The service was pretty bad, I put this upfront.
Xihuahua 🐶 OTed and we were both very hungry after a long walk searching for dinner. Normally I am not a fan of yun nan rice noodles but since xi dog mentioned this again I decided to have a go again. Then I was totally sold on the rice noodles. My tomato beef noodle looked and tasted more like spaghet. The soup was fresh and thick with lots of contents. The sour cabbage fish noodle had tender fish but I think the sourness was not there.
Saliva chicken had great sauce but the chicken was a bit tough, the cut was too chunky. Overall a quite satisfying steaming hot din din for cold windy evening.
The spicy dry noodles were decent. They came in a good portion, was very filling towards the end. The sauce is Lao gan ma which made the dish pretty oily
Excellent customer service. Delicious food especially the Hot & numbling beef rice noodle soup.Comfortable ambience. Highly recommended when you miss Chinese food.
Hao hao ci, food very very very tasty, tasty likr noodle cooked by my mum, and I now miss my mum so much, cus she cant cook, this is the same smell.
Should try their Yunnan Signature rice noodle soup! The hot soup is extremely good during the winter or rainy time and super delicious. The portion is reasonably big.Friendly staff, will come back again.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in city, generous portions and tasty flavour worth to trying. The roasted chicken thigh and fried rice noodle get my heart.
Love their Stewed Fish rice noodle soup,so delicious!Others food are nice too, yummy and worth the price! And their staff was friendly, will come back again
One of the better Chinese restaurants I've been to in the city, in relation to the customer service and was delighted with how quick the meals came out, especially since we ordered a few of them.
I had the braised beef noodle soup.
Was not too spicy and the flavours were amazing, first time I had quail eggs and they were awesome !
Fairly reasonable price too, definitely coming back in the future.
Fresh noodles, delicious broths, large range of yummy side dishes. The restaurant has expanded and now has extra seating. Great for winter and still enjoyablein summer.
Enjoyed the Yunnan Signature rice noodle soup and husband loved the aniseed flavour of the braised beef rice noodle soup. The booths were comfortable, relieved we weren't offered stools.
Trying the most popular noodle that everyone ordered it, the Yunnan Signature Rice Noodle Soup. The meat was totally generous, taste of the soup quite good, it seems like similar to quail soup. Worth to try in cold weather. Service was okay, and appetizer menu seems appetiting, but haven’t got chance to try.
Great experience. We came here for gathering and were surprised at the tasty foods and affordable prices, especially deep fry radish cake and dessert with iced brown sugar. Service was considerate as well. Definitely would come again.
"A simple setting, good Yunnan style food, Great prices."
Food came out fast, all at the same time.
The service was excellent, simply satisfying.
Great food, especially their radish cake, came for a celebration, definitely would come again.
Great atmosphere very clean
Service was also great, food came very quickly, in particular a waitress named NC was very helpful and made our experience particularly seamless and hassle free
Extremely busy at lunch time but the wait is not too long as turnover is really quick. I had the signature dish which came with a slightly herbal soup. Not the usual broth I have tasted but not too bad. Good place for a quick meal minus the wait. Food came quickly
I like this place, but the seating is uncomfortable. It can get very busy and is popular with the Chinese community in Sydney. The service is usually good and the food is enjoyable. I really like the fish noodle soup here, it's hot and sour. The pork, beef and chicken skewers are cooked on a flaming grill and they get that real smoky flavour.
This popular restaurant has great food but its table/seating layout is a bit uncomfortable and awkward. I mainly come here for dinner with co-workers and friends at around 6-8pm on weekdays and it is always busy. The service here is alright, pricing is decent and waiting time for the food is pretty average. Their spicy dishes are very spicy so if you order them, prepare yourself with cups of water in advance! We always order their noodle dishes and enjoy it so we're always back for more. o(^∀^*)o
love this place, the 1st dish on their menu is a must and the spicy beef slide.... sooo yummy~ and this place is so high tech, u can order by scaning the QR code on the today by your phone.
