I dined here on a Wednesday night with a friend. We booked ahead (a must for this place) and were seated immediately. I find the menu is more designed to share so that's what we did. We ordered an array of dishes:
- "pane fritto, anchovy" (anchovy on crusty bread thing) - what a way to start, so much flavour. Could have eaten 10 of them.
- "Caponata" - I really enjoyed this. A mixture of roasted veggies with currents and capers.
- "Prosciutto Toscana" - bit more self explanatory. Flavoursome cured meat served with crustini sticks
- Tagliatelle, pork ragu, ricotta - not your average pork ragu. I was blown away by this dish, was not what I was expected at all. Would have happily devoured just this.
- John Dory "Al Cartoccio" - Fish cooked in paper with zucchini and puree. So much flavour and fish was cooked perfectly.
- Pepper Al Forno - a perfect side dish to go with our main.
- Panna Cotta - Yum. Got the wobble right and I loved the tartness of the sauce on the bottom
- Rhubarb, Zabaglione cream - A good combo of sweet, savoury and tart flavours. Points for presentation too.
We also tried some of the wines. I tried my first ever orange wine which was refreshing. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at Don Peppino's. I liked the ambience of the restaurant too, natural light and decor.
Great fresh good. Make sure you get the garlic bread.
Service fantastic too.
Great late night spot.
Went with my family to celebrate my birthday on Saturday night. Being a new establishment there aren't many reviews to go off and I wasn't quite sure if the venue would be kid friendly given I have a 4 and 7 year old. Anywho, I took the gamble.
I can only comment on our experience.
Once you walk up a couple of flights of steps, we were greeted with a friendly smile and shown to our table. Our host for the night was Sam.
Sam was fantastic. He took the time to explain pretty much every item on the menu then gave us a few minutes to decide on what we would like. The way Don Peppino's is structured, the meals are meant for sharing. So don't go expecting big serves of pasta. In fact there were only 2 types of pasta on the menu. So Sam helped us with our ordering. To be honest, we were trying things we probably would normally skip. But we were glad we tried them as they were really delicious. The kids loved the Pane Fritto Anchovy, Tonnarelli and we all loved the lamb rump. Just beautifully cooked, juicy and tender. Roast potatoes were outstanding, nice and crunchy.
Apart from the food, the reason for writing a review and giving this venue 5 stars was really the service we received from Sam and Ava.
Sam really interacted with our kids which they loved. He took time to entertain them even when it was busy. My daughter ended up drawing a picture of Sam and Ava on the paper Sam provided.
Both kids got their drawings stuck on the mirror behind us.
Overall, Sam was great with the friendliness, service and knowledge. We really felt he went above and beyond which added to the amazing experience of the night.
To top it off, and I was really blown away by this as it's never happened to me before, Sam organised a mandarin cup with a candle on it, all the lights went out, music stopped in the restaurant and I had everyone singing happy birthday to me, including other guests.
So we had a great experience with great food and great service. A truely memorable night.
Highly recommend!
Located in a rather derelict looking, but actually Art Deco building, this light and airy restaurant provided our party with great food, excellent service and a good time. The food was light but more than enough. No espresso coffee, which is a little weird....
All I can say is wow, and I hope that these guys set up a permanent shop somewhere. Cool vibe with moody lighting and great music choices is just the start. Food is incredible and the highlight is definitely the garlic bread which is beyond tasty! Pasta has incredible flavour which will have you ordering more and more! Wine choices are solid, delicious and nicely priced. Can’t wait to be back!
This place serves the most delicious modern Italian food. The self oozing garlic bread is a massive hit. The pasta is impeccable too!! really good flavours, I would highly recommend this place, try book in advance as it gets quite busy! Nice wine list too! 10/10
Delicious food and great atmosphere. The garlic bread was the best I’ve ever had! Friendly, attentive service. Small but carefully created menu and a nice drinks list. Makes the most of this space. Will come again!
From decore, to staff, food and drinks, Don Peppino's is a delightful experience. The space itself is romantic and quirky, with a stunning long bar. When taking your order, the staff are more like consultants - discussing every option and listening with care to suggest a meal which matches your exact wants. Even our needs (vegan, gluten free no nuts!). The food is just divine!
What an absolute gem of a place - wonderful food, friendly staff and such a unique atmosphere. Loved every moment and morsel. We shall return!
Omg finally been. Unreal garlic bread. Monte Bianco literally made my eyes watery as that amazing it was. Thank you! <3
The garlic bread was delicious! The food overall was great.. the portions are on the smaller side. A great venue for a date, love the moodier lighting as it's not too bright. The wine great. If you're hungry, expect a decent bill.
