Wonderfully cheap prices for the fresh and filling food! I come here quite often because I personally can't fault this place. The boat noodle soup is a perfect size for me, curry and stir fried are good too.
Heard so much good about their boat noodle and I finally visited this place. The boat noodle really lives up to the hype with their flavourful broth and chewy noodles. They were pretty generous on the meat and veggie too considered it’s only $4. Definitely going back for a quick noodle fix.

If you’re in the Haymarket area of Sydney, the one absolute certainty is that you mwo’t struggle to find a decent Thai meal. What this means though is that the competition is fierce and standards are high as a result. Those that survive are invariably pretty good. ChonSiam is a pokey place - miniscule in fact compared to others nearby. It’s not a flashy place either. The menu isn’t lengthy and it’s clear the focus is on the food.
In this place, food served very quickly and tasty too. I consider this as cheap eat for Thai as the dishes are start from $4 and quite good serving. Every time we go to this restaurant, I always like to order beef boat noodle soup. Highly recommended. The soup is really good for winter season especially and full of flavour.
I love this place, simply for its boat noodle soup. It not complicated and it tastes so good; and all for a miserly $4. Yes! I do prefer their simpler dishes and their curries (they are on the spicier side) rather than their stir fries; but I still chalk this as a favourite for the boat noodles alone... and did I mention it's open until late (normally at the perfect time I should be on the train home after a few to many quiet ones...)
Good Thai food, decent and affordable.
I mean I’ve try better one and also worse one.
They close at 1 am, last ordered 12.45am.
Did order fried fish fillet with garlic and pepper, $8.5.
With this price, you can’t complaint much!
And also a bowl of pork tribe soup.
The soup is very comforting, I did asked for fried garlic for extra flavour.
Over all, i did enjoy my dish.
This place offers the best $4 meal everrr! It’s a simple bowl of rice noodles, fish balls, and fatty meat but yuuuuuum y’all deserve a higher rating

it's really hard these days to find a CHEAP lunch/dinner around Sydney city..... but nooooo.... not for Chonsiam Thai Restaurant near Sydney Chinatown..... this famous BOAT NOODLE SOUP (you can choose either Pork/Beef meat) is only $4!!! wooooot?! yep... $4 and it's gooooood! it's filling with the meat, the meatballs, the noodles, and the tasty soup.... hehehe....
This place is a legend. $4 thai boat noodle soup and $6 guey chap (the teochew style pork soup with blood curd, intestine and so on) which they both are my favourite. Can't believe that I can find a place in Australia that sell this dish that I used to have when I was a kid. While these two noodle soup looks similar but they certainly taste different. I do find the thai style guey chap is abit more on the sweet side than the savoury. Nonetheless, I still like it. Good for a cold windy night as supper.
Thai boat ninja!!!
Authentic Thai flavours that may burn you the next day, bold Thai herbs and spices with cheap eats this place is great for people who love spicy food.
They have awesome lunch and dinner specials that wont burn your wallet but just your mouth. In saying that you can adjust the spice level and still enjoy your food.
Great place to hang out late at night since it opens late.
Been going here for awhile and it never disappoint!!
Until next time ... Keep eating !!!
Looking for cheapest quality lunch in Sydney CBD? I have to tell you about Chonsiam's $4 Boat Noodle Soup! It is delicious, hearty and served with 3 fish balls, tender pork pieces, noodles and veggies. The soup broth tastes good and the serving size is not too big that you will get a food-coma afterwards. My experience was a positive one and it makes a great lunch/snack meal at anytime!
This place serves up great food, very fast, at a cheap price. My go to order is the Boat Noodle with Chicken, The Pancake with Mussels and a rice or noodle dish for 2 people. However, i think it's a miss or hit because I've had a lot of friends who have had upset tummies from here. The rest love it. So maybe if your tummy is not that up to par, you might need to avoid this spot.
Sydney has such freaking good Thai food. An unmentioned friend of a friend won’t eat the Thai food here in Sydney because it’s not as good as in Thailand, but the thing is: a lot of people think the Thai food is better here. Thai chefs have more space to experiment, freed from tradition, and have higher quality ingredients.
I’ve loved the look of this hole-in-the-wall, and stopped by after a late morning meeting in central Sydney. Since Masterchef had just had an episode where someone made this dish to emulate Thai street food, I couldn’t really go past ordering the pork omelette. I’m not sure how you can go wrong with this dish, and it was delicious.
I was too shy to order the $5 boat noodles, since part of me was thinking: how can they keep a restaurant afloat if people are only paying $5! But I’ll try it next time. Seems like a specialty of the house.

Chon Siam is a tiny drop-in kinda place, a little funky, and always full of Thai people, always a good sign. We first called this blog 'Travelling At Home' when it lived on our travel book site, excuse the plug. On a beautiful sunny day like today there's
This is another place where Mister and I will definitely be coming back on a cheap eats night. I reckon we were fortunate that there isn’t a queue on a Sunday night. Most of the punters seem to be Thai and that is always a good sign.
BEST Stir fried chilli basil I ever had in Australia. Everytime I go to Sydney i have to visit this place and order stir fried chilli basil with fried egg. Very Yummy!! I can't wait to go back there again!! Sadly, i cant find a great stir fried chilli with basil like this in Melbourne :(
Portions are on the smaller side but reasonable given the price. Boat noodles were a bit too sweet for my taste.
A little bowl of goodness!!! I love the boat noodle soup especially the size and for the price. Only thing was, the soup was a little sweet but add a spoon of chilli vinegar, it's yummy 😋
Cheap and authentic Thai food in the city. Tried Pad Thai with roast pork and Pad prik king fish with rice. The roast pork skin was a bit chewy otherwise was OK. The fish was crispy when served. The sauce was very flavourful and went well with rice. Overall experience was great. A must visit whenever we go city.
Very delicious food. Small shop but friendly staff. Price valuable
Great and cheap traditional Thai noodles. A must stop every time in Thai Town.
Great value for money and generally quick service. My go-to place for a quick lunch in Thai town.
yummy food, we ordered the boat noodle soup and kana moo grob !! so yummy and amazing price