Pretty popular restaurant on George Street. The restaurant was not half full when I got there, which is unusual because it's always packed! Lucky me 😬
Today I ordered:
Beef noodle soup with pickled veggies (4/5)
Cucumber with numbing spicy sauce (3.5/5)
Lamb skewers (3.5/5)
The lamb skewers are normally 5/5, but today they weren't seasoned properly and a little dry.
Great feed and it won't break the bank.
Really tasty unique food upstairs , a bit weird that you can't order noodles upstairs - we got one of everything Dai rice was good and steam buns are sweet!
Love the food at Two Sticks (note that this review is for the noodle section downstairs, not Two Sticks Plus section upstairs which has family style dishes). I recommend #1 the signature noodle soup. Boiling hot soup arrives with thin slices of beef and pork as well as a quail egg. Cooked noodles are served separately. Most people just tip the noodles into the soup. The hero of this dish is certainly the soup; it looks clear but is packed with flavour.
The cold noodles with shredded chicken or tofu was also a highlight thanks to the slightly spicy, sour sesame-based sauce. Incredibly appetising. The menu also offers snacks - order the fried chicken wings and lamb skewers. Service was good and food came out really quickly.
What is the best when you finish work really late at night in a cold winter l? To me it's the hot food with some soup.
This place is tiny and always crowed with a lot of ppl. Service as you can expected in a normal Chinese corner resturant, can't say exceptional. But you get what you want, an authentic chicken soup with rice noodle. It's even boiling when it served. Be careful
it is really hot.
I don't recommend the pumpkin soup base here because it is too thick and a bit salty. The original is good enough. Some side dishes are really tasty too, I recommend the beef and the grill stuff- like lamb strew
Right on George Street & at a busy intersection, I would've walked past this place many time, but I have never noticed it before. Friend suggested we come here for dinner on a rainy day to get some noodle soup. Their Yunnan rice noodle soup is served with the soup and meat/veg in a big hot pot, then the noodles are served in a separate bowl, for you to add into the bowl & soak it to the texture you want. My friends had the signature Yunnan noodles, which is filled with pork, beef & chicken slices. I had the mushroom version, but somehow still ended up with some pork slices in the soup, lucky I'm not a vegetarian! The soup was nice, not too salty, but still had a good base flavour. Other than noodle soup, we also had some deep fried chicken bites and the hot & numbing beef. Both were great snacking treats, the "numbing" beef, was spicy, but not so numbing that you couldn't enjoy it. The stools seating weren't the most comfortable, definitely designed as a quick eat place rather than somewhere to have along lunch/dinner & catch up with people.
We went to Two Sticks on the insistence of a friend. Now, I love all kinds of Asian food and this was pretty OK. However the staff seemed a little out of sorts and not sure what to do. We tried to help them out and ordered quickly and efficiently. The food came out really fast and was pretty tasty and spicy (not the best in Sydney by any stretch, but not bad at all). We also ordered from Two Sticks Plus next door which was good (although Hawker Lane's Lamb & Cumin has ruined me with meat skewers because they are so good in comparison!). The meal was reasonably priced and if I'm looking for a quick, decent Asian meal, I would definitely return.
Fell in love with this place! It is essentially two restaurants with different menus - "Two Sticks Plus"is on the right, serving a large selection of traditions yunan dishes and also things with a twist (~$20-30 per dish). Salted egg yolk prawns were fantastic, with the flavours spot on yet not feeling oily at all. Loved all their grilled options. My favourite was the option of ordering a steamer of Bao buns instead of the normal rice, and it was lots of fun to add bits and pieces of our dishes to the bun and taking one big bite!
"Two Sticks" on the left is full of the traditional yunan pot noodle soups (~10) and appetizers under $5....while it is a much cheaper option and very tasty, a few things fall short - the signature noodle flavour isn't as rich as it could be and traditionally the iron pot serves the soup piping hot which is not how it comes to the table.
Yunnan style noodles, served in what's almost like a mini-hotpot. Two Sticks has a great concept but with room for improvement. One crucial element to an authentic bowl of crossing the bridge noodles (which is their specialty) is that it needs to be piping hot. What's served however is somewhat lacking in the heat department.
