I came here craving Mexican food and drinks and that’s exactly what my got. However I actually ordered a fish burger which was delicious and juicy. The fish was fried to perfection, nice and soft. The chips were crunchy and salted and the sauce was nicely seasoned.

Great friendly atmosphere happening here with great food to make it a rounded out enjoyable time. Plenty of room and the staff are pretty quick with orders
I love El Loco, the mystery tacos, the nachos and hot dogs rock. Such a great addition to the original Slip Inn, I’ve always go time for this place.
The tacos and outdoor courtyard is my favourite part of this place. This place never disappoints as I always have a good time. Good vibes, a place for casual catch ups and after work drinks. Tip: make sure you book a table for Friday nights as it can get very packed
Good range of cocktails. Love the loaded waffle fries, nachos, chicken taco and quesadilla.
Vibrant decor.
Both the outlets are pretty good.
We find ourselves at the Slip-Inn quite often, either after work, or after having drinks elsewhere. I love the daily specials they have - the taco tuesdays are my fave. Service here is usually nice, and the food comes out really quickly. There is a nice cocktail range, and the food range is nice too.
Pub in the CBD with a good range of cocktails, beers, wines and Mexican food. They serve food til 10pm so we got in just on time. Keep in mind if you order quesadillas you just get 2. The food is ok, comes out super fast!
Located along Sussex st, Slip Inn will forever be the place where Mary Donaldson met Prince Fredrick. There's an outdoor garden and you can get el loco mexican food at the venue too.
Very friendly staff! (but I think we got overcharged slightly). The food was nice but not spectacular. They have a "secret taco" which you can order and try to guess the ingredients and if you guess correctly you get a free taco. Nice little place to chill out
Have been there a couple of times. Being a vegetarian you may not find too many choices but what all they have is amazing. Be it the chickpea salad or the jalapeno poppers or mushroom burger.. I am still drooling thinking about the super hot jalapeno poppers loaded with halloumi cheese... of course the extensive drinks selection and the open yard dining is great for parties.
This little addition to the merivale cohort was a well welcomed introduction. El loco had some great cocktails as well as a killer location. The staff were absolutely lovely from the security to the bar staff downstairs. The vibe and music was great switching from great classics to up to date all time favourites. It was a little weird to see our seats and tables go missing after a short while, otherwise the venue was great fun and definitely gave off the start of a good night. Definitely going to stop by soon to try the cocktails.
This fun spot popped up on our radar whilst googling "best cheap eats in Sydney" - the $6.50 tacos didn't disappoint, packing a vibrant flavour punch! Would definitely return - probably at 5pm for $5 happy hour :)
El loco is a great place for lunch.
Had a great team lunch and the ambience is pretty good.
Try the loco lychee cocktail, though the presentation is not much, it tastes good.
Also had some chicken tacos and tofu tacos which were better than most places.
I have to confess I am totally addicted to the El Loco hotdogs! They go perfectly with a couple of delicious jalepeno margaritas. There is always a good vibe and the staff are nice and friendly. Can be hard to get a table, so I would advise getting there early.
Pretty good place for a friday lunch for beers and food!
The tacos here are great! Love the prawn tacos and the special ones are always interesting to try. The chicken (snitchzel or half chicken) is also pretty good but only available sometimes.
Defo recommend for a good feed and revisit worthy
Quick and easy food in a fantastic space for big groups! The tacos are delicious and are filled to the brim with flavour. The frozen pink grapefruit margarita is the standout but the other cocktails are really yummy too. Service is a real let down and staff need to learn how to smile.
This place is great for groups and a few bevs. The beer garden is bright and inviting and the food is delish. I ordered the mushroom quesadilla. Love the toasted sesame seeds and they were generous with the cheese which is always good.
This is a very simple and nice place. It has a cozy feel to it. One of my colleague is a regular here and that definitely helped in getting great service.
Go to the lower floor which has an open seating and it is quiet refreshing in the evening to sit and enjoy a few drinks here.
Did not get to food here, since we had eaten already before we got here.
Beverages menu is functional. Nothing much to complaint. You can definitely look at going here as a safe option.
II've had this infamous hotdog before but I needed an excuse to go back and what better than the fact I wanted to do a write up. Plus after some reading about Dan Hong, I'm keen on doing a write up about him too.
Dan Hong started his career in his family's Vietnamese chain Thanh Binh in Sydney. I actually went out to try the one in Cabramatta and it's woeful Vietnamese food... the same way I feel about Luke Nguyen's Fat Noodle. Overpriced food that just doesn't taste that great... and in both cases it tasted bland.
In April 2011, after a ten day research trip around Mexico and the US, Dan opened Merivale’s first Mexican cantina, El Loco at the Excelsior Hotel, Surry Hills. El Loco quickly established a reputation for its mouth-watering tacos, fun atmosphere and brilliant cocktails. Since its popularity El loco has opened up another at Slip Inn in the city.
I recommend trying this at lunch times if possible. You'll save yourself the crowds and long waits. I paid my $10 at the bar and waited patiently for the hotdog. I noticed that on the table it had three bottles of habernero to pair up with my food. I'm definitely loving this place more and more.
The hotdog looks withered when it arrives as if its been sitting out for a few days and my cheese looks all funny. Don't judge a book by its cover. The cheese is actually light as air, so fluffy and just melts as it hits your tongue. It helps break down the crunchy texture of the sausage and the spicy pickled that were sparingly placed in the bun. The bun itself is well just normal. It felt like there was n sauce in the hotdog, but there's a thin layer of mayo, mustard and salsa hidden between the sausage and cheese. Normally I'd prefer to drench my hotdogs with sauce to enhance the taste but this was absolutely perfect the way it was.
