Review Kiroran Silkwood Road Restaurant - Sydney

I hate comparing but the food was not as I expected. Their pastry had too much of an onion content, thus, did not agree with our stomachs. Soup was great though. Noodle needed more chilli. Manta was too big and filling was not as tasty. Their service was excellent.

Very good experience. Good lamb and glass noodle salad. The egg soup was hearty. Good price too. byo no surcharge.

The best Yughur restaurant in Sydney … the food is just unbelievably yum .. Kiroran Silk Road Yughur is truly something else … LOVE IT ❤️ HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I have been going there for years and years since they opened and never once I have been disappointed.

One of my favourite restaurants in Sydney I have been coming here for years. I always have a fantastic experience. The food is exceptionally flavorful, and there is so much variety. If I could give ten stars to this restaurant, I would. The servers were also very friendly and accommodating. Great halal restaurant, will definitely visit again.

Unbelievably delicious. Although the decor is short on charm, the food is long on flavor. Every dish is memorable. I've never had anything I didn't love. All the classic Uyghur dishes are available and the quality is certainly equal to, if not better than, what you would find in China. Highly, highly recommended.

So bad, truly awful. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. I don’t know how they can call this place a restaurant? Ordered beef buns- came out and the meat inside was cold they obviously just microwave the food. Had to get table water myself. They refill the table water bottles from old 3L milk bottles which is strange. Ordered the big plate of chicken and noodle, had no flavour at all. We sent it back to the kitchen. My British mother cooks with more flavour and that is saying something… Lamb skewers came out and weren’t hot in the middle, maybe this is precooked and microwaved as well. Had to ask 2 times for wine glasses. Was only given 1 fork each, no chop sticks or spoons to serve the food with. Bread came out and was warm/cold maybe microwaved as well. Lamb and cumin dish was nothing special just stir fry lamb with lots of oil and cumin. Weird loud nightclub music playing. Lots of large tables available but they were turning away lots of customers which is a blessing for the customers I wish they turned me away. The service was awful just awful they really did not want to be there. They were very cold and dismissive and couldn’t care less about the customers. They don’t even try or care they just want your money. When I was seated the table was dirty and had not been wiped down. Some other dishes never came out and we said don’t bother. I couldn’t wait to leave- probably same feeling as the staff. This has to be the worst “restaurant” I have ever been to in my life. We ended up just getting the bill and leaving most of the food untouched because we didn’t want to get sick. Cash only sign so they can avoid paying tax. I think a sandwich from 7/11 would of been a more pleasant meal than the food at this “restaurant”.

Was a very busy weekend dinner with understaffed restaurant so which is why our experience was somewhat ruined. You can tell this is a family run business and the food was good, generous and had soul in them. the lamb skewers awesome but unfortunately some items that we ordered were cancelled because they sold out or the kitchen got too busy. We understand the current situation with staff shortages which is why we didn’t mind. We will come back again when things are more normal.

Im not sure if i was really unlucky but I ordered the small fried rice with lamb since i was on a tight budget but they decided to give me the large one. Also, it was swimming in oil. The others seemed to enjoy their meals but i had a bad experience. Just posting this to share it. I would recommend not ordering the rice. Hope this helps

The meat pie was impressive! so.as the lamb skewers, juicy and big chunk . The ox tongue is a test to check can u tolerate the freshness of it, I asked for chillies. All ladies who served us are friendly, it just took them a but to warm up. Decor is not fancy but it s authentic style

Hand pulled noodles<br/><br/>We had a great dinner here - lamb dumplings, spicy chicken and lamb skewers and stir fried chicken noodles (hand-pulled). The dumplings and skewers were unremarkable but the noodles were terrific - just so tasty and chewy!

A definite distinction with a traditional chinese restaurant. The atmosphere and look of the restaurant may be a bit dingy, however the food and value is nothing short of spectacular. <br/>The lamb skewers are generously portioned and are grilled fresh to order. The 'big plate chicken' is one of their signatures and definitely lives up to its namesake. <br/>Highly recommend this establishment.<br/><br/>P.S. BYO is free!

Love this place. Uighur cuisine is quite different from the standard type of Chinese / cantonese which seems to dominate (slowly changing). The food is good, tasty and filling. Great place to come with mates as it's BYO and not formal, you can relax, have a few beers and feast on lamb.

The restaurant we reviewed this week is probably the most iconic uyghur restaurant in Sydney. Kiroran Silk Road Uygur restaurant is located between Chinatown and Chinese Botanical Garden. The restaurant itself looks pretty old fashioned with quite a basic look-and-feel. However, this doesn’t stop people from coming in and enjoying their BBQ lamb skewers or their jumbo chicken dish.