The ingredients could be a bit more plentiful or have better variety but the chicken wings? Best thing ever. I'd go back here just for those chicken wings. Maybe I'll be back on a cold day when this cuisine is most fitting.
Had a friend visit from interstate in town and wanted asian food. The food seems like a mix style of food you'd find in Laos or Vietnam with a hot pot twist. As the night was cooler felt like some rice and soup dishes. We ended up ordering the signature noodle soup and black pepper beef risotto with a side of the signature chilli fries. Let's just say the dishes came in little hot pots which was a nice change. The food seemed a bit cold until I mixed the beef with the rice which was not to spicy and a decent from for $10.80 the signature soup had raw meat that was cooked in the pot and served in another bowl with noodles. The fries seemed about soggy and not that spicy at all. The service was pretty quick about 10 mins and attentive. Would come back again and try the pork rib risotto or another soup.
These pots of gold are literally to die for. They are so good and im absolutely obsessed! Been here 4 times this past month! Must try this place!
We were coming back from a lecture on Ken Wilber’s Stages of Human Development, and you know, I was kind of hungry. My better half reminded me that if we stayed on the bus and extra stop, we’d be right near the restaurant from Yunnan that I’d told him at least twice I wanted to try.
The signature noodle soup is fantastic, a generous serving that you get to add noodles to, thick slippery rice noodles. The broth is just plain pork. It's real winter soul food.
Get here early - lunchtimes are busy and its hard to get a table.
I am a yunnan local, this shop just is amazing to serve insanely delicious yunnan cuisine. Fresh taste and effective service are fabulous for price.
i visited this restaurant with friends today and tried the signature rice noodle soup and pork ear. the food was really delicious! i will visit again for sure
My verdict? The food was indeed slightly better because the ingredients weren't all premixed and value for money of this place is really good. Although avoid coming at rush hours with a large group. Ideally, come out of rush hours with 1-2 people. But with a large group, waiting is expected. Oh, and it's cash only at this time of writing so get money out at a nearby ATM.
In preparation for yet another late night at work, we were eager to try the next local specialty. Two Sticks - Yunnan China is a busy little noodle house located at the corner of George and Goulburn. As the name implies, the restaurant features flavours of Yunnan province with a strong focus on noodle soup.
When we first arrived at the restaurant, the first thing we noticed was how busy it was. Having passed by on other occasions, I've always noticed a queue just outside the restaurant. Seating arrangements were rather cozy - tables were small and seated at most a group of three. Luckily, my colleagues and I were able to grab a table within 10 minutes.
Now, onto the Yunnan Signature Fries. They looked even better than they tasted. They know you’re all thinking why you would order fries at a Chinese restaurant, but Gourmet Gumbo implores you do so when you visit Two Sticks! The Yunnan special flavour and crushed chilli powder added an amazing punch to the crunchy fries.
Looking for authentic Yunnan cuisine? Look no more! (At least in the Sydney city) . Recently opened on George St... Bright yellow with wood interior, it looks like a really nice place, wouldn’t say it is really made for “hanging out” tables are small and you sit on smallish chairs.
The Yunnan signature rice noodle soup or 过桥面 served here is quite interesting. Unlike a bowl of pho, the slice meat and soup is served seperately from the noodles. The waitstaff cracked a quail egg before sliding all the meat into the hot soup.
We were then asked to wait for a minute for the meat to be cooked before adding in the noodles with the rest of the condiments.
