Stir Fried Spicy Rice Cake : 😍 Amazing
Stir Fried Bulgogi : 😁 Great
Green Tea : 😁 Great
Service : 😍 Amazing
Tucked away in an alley, Jumak serves up tasty Korean food. I loved the spicy rice cake dish. It was hot, chewy and fragrant. The Bulgogi was also delicious with its complementing flavours. Hot green tea was nice to have on a rainy day. Absolutely beautiful service from the waitress. Will definitely be back.
Best ever service by a lovely ahjumma 😁
Food was pretty good! We ordered the spicy stir-fried chicken (on one of those sizzling plates) and the pork soondobu.
● Maybe more pork in the soup? It was quite a tiny portion. The tofu was awesome though. Just the right balance.
● The sizzling plate lacked a sizzle. The chicken was still relatively hot but I guess it could've been done better.
But 🤙✔💯 for the vintage decor of this place. I can tell from afar that it's a local Korean favourite. So many drinks that you can order from and everyone got the army stews ans other forms of hot pot. Maybe we should've ordered that next time 😅

Great Korean Bar in CBD.
Felt a little crowded but it was still good, nice food, nice busy atmosphere seemed pretty much identical to typical bars in Korea.
I frequent this restaurant a lot. The service is always so good :) the ladies are super nice. The vibe of the restaurant itself is also really cozy and they also play really good music. What makes me the happiest is the fact that their kimchi soup actually is really spicy, rather than a sweet spicy. You can also never go wrong with the bibimbap, the seasoning on the vegetables and everything is perfect. I’ve tried their soy fried chicken twice now and the batter is amazing, so crunchy and the soy flavour is not overbearing. It has the right amount. Definitely a place I’d recommend if you want to have a cozy meal with friends.
Walked pass this restaurant every time I go to work so we decided to try it. The menu looks quite good with a lot of variety. We ordered the spicy pork stir fry, beef Japchae, and half a portion of spring onion fried chicken. There were only 3 side dishes and one of them with mayonnaise has a weird texture to it.
The stirfry and japchae were quite oily, but I like the flavours. The sweet potato noodles were cooked just right and both dishes were served on a hot plate. The fried chicken was crunchy but did not have too much flavour - there was an overwelming amount of spring onion but I like spring onions anyway.
Really nice kimchi stew for an affordable price. The place was clean and very welcoming. Also have a great choice in music. It wasn’t so crowded and the side dishes were very nice aswell.
Was craving for a Korean beef soup and decided to try Jumak. The beef bone soup tasted delicious, and plenty types of banchan were provided. The restaurant is a bit dark. Ideal for lunch time or dinner. There are still plenty of dishes on the menu that I want to try.
Tried their pork and kimchi stew, which was warm, fatty and comforting on a night out by myself. As no Korean dish expert, I can attest to having safely handled the spice and to have enjoyed the stew with all its heartiness. Though, some cuts of pork were a little too fatty and rather haphazardly cut for my liking. It was also served with a humble warm bowl of white rice. The side dishes offered some diversity with seaweed, bean sprouts, kimchi, slaw, pancake, glass noodles. The vegetable side dishes served as fresh, light appetisers. That being said, the slaw was dressed too richly, the pancake had a slightly doughy texture and the serving of noodles did not taste fresh, if even a bit off. The pricing is quite decent too. With $13 as in my case you could get a decent serving of stew with rice and 6 side servings. I'd say I'd come back and with friends on the next visit.
One of the best Korean restaurants I've tried. The flavours were great and the serving portions are decent to big for its price point. We were only expecting 3 side dishes based on previous reviews but were given 6 and they were all quite tasty. The waitress was really friendly and the restaurant itself gave off a warm and cozy atmosphere with its unique decorations and cushioned benches. Highly recommend this place and would definitely visit again !
Very fast and friendly service. I was their last customer of the day and they didn't try to rush me out of there. The bibimbap was excellent.
When you go somewhere twice in the same week for the exact same dish...you know you have a winner!
If it's raining, cold and your kinda on a diet; or wanting to at least give yourself the illusion of eating clean...the Beef Rib and Octopus Hotpot is a must!
A whole frozen octopus...yes it's frozen; okay maybe thawed not so well but I mean it's a big octopus and it's the whole thing...oh and two full pieces of Beef Rib or Galbi; what is not to love!
As for Korean hot pots go this one is near the top!

