Review Saltie. - Sydney

Coffee beans powered by Gabriel, it was satisfying taste and so rewarding to have an awesome first taste of good quality coffee in the morning. Definitely set for the benchmark for other cafe surrounding! Service was good and friendly too.

Lovely place. They’ll do any of the menu items vegan for you. Great coffee and service. Can’t recommend enough. Delicious cauliflower wrap.

Holy cannoli, this place is so underated I feel - I stumbled here a few weeks ago and they whipped me up a vegan bowl on request, and a different vegan bowl today... Both were crazy good! I was surprised. I haven't had such awesome flavours in a takeaway bowl before. If I lived closer I'd eat here all the time!! And they're one of the few places still open ATM. And they're so friendly! So if you're close by, definitely go!

Great food and perfect coffee. Give the lambo a try, hands down best thing on the menu.

It's ok but seems to have all ingredients put together without much efforts. I understand bowls are mostly done that way, but comparing it to a competitor a few blocks away where I was wowed by the bowl they served me, this one made me think "it's alright". For the price I would have expected a bit more (quantity and quality) based also on comparison with other nearby lunch places. Not really impressed unfortunately.

Great hole in the wall takeaway joint. Coffee and food is quality and very well priced for the area, the lunch bowls especially are an excellent option to grab on the run. Service is quick and cheerful, it's always my go-to if I'm on the way to the station. Top marks from me!

I use to pass by every morning and grab my coffee for work. So sad that I moved work and can no longer visit. Quality of coffee is great and a discount when you bring your own cup too!

Been coming here for over a year now at least once a week to have their wonderful bowls!

My favourites are the Lambo, Cheeky, Onset and the Salmon/Rice (add Avocado and it is extra spectacular).

What this place does right is their perfection of the world “simplicity” - this is simple, healthy and filling food that makes you feel good.

Thanks guys!

Found my favorite coffee with Gabriel coffee beans near my office. I was so happy! Tasted really good 👍 the inside is well decorated and color coordinated, must stay for a drink next time!

I like Saltie. Good ingredients, good service. The food is pretty healthy, but with some fried elements (none significant enough to blow out a normal diet). A good combination of pulses and savoury flavourings. They do a burger but most people go for the bowls. I’ve had the salmon and edame, the lamb, the ‘Cheeky’ (Fried chicken, slaw, pickles, brown rice and chilli mayo) and the ‘Osaka’ (Panko fried avocado, sashimi salmon, green salad, rice and chilli mayo). All about $12 and fairly filling. The lamb’s great but my fave is the Osaka. They also do coffee. Try it.

Deadset bunch of legends! Get my coffee from here every day and they kill it every time. Food is also always on point, and everything on the menu is on point :)

The fried chicken burger was great! For $10, its a bargain. Juicy chicken and the slaw was on point. Fries fried to perfection. The matcha mint pistachio was a disappointment. For $6, it comes in a small bio cup and lacking in any pistachio flavour. Subtle mint taste but it simply taste like matcha. However, happy to come back for the burger. Service is meh.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
On a super simple Haloumi Burger ($10) there is no place for floury tomatoes to hide. It’s an inauspicious introduction to the new kid on the decimated remains of Devonshire Street; though after removing the offending slices, I am able to improve my burger using the generous serving of well-drained, skinny fries. Despite the plethora of plated food photos gracing Instagram, get it into your head that Saltie is predominantly a takeaway food and coffee counter. The handful of bar stools sit right in the service area, and are generally used by people surfing the internet on their iPhones while they wait for their coffee orders. Saltie uses clean lines and sparse decoration to good effect in the tiny space. The menu is equally bare bones – bowls, burgers and all-day breakfast items – supplemented by a counter full of salads, and some specials written up on the chalkboard. After four or five visits to give the menu a good going-over, my go-to lunch-to-go is...
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
You could be forgiven for walking past Saltie’s as the cafe scene in Sydney is saturated with great choices. Upon first glance it’s easy to think that is your run off the mill takeaway coffee joint, but this not so hidden gem has so much more to offer. With its rustic seaside boutique styling and simple menu, we were keen to begin.

On the run looking for a bite to eat? Saltie in Surry Hills is the place. Just up from central station on Devonshire St, is this great little takeaway. Saltie a simple, clean modern style with the coffee machine at the window, some bench seats and a selection of salads in view at the back of the shop.
The RnB Diary
As the saying goes, good things come in small packages; if there is any truth to this then Saltie should be on to a winner as they are definitely a contender for the title of Sydney’s most petite café. Patrons who manage to secure a seat are joining a very exclusive club as there are only a handful of stools so it’s clear that the two friends who own Saltie have an eye on the takeaway market.