Authentic Uygur food. This place has a huge selection of dishes. We ordered a bunch of vegan dishes (noodle soup, noodles, glass noodles, vegetables, tofu). My parents ordered the lamb skewers and also the chicken dish which they said was delicious. BYO as well which is a bonus.

Best lamb skewers I’ve ever had - definitely hit this hidden gem up if you love your lamb ! Also tried the rice dish which was quite nice. This place is also BYO which is great :)

I finally came to this restaurant for big plate chicken. Very satisfied. The chicken comes with small jumbo (lol) & big jumbo sizes. And the dish includes grilled potato, chicken with delicious handmade noodle base. <br/>A small size of big plate chicken plus an entree and maybe a couple of lamb skewers are way too sufficient for two ppl. <br/>Usually I won’t eat lamb because of the gamey flavour, but this restaurant makes yummy lamb kebabs covered with cumin! I really enjoyed it!<br/>The restaurant is located in a noisy lane way in china town, but you will not hear the noise as this restaurant in on level 2. Different from other Chinese restaurants, it all plays chill indie songs at the background, which creates a relaxing atmosphere : )

We came here last night and really enjoyed their food and service. No cork charges for the bottle of whiskey we brought in. Lamb skewers was definitely my favourite. Had a few kf noodles, dumplings and buns and they were all great.<br/>Would definitely come back!

There's very few Uighur places around, the cuisine is local to a Muslim part of china called xinjiang. Their food is a fusion between Turkish and Chinese food. Expect lamb, mutton, meat dumplings and bread. <br/><br/>The interior is drab and dated, the service and attitude could be more pleasing. But we're really here for the food: its average and could be better, the mutton skewers are good (but a bit dry), the servings overall are generous. I like the meat pancake that's heary with crispy pastry. <br/><br/>There's not much competition for uyghur food in the city, unless you head out west.

Unhygienic food, rude staff and owner. I would never go again. <br/>I went with my family and ordered couple of dishes including Dapanji. I felt gross as i found a hair in the food. I called waitress to show her "black curly hair" in the food, she came and was very rude to me and said "SO WHAT". I again politely told her that there is a "HAIR" in the food, instead of apologizing and offering another plate, she told me that hair is not very long and it does happen. I was with my family and they were feeling uncomfortable too, so i just told her again that I will pay for the rest of the food but don't want to pay for that particular dish (Dapanji) and also we had very little from that plate. <br/><br/>She called the owner who also works as Chef in the restaurant, I thought that Owner would at least apologize but he did the exact opposite and told me that i have to pay and Hair is not a big issue. I again gently told him that i don't want to pay for that dish as i had only little bit of it and there is "Hair" in the food. He got very angry and threw all the food in a big plate on my table in front of me, causing few drops of oil falling on me and my wife's clothes. He and his staff were extremely rude, and treated us very bad. I would never go there again and also advise you guys to stay away from that dirty place.<br/><br/>I paid for the rest of the food but didn't pay for that dish (Dapanji) and left the restaurant as soon as i could.

After seeing a sensational film at the Latin American Film Festival (Adriana’s Pact: a gripping story about the extent to which a family member was involved in Pinochet’s secret police), a group of us were taken to one of YK’s favourite restaurants. I like Uygur food, from what I’ve tried, not like Chinese food that I’m used to with its Muslim and Central Asian influence.