Monday night took a sharp left turn when we walked into Jumak. It’s a homely Korean spot tucked on a pedestrian mall running between Pitt Street and what was George Street, before it became an endless construction zone. Two minutes after walking in the door we’re sculling makgeolli with a Korean man called Jimmy Carter. He’s wearing a rusty blood-coloured two-piece and a fisherman’s hat.Two cups in, after finding out I have Scottish origins, his friend Young is singing a word-perfect rendition of Danny Boy, and Jimmy Carter is dancing. The restaurant doesn’t bat an eyelid - with their name meaning ‘tavern’ in Korean, they’ve clearly seen it all before. A little dusty ourselves, we order my current Korean obsession: fire chicken. Here it’s called Stir Fried Chilli Chicken Hot Plate ($37) but on the picture menu it...
Friendly, attentive service. Great meal sizes and excellent food. Good beer and Korean alcohol selection. Fried chicken was to die for. Will be coming back again.
Located in the small alleyway next to metro theatre in the cbd, Jumak is a cute little korean restaurant that offers great service, delicious food and good vibes. From the minute we entered the restaurant we were greeted with the service of a lovely lady, showing us to our seats and giving us menus from the get go. Upon this having had ordered, our food was delivered promptly and were made to a great standard. We had the fried dumpling ($10), spicy pork fried rice ($13) and snowy red bean ($10). Although we found the fried dumpling to be nothing outstanding and possibly a bit overpriced, the fried rice and snowy were delicious. The fried rice had great flavour and was easily devoured (we definitely recommend) as well as the snowy -especially on a hot summer day! Overall it was filling and lovely experience in which was elevated by the sweet service lady and calming atmosphere created.
This restaurant is located in an alley near townhall station and the interior is very cosy and rustic. We ordered the spicy pork belly stir fry and ddeokbokki. The spicy pork belly was very tender and pleasant to eat and the ddeokbokki was quite spicy. Overall an okay experience, would visit again to try other dishes.
Went there with two girl friends recently as one of them highly recommended this resto for good korean hotpot. It has nice ambience so great for catch ups. Food was pretty decent too. Will go back again when I feel like korean food in the city since it's quite easy to get a table.
Good for late night feeds and good for drinking.
The drinking atmosphere is alive and well here due to the loud music and chatter. There are multiple levels but because it's not a wide open space, it definitely has more of a cozy vibe than say Arisun or Kobow. I'd say food is a lot better as well.
We usually get a stew/hot pot to share as it goes down a treat with soju or the like. Army base stew is a good choice. All food is seasoned well and just the right amount of oiliness when need be, such as for the kimchi pancakes. I haven't tried it, but have had friends who got the homemade lunch box and enjoyed it as it's cheap and filling. The banchan here is good too, although not a lot of variety.
Service is bit on and off. Most of the time it's non-existant and it comes really slowly (and rudely at that), but then there are those few times when they are pretty attentive. Suppose it depends on what time you go as well. Friday, Saturday nights are pretty much packed and full on.
Good for some girly (or manly) chats and social gatherings in general. However if the group is too large, takes a while for them to organize a table as most of the time you would have to wait for two groups to leave.
When the Korean food cravings kick in, I'm glad I'm in Sydney, where I'm spoilt for choice with plenty of good Korean restaurants everywhere. And my latest Korean food adventures take me to Jumak, one of my favourite hole in the wall joints in Sydney. Located in one of the alleys off George Street, it makes up for its discreet location with bright Christmas lights and large lit-up menus of their menu.
pretty good Korean food. very reasonable price with large portion. ordered fried chicken, spicy pork trotter and stone bowl bibimbap beef. only costs 47dollars. will go back again for Korean seafood hotpot and pancake.
Been to this restaurant couple of times. Had chilli chicken with cheese this time, the taste is so good, not too chilli and melting cheese on the tender chicken, yum
I only came for dessert and we had their green tea and black sesame bingsu. I haven't had bingsu a lot of time in my life but these were so good! I loved that they put actually matcha and crushed black sesame in the dish and they also pour the condense milk right in front of you. The shaved ice was very smooth not chunky at all. It was amazing and I think I could've eaten one by myself if I hadn't already had dinner.
A few years ago I spent a week in Seoul. Eating with a side of work as I recall, given that we spent a great deal of time trawling through various restaurants - barbecue, hotpot, all you can eat, modern Korean, pan-Asian, gunbae! I came away with a taste for Korean food, which every so often drives me to seek out the nearest Korean restaurant. On this occasion, it found me venturing down a lane running between George St and Pitt St, when I chanced upon Jumak, a cute little Korean restaurant. Jumak reminds me a lot of Seoul, with its quasi traditional decor and its don't-swing-that-cat-in-here feel. As per usual I ordered my number 1 favourite Korean dish, beef bibim bap in a stone pot. The food was really good but weirdly mild for Korean. It would have to be the first time in a Korean restaurant that I have considered asking for more chilli - normally I am gasping for mercy and chucking water down my gullet like no-one's business. I really liked the feel of this restaurant, and the fact that it has two spaces - an upstairs which sounded like it was geared to noisier larger groups, and a downstairs with a few smaller tables, which was particularly suited for we sad losers, sorry solo diners, that were eating alone. If you are on your own, they even provide a stuffed buddy to keep you company. Aww how sweet.

