This place had been on my list forever, with so many positive reviews, expectations were very high. It was not as busy as expected for a Saturday night, there were plenty of tables available upstairs where we got seated. The service was friendly & prompt. They also had a good selection of drinks. The food though was some what hit & miss. Loved the Spanner crab, prawn & sweet corn “bolas” tapa; the jamon serrano on the charcuterie board was also great. On the other hand, the mallorquina, like a sticky chorizo filling without the sausage skin, was heavy & hard to eat. Also not sold on the fried egg in with the mushrooms side. The “chicken wings” were more just frenched mini drumettes. Overall was ok, maybe if the place was busier the atmosphere would be more exciting.
Love the food. Great selection of wine. would be a good choice for any occasion. Gets very busy at night, please leave the bottle on the table.
Came here for a team lunch and loved the vibe !! Food is amazing and the service staff is attentive. Their wine collection is pretty good. Lovely place To get away to for a work lunch.
Love this place, their aged Iberico Cebo with their red wines is such a great combo. I love the braised pork jock, duck liver pate and Manchego cheese. You can also sit outside and watch the work go by.
Delicious and interesting first plates that intrigued and delighted us. The thinly sliced ham melted in the mouth, the wild mushrooms were simple & very tasty, and soft cow’s cheese was infused with lavender and honey.
I booked a table at Tapavino for my birthday because I’ve heard good reviews from my friends. The staff were extremely friendly and we were served really quickly too. I still can’t get over how good the food is! My company and I left feeling absolutely satisfied and wished we could’ve stomached more food. I’ll definitely have to come back to try more of their food and drinks menu.
Ive been here twice now, and am consistently blown away by the staff! Very friendly, professional and informative.
The food is simply amazing! Highly recommend the beef cheeks, jámon and my absolute favourite the cheese and honey.
While working in Sydney CBD 2 days a week, my friend and I always scouted new places to eat. Tapa vino was on the list for a long time and we finally went.
Tucked away in the lane in Circular Quay, it's got outdoor and indoor seating with lovely staff. They had some good vegetarian options. I don't remember the names of the dish and I am too lazy to look them up in the menu but they were delicious, especially the sweet potato dish, amazing.
Would definitely go back.
Loved to have a dessert here nice place good food good service presentation was nice can hangout alone as well as with a gang not overpriced all satisfaction are available
Used to go to Tapavino regularly when I was in the area, it has been about 4-5 yrs since. Went there in March for dinner expecting the same level of food and tastiness. Was disappointed they took the lamb off the menu as that was one of the best dishes. We ordered a good selection of food and was still tasty as I remember
Hidden gem at circular quay. Really good place for date night with your S/o or just a catch up place with your girlfriends.
The place is really small, ambience reminds me of what you would find in the alley ways of Paris or Rome type of feel.
Pros
- when we ordered the charcuterie, we thought, oh is that all? But we actually enjoyed it. It wasn’t too salty, it had an element of sweetness, salt from the salami, sour from the pickles and the cheese to combine it all.
- ambience is nice, cosy
- my boyfriend really liked how the staff was attentive and continued to pour his glass of water
- stuffed chicken thigh was nice
- THE PATE!!!! So goooood
Cons
- it’s very intimidate, close to other tables - if you like you personal space
- tables are small
- the individual servings are average, nothing wowed me
- tuna tartare was meh, thought it would be better
We came for an early dinner at starting at 5. The food was fast and hot. I'll be here again because this was great. The service and quality was outstanding. Go here please

Amazing food. Great selection of vino. And nice ambience. What more can one ask for. Staffs were really friendly as well, making the whole experience one to remember.
Lunched here on a beautiful summer afternoon. All the dishes were delicious but my fav was the beef cheeks with chickpea puree, the beef was packed full of flavour and melted in my mouth. The spiced roasted sweet potato was beautiful too - spices and sour cream balanced the sweet potatoes so well.
Service was the let-down... waitress was on the phone and threw the dish down without saying anything.. I expected better customer service than that. Food wad fantastic tho
Can you believe that tapas can make you full? Of course! you just need to eat a lot ! They were so delicious and you cannot help yourself, especially the duck liver paste and clams. I also like the Mirror Dory, you have to try it if you like special sauces! And for desert I highly recommend the coconut and lime crema, light and sweet so you won't get sick of it.

