Fish on fire is my absolute favorite fish and chips place in Sydney. The fish is always so fresh, the chips have a great crunch and their fish cakes are so well seasoned. Cannot recommend more highly!
Actually really good fish and seafood!
Soft, perfectly cooked sea perch, great calamari and excellent potato scallops.
Nice find in the heart of Glebe.
Great food, good variety, service with a smile. Ordered staple burgers and chips. Atmosphere was great, tables a bit wonky, but definitely worth the visit.
Yum, clean food. I'm gluten intolerant and often struggle to find options that meet my needs. Had the atlantic salmon pack with jasmine rice. Well cooked, tasty, well priced and gluten free :)
Fish On Fire was one of my favourite places to eat during my stay in wonderful Glebe. It reminded me of a good old British fish ‘n’ chip shop with a few tables to eat in and a couple of tables outside – nothing too fancy or formal. The choice of food was good, with a selection of battered and grilled seafood and burgers. There were few vegetarian options on the menu (veggie burger and Greek salad spring to mind) so needless to say, Fish On Fire is not the ideal place for your veggie friends. The food was freshly cooked to order and pretty good. In particular, I loved the mixed seafood grill, chips and salad – the grill included octopus, calamari, mussels, king prawns and perch. The beer battered chips were amongst the best I have tasted. Yum! And the cost? Less than $15. Sydney is an expensive city but I can say that I would struggle to find anything similar for this price in many UK cities (exchange rate permitting of course…).
In order to procrastinate, Linda and I went to eat fish and chips in Glebe. Just a short walk from the beginning of Glebe Point Road, we arrived at 217a. Fish on Fire. We looked at the menu and we were flustered with choices. We didn’t know what to get because we wanted to try a bit of everything! Finally after much consideration and having being asked twice if we were ready to order, we got salt and pepper squid ($6), fried calamari with chips ($7.50) and the Grilled Seafood Mix ($14.50). Instead of eating at the shop, we wanted to enjoy the weather so we walked across the road to the park. Firstly, the grilled seafood mix was delicious. It had a mixture of fish, mussels, prawn, calamari and octopus with a bed of rice (or chips, up to you) and a salad. It was cooked with mixed herbs, lemon juice and olive oil. Yum yum yum. It was all very well cooked! The sauce from the seafood also made the rice really delicious. The salt and pepper squid was my favourite. It came with sweet chilli
...it's an unassuming place, but the food is excellent: my idea of heaven is to buy the grilled fish (served in its own handy little box with moist, buttery rice and salad) and a bottle of ginger beer, and sit in
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
+4.5
Amidst all the fancy food, it's nice to have some more simple pleasures - and Fish on Fire delivered just that! It's a cute little fish cafe on Glebe Point Road, with some indoor, and some outdoor tables, and a roaring take-away
Great value funky little fish and chip shop in glebe. Very friendly owner. Highly recommend the barra burger
Love this place. Can honestly say I have enjoyed the best fish and chips here (grilled and battered). Comes with a decent thick cut chip. Am a regular and have never been disappointed by the food or menu variety. Nice variety of salads also.Chicken burger is great too. Prices are so reasonable. So what if the seating is not so flash and is unassuming, enjoy a takeaway. These staff are friendly and efficient.. Have recommended to friends and they have enjoyed a similar experience.
Cheap, great fish served quickly. Asked for my fish medium rare and it was. Cheaper cut of fish, but nice mix of herbs, generous salad and good chips. Wouldn't bother with the potato scallops. Really a take away place but with a few tables, so decor is poor and grotty (we had to wipe our own table, cutlery and glasses were worn out), and it is squishy. Didn't charge for (polyethylene) wine glasses. Made a mistake with the order but generously made up for it. Lady taking order unfortunately had multiple face piercings, so a bit revolting. Not a good start to the meal.
Cheap as chips!. Such cheap and delicious fish! Get it takeaway and sit in the park opposite! I always have the grilled salmon..yum!
Best beer battered chips I've had :) however, not so keen on the battered calamari... Much prefer the crumbed types sold elsewhere
Awsome food. Im new in the area and was recommended by a few people to go to fish on fire.Oh my gosh ive been 4 days in a row and want to try a different food from the menu every time i go there. there burgers are sooo yum and the fish and chips which i had today was so light and good and very filling was absolutalely delish. i would recommend anyone there trust me. As value for money cheap !!! even there serving size is pretty good too. Staff are very friendly. Great food guys .keep up the good work.
It has to be the best kept secret on Glebe Point Road! I get there religiously at least twice a week for my salmon and seafood basket. As they are BYO, you can also enjoy a glass of wine!
Good fresh cheap food. Voted one of the top 5 fish & chip places in Sydney (2008) by SMH. Plus they have really tasty burgers :)
Fish and chips, no fuss. Wait times during the day here are pretty good, it is usually just not particularly crowded on this side of town so that makes sense. Chips are solid, cooked correctly, satisfying. Fish batter not overly thick, pretty standard level of batter, a little greasy as a result but as expected. Some varieties of fish - barramundi and sea perch on top of the standard lot. Grilled if that's your thing. Have I had better? Yes. If I have a craving will this hit the spot? Yes. Service is quick, brief, not much to and fro and that suits me fine.
If you don't mind the noise of the traffic going by then this is the near perfect place for an evening cafe meal. Grilled boneless fillet with chips and salad $13. Home orders and pick up, yes. There were some of these while I consumed my meal the $13 fish that is. I generous serving.
Came here for the fish, I ended up also ordering the burger for $8 which turned out to be the highlight. Excellent burger, soft bun, scrumptious patty, fresh toppings.
I tried the fish and chips which was great as well as the mixed grilled fish platter. And although the mussels were over done and the grilled fish fillet soggy, the flavours were good.
I’ve ordered via Uber Eats numerous times and have always been happy with my food. The portions are very generous and the prices are cheap! I highly recommend the salt & pepper squid, chips & salad. A big fan of the tempura prawns too!
Some constructive feedback, they need to pay closer attention to sauces. Although the food is perfect, the sauces are either missing or the wrong flavour.
Awesome no frills local fish & chip shop.
Fast & friendly service.
Fish has a nice & crispy batter with crunchy chips at a decent price.
Will definitely come back here next time I crave fish & chips!
Keep up the good work 👌🏼
Good price, good value all round.
Only thing to improve on is the need to wipe down tables & chairs the weather is humid so partly the problem. The place needs a bit of TLC. STAFF friendly & helpful. I will come back.. with some wet wipes!!
Decent fish with proper batter, and the chops were the fat slow cooked type which if your English you know exactly what I mean. Not too mention it was great value, fish and chips for only $9! I hate Sydney inner city but what a fantastic chippy... Certainly deserves five stars.
Small, minimalist restaurant with very reasonable prices and slightly above-average food. The fish was a little overcooked but the portions were pretty generous. There are a variety of items to choose from the menu.
