I absolutely love the Haiwanese Chicken Rice here!! They made it so perfect that I can literally drop by here everyday to order for dinner!
Yummy pork chop with rice and roti with crispy fried chicken would be my fave. Love the asian flavour of this restaurant. One of my to go place too for chicken rice. Price is reasonable however sometimes can be very packed with sitting
Super cheap, super easy food at Alex Lee Kitchen in Spice Alley. I got the char kway teow for $13.90. It was full of flavour and a decent portion for the price. Great food, the only thing lacking is good enough vegetarian options. There is the roti sayur lodeh, and the jams and pickle that come with the roti canai are great too. Yet to try more stuff from them. But highly recommend the roti sayur lodeh for vegetarians.
Visited Spice Alley the other weekend coming home from a day at Glebe markets with the intent on getting dumplings and stumbled upon Alex Lee Kitchen’s special board. No regrets! Everything on the plate was full of flavour, the chicken was insanely crispy/fried and the roti was one of the freshest I’ve ever had. I will be coming back!

Had chatterbox chicken rice, under $15, at spice alley. Had lots of choices such as hong kong, thai, malaysian etc cuisines, quick service and fast food arrival. Great 🇸🇬 food, not many around in sydney
I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again: I think Spice Alley in Chippendale is a great place. Beautifully designed, good concept, buzzing with life. Aside from some complications to try to get an alcoholic drink, the rest of it works great. Everyone in your party can choose their own favourite Asian dish, and then gather and eat tasty food together.
Not the best version of chicken rice, but since this is Sydney, it's decent enough. Chicken was a little dry and the rice lacks the chicken broth flavor. It only came with a chili sauce, and without minced ginger. Service was fast though.
Good food... not sure why this is rated so poorly? We really enjoyed the laksa, chicken skewers, and roti with beef. Wouldn't defiantly go back.
Located in Spice Alley in Chippendale. Usual suspects on the menu, and you can smell the wok fried noodles from a mile away. The roti canai was nice and spicy.
Pretty good. It's hard to judge a restaurant on one dish, but if you are, Nasi Lemak I think is a good litmus test. It exhibits a variety of techniques which, if done well, most probably provides a good guide to what one can expect from everything else.
It was always going to have great texture, with the boiled egg, peanuts, fried anchovies providing a great partnership with smooth coconut rice and thick but silky beef rendang curry.
But it was the balance of flavours that I was most impressed with - flavoursome curry with just enough heat, sweet and sour pickle, chilli paste, salty peanuts and anchovies balanced perfectly when combined with the sweet and smooth coconut rice.
Service was quick and efficient and I love the ambience of spice alley.
I must admit i enjoyed Alex Lee Kitchen. On delivery. The roti canai travelled extremely well and was still warm, crisp and buttery. I loved the curry sauce and the sambal. Curry sauces were balanced and bright and i loved whatever it was that contained the cabbage pieces. Sambal was rich and satisfying.
For one who doesn't often opt for rice, I found the rice in the Chatterbox Chicken rice incredibly morish. The chicken in this was unbelievably tender also. I loved the delicate broth. Delicious!
I got addicted to roti canai in Asia as a hangover cure, so dropped in here and got one. It was just as good as I remembered, good roti and rich gravies and a pleasant eating area between the restaurants. Only one roti on the plate though, so, although one of the gravies had veges that filled it out, it's only a snack-size meal for $7. Their full meals seem a little expensive. Note that you can only pay with tap and go cards or with a special card from the pay station. Also not sure if they have drinks here or if you have to go somewhere else.

Beautiful, authentic street food. Their laksa lives up to the chefs' recommendations. The food was almost ready before I had paid but so tasty and wholesome - loved it!