Yearning for Spain again - we really do love it there - we felt like some tapas for dinner so decided to go to Tapavino near Circular Quay in Sydney. We weren't the only ones! The place was busy. Choosing the later sitting suited us as we could stay longer. From the Tapas menu we had the crispy potato skins, zucchini pisto, goats curd pisto. This had really nice flavours, the potato skins were lovely and crispy and the zucchini and goats curd pisto combined well.
Beef cheek and duck liver pate is amazing! Portion on the bigger side for tapas as well... we were ordering 6 dishes however the lady warned us 4 would be enough.. and guess what... she was right! She was also spot on with she recommendation of wine.
Love this place, will come back again!!!!
Best chicken liver pate and charcuterie in the city!!! always buzzing, and always friendly! the house malbec is a gem!
Always love to go their and enjoy the terrace with some tapas after a hard day work!
Being tucked away in a cobbled lane helps to set the scene... If lucky enough you may score a table outside and enjoy some alfresco dining... just as you might on a summers evening in Spain.
The wine list is well chosen and Spanish, and the staff know their wines.
The food was delicious and servings generous. We had the:
- Jamon with burrata. The burrata was the hero of this dish, delightfully creamy and subtly flavoursome. - Sardines - fresh and bursting with flavour.
- braised chorizo - my favourite dish of the evening, as I've never had chorizo prepared in this way. It was slow cooked and literally melted in your mouth. The tomato based sauce was rich and juicy and not too tart.
- beef cheeks - cooked to perfection but slightly lacking in flavour. The chickpea purée however was delicious and the better half of the dish.
- shaved cabbage salad - would recommend adding to your meal, to balance the intensity and heaviness of the other dishes.
Overall delightful. My only negative of the night was the rather brusque way in which we were made to leave, as they wanted to seat the next lot of diners.
In saying that I would happily go again (with a second seating booking) to try the desserts and other dishes.
Stumbled across this place when we were staying at the Marriott and was too lazy to venture far for food. The few tapas dishes we ordered were delicious, especially the jamon was really amazing. The sangria was pretty good too. Only the space downstairs was quite tight and can be noisy with large crowds dining next to us.
A memorable hens party dinner celebrated at tapavino. We had quite a number of dishes to share but there were some crowd favourites.
Smoked paprika popcorn was buttery, spicy and addictive. Duck liver pate was not too overpowering and had more like a parfait texture, so that worked very well for me. Chicken, truffle and asparagus terrine was one of my favourite dishes of the night as the hint of truffle was just enough to tickle your taste buds and the crunch of the asparagus added texture. Boquerones were just nicely salted, not mushy but soft and went really well on toast. I don't see it too often in Spanish restaurants, so that was a nice treat! A visit to tapavino is incomplete without some jamon, which we gladly obliged with the jamon iberico. It was soft layers of ham which melted in your mouth.
There are a lot more exciting things on the vast menu that I would want to come back to try. Also, a massive thanks to the waiters for the evening who were very attentive and accommodating to our every need. I like!
Amazing food and an even more amazing collection of wines. Waitresses are very accomodating, great atmosphere for group get togethers. Would be too noisy for an intimate date night. Overall, very good experience.
Spanish tapas rocks - we all know that! However one never ceases to be surprised once they are at Tapavino! Super service delivered by a young team who go all the way to make sure you don't wait long between your dishes! And the taste?
D E L I C I O U S! Would visit this anytime for some quality tapas and vino!
excellent place for a drink and snack when wearing the pin-striped uniform and want to remember younger days in Barcelona ! Just had some glasses of an excellent Tempranillo with a few tapas plates. Manager was great but wait staff a bit haphazard and the food (while delicious) was a bit rustic. However great atmosphere in the otherwise soul-less city in the evening and a genuine Spanish feel to it. Not cheap but worth it - however go the bottle not the glass ! The red is delicious and after our group drank 9 reds by the glass we worked out we should spend more time planning our evening ! Really nice place to go "of a Tuesday" !
Tapavino is the best spanish restaurant I have visited in Sydney. We came this restaunt on a busy Saturday night, even though it was busy the service was top notch. The waitstaff were very attentive; filling our water glass, checking if drinks were needed and explaining the menu. The somellier was very good, explaining their wine list and recommending wine according to our preferences. The service was professional without being pretentious. The staff were relaxed, friendly and personable.