TL;DR<br/>- Honest good tasting food, simple but good<br/>- Un-attentive wait staff<br/>- Reasonable-ish price<br/>- Ordinary decor/atmosphere<br/>My family came here for a meal with my wife's cousins who I had previously written about East Phoenix where their wedding reception was held. They went on a cruise for their honeymoon and upon returning to Sydney, we went out for a much less formal dinner affair.<br/><br/>They had never had Uygur food before, and it appeared it was not something in Calgary, Canada, where they are from.<br/><br/>My wife and I had been here before, many many years ago, so revisiting was an experience.<br/><br/>The atmosphere hadn't changed, still quite bland and blank in decor, very closely positioned table settings to maximise the number of patrons at any one time. Quite cozy especially when you want to put a baby highchair into the mix too.<br/><br/>The table was a little dirty and sticky, and when we asked the waitstaff to wipe it, he seemed a bit miffed at the idea, still, he did come and wipe it.<br/><br/>Menu's came out, and he was I suppose polite enough to answer our questions on how big the Large and Small sized portions were. To be honest, the portion sizes for a large looked very big, so for the dishes we decided upon, we asked for small portions when there was a choice.<br/><br/>The menu didn't look like it has had an update, but I guess that isn't necessary if you have great staples.<br/><br/>So we ordered a Polo (a pilaf with carrot and lamb), Lamb Skewers (a must for Uygur!), Marinated deep fried lamb chunks with bone-in, Laghmen (hand-pulled noodles), an eggplant dish, and a Naan bread.  <br/><br/>It was a bit strange because it appeared that while he had listened, he didn't appear to have been doing a lot of writing on the ticket. we weren't quite sure what was with that, and ultimately it was our fault for not checking and having the ticket read back to us.<br/><br/>Food started to come out, and then it stopped.  We did start eating, but it became apparent that they didn't get down all of our choices, as the lamb skewers and the noodles didn't appear at all! It wasn't really an issue as  there was plenty on the table, so we didn't go hungry, but unfortunate since the newlyweds didn't get the opportunity to try them.<br/><br/>Moving the attention to the food however:<br/>- Polo was good, flavoursome, not too soggy or oily, good ratio of ingredients in it with the rice.<br/>- Marinated deep fried lamb chunks were delicious. Well seasoned and a balanced blend of spices made this dish incredibly tasty, and the meat was cooked perfectly, it wasn't tough or chewy, and came off the bone with ease. Some pieces though were on a touch salty, but the heat level of the chilli/spices were spot on.<br/>- Eggplant was okay, it was cooked well to softness, it wasn't bitter, but I felt it was a bit over salted. It was very saucy, and had a good medium heat to it in the chilli department.<br/>- Naan was a bit disappointing though. It came out already cut up in weird sized pieces instead of it being in a whole piece. Almost like it was cut from a much bigger naan and they were trying to hide the portioning. It was very dry, and I guess thankfully we did have sauce from the eggplant to go with it, it felt almost it was stale though which was unfortunate, otherwise all of the dishes would have complimented fantastically.<br/><br/>We polished off all of the food, and came time to pay the bill, but even that didn't really add up, literally. We had calculated it to be X, but was charged Y, where Y was actually $7 cheaper than the menu prices.... not that we complained but, definitely something weird going on there with the server! We didn't get charged for what we didn't get at least.<br/><br/>In the grand scheme of things though, its the food that matters, and short of the naan, it was a lovely meal, nothing super special that blows you away, but great flavours and well cooked.

Never come back again!<br/><br/>Average service and terrible food! I ordered 3 dishes and none of them tasted authentic. One of the dishes looked like as if they combined the left over food and the noodles that I ordered tasted like nothing but soy sauce. If anyone is looking for a big portion of authentic XinJiang food, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all!!!

Stir-fried chicken and kawap. Taste the best ever!! So yummy!!<br/>Even the kawap took so lonh to cook (i think i'v waited for almost 25min) but the taste is great, so doesnt matter 😂😋

It's been many years since I had proper Uygur food since the Silk Road closed down at the upper end of Chinatown and tried a few others since without being the same quality. There are many places serving the lamb skewers but they are half the size. After seeing some good reviews for Kioran, I thought I would try it again. I'm not even sure if the owners are the same as the name is same with "Kiroran" added to it. Anyway…. We ordered the:<br/><br/>Tohogoshi Narin - Stir fried chicken on the bone with potatoes, chilli, garlic and home made noodles. It's like a chicken casserole on steroids. I remember trying this at the old Silk Road and wasn't impressed initially as it wasn't what I had anticipated it to be in several ways but grew to like it. The dish here was excellent! It was priced the same yet contained far more chicken. There wasn't too much onions and capsicum like the old place and most importantly, it was properly spicy hot where the one I was use to wasn't hot at all despite it being called chilli chicken. It is not often that the dish you are use to is eclipsed entirely at a later point in time as you have formed expectations already. The dish was massive and justified the $35 price. The homemade noodles were chewy and soaked up the sauce nicely. <br/><br/>The Lamb Skewers $10 (2) the meat was plump with the right amount of fat and meat ratio giving maximum flavour through the charring process over charcoal. Enhanced with cummin and chilli powder, this is the real thing for what many immitators try to copy but skimp on quality for a quick buck. Some diners may find it fatty or chewy but I personally love this cut of meat and it's the traditional cut thats normally used. For those wanting a better cut, there is the lamb rib option for $16 (2). For those who have never tried Urghur skewers and use to the chicken skewers at your local Malay or Chinese restaurant, I suggest you go the better cut. By for the connoissuers, go for the real thing!<br/><br/>The decor is very simplistic as is the dining room but it all adds to the authenticity of the place and the service is basic but friendly. I can easily see some pedantic diners criticizing this place for small things or not knowing that certain dishes are meant to be fatty or spicy but for me, this is better than the old Silk Road and very glad to have found a Uygur restaurant I can call on again!