Not only does its name appeal to my salt lovin' senses, but the food (for lack of a better word) is amazing!😝#smashedavo 🥑#baconandeggs on #brioche 🥓🍳 #frenchtoaststicks 🥖Everything was superb!👌🏻Grab something to go or stay and enjoy the coffee☕️ Definitely a place to try out this Autumn. @mybondisummer @saltie.surryhills #saltiesurryhills #mybondisummer

New to the block - Saltie is a buzz of coffee lovers and people dropping in and out grabbing a bite on the go. The menu is relatively small however there is also a daily selection of salads, slices and sandwiches.

The coconut coffee took my interest - coconut water with espresso pour over. It was refreshingly different and perfect for a hot day. The Nutella hot chocolate is on my list for next time.

The lunch options are small but have something to please the health conscious as well as the burger lovers!! The poke bowl with tuna, shallots, sesame oil, sea salt and brown rice was a filling and guilt free treat. However if you are hungry I would go for the super bowl with crispy kale and quinoa salad topped with a fried egg. The most popular burger is the salties fried chicken - fried chicken, slaw, house made garlic sauce, pickles and fries. For $10 this was great value however ours was missing the pickles!

If you are in the area and looking for a takeaway option - saltie is the one!
The Next Rush
They are answering the call to fresh, turbo charged healthy (with a bit of indulgence) boosts to your morning commute and quick lunch breaks. This new hole in the wall cafe in its striking green hues is the hottest place in town right now and set to be a local fave! Fun, inventive yet practical - just like their menu, get up close and personal with Yass, Corey and Chef Felippe's hangout. It’s specifically designed for the fast paced Surry Hills urbanite!

COCONUT COFFEE: if you like your Soy lattes, there’s something reminiscent of that nuttiness in this with a bit of theatrics. Straight from the shell, your iced coconut water gets a hot espresso pour over and there’s a nice ‘lemon-lime-bitters-like’ float that brings some fun into your morning caffeine hit.

The SUPER BOWL is not just about the healthy Crispy kale and quinoa salad, but the inviting soy sweet chili toss with globs of avocado creme and sunny side up eggs. Too tasty to be healthy - totally a big fan of this!

SALTIES FRIED CHICKEN BURGER:
Crispy chicken in a house made garlic drenched slaw and pickles! Soft tender meat centre with a nice crusty casing moistened by the house made garlic sauce slaw crunch! Epic!!!!
.
YOGHURT & GRANOLA - cinnamon breathes new life into any yoghurt and is a great combination with Orange, Apple, Strawberry and Kiwi!
Quick, Easy and straight to the point while getting up close and personal in the cute little space.

If you see a queue coming out of the door, trust me, put in the time, it’s worth the wait!

Update:
Came here to try out the lamb bowl, unfortunately I had food envy as the others I was with ordered the chicken burg. The lambo bowl was a bit of a let down for me, meat was too salty & chewy with a few bits of gristle which I had to spit out. I was expecting this to have salad as mentioned on the board but it only had meat, brown rice & tomato & cucumber. It felt rather oily too. Overall, I think I will just stick to the chicken burgs from here and save me the heartache of food envy again. I will keep the score of 5 purely on the chicken burg & matcha frappe.

Was enticed to try this place as from my insta feed. The fried chicken burg is def whats up here. An absolute steal for $10 with fries, looking at older pics they have changed to shoestring fries which is def a good move. Great soft bun, with a decent sized crunchy slab of deep fried goodness that is chicken. Oh that slaw, oh so creamy yet so playfully crunchy in it's own special way. I'm sorry, I may have picked out the pickle but that is my own preference....have it your way. Fries, crisp & each & every chip with just the right amount of seasoning.

I'm in a matcha phase right now, so I could look no further than the Saltie Matcha pistachio frappe.....such a great idea on the slightly warmish day that I had these delights. Both flavours equally balanced & a great twist of flavours.

I say if your around the area & craving a burg, give this place a go. I know I'll be back for more!

Great service awesome coffee but you have to try the Super Bowl if you're in the area. Best thing I've had in a very long time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This new little gem is well worth popping in for breakfast or lunch. The hospitality was phenomenal. The menu is small but what ever is offered is quality. The French toast was cooked perfectly and honestly was one of the best I have tasted. The smashed avo was so tasty as it was made with tahini crema, sesame seeds and lemon and the super bowl was out of this world. It consists of crispy kale , quinoa, avocado crema and topped with a fried egg. The drinks menu has a good variety and the coffee was amazing. Highly recommend this wonderful cafe.

Great coffee and delicious food and they even offer something for those looking for something different like matcha and tumeric lattes.
Takes every ounce of self control to not devour all the delicious looking muffins but the best part is if you bring your own reusable cup, you get 50cents off your coffee!
