Review Detour Espresso Bar - Sydney

Considering the location on busy William Street, this by far one of my favourite cafes. Sit and watch the world go past, you won't regret it

I love their coffee and they got nice area as well.

Great, fast, and friendly service. Coconut milk for my cappuccino, and a delicious, filling, vegetarian sandwich. Leaving extremely satisfied!

Ordered soy latte, the boss was using my coffee to train up her staff. The service is good, but I would not rate the coffee very highly for what i got especially when i expect to taste and rate the coffee. To be fair, I can taste that beans are nice, given an experienced barista, sure she can make something different, maybe nicer.

Ordered a chicken wrap and vanilla frappe and they were amazing!!!

Both coffee and chicken wrap are fantastic

Best oat mocha I've ever had & Great Customer service, definitely recommend. Fist thing I look forward to every morning.

The best coffee I've had in Sydney, and I've had coffee at lots of places. The people there are very nice too. Totally love it. We would walk there on the way to work in the morning for our daily coffee shots. I highly recommend that you have it a go.

Went here in the morning for a cheap eat! The staff were lovely and welcoming. I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel which was delicious. The onion jam spread complemented the smoked salmon nicely. The only criticism I’d have to make would be that the ice coffee tasted slightly diluted.

We went here at around brunch time and were delightfully surprised by the tiny café with a bench for customers adjoining the kitchen which I love the idea of ( very reminiscent of Melbourne's Pellegrinis). Very cheap, very good food, service and ambience.

And while on William St, a mention also for Detour. I'll be honest, I rate Third Village and Detour the same, with the decision as to which being purely a function of which side of the road I happen to be walking on. Again, useful to know about,

During my holiday to Australia, I spent 2 days in Sydney. We had decided to try as many eating joints as we could, but we had to go back to Detour!
The best thing about this place are the staff! They remember you! And they are very friendly and helpful as well.
The food is amazing too. I tried the cream cheese bagel on one day and the butter croissant the next day. Both delicious. They also have the best banana bread! Hot banana bread with butter is the most heavenly thing you can have first thing in the morning!!
As much as I was sad leaving the beautiful city of Sydney, I was sad that I couldn't go back to Detour again!

On my recent trip to Australia, where I covered 3 cities and 2 small towns over a period of 10 days, Detour was the ONLY place where I dropped by for a meal twice. My two mornings in Sydney would have been more than incomplete had I not stumbled upon this place.

Given their unique open kitchen concept, while you sit you can watch your order being prepared, coffee being served, shakes being blended, everything.

The staff was so friendly and warm, that was one of the reasons for me to come back. A bigger reason for me was their Cappuccino. Who serves that topped with chocolate shavings? That’s right, these guys do! And what better to go with it than a massive slice of freshly baked banana bread, soaked in butter. Felt like Christmas in my mouth.

Completely fell in love with this place and I really hope to see you guys soon. Also, please consider opening a franchise in Dubai. We need you here!

I stumbled across Detour Espresso on William Street to a long line of eager customers who all seemed to be in the know of this small but busy cafe. The atmosphere was one of friendliness and buzz. This is a homey, intimate cafe where everyone feels immediately welcome and at ease, and the people who work there seem to have fun more than anything, greeting their customers with a smile and open hands. The Hot Chocolate is fabulous and the coffee good too.

Detour is definitely a place to get a drink and be happy, because the service is so friendly! They serve a glass of water to all those waiting for their coffee. That's top service. It's a small place, and cash only please. Go and get some happiness.
I don’t think I’ve had one meal at home this week… seriously of the possible 15, two have been made at home. So here are a few places I gorged at this week and thoroughly enjoyed doing so in the process! Detour This place is the bomb diggity (I’m bringing it back). It is the ONLY place the entire office gets coffee and considering the abundance of options in the area that’s impressive. What I find more impressive and very frugal friendly is they do this cute little half serve of avocado on toast (pictured above) for $3.50. It’s been my staple breakfast for a while now… and considering how expensive actual avocados are I think I’m winning. Phamish This restaurant had some hype, lemme tell you, everyone’s crying over missing out on some supposedly amazing duck and prawn pancakes… Well, in yo’ face! Because I totally had a nanna dinner and got to try them before they sold out. They are heavenly, the crunchy omelette, the duck, there really isn’t much I didn’t like about these pancakes. Al

I’m guessing Detour’s motto is quality over quantity – and it delivers. This was one very yummy coffee. The crema was strong, bitter but smooth. The froth and coffee temperature were perfect and easy to drink. It’s refreshing not to be served coffee in a massive cup.

Amazing- They remember!. I couldn't have been more surprised when I walk into detour espresso bar and after 2 years of being overseas the still remember my name and my order!!! What the? They made my day, this isn't an average coffee place, this is a local spot where you get incredible service and coffee

Unbeatable coffee. I love this place. The staff are friendly, the service fast and - most importantly - the coffee is sooooo good! I've also tried a few items from the menu and can highly recommend the bircher muesli - comes loaded with fresh fruit and is just delicious.

Noisy and slow service. The coffee is okay, but you can get better elsewhere and avoid the hordes of school children that crowd around the bus stop making just about as much noise as William Street.

Great coffee.... I've been going to this cafe for a couple of years now. Never have they missed a beat. My office is really close and I have all but lived off the food. My only concern is one time the guy behind the counter stood on my new shoes. I'm never going to go back. I do miss the coffee though oh so much. Maybe I'm over reacting???

Too long wait!. Their toast and little snacks do taste pretty good but the wait is seriously toooooooo long!!!
15-20minutes for 1 coffee or vegemite toast!?

Loved that GIANT marsh :D. My boyfriend and I came to Sydney for a holiday last week and happened to stay in Kings Cross. On our first day we walked past this coffee place and had to come in to have a look because there was a really unique atmosphere inside. There were benches for take-away customers to sit down while waiting and we were offered water while we waited! My boyfriend ordered a tea and I got myself some hot chocolate w/ marshmallow. When the tea cup was handed to my boyfriend the water spilled out coz the lid wasn't close properly. The guy was very apologetic and made us another tea again. We were quite impressed because at other places we probably would have just been offered another lid and that's it. The new tea came and the guy made sure that the lid was properly secured. My hot chocolate was ready at this point and man was I surprised by that GIANT marshmallow!!! It was the size of an egg and it was given separately because it would have taken up half of the space, so the barista said. We left the place feeling really amused and we were definitely happy with the service. Pity we didn't come back for a coffee but till next time!

Steve O, sounds like you're a wining douche bag anyway. Just don't go there.
SteveO
Not impressed. The place is always full of school kids and the wait too long, then the coffee is cold anyway.