the dining room is decidedly gaudy, but the flavours are close to original (oh so much cumin) and the handmade noodles have just the right chew. definitely a great place for carnivores but vegetarians have plenty of options too

For this foodie's weekly Wednesday night food outing, Kioraran Silk Road was the place to go. And luckily enough accompanying this foodie was a connoisseur of Uygur food, someone to help navigate the extensive menu of good and bad.<br/><br/>We ordered the Russian salad, lamb skewers, chicken and noodle plate, eggplants and naan bread. It was a big disaappoint to not have ordered the whole lamb for which for $500 would feed 25 to 40 people...perhaps next time because it truely would have been magnificent experience. The food came out relatively fast and the service was very friendly and accomodating. As for the setting, perhaps some ventilation would have helped with the stuffiness.<br/><br/>The food itself was delicious, though some better than others. The skewers were definitely the best, having a very distinct cultural flavour it was not a skewers to be confused with other skewers. The chicken was good too. I especially liked the handmade pasta although there was very little of it. Overall, I felt the food was a little overly greasy. Definity not the sort of food you can eat for every dinner. Another let down was the lack of a drink selection. I would have loved to see the restaurant bring in some Uygur drinks as well.<br/><br/>Will be back when the craving for Uygur hits me. Though my uygur connoisseur tells me her father does it better.

Where do you feed a party made up of a gluten intolerant gym junkie, a bull***t intolerant diabetic, a Muslim who really just wants chips, and two pretentious ethno food nerds? Oh, and it's got to be cheap and filling, there's some big eaters amongst us. Kiroran Silk Road Uygur is a joint we've had on our radar for a few years but never quite found the right crowd to go with. Until now. Uygur food is hearty and homely and best suited to group feeding.

The restaurant is a mere stone’s throw from the heart of Chinatown, and is situated up a flight of stairs above another Uyghur establishment. On my visit, it is a brightly lit and cheerful atmosphere inside, with a few large groups sharing laughs and drinks over their communal hot pot.

After climbing a flight of stairs you can see most of the customers are Chinese. Good sign. You can also see rugs and musical instruments hanging from the walls, which according to my sources are very typical as restaurant decorations.

There are at least three different Uygur (or Uighur) restaurants at the northern end of Chinatown's Dixon Street, each similar but with slight differences in appearance and menu subtleties. It was actually a tweet from Neil Perry that confirmed the name of the restaurant for me a few weeks after I'd eaten there, as the carpet wall hangings, red tablecloths and extreme yellow light were quite unforgettable. Cucumber with Uygur garlic sauce from Kiroran Silk Road Uygur, Dixon Street, Haymarket The group order for “20 lamb skewers, please” forced me to the salad and vegetable options pretty hastily, starting with the cucumber salad smothered with a Uygur garlic sauce. It was crunchy and refreshing in a garlicky way; the pungency of which didn't remain on the palate too long. Braised eggplant with capsicum There was unanimous agreement on the spicy eggplant dish with capsicum and onion, although it probably was not as healthy as the mere presence of a vegetable might imply. Can't pronounce it but love it. This is what i have been waiting for. There is a very simple cucumber salad dish here that showcases the art of technique and simplicity. The hand made noodles are amazing. The spiciness goes off the charts in some dishes and this is what makes this authentic slice of Uyhur food such a hit with me.

Disappointing service and food. I was disappointed by my experience at this restaurant. Some of the food took a long time (close to an hour) to be served and they got our order wrong. We ordered the chicken dish with potato and noodles. We did not get any potato in the dish and there were hardly any noodles (we ended up ordering extra noodles, although we had to ask twice because our first request never reached the kitchen). The stir fried tofu and vegetable dish was quite nice but the meat dumplings we ordered were overcooked and took an hour to come out. I love Uygur cuisine but I'm afraid I will never go back to this restaurant again.

Tasty and heavenly!. This is the best restaurant I have ever been to! It is so tasty I dream about it every day. I travel all the way from Baulklham Hills to the city just to eat here. i have eaten here multiple times and the food has always been excellent. The ambiance and interior design isn't 5 star but the taste of the food definitely makes up for it.<br/>my favourite dishes are the beef tendon, lamb dish served with tradition ugyur bread, friend lamb and i can't remember the names of the rest. <br/>The waiters are friendly and diligent. I would not eat any other place.
