It’s not often that it rains for days in Sydney. It’s regular in my hometown of Vancouver, but I think the two week stretch (at least) of drizzle and rain and a few really heavy downpours in October made the city a bit stir-crazy. At least I was going stir-crazy. So, arriving at my hairdressers too early, in the rain, and finding mysteriously that at 3pm, all the cafes in the neighbourhood seemed to be shut down. Well, that is a bummer. Luckily, Cafe Banter was there to save the day with a paleo lemon slice (light and creamy, very nice) and a very acceptable latte with above average latte art.
I had the burger and chips with extra hauling and smoked salmon. The shoestring chips were perfect with the meal. The salmon was good. The haluomi was beautiful. The one thing that I didn’t like was the hashbrown in the burger. It was too oily. And the aioli sauce was a bit too much. Other than that it is delicious.
Had that day's blackboard special a home made pasta with seafood and chilli spice. Really liked it. The coffee is nice enough to be my go to place for a quick one to go. Service is friendly. Doesn't pretend to be a culinary spectacular, just reasonable price tasty freshly prepared food, I.E. no bain marie.
A cute little cafe in the heart of Redfern. Came across it for breakfast one morning and wasn't disappointed. Decor is industrial and simple, with eight tables inside and a handful of seating outside. Coffee is nice, and they have a good-sized menu. I had a ham and cheese croissant which was nice - that and the coffee came to $11.50.
Excellent food! Ordered the banter (beef) pie and zucchini ricotta fritters; the pie came with a bucket of shoe-string fries that we seasoned with the cracked pink salt provided at our table. The fritters were served with two generous slices of bacon, well-made poached eggs and fresh avocado slices. Amazing value for our money - will definitely visit again! Extremely pleased with presentation. Also, friendly staff to complement the experience. Please check it out!
Fresh made Gnocchi!! with roasted Tomato salsa, Provolone and Gremolata!
Every time I come here I'll find amazing flavors! And great quality! :)
Stumbled into this nice cafe in Redfern.
The food is delicious and of a decent size. There is a special for weekends where you can add a coffee and juice for only $5. I thought the juice would be just a simple one but you can pick any of the ones on the menu. I chose the zinger which has pineapple, ginger, apple and lime. It was so refreshing.
The wait staff are so nice and helpful but can sometimes be a little disorganised. They forgot to give me the table number so when the food and drink came out they almost couldn't find which table to give it to. Despite this i would recommend this place.
Really helpful staff and a nice takeaway coffee. There were a few items that really caught my eye on the menu and I'm looking forward to returning to try them.

Excellent breakfast and service. Don't know many places in America like this (I was on holiday at the time of writing) and I believe that the choice of music, and the atmosphere in general were amazing. The prices were a tad high (I paid $15 for a breakfast burger) but I believe that it was worth it. The lighting solution was pretty neat too.
The staff are friendly and the food delicious, albeit a little on the unhealthy side. The coffee is also quite nice but there are better options in the area. Having said this, I do like coming here once in a while for breakfast. The outside seating area is great for those that like to people watch.
Friendly and they always remember our household order for Saturday coffees. Coffee is typical for Sydney. There are nice choices for both a quick bite-- try their bacon egg bagel roll-- or a solid brekkie. Scrambled eggs are done just right, their sourdough is delicious, and the sides are generous. The outdoor space is a nice choice when the weather cooperates.
Great place.. If you're after a posh taste for your taste buds definitely visit and choose from the specials.. Foods simply exquisite and bang on.. Will out do all your expectations for your normal mediocre cafe and price is quite res
Called in looking for a toilet, Coffee and snack (in that order). Found a great cafe, great vibe, great staff.
Nice serving staff, decent coffee. Hot chocolate was fairly average, and we waited a long time for our order. Cool decor inside, though.
Definitely my favourite cafe in the area, the food is very filling and tastes great. Also great variety for all day food, and good coffee too.