One of the few places where the picture in the menu looks smaller than the dish that comes out. A stronger pepper taste and spices that might be a bit too strong for the average sydney food goers. The stew will feed 2 or 3 people each but their specialty is the traditional flavored rice wine. Flavours like honey or raspberry give a sweet flavor to a normally bland alcoholic drink. For $12 comes in a old school tea pot that is a throwback to how things were. In cold nights, coming for food and chilling while talking and sipping rice wine with a group of friends is great as the atmosphere is not too crowded. Plus compared to other Korean restaurants the bill for a night out of food and drinks is suprisingly thrifty.
Add me or comment if you love or disagree with my tales as I hope to guide you on Sydney's culinary offerings
Although slightly disappointing in that only three banchan are given free of charge and the rest need to be ordered and paid for, Jumak does Korean food well enough to overlook that. The portions are reasonable, if not unreasonably large, and the value is superb! Jumak also serves bingsoo, which was surprising and a shame, as the mains were so filling. (Perhaps it was just as well there weren't any other banchan.) Jumak also has makkeoli, including small cans of iCing makkeoli (in grapefruit flavour). The only complaint with regard to food that we might have is that the food lacked kick; as in the case of our bibimbap, the dolsot sizzled the rice and other ingredients for a bit but quickly petered out.
Service was solid, with the lady at the counter running the entire show and efficient service from the kitchen staff, delivering this through a small freight elevator.
The ambience was pleasant and a good find on a cold winter's night. However, it can get a little busy outside of the shop, with a fire station nearby, and inside the shop. We would recommend sitting inside the shop or upstairs, as it's getting so cold nowadays!
All in all, we liked Jumak to potentially revisit it. There wasn't too much to dislike but there could be slightly more to like about the restaurant too.
The go-to place for Korean food. I've been on the hunt for a seriously good Korean restaurant that's affordable and found it! Food was absolutely delicious and not overpriced like some other restaurants. My friend and I loved the interior design and the warm atmosphere. Definitely becoming a regular at this one.
Better than expected!. Decided to try out this new korean restaurant i've been eyeing for a while now and wasn't as bad as the reviews here. Was really busy on a thursday afternoon so the waiting time did get a bit lengthy but i guess thats the same with any other restaurant. The food was actually really good and the price was reasonable as well. Although i do agree that it would be hard to communicate with the waiters as they don't speak english very well, which shouldn't be an excuse for poor service. Definitely would come back again for another meal!
Good and spacious kbbq place (great for big groups). Ordering is convenient after they added the qr code scanning for the menu so you can order through your phone and pay later. Meat are really good and service is great (they change the grills frequently and quickly). Wish they had some dessert though
Hidden & tucked-away in Pitt Street, Sydney, is this rustic Korean BBQ Restaurant. Food was plentiful & generous, ordering through your mobile phone was easy & service was great. The side dishes complimented the Beef Bibimbap & the Kimchi Pancake that we ordered. Drinking Soju was a first for me, shared with my niece & sister. I would have given a 5* if there were a few more beef slices. Still, I will be going back to try the other dishes.
First visit here. Thursday night 8pm ish. Busy, but good timing and got last free table. Friendly and efficient staff. Good meats and marinades. Canned beers available. Will definitely go again. Walk down the lane opposite the Wilson Car Park entrance at the lower end of Pitt St.
I love Korean BBQ, even though this is only the second time I've ever had it. Nice place inside, plenty of room on the tables around the BBQ for your sides which come for free. The premium meat pack was great, so much tasty meat to tuck into. Soju on offer, fast becoming a favourite of mine. Hey, who doesn't like 12% 'Soft Drinks'.
Absolutely delicious, got the mixed plate and it was worth every cent. The meat quality is great and the marinated portions are sauced amazingly. Definitely a place to consider if you want to treat yourself to a good dinner
Myung Jang is one of the finest Korean restaurants in Sydney city. I really like their ‘Seafood soft tofu soup’. It’s my all-time favourite soup and they make it really well. They put a generous amount of ingredients in the clay pot and they also give a wide range of healthy side dishes as well. The quality is good here so it’s worth a visit. I give this place 4 bears.
Behind the main street lies this hidden gem of a restaurant with great ambience. The grill had extraction ducts built into the circumference so there is no smoky room. Ordering done through your phone. Food was tender and delicious and grills changed regularly. Sharp scissors and tongs provided to cut the meat into share portions. They also take bookings to avoid the wait. Main criticism is the sides were not replenished and prices a tad steep for quantity provided but to be expected in the current high inflation environment.