Authentic cheap eat that is South East Asian cuisine, where the review sites not reflect the true nature of this place. You would have to have a prior palate knowledge to truly appreciate Alex Lee. One of the kiosk in Spice alley that serves cheap and cheerful comfort food at a very reasonable price. If you're cooking for one, sometimes it is more with it to just go out and pick up a plate of their delicious and fragrant chatterbox chicken rice that comes with chilli dipping sauce and a small thing of soup.
I ordered their har mee and while it was tasty, there were slight lack in the flavour department but still tasty enough. I guess what I meant by that was... that it didn't have that full body rich salty taste to it, that the har mee normally has.
Sometimes, simplicity is all you need. Nothing like a meal served fairly quickly, but full of flavour and satisfying at the end of the meal. Well worth a second visit.

Alex Lee Kitchen is the first stall off the Parramatta Road entrance of Spice Alley. The narrow focus here is the Singaporean rice, noodles and roti dishes of the hawker stalls of the island nation. The eating spaces in Spice Alley are eclectic, from open outdoor seats to spaces inside converted terraces. During the lunch time rush you notice happy faces on the punters, but when it's quiet the hokey asian theme of the decorations is more apparent.
During my first time visiting Spice Alley, I felt naturally inclined to try the first stall in sight - Alex Lee Kitchen! The menu is full of delicious Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine. I ordered the Nasi Lemak with Beef rendang and it was all very fragrant and flavoursome. Only let down was the service
Great fast, cheap & cheerful food. I love the street style setting and you can eat outside or inside one of the terrace houses. I had the roast duck special which came with 2 satay chicken sticks and some sides. The others has laksa (which I am going to try next time) & the rendang. Food came out fast as well. All dishes are decently priced. Definitely a place I'll come back to.
Alex Lee Kitchen is my favorite place in Spice Alley- or really for asian food in the area. It's quick, affordable, and authentic. The Katong Laska is incredible, the perfect amount of creaminess and spice. And the curry is also amazing! With rice or roti to absorb all the flavors- simply delicious. For lunch, dinner, or anything in between Alex Lee satisfies your craving. Would recommend to anyone.
We stumbled across this place while looking for brunch. The atmosphere of spice alley is amazing. Felt like we were back in Malaysia again.
The best dish was the roti durian. By far the nicest sweet dish around. The durain flavour was strong and you could really enjoy the pieces of durian.
The roti telur bawang (egg and onion roti) was nice, but we werent expecting the chicken curry dip that accompanied it.
The outdoor ambience & setting of Spice Alley is great. I had the Kon Loh Mee/Char Siu/Wonton ... the Mee wasn't Kon enough to be authentic for Malaysians & was more wet in the HK style. I came here tonight to specifically eat this to discover if it's a good alternative place to eat Kon Loh as the only other place is Hawker uptown & pricey. The flavours are good & better than other places but not as authentic as Hawker. Hope the 2 Malaysian stalls pick up their authentic game so we don't have to walk uptown to Hawker & can just pop across fr UTS
I love this place and every place in Spice Alley! Such a great little set up - it makes you feel like you're actually in Asia. I ordered the fishball laksa and roti chennai. Both dishes were incredible and so cheap!
Singaporean hawker street foods heaven!! Yummy Hainanese chicken rice - rice is cooked with chicken so very flavourful, chicken is tender, chicken soup on the side is delicious and my favourite was the ginger chilli sauce. This sauce goes so well on rice and the chicken itself. Char kway tweo is quite average - stir fried flat rice noodles with chicken, egg, chinese sausages with beansprouts with dark sweet soy sauce. What I liked most about it was the balance in flavour, not too salty or bland, but the rice noodles were a bit oily but It’s understandable because that’s how stir fry should be. Great experience overall as food was ready approximately 5 minutes after ordering but everything tasted fresh and hot.

Absolutely delicious Malaysian food - I had the dry chicken curry noodle and the flavours were spectacular that exploded in your mouth!
A favourite place to dine in Spice Alley with Singapore style hawker food. Been here so many time over the years it's a good area for enjoy hawker street food in outdoor dinning. Tried many dishes over the year they make my favourite is the curry dry egg noodles, wanton noodles and roti dishes.