We were impressed by the fact that we didn't have to wait long for our meals, even though it was busy. A well run restaurant. We chose a few options from the menu to share, which were all very delicious. Using quality ingredients with good flavour combinations.
To start we ordered the warm cow cheese, walnuts in vine leaves a la plancha. Warm melted cheese, need I say more and add walnuts for texture. We also had the yellow fin tuna cruda crushed spiced almonds and sherry dressing. A nice fresh starter to share.
Next was the Jamòn pickled beetroot and goats curd. A classic flavour combination. Our last savoury option was the melt in your mouth beef cheeks braised in vermut served with chickpea puree and gremolata. The braising liquid giving the beef cheeks a nice sweet flavour. Definitely recommended.
Having read the dessert menu I was taken by the dulce de leche tart with pedro ximinez cream. They had me a at dulce de leche, thick caramel and short crust pastry tart and omg Pedro Ximinez cream. So decadent in a good way.
An all round great dining experience and will be back to sample more of the menu. Their other restaurant Balcòn is definitely on our hit list.
Hidden in a laneway in Circular Quay is Tapavino, a charming Spanish restaurant. As I stepped in, for a moment, I felt like I was in one of the tapas bars in Barcelona or Madrid. Everything on the menu sounded delicious so it was hard for my friends and I to decide what to eat. The wine list is extensive to say the least so we asked the waitress to help us with our selection.
The food and wine at Tapavino is outstanding. The Boquerones (white anchovies) and 'PATA NEGRA' iberico de bellota acorn fed jamón are to die for. Have been here quite a few times and the service has always been 1st class.
We've ordered the cold chicken and truffle terrine, the chorizo, the cauliflower and the Madrid stew, all dishes were perfect and delicious! Flavours are balanced. The service was really great too. I really liked this place! Portions were generous and I think we did ordered a bit too much for 2 but we were happy to be able to taste many dishes.
Love this place! Sensational food, service and ambience. Have dined here several times, both as a group and couple, and each time, everything has been impeccable. Highly recommended.
Excellent service; each round was served on time and the staff had a great sense of humour. The food was above average but I would recommend it just on the ambience and the quality of the service alone.
Dear readers, I think I’m in love. In love with this gorgeous Spanish sherry – tapas – wine bar! When you put those three things together, we usually know it’s going to be something special. Tapavino is located on Bulletin Place, just a minute walk from Circular Quay station. This place has been on my go-to list for a while, but I haven’t had a good excuse to visit. Vivid Festival in Sydney became that perfect excuse.
Good spot for lunch. Melbourne wine bar like. Energetic vibe, good Spanish wine selections, plenty on the menu. Sardines were a hit this time. Will be back.
The restaurant felt really warm and intimate in it's upstairs small dining area. The wine selection was impressive, almost too many to choose from. We ended up having quite a few bottles of red wine from Spain and they were fabulous. The nibbles were tapas style in small serving, perfectly complement the wines. If you are into old world wines especially red , this place is worth checking out!
This place feels so Melbournian & one of the first laneway bar /restaurants in the Sydney CBD. Get in early or be prepared to wait. Grab a stool at the bar with a friend & chat to any of the friendly staff, learn about wine & sherry & try a few Spanish drops. Food is tapas style & you really cant go wrong with what you order. Smashed broadbean & goats cheese bruschetta is fresh. Chorizo stuffed squid is full of flavour. Lamb shoulder is meltingly tender with pops of sweetness from sweet, juicy grapes. Get in quick for the dulce de leche cake as they run out quick. Even the spiced nuts are addictive. Only downside is it can get a little noisy & as it is a small place, you & your clothing will smell of the delicious cooking that has been happening all night.
Was planning to have dinner on the harbour before seeing a show at the Opera House but found Tapavino instead. This place is quite small but full of atmosphere. Staff here know exactly what they're talking about and can recommend wines to match any plate. The food here was fresh, fast and delicious and if you're tossing up between different plates, just get them all definitely worth it.
Good food, buzzing ambience, best cheese in vine leaf with bread.
Dessert was interesting but I wasn't a fan of the chocolate tartine.
