Review Gpo Maximus Cafe - Sydney

The cafe is located inside a building complex (atrium). It's cosy if you're tired of the outside and street noise. We ordered a hot chocolate which was ok. The cappuccino was good. We also got a friands which was ok, it didn't feel fresh or home made. In general the experience and quality was average, nothing special. The place is good for grabbing a quick coffee, reading a book, or meet up with a friend to talk with a bit more privacy...perfect for a raing day as it is in the atrium

Awesome cafe that makes the Best breakfast and coffee. I love this place and keep going back as the taste buds are always pleased as well as the friendly great staff that are always attentive. Thank you for being local. As for the French Toast dish on the breakfast menu is unbelievable

Good coffee spot set in the historic GPO. Must do for business folk and tourists alike. Coffee and service is usually good but getting a seat can be a bit tricky as there are a number of large office blocks nearby and it's a popular place for meetings

I'm stunned by very indifferent service... a staff just took my order and left my coffee on my table without any words...no words upon payment by another staff as well. It is sad that you can't expect resonable coffee experience in one of the most iconic places in Sydney.

Great coffee. I love their menu especially the breakfast one. Will surely bring my friends next time.

Positive and negative things to say about the GPO. It's fairly pricey, with a very 'city' crowd (negative), with quite plush surroundings and plenty of nooks to sit with your date / friends (positive). GPO has a good selection of food options, and you and your dining partners can order from different restaurants if you wish (positive for those of us with groups of varied tastes). It's definitely worth trying!

I go to this place because of its location. Coffee is fine. It’s centrally located to meet people and the GPO naturally has nice ambience.
The food is very average cafe fare. The seating could at least have a few dollars spent to reflect the grandness of this location.

Tucked behind the Martin Place it is in the prime Sydney location.

We were both told no chicken avocado sandwich and had get smoked salmon instead, which was a tad disappointing as it happened few minutes after order taking.

The place gets a 5 for ambience and location but less than 3 for energy--it needs little oomph, which was missing.

The ladies at maximus are stars of cafe service. With a wonderful open setting within the historic general post office building maximus cafe works for me as a quick stop over our convenient spot for a coffee meeting any day

Maximus Cafe is well positioned to take advantage of the grandeur of GPO Grand. It also made for a suitable spot to celebrate International Coffee Day with the lovely @saint_anderson_cafe and @the.eatventures. Cappuccino ($4.80) had a nice strong flavour and smoothness. Perhaps a bit pricey but if you get it as a takeaway its much cheaper, actually less than $3.50. Found out if you choose to sit down you need to order something so keep in mind if you're catching up with friends as everyone will have to order something if you're wanting to sit down. Thanks @saint_anderson_cafe for taking a photo of me with my coffee. There's simple sandwiches available and they make a pretty good affogato for $6.50 which I've had before.

The customer service here is really poor. I ordered my food separately to the person I was eating with, so I could be reimbursed for my meal by my work. When it came to pay I asked if we could have separate receipts because we didn't order together and they refused to give this to us. After I explained that I really needed my own receipt they finally let me pay separately. They told me that it was a massive inconvenience to them to split bills, which I understand, but they were really rude about it and I felt pretty uncomfortable. Food and coffee is good but if you plan on inconveniencing them then you might be better off going somewhere else.

Ugh my coffee was watery. This place is best left for business meetings not for food. Anything inside the GPO is easy on the eye hence feels a little impressive. The table service is dressed to impress and are lovely. The breakfast menu has changed its not appealing... just toast, bland toasties and a couple of bakery options. Disappointed I defaulted to a Pear & Raspberry bread, hard to complain about cake for breakfast :) It was served without a fork! I hope that was a mistake and not the norm as the business suits that frequent here wouldn't eat it with their fingers in front of clients!!!
