Love this spot! It is my local after work drink. They have happy hour for beer and wine. The vibe is awesome and the menu is perfectly simple. A bar you can sit in for hours over a bottle of wine. Great outdoor space as well. Bar out the back, a courtyard up top and my personal favourite is the terrace balcony spot. Enjoy it!
Fans of the Rabbit Hole will be big fans of Wood and Smoke in Darlinghurst. The owner has taken the charm of Rabbit Hole and turned this into the new place to be for delicious cocktails and very easy to eat food. As the weather is a bit cooler, I end up going upstairs rather than the little outside garden area. I've even got a jacket on but I am enjoying the rustic charm inside. So let's look at the menu for food and the menu for cocktails.

Wood and Smoke bar is the reincarnation of the Rabbit Hole, that operated in Elizabeth street for quite a few years. Wood and Smoke is operating now in Darlinghurst, where Johnny Fontane’s used to be. It’s a cool venue, with a wooden interior, impressive bar (well stocked and ready to please any palate) and lots of seating across multiple levels and a courtyard at the back.
Formerly Rabbit Hole, these guys offer a bar scene with nibbles or go for something more substantial from the menu. The drinks and food here is top notch.
I enjoyed:
-the bread
-the olives
-crispy fried tofu
-eggplant
-yellowtail kingfish
-seared tuna
Take your pick, you can't go wrong. Great place for after work drinks or catch up with friends. Cute space with outdoor area in the back and there's also upstairs.
Decided to come here for Friday end-of-week drinks. First things first, walking in....super cosy and inviting environment. Dimly lit and very up-market feel. Extremely clean. Food was yum......Got the beef skewers, king fish skewers, olives and in-house baked bread. Delicious and huge portion size. The main bar man, may be the owner is a cocktail master..... we enjoyed a rangeof the weirdest yet wonderful cocktails. Super friendly service. Very warm. Decent music as well. Great night, no complaints. Will come back.
One of a few hidden gems in Darlinghurst, new to the hood serving tapas style menu with great drinks and wines on offer. They also have more substantial meals like burgers, steaks and more for those who feast like Kings but they are more known for their Robata style food (BBQ).
We were dragged along by a few friends who used to swear by The Rabbit Hole, and they were super keen to try this new version of the place out. It was pretty quiet when we went, I’m assuming the word hasn’t gotten around yet so we were the only people there for most of the night.
The bartender and the waiter were both super friendly, and joined us in conversation for a while as well. The food? Pretty darn good. $15 on Tuesday nights for six giant pieces of fried chicken which was properly delicious. Could’ve used more mayo to go with it initially but you can easily ask for more. The oysters looked pretty good too, and the drinks were very nice.
It’s smaller than their original joint but it feels more spacious and it seats almost the same amount of people. Definitely worth coming for good food and if you loved The Rabbit Hole.
The revolving doors of new bars and restaurants in Sydney continues with Rabbit Hole Bar and Dining taking over where Johnny Fontane's used to be. Hump day is quiet and calm during their soft opening week before the official grand opening on Friday 6 July. Bartender is friendly and welcoming. Their signature cocktails sound good but not quite ready to be made until Friday so my Plan B Negroni ($19) is a good choice using Australian Twenty Third Street Distillery gin which apparently prices around the $70 a bottle mark. Goes down well, too well, and gone in minutes but achieves a happy place on the upstairs balcony which I think are the best seats in the bar. As part of my toilet reviews here's a warning for the boys, and girls. When the guys toilet door is opened ladies will get a good showcasing of the urinals when walking past — you've been warned. The food menu looks great and promising. Looking forward to trying the snacks and charcoal menu items. Hopefully they'll be opening for lunches in the near future.
Popped in for a quiet drink before dinner and realised we were hungry so ordered a charcuterie board which was awesome. Excellent value with a great electioneering of tasty goodies! The house wine was great. Place had a nice chilled out vibe and staff efficient and friendly! Great addition to East Sydney!
A very nice atmosphere, great food, nice selection of whiskey and good craft beer! The place is so cosy and the staff are awesome. I had a great time and I will definitely go there again!
A great place to start the night or finish the night. Unique and wonderful cocktail options which will impress and leave dates in awe. The owners have a passion for the theatre of the cocktail and are always pushing the boundaries in this area.
Food was delicious. The pizza tasted great and cocktails were very interesting and tasty. Also the music and art were so on point. Great vibe
Always good to pass along with friends and have nice bottled beer or on tap, spirits too!
Came here about a month ago with a friend and had drinks at the bar. We ended up chatting all night with the owner and the GM. These guys are AWESOME! The bar is fully stocked with some of the best beers local to Australia and there are heaps of gins available. We also drank outdoors on the patio - and it's a great vibe. I'd definitely come back and want to try their food.