I like the tapas - it's a little more fancy than the normal tapas but still prefer Encasa my favourite Spanish reataurant.
I never knew anything about this place before I went on Friday and I was not excited about going to another tapas place but I was actually very pleasantly surprised after my friends had ordered on the groups behalf and food I had not seen at any other tapas place started coming out!
I really liked the beef briskety thing, artichoke and truffle dip, roast cauliflower which had a nice spicy sauce I mixed in with bread from another dish to mop up.
Definitely will come back. The place was bustling on Friday night too really great atmosphere!

I heard this is one of the best spanish tapas restaurants in town so we gave it a try during my stay in Sydney. You could straight away smell the strong olive scent as soon as you walk in. The staff here are really friendly and helpful. Not having tried many spanish tapas places before, we just opted for the main meats. The pork belly, eggplant dip, and salmon tartare are simply delicious. The jamon is a stand out - the proscuitto tastes so bomb and goes well with the pickled onions and cheese! However, I didn't really enjoy the chicken as the sauce just tasted like a tomato paste and the lamb shoulder didn't have enough punch to it. Overall, a great spanish tapas experience.
Excellent little place! Although sat right at the stairs a little confronting
But tapas tasted excellent. Will be coming back when I visit Sydney again
Beginning 5th March 2016 for the first time ever, Tapavino AUTUMN POP-UP will open every Saturday from 5pm for the next 3-months. Please Call or email manager@tapavino.com.au for all reservations.
To celebrate the completion of our mooting submissions, the team and I travelled to Tapa Vino in Circular Quay. Built on the culture of ‘sip-a-little-bit-of-this-and-eat-a-little-bit-of-that’, Tapa Vino’s entire menu is designed for groups and sharing which was seemed like a perfect way to begin the evening.
LOVED the truffled tart... so much so that the second time I visited with my friend, we ordered one each! Items are expensive as is the wine list but it is a great little space (expect to be seated in tiny spaces). Give the sweetbreads a miss.
Thankfully we stumbled past this place around lunchtime and sat down. Bollota Spanish Jamon was fantastic as was the Pork belly, kingfish tuna, Chicken and Dutch carrot salad.
Nice lunch for five workmates before an important meeting. Wish us luck;)

Have to say, this has to be one of the best tapas bar in Sydney! Every dish that we ordered went down well with the crew that I was with. They also have a great range of wines to accompany the feasting.

Great tapas restaurant with lots of modern twists and seasonal produce on the menu. Forget about patatas bravas and churros! Only thing odd was, despite sitting inside and upstairs we were eaten alive by sandfly type creatures.
Best chorizo I've ever had - Amazing, tender, succulent, melt in your mouth! Fast, friendly, efficient and attentive service in a very busy establishment is a pretty rare thing to find.
I have fond memories of Tapavino, my go-to place for nibbles and wine. Don’t expect a slow dinner; this place pumps out diners like a machine! V and I got there at 7pm and had to be out by 8:15pm, and the waitstaff did hand us the bill a bit earlier, but it was all worth it because the food and drink was spectacular. You could always head off to Opera Bar, like we did, on a balmy evening to continue your conversation.
Food and service were fantastic! Will definitely come back for more. Great place for all occasions! I recommend the yellow fin tuna and the lamb!
Nice atmosphere, really friendly staff, great food (although most of our dishes were served cold, as I guess thats how its meant to be eaten?) great for a date night. Near circular quay, so you can go for a romantic walk afterwards. Best to make a booking to be sure you'll get seating. Oh and veggo friendly too.
My old tapas haunt Miro closed down last year and I really needed to find a replacement and I certainly have found a gem! No nasty clay pots of traditional Aussie "Spanish" tapas with horribly bland chorizo, this place takes you to Barcelona! Serrano and Burrata is to die for or Serrano with PX reduction if you want a sweet touch. Last night they had a gambas special that was brilliant, succulent, crunchy, balanced. Outdoors is best but the crowded bar area is also appreciated on a cold night. The chocolate mousse was very interesting but should be half the size. Service was incredibly efficient considering the crowd. Great night out.
My favourite tapas place in Sydney with apparently the largest sherry selection around. There is something here for everyone and it's highly recommended for groups willing to share some amazing food.
