I came here after hearing the owners were Malaysian and, on that aspect, I was disappointed - apart from a couple of lunch specials and the nasi lemak on Thursday and Friday, there's little Malaysian influence. My "spicy" eggs and avocado was barely spicy and the chilli sauce was more of a chimmichurri than a sambal. However, it was still a very tasty dish and pretty cheap for what you get. Other dishes also looked great for the price and the coffee was strong, creamy and syrupy. As a simple local cafe, it's almost perfect.
A small quaint cafe for your daily coffee fix or just a nice place to sip on some beautiful hand-crafted juice. Had delicious chicken and chorizo pasta to pair. Highly recommend!
Even its located in a very puzzled place here in redfern but I really like how the cafe designed so old classic vintage style. While enjoying the delicate music with the sip of coffee and some food treats from the shop. Just love it
The coffee (Golden Cobra) at Rag Land is consistently great. In fact we get our coffee here pretty much every single weekend. The food has a slight Malaysian slant because owner Dave is from Malaysia. My go-to dish is the baked eggs, which are hearty and delicious. All the furniture is repurposed. Service is friendly. And Dave has organized quite a few pop ups for Chinese New Year featuring Malaysian home-style food. Seriously fantastic food at these pop ups. I look forward to it every year now.
Venturing through a nondescript sliding door opens the quirky world of The Rag Land. You'll find quite a mix of locals who come together in this community minded cafe where diners partake in a menu boasting a range of fresh food with a slight Asian influence.
Extraordinarily friendly staff and the owner David create a welcoming atmosphere. Go there more than once or twice and they'll get know you very quickly!
Hats of to The Rag Land... My local!

I up until recently used to work around the corner from the cafe and this was the place to go to for my morning coffee. It's the cutest cafe in the area. I love the decor, filled with some antique furniture.
The coffees are great and the food is pretty decent. I especially love the pea fritters with poached egg and tomato relish. Perfect for any time of the day. The only downside is that the food does come out a little slow, but i always go when I have enough time to wait for it.
The staff are always friendly and always good for a conversation. Definitely has a very local cafe vibe with all the regular visitors.
First time here, came on Sunday 1 pm as I was in the area & had star this place on my google map (can't remember when/why). The first impression, this place does look much sleek, tho its review looks great. It’s not that big, like only six small & one big tables. Happy with our order, pork belly & egg roll, especially with Nasi lemak (Fri, Sat & Sun only), actually quite surprise they have this, its appear the owner came from Malaysia. Those are popular, they don’t have that anymore for the next customers. Food serves pretty fast, and all staffs are lovely. I believe they use Golden Cobra Coffee, which is strong & taste bitter but not a problem for me. Next time will try apple cinnamon muffins, pea fritters, or their French toast.
We visited The Ragland awhile ago when our office was located nearby. It looked like your usual quirky cafe but we were pleasantly surprised to find some Malaysian offerings on the menu. Even more so upon the realisation that the nasi lemak was actually quite authentic! The son-in-law eggs are also very noteworthy. Would definitely return to The Ragland.
Sydney's best kept brunch secret. David is super friendly and makes damn fine coffee: espresso, flat, or filter. The food is the highest deliciousness per square meter in the whole city: a kitchen the size of a broom closet delivers Asian and traditional flavour bombs. Try the "son in law" salad.
The portion was generous, the sambal was Malaysian-standard spicy and the curry chicken drumstick with potatoes were fragrant and tender. I would easily rate this the best nasi lemak in Sydney...
I popped in on a weekday morning for a rich strong macchiato and a spot of eavesdropping. I was only one of three customers, the other two ladies were super excited to quiz the owner on his new business and tell him all about the area. They
Get the pea fritters! - no, the french toast! - no the smashed eggs! Mmmm..... In a city of many cafes - it says something when you can name one your favourite. My local, the Rag Land cafe on Ragland St in Waterloo takes the prize.
The coffee is delicious, the breakfast menu is simple, the bread is delicious, and you can't go past the pea fritters, unless it's on to the out-of-this-world french toast (I haven't seen it's equal).
It's a neat setup and the staff are super friendly.
Highly recommended - this is the place for a delicious, wholesome, reasonably priced brekkie and the perfect location for a catchup with friends.
Great neighbourhood cafe. The food is delicious - try the baked eggs or pea fritters, great quality teas and the service is superb. Highly recommended.
Mmh pea fritters. Great food, great coffee and good value
Fresh, clean food. Worth visiting.
Staff are incredibly friendly. The pea fritters are enormous and super tasty. Love the homemade minted lemonade.