It looks just like a simple hotdog but what an amazing tasting experience behind it.
I just want to go back to El Loco. I have a slight addiction I think. Luckily one of my friends had birthday drinks at the Slip Inn which gave me an opportunity to try their fries, salsa/dip with corn chips and indulge in those tacos. This is my favourite booze food. After a few vodka cranberries, the food was probably more tasty because of the inherent tipsiness that ensued. My favourite salsa/dip is still probably at Mexico in Surry Hills (which has since closed) but these snacks are still good. Fries with chipotle sauce - Chipotle fries served with chipotle mayo $ 7 Salsa, avocado and corn chips - Corn chips with Guacamole and salsa $6 Tacos! $6 each (slightly more than the Sussex version)
As I step down into the sunken courtyard of the Slip Inn I’m transported. It’s like I’ve pushed through the saloon doors of a Mexico City cantina at happy hour...
I was ecstatic to hear that there's an El Loco around Wynyard, as the one in Surry Hills is too far for post-work catch-ups. The downside? Food at Slip Inn is a tad pricier than at its Surry Hills counterpart.
Post make-over/refresh, the Slip Inn has a very peculiar feel to it – a Danish flag at the entrance; the zesty, colourful interior that’s supposed to give the place a Mexican feel; and the untouched historic bar area that has Aussie beer on tap. But somehow, this mish mash works for me – I loved the colourful decor, particularly in the outside garden area, which has an amazing ambiance on a hot Sydney summer day. Midday Friday and there’s scores of people (many no doubt part of the CBD work crowd) sitting around enjoying the sun, some drinks and Mexican bar food.
The hot dog was smothered in cheese and included jalapenos with tomato sauce, it is probably one of the best hot dogs I’ve ever eaten in my life. The jalapenos weren’t too spicy and the cheese melts as you take each bite, overall the hot dog is big enough and quite filling for one person. Since it’s a bistro style restaurant (or cantina) you order at the bar and they give you a table number in the form of MASSIVE cactus. So awesome I had to take a photo! Lemongrass Beef, Salsa Verde, Queso The tacos available at El Loco are all soft-shelled and packed with fi

Yes El Loco is now ALSO at the Slip Inn - for good. The place is lively, fun, casual and has the great El Loco food and drinks. Its deceptive too. From the street the Slip Inn looks quite calm and serene yet out the back El Loco is such a contrast - in a good way. The whole back courtyard area murals and gigantic flower pots give a fiesta feel.
I like it!. Good food, good location, good vibe!
Decent food, comes out nice and quick :) happy
Great food super tasty, good for reminiscing on my partners time in Mexico. Great vibe, the atmosphere is awesome even on a Wednesday night. Service is great. Quick to order, quick to deliver the food and quick to remove empty plates. All in all a great place :)
Have been here a handful of times since its been open, came here during the busy Fri lunch crowd. Service was fast, staff were friendly & the food has more flavour & was more delicious than previous times! Keep up the good work guys!
Good.. So happy when this opened in the city as I rather like El Loco and I've always enjoyed going to the Surry Hills venue. Food here is $1 more but I don't mind paying the difference. The place is a lot larger and you don't tend to get the fancy cactus sign you get at the other place but for the most parts the food is the same. good hot dogs, tacos, tortas and their mains are also good. I prefer SI as EL compared to the thai/genpub meal it was before
service was a bit confused with a bit group but otherwise it was good. The wait staff was efficient considering this isn't like proper dining. They bring the food. done. Guy we had bringing food was friendly.
Plenty of Fish in the Ceviche. My goodness! I must've either been in a different section or a different dimension to the previous reviewer when dining here... All respect to other's experiences but from my first bite on here I wanted to shout from the rooftops that I had finally FINALLY found non pretentious Mexican in Sydney. The ceviche was to die for and was a super-large portion. Plus, loved the japalepeno margaritas! Don't skip crunching down on the sugared jalepeno garnish. Top work.
Terrible service! Never had anyone there interested in serving or with a smile on their face. Only saving grace is the food, cheap and tasty
Very impressed. Great bar and very good and affordable food. good for any occasion, work drinks, casual, lunch or dinner. 10/10
Great to have quality affordable food in the city, as good as Excelsiors fare and a great vibe 10/10 for El Loco Slip Inn.
Love the margaritas and fish tacos!
Good corn chip dips and fantastic hit dogs
Great variety of beers, helpful and friendly staff. The beer garden rocks to the smooth tunes of the DJ.
Nice spot, tasty but simple food. A good quality pub.
The booked out tables and Q for free ones says it all - fantastic little establishment - wish less people knew about it :-)
Try the couscous dish. Atmosphere is fantastic.
Great on a Tuesday night with $5 tacos and a good tap range all $7 pints from 5-7. Tacos were fine but guac and chips was great and don't miss the churros! Make sure you get dulche de leche sauce though
Easy booking experience, easy ordering and lovely staff. Food and drink was also well made and tasty. The vibes were very good.
Wednesday night special is the taco deaL for $25 . What a great meal, loved the flavours and the steak was really good.
Such a lovely Mexican decor. The food was good considering it was mid afternoon when we ordered a meal, however wouldn't describe it as wonderful. A bit too hot for my liking.
Had a short trip into Sydney & was looking for something relatively close to the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Went to El Loco at Slip Inn at around 5:30pm.
Was relatively quiet when i got there but could see it start to fill up for"after work drinks"
Had a DIY Taco Platter (Beef), Jalapeno Margarita & Carajillo cocktail
Staff were super friendly. Food came out nice & quick & was delicious. No complaints on my visit.