From our time in the queue to our seat by the kitchen, there’s no denying that it’s busy and bustling with the frantic pace of waiters struggling to meet the orders of a full house, ironing out unforeseen kinks before the full menu is made available. Before long, my entrée of Yunnan Signature Fries had come before me. Chunky, crinkle-cut, stock standard fries (as if from a frozen McCain’s packet) were seasoned and stir-fried in a Yunnan-style special sauce. You don’t eat this for the potatoes, they’re merely vessels for the mildly numbing chilli pepper
If you’ve ever wandered around the Chinatown end of George St, chances are you probably walked past this place thinking “when was this here…” or maybe that’s just me
Wholesome and delicious, I can't get enough of their signature noodle soup! The soup is served in a heated gourd-shaped earthen pot with raw ingredients (quail egg and rolls of thinly sliced beef and chicken) stirred in by the waitstaff at the table; the rest of the fresh ingredients (noodles and vegetables) was later added in after the required 2-minute wait. Highly recommend their Soybean-flour Rice Balls if you still have room for dessert! Cheap and cheerful place with speedy service :)

The rice is sweet and salty, absorbing the meaty juices from seared Chinese lap cheong sausage and lap yuk cured streaky bacon. Deep fried potato cubes provide carb-on-carb action and the frozen vegetable medley adds a little colour. It's incredibly tasty although you may start to feel a little ill towards the end. Next time I'd try and soak up the quarter-cup-of-oil with a serviette first.

After an amazing eating experience at Lost Heaven in Shanghai, I arrived home hoping Yunnanese food would be Sydney’s next big thing. Enter Two Sticks : a small, fast-paced eatery housed under a bright yellow ribcage, bustling with diners and black-clad staff sporting caps and scout-style yellow neckties. Lying close to Myanmar and Thailand, China’s Yunnan region is famous for its use of mushrooms, flowers, salads, cold noodles, individual hotpots and Xuanwei ham. Dai Style Enoki Salad ($3.80) is spicy (as most dishes are) but very representative of the cuisine. The best way to eat here is to order cold appetisers alongside one of their hotpots, like Yunnan Signature Rice Noodle Soup ($11.80) . The smooth pork and chicken stock accentuated by quail eggs, noodles cut from bean curd sheets, bean sprouts and slivered beef and chicken interspersed with silky rice noodles, put your mouth back together between slices of Hot and Numbing Beef ($4.80) - cold garlic poached beef slices
White Cut Chicken. Perfect appetiser only $4.80 but so fresh moist and tasty with ginger and shallot.
Looking for authentic Yunnan cuisine? This is good! We had a Yunnan friend at the table and he said it's pretty authentic, down to the crockery.
I thought the flavours were really great! I loved the food, particularly the soups. Yunnan friend said that the steam chicken soup doesn't really taste the same, might be due to some of the ingredients, like red dates and goji. I thought the flavour was amazing (I've never tasted the Yunnan version) the chicken pieces were tender, soup had a great flavour.
The beef jerky was a bit too salty and hard.
Go for the signature noodles served in giant clay pots. Awesomeness.
Enjoy!
I have eaten a lot of noodles here...
I recommend the signature noodle soup, and the small side dishes, especially the BBQ. The noodle soup is always satisfying. And the price is decent. It does get crowded at dinner times, but I always manage to get a table pretty quickly. And the service is generally polite to friendly.
Loved their signature deluxe mushroom noodle soup. Great taste and the portion. Soup was delicious and was served separately as it was my take away order. It was a great and healthy lunch. Recommended place.
Perhaps my mistake was the dish choice, but I found the soup slightly disappointing. The broth is clear and full of Sichuan pepper oil and chili oil. The broth is very numbing and medium chili. Noodles are decent. Did not appeal as much as the matching sichuanese dish but that does not speak to the quality of the food which was great. Standout star (not pictured) is the cold chili chicken entree which was excellent.
Rarely do I re-visit a restaurant twice on a tourist trip, but for this one I did, because the rice noodle tasted that good!
Located at the heart of Chinatown, Two Sticks is not those kind of fancy restaurant that will attract tourists attention. I have always been a fan of rice noodles, and been looking for one around Sydney. Beside the noodle, their fried crispy chicken is a must try as well. To top that off, their price-friendly milk tea at AUD 3.5 is a great drink to go along with the noodles.
🍡Must order🍡

Decent food, not bad price. The clay pot soup noodles are tasty. The fried noodles are unlike anything I've had before, very oily but still worth trying.