Lovely cozy ambience. Tapas were well-portioned (2 of us ordered 3 tapas to share), had the sangria as per recommendations on other reviews. Loved the warm cauliflower, jamon with mozarella, and lamb with pine nuts. Mmm.
What a fantastic restaurant! DELICIOUS food and great atmosphere. This would have to be the best Spanish restaurant I've been to (and I've been to Spain!!)
Best tapas I've had in Sydney. Great food - definitely the best tapas I've had in Sydney. Make sure you have the ham and burrata... Sooo good!
Very popular and very very busy making it quite difficult to have a conversation... Wouldn't recommend for a first date or a business lunch!
Cauliflower was delicious, nice and soft, which is a great way to eat the vegetables. Currants were commonly used throughout the night’s dishes, but were particularly good in this dish, as it added to the normally bland flavour of cauliflower. The chorizo felt a bit out of place; there wasn’t much of it, especially when compared to the actual chorizo dish below.
Season your tummies with a delightful tapas feast at a town favourite slightly hidden on the corner of Bulletin Place and ideal for a small group or 1-to-1 dinner date given its small interior. Juice your taste buds with fruity sweet red wine sangria which was possibly the best I’ve had in Sydney before you smoke your appetite with a flavoursome jamon tostadas.

Last minute finding a place in Sydney with so much choice means grab the urbanspoon ap, search and map it and then follow your nose to this busy laneway restaurant buzzing and packed to the gills. Couldn't read the menu as it was too dark so I trusted the friendly waiter. The three tapas dishes he chose were delicious ( jamon beef ribs and tuna) the sangria refreshing but the bill was somewhat pricier than expected. The main negative was the drain smell that occasionally waffed as the grease trap needs clearing. Terrific place for the younger set but as a mature lady I think something more relaxing next time!
Tapavino is an amazing Spanish tapas place with beautiful selection of wines and some of the most amazing tapas. It’s one of my favourites. I get there nice and early to snare a table for us. A lovely waitress brings over the menus. I order a paprika popcorn to nibble while I wait.
The menu features a whole section dedicated to the heavenly food item that is jamon served in various forms, this particular dish is a mushroom truffle tart topped with delicious jamon and shaved manchego cheese. I’ve found that I prefer jamon over prosciutto for both taste and texture.

Step into this red-lit cellar for an inspired introduction to sherry. Here it’s not just an accessory to food – though their offerings leave most of Sydney’s tapas for dead – but an end in itself. Leave yourself in the hands of an aficionado – owner Frank Dilernia’s opening La Bota di Fino No 27 ($14/glass) was such a gentle introduction to sherry, I went back again with dessert.
Great food and wine. Went in a group of 6 (larger group better) last Monday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Second time and wasn't disappointed at all. One of my favorite restaurants. Huge selection of wine, with extremely helpful wait staff to give great selection advice. Some of the dishes I'd recommend are the jamón, mushroom & black truffled tart, shaved manchego, crab, avacado, & chilli tostado and the yellow fin tuna 'cruda', crushed spiced almonds, & sherry dressing. The only negative would be that this place is closed on the weekends.
Amazing Sherry. Love the sherry selection here - very knowledgable and I love the way the staff try and recommend different wines to their dishes - really excellent place - if you can get in!
Always amazing, without fail, every dish is a gem so order away and be sure whatever you choose is going to be amazing. No nasty little pots of traditional Aussie style Spanish tapas here, this is fresh, great ingredients served simply and for a very reasonable price
You must try this little city tapas hideaway, the ambience, food and service were all exceptional. The must try dish is the warm cows cheese in vine leaf, I will dream about that for a while now!! Can't wait to go back and cannot recommend highly enough.
Simon Food Favourites review. Friendly and down-to-earth service. Nice decor and plenty of extra seating upstairs. Yellow fin tuna 'cruda', crushed spiced almonds, & sherry dressing ($22) had enjoyable textures and flavour. The Crab, avocado, & chilli tostado ($14, 3 pieces) was a crowd favourite with very tasty combination of flavours on a nice crisp base. The Jamón serrano, burrata, pickled red onion ($20) was generous in size with nice flavours and a good one to share between 3-4 people. The Beef short ribs, verde sauce ($28) was tasty and very tender with rich flavours. The lemon helped to lift the palate. I'd definitely come back to try more of the dishes.
