’s in my opinion. The CKT was made with the thinner noodles and it literally transported us back to Penang. 💯
Curry chicken pie w salted duck egg; the curry was so good, perfect balance of spice, salt and everything else that was in that little bowl of perfection. Took me back to the mamak/a plate of nasi kandar haha.
Met one of the business partners, Will, while we were there as well. Lovely chap from Penang. Definitely recommend this place 💯 💯. Super duper happy today haha
Malaysian cafe serving hawker style and other dishes like Chilli Crab. Missed out on the chicken curry and rendang pie. Didn’t realise it must be preordered.
We enjoyed the penang style Or Chien and Char Koay Teow. I like the thinner rice noodles are used in the Char Koay Teow. Wok Hei and Or Chien has crunchy bits. Yum!
Gravy for the Yin Yong Hor Fun was a bit too thick for me. KL Hokkien Mee has the fried pork lard (chee yau char) but would prefer a thicker style noodle.
Really nice cosy place, great for quiet catch up with friends or dates.
Staff are fantastic and friends and the food as you can see below absolutely delicious
I've been here twice now and absolutely love it! The manager was incredibly friendly and a good laugh! The cheese and cold cuts platter was great value for money and the pastas was delicious, especially the ragu! I managed to get up to 30% - 40% off my entire meal by booking via Dimmi/Eat Club. Its worth booking as the restuarant is fairly small and can fill up fast.