Great Brunch. Very relaxing brunch with a group of friends. Everyone's food was excellent. Pea fritters were large, homey, and yummy! Smoked salmon sandwich also very good. The pork belly and poached eggs were a big hit. The poached eggs are dreamy white and fluffy and bright yellow and runny when cut into...perfect! There are specialty cupcakes and the coffees are terrific! Sure hope we have time to return to the RagLand before our AUS adventure is over.
Surprise package. This was a definite surprise package for us. I usually steer clear of “hipster” cafes but as it is so close to home and convenient we decided to give it a go. I have never been disappointed. The food and coffee are great, prices are reasonable and service is good. We have become weekend regulars.
Great coffee!! The pork belly and egg roll is so fabulous, you must try it!! Friendly owner chats away to us but not too intrusive. Cool decor. Can easily miss from the street but a great little place!
PORK BELLY!. If there's anything you come here for, make sure it's the pork belly!
Replaced the pea fritter tomato chutney with pork belly instead & BLEW MY MIND. This is now our office local!
They do a mean soy chai as well. Get in there!
Great brekkie spot!. Been here a couple of times now and enjoyed both my experiences. The thing I like about this place is that they offer some really yummy food at really affordable prices.
Eggs benny for $13
Baked egg for $12
Sandwiches for $8.50
Hard to find prices like that in the Redfern or Waterloo area.
I noticed that they're getting busier so obviously the word has gotten out. Service is always good, the owners are really friendly and down to earth which is nice to see. Hopefully they keep doing well.
A quaint little place that's a great option for brunch. I really enjoyed the pea fritters and my dad the poached eggs. Good size servings and very reasonably priced. Good friendly service and nice (strong) coffee. A gem!
Worth trying. It's a bold move setting up a trendy cafe on one of Waterloo's grittiest blocks and I really hope it pays off. The Rag Land is an oasis wedged between run down shops. The vintage decor is simple and appealing. I had the pork belly and egg roll (delicious) and a coffee for $10. With that kind of taste and value, this place should appeal to the local battlers and the hipster newcomers.
Great food and great hot drinks.
A total hidden gem of waterloo.
Owner chef NIck's dishes are superb, my favourite is the malay chicken rice (hainan chicken) is a must and egg toast with avo and garlic pesto is also superb.
If you want comforting cafe environment with delicious food at budget price this is a must go
An amazing little cafe with wonderful food with great Asian twists to it. $10 for the Pork Belly Breakfast Roll is worth every crumb and I don't understand why there isn't a line out the door for them? There's other great food here but I haven't tried any of it yet... Coffee is lovely and the service relaxed and friendly. Table water is brought straight away and clean tables. Very hip cafe and comfortable chairs. This place is turning into one of my favourite places to go for breakfast fast!
The chicken rice is... Supurrrb!! The best flavor I've ever had! Coffee is a bit strong for me, but that is subjective to individuals. Friendly staff and supports local which is great!
This place is fairly new and I would call it a typical hipster cafe. I haven't had the chance yet to sit down and eat there but the food options look really inviting and yummy. I only had a cherry and chocolate hot cross bun and that was very nice and original. It's one of my favorite places for take-away coffee, as the coffee is just perfect. A large coffee costs 4 AUD which is a bit above average but worth it. The prices in general are rather high but it seems worth it, judging from the amounts of people I see hanging out there on weekends.
Great little cafe with an amazing menu. I had the egg and pork belly roll and it took everything in my power not to order a second one! Coffee was great, and the staff is very friendly!
Funky hipster bar that is a welcome addition to somewhat questionable surroundings. The coffee is single origin and the barista is a miracle worker. Breakfast options are excellent, and everything I've ever ordered here has been superb; pea fritters, breakfast board, brownie (yes for breakfast, don't judge), all-in-one-pan eggs... all amazing!! A Redfern/Waterloo fave!!!
Just discovered this place. Highly recommend the pork belly roll, the chicken and rice and the other Asian dishes. A really cheap and tasty cafe and somehow it's never that busy
Have been going fairly regularly since this place first opened.
Fantastic Golden Cobra Coffee, Lovely vibe, and delicious food at decent prices.
Coffee:
The Macchs are delicious.
Also recommend the Iced Aeropress
Breakfasts:
The Pea Fritters are delicious and well balanced in flavour
Poached Eggs w/ pork belly are fantastic breakfasts.
The chocolate brownies have a crispy top and have the perfect gooey centre.
Can be a little cramped at peak times but definitely worth trying if in the area.