Delicious and Plentiful. Walking around the Rocks and looking for something light to dine on we found this fantastic place. Food was fantastic, flavour explosions in your mouth, simple and enjoyable.
Worth the wait for a seat and the staff are attentive and friendly.
We will definitely be back
Food was fantastic! Great service. This is one of my favorites now
Enjoyable!. Had dinner last night (tues) with a friend. The service I experienced was great from the get go, greeted with a smile and seated. Was waiting for a friend and a knowledgeable & friendly waitress helped me chose a glass of port which was beautiful. Food was amazing, between 2 people 3 dishes is more than enough as they came with bread. We were recommended a dessert which was a lovely finish. Will be back.
We ordered:
duck liver pate - deliciously rich and creamy
warm potato, rosemary & salt coca - tasty and filled us up
braised chorizo, black olives, romesco
pan de casa - very tasty, a bit oily but I liked mopping the oil with the bread. yum!
For dessert
dulce de leche tart: a milky caramel tart which was not too rich, a lovely way to finish.
Great atmosphere and attentive service. We shared a lentil salad and a great beef dish that melted in my mouth. With 500 ml Tempranillo carafe the bill was only $62 and we felt well fed (for a light meal). The place was packed but the waiters were very attentive.
Great selection of spanish wines, yummy white sangria, good food and attentive and knowledgeable staff. It's a tapas bar so although the serving sizes are generous (compared to others) don't expect to get full.
Recommended. We went to TapaVino on a Wednesday night after work with 5 of us. Definitely need to book as it was packed! The atmosphere is great, we were upstairs and it was a little bit loud. The food was all to die for. It all comes really quickly as it is ready-prepared. We ate the rabbit terrine, anchovies, chorizo, lamb, goats curd and walnut salad and a few others. Most notable was the chorizo and the caramelised walnuts in the salad. SO good. Everything comes with a side of bread which is good in a way as you can fill yourself up on that if you want to. I would go back for the Jamon as we didn't get that and it looked good. Wine list is extensive and service was pretty good too. I would recommend for a date, nice upmarket version of tapas.
We need more places like Tapavino in Sydney. It was already very busy on a Wednesday night at 6:30, but the service was still professional and quick. The sherry list is extensive and there's is a fantastic selection of wines by the glass, accommodating all wallets and palates.
Between three of us we had razor clams with crispy jamon, peas and mashed broadbeans, some fabulous Pata Negra, a tuna crudo with spiced nuts and sherry, lamb shoulder with pomegranate and yogurt and a salad of shaved cucumber, olives and seared watermelon. The highlight was a knockout dessert: a chocolate, olive oil and sea salt terrine. Everything was simply really good, and very reasonably priced, especially for a place near Circular Quay. And you can book!
I love a place you can smell the delicious aromas even before you walk through the door!
Great wine & food (the scallops were amazing!)
Staff were very Friendly & more than happy to explain dishes or help with suggestions.
Lovely atmosphere with really friendly staff in a great location just up from Circular Quay and near the CBD in Bulletin Place.
Menu was decent however I'd hoped for a bit more tapas but the starters and mains were excellent.
Wine menu was extensive, well thought out and beautifully presented. If you're in to Sherry there are many pages dedicated to the cause and the staff are great at explaining the differences.
We sat upstairs which was nicely air conditioned with traditional Spanish themed decor.
Bill was not cheap but well priced.
Great atmosphere on Wednesday night for after work drinks and dinner.
Service was excellent and the food came out promptly. Overall was great!
Perfect experience and would come back.
The foods are very authentic and yum. I love the presentation and special sangria, very strong yet tasty.
Fabulous ambience with a great tapas menu. The food here is excellent and their Spanish wine list is quite extensive. Service is great and overall a fabulous experience. I loved the various tapas courses we were served and didn’t need to order any mains at all.
Would happily come here again. Staff are super friendly and attention to service is very good.
The place looked busy so we decided to walk in and lucky enough to get a table. The food was outstanding, soooo tasty. Cant wait to go back and try more dishes.
Absolutely fantastic spanish food soo delicious, and my Spanish boss said it is authentic
Considered menu of Spanish tapas dishes, good pricing considering it’s in middle of north CBD. Good flavours, enough variety all designed perfect for sharing with friends and great to pair with their large mostly European vino list
