Bar Mattino is situated on the corner of Abercrombie Street and Meagher Street (opposite Café Giulia ). It's a small, neat, unassuming place with friendly service and excellent food: below, spaghettini with chilli chicken and olives, and pan-fried fish on a bed of lentils, roasted tomato and spinach, accompanied by (on the left) a fruit frappé and an apple and ginger juice postively bursting with ginger. Bar Mattino may be overshadowed by its trendy neighbour, but every time I've been there the food has been wonderful.

In an area of town under-serviced by cafés, two of the most popular entries sit opposite one another, each with a staunchly loyal following. The service here has particular warmth, and the serves are definitely bigger; so you might want to bring a friend if you decide to take on the brimming Mattino Antipasto Plate ($20) . The place I call 'my local'. Since moving to Chippendale, Bar Mattino has become 'my local', such status generally only reserved for a great pub. With great food, atmosphere and staff, Bar Mattino is an absolute gem and certainly one of the very best cafe/restaurants in Sydney. The Sunday roasts are Sydney's finest.
Fab. This place has the best salads..and I hate salad. The people are wonderful and it is seriously good at feeding all of us work nearby, and at great value. Love it.
I have been a regular at Mattino since I was a local. Now that I reside on the 'oppa norf shore' we treat ourselves to a Mattino lunch whenever we are in the area. BEST COFFEE IN TOWN and they don't even skite about it.
Great way to start the day. Brekky here is so delish!! Great range so it was hard to choose but brekkies I've had here include BLT, baked eggs, breakfast panini ... and more. The coffee is superb and the service quick and really friendly. Very highly recommended!
I eat breakfast at Bar Martini fairly often - they so care about the quality of the food they prepare - it's original and tasty - and their coffee and herb tea are consistently good.
Best breakfast we have had in Sydney. I like that they also do half serves - perfect with children. Have been many times and have yet to be disappointed. Coffee great too. Highly recommend my dayghter's favorite- the French toast. Have also had the Sunday lunch roast sandwich - perfect
Best. Place. EVER.. After going to Cafe Giulia across the road and finding a fly in my food...to have them remake it and find another fly. The Chief then rolled his eyes at me and had a go because I complained. I was disgusted and put off so I wandered across the street. BAR MATTINO IS AMAZING. Absolutely lovely staff...AMAZING food...and best of all bug free!
Good service, great coffee. Despite being overshadowed by its glamorous neighbour, Cafe Giulia, Bar Mattino is a nice little place with appreciably more friendly service, great raisin toast and (gasp!) better coffee.
I go to this cafe every time I walk home from school. The staff there are very fun peopleand they remember what I like to drink
I gave this place a try for lunch and have to say it surprised me, in a good way. The quality of food is much better than the average café-at-the-street-corner. I was truly impressed by my duck linguine, and so was my friend with her food. The coffee was not amazing, but enjoyable, although to be fair Sydney has significantly raised my coffee standards. The service was excellent: the waitress was upbeat, welcoming and attentive to our requests. Now that I think about it, I have no idea why I have not been back here again.
You can get a very good Double Roasters' espresso here. Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere and generous portions of quality foods with some British menu inclusions. Worth visiting!
Fantastic hearty food, extremely generous servings and professional and friendly service. Yes, compared to the attitude and posers over the road at Cafe Giulia this place is an absolute pleasure to spend a weekend morning/lunchtime.
health menus, and very good deal for breakfast. il mattino, also as the name suggest, which means "morning", is ideal for long and satisfying breakfasts, which help you to recover from hangover. very good coffee and very typical location just few steps from central station. try it before a big trip around sydney!
Fantastic breakfast and lovely service without the added 'cafe society' attitude. Bar staff were singing along to the radio. Pleasant feel.
I go there for a coffee every day and lunch often - the food is great and they are some of the friendliest people you'll meet. I promise you won't be sorry if you give them a try.
