Review Madam Chai's - Sydney

Came here on a Friday night, it’s a chill little spot. The staff are more than accommodating, it’s super affordable and there’s a lot to like about this place. We didn’t wait long and the drinks were fantastic (would come back for the lemon-lime juice alone). The food was okay, I had a vegetable laksa which wasn’t the best one I’ve had but I appreciated the enormous size of the bowl and the quantity of fresh veggies in the dish. I think it would’ve been vastly improved if vinegar and soy were available.

Authentic taste of malaysian restaurant. Great place to eat with small number of friends since the dining area is not so big. Nicely decorated with hanging pots and greens everywhere.

First time to have lunch here and enjoyed the food. I love roti and theirs was crispy yet fluffy and nice dipped in curry sauce. The satay chicken skewers were tasty with the satay sauce.

Ordered the hainan chicken rice and it was amazing!! The chicken flavour extended onto the rice. The only let down was the wagyu beef satay - was tough to eat. Overall, happy with the meal

Super friendly staff, very quick service (I went Wednesday lunch). The Mi Goreng was very tasty, the roti and teh tarik are pretty standard (not saying they're bad). The staff thanked and said goodbye to every person as they left.

VERY MISLEADING - Do not waste your time and money here. Regents Place website boasts about Madam Chai as having Authentic Malaysian flavours. I beg to differ. We ordered a simple fried rice (Nasi Goreng), and stir fried noodles (Char Kway Teow) and found that it is so bland. There was no flavour or impact at all! It was extremely disappointing. There are other Malaysian restaurants around Sydney CBD that is more flavoursome. I wouldn't recommend this place if someone was craving for Malaysian food.

Great tasting Malaysian food. I had the chicken Laksa, beef laksa, and roti with curry. All very delicious. Reasonably priced and very quick service. Hot teh Tarik was very nice too on a rainy day!

Cheap quality and taste. Left the place after the first few bites. The pictures on the menu are deceiving and taste is really below average. Will never come back again. Please don't order below dish ever : Nyonya Deep fried chicken. Look at the picture on the menu vs the real dish. It had a bad smell too. Waste of money.

Oh my god! Finally the one dessert I can actually eat!!!! And thank you to this restaurant, it was so refreshing! And definitely gave a kick to sweet tooth cravings! And I got to love their noodles soup! And it was so saucy and delicious, which I could slurp on for days!

My Malaysian friend brought us here for a quick meal. The food was very tasty. Service a bit ordinary but ok. Price was reasonable. Can be a bit crowded during meal times

I love this place!!! We got the chicken and rice for $14 and the char kway teow for $15. Really well priced and the food was great, large servings and quick. Seating was a bit squishy. Have visited many times.

The satay meat was tough and cold, it had no spice tasted like peanut butter with something in it. The chicken curry also came out cold. The meat was mostly fat and gristle. Don’t bother with this place.

Rating 3.5

We tried the mi goreng as takeaway and it was yummy. A bit oily but full of flavour and veggies/seafood. Prices are average and reasonable for the serving that you get.

A delicious feast at madam chai in regents place featuring our favourites!
✔️Roast duck with dry egg noodle
✔️Squid with salted egg yolk
✔️ Bat-Kut-Teh
✔️ Wagyu satay skewers
There’s plenty of seating inside the restaurant and the food is served very quick!

I would not recommend coming here. They accused me of using counterfeit money five minutes after I paid, trying to give me a $50 note that they insisted I gave them, and said it was longer than the normal note. I got my money from an ATM. I said how do I know that is the note that I handed over (mind you I was going to pay with card until I saw the card surcharge). They said they would pull the CCTV footage but I fail to see what this would prove. I pointed out that they should have said something when I paid instead of waiting a period of time to come back with this supposed “long” $50 note. I told them to call the police as I had done nothing wrong.

They then did not bring my friend’s food, in what felt like retaliation and punishment. We watched other diners receiving their food before her who ordered after us. She didn’t get her food until I asked where it was.

The food is average, I’d recommend walking further down the road to Chinatown proper to get better tasting food. It’s certainly not good enough to warrant being accused of having counterfeit $50s.

If I was counterfeiting money I’d be eating at much better places.

We’d give this a 3.5 if there were half points.

Regent Place’s Malaysian Eatery, Madam Chai has recently opened and it is a casual space
specialising in reasonably priced hawker style food made with authentic Malaysian flavours.

Pop in for a quick lunch or dinner. They have a signature laksa, soft shell crab, hainanese chicken rice and more. We had to try the signature laksa, which was a nice creamy laksa full of seafood and had plenty of flavour and a good amount of spice! We also shared the Roast duck dry egg noodle and this was our favourite. The roast duck was nicely cooked and simply delicious. You can’t visit a Malaysian eatery without a hawker classic / the roti canai, another great choice to dip in the curry sauce.

Drinks wise we had a Cham (tea and coffee mix) as well as a pink lady orange juice, (raspberry cordial and lemonade).

If you’re in Regent Place or the city for dinner, pop in for a tasty cheap eat. It is comfort food at its finest and portions are generous.

Food looks yummy, but the broth has no flavour other than being spicy (hot)... It tastes quite watered down and lacking in depth or flavour. Squid and prawns have absolutely no flavour either. I didn't bother eating the muscles for that reason. Just tastes like eating plastic.

This place used to be another Malaysian restaurant, sedap.
Anyway, today I had a Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang.
Mind you guys, Rendang is closed to authentic Malaysian style, not Indonesian style that intend to have a dry kind a Rendang paste.
Dish were good, but not outstanding, comes with ½ hard boiled egg, crispy anchovies and peanut with sambal

Located in prime heart of CBD. Place is newly opened and staff is quite friendly. Ordered Vegetable Laksa and quantity is good worth every penny. Flavors were good and as soon as you have you can feel them in your palate only thing is if you order less than $20 bucks then you need to withdraw cash by nearby ATM.

Madam Chai’s takes over from the loved-up Sedap Malaysian restaurant in Regent Place. Husband and I peeked into the back of Regent Place, which was absolutely packed, after seeing Crazy Rich Asians at the George Street Cinemas. Madam Chai’s was completely empty, so we sat down, me without noticing that the restaurant had changed and was very new. In fact, it was so new that there is hardly any decoration up, and it looks rather bare. Hopefully, they’re fixing that. It’s also so new that it took me a whole week to find the listing and name of the place on Zomato!

I cannot resist not trying some Malaysian food when I walked past Madam Chai’s. I have tried a few Malaysian restaurant before and this will be a new visit here. A Char Koay Teow (CKT) is a must order for me from a Malaysian restaurant and this is how I know whether they are up to standard, or ahem my standard (especially coming all the way from Penang). Their CKT is pretty good, had some char to it, with prawns, lap cheung and even some crispy lard. Grace enjoyed the Hainanese chicken rice and I even managed to sneak in some chicken pieces into her rice. Yay!
