I love hanging out at this place on karaoke night, it's like being on the Wish version of Glee (which is already pretty sketchy if I'm honest).
The crowd is supportive and the presenter has a wonderful voice of her own. I recommend everyone give singing a go here! The vibe is casual so no need to feel shy or awkward. Get in quick because the sign up sheet fills up fast!
Also decent chips.

What a wonderful atmosphere and experience. Friday night karaoke with a supportive crowd. We felt like we heard the voice of an unexpected angel singing an Italian opera song! Moved us to tears. We will be back if he is a regular at karaoke night! By any chance do you know the name of the song he sang? Please let us know

MISSY THE CAT RETURNS!
An excellent place to stop over for a drink while waiting for your Chinatown connection. Strongly recommended for occasions when you're in Haymarket and looking to drink and dash.** Friendly staff, decent beer offering, good location, superior people watching, close to the tram. The main shortcoming (at least IMHO) is that it's not the kind of place (nor is it set up) for a comfy afternoon over several pints. If that's not your concern, bump it up a star or two and get amongst it.
** EDIT: Sorry, blast it, I meant having a quick shandy, not skipping out on the bill.
Missy The Cat Star Ratings:
5 - a place of rare genius that merits repeated return visits
4 - a strong effort with no major shortcomings
3 - a solid, worthy effort with perhaps one important thing to fix
2 - several important things wrong, but at least one important thing right
1 - can't be given a zero, doesn't deserve a dollar (as of review date)

Service has gone down hill very fast since last visit last Aug. Same sad looking staff who can't understand basic English. Very disappointing as it was an excellent venue for great Carlton jug prices

Great spot to sit and watch the Chinatown world go by. Cold beer, friendly service and tasty bar snacks.

I love this place the staff are mostly amazing, I've been a regular for many years but enough is enough... the female manager (day shift) is the rudest most angriest person I have ever come across.... I got used to her ignoring my friendly "hello" and giving me grumpy attitude.... but to be honest I'm now getting the same feedback from my friends that I brought to this pub.... Rude to me I can handle... rude to my guests NO NO NO
Go there when she is not working then I give it 5 stars

Friendly staff. A great congenital crowd and the karaoke is great, especially the host.

Old pubs in Sydney's Chinatown district frequented by locals and tourists a like. It's definitely a great place to people watch and if you're feeling brave to test out your vocal chords with Saturday night Karaoke. Grab a drink here but there's way too many good restaurants nearby to even thinking about eating here

Rotten egg smell - gas leak or something but the staff don't want to do anything. Nicer outside on Dixon St but you still have to deal with the staff.

Whether or not this was a conscious marketing decision, putting a bit of London’s Covent Garden smack dab in the middle of Sydney’s Chinatown, at the bottom of Dixon Street, seems a good move, and the fellow behind me in the line at the bar seemed really quite pleased to be in a pub called Covent Garden.

My 10 dollars were lost because of one of the bartenders' poor transaction. Looking at other people's comment, this place doesnt seem to know how to minimize money transaction troubles, and it keeps happening.

Typical Sydney CBD pub i.e. not very good.

Pokies, TAB, sports bar, you know the drill. The interior looks like it was last updated in 1985, the clientele is somewhat dubious and the staff are not exactly overly friendly. It does have a reasonably sized outdoor area to people-watch the hubub of Chinatown pass by.

The selection of beers is fairly standard - the usual mass-produced Aussie favourites although I did also spot Kirin and James Squire's 150 Lashes for a little variety. To be fair they are only catering to their market - I don't imagine there are many requests for Brewdog Punk IPA here.

It's a pity as there is definitely a need for a decent pub in this area, if only to provide a refuge for men whilst their wives shop in Market City.

Dismal, Dirty and Depressing!. I had the misfortune to go here for a few drinks last week and was immediately struck by the miserable atmosphere. The staff on duty at the time (a young guy and a wheezing bespectacled manager who looked like death warmed up!) were rude and impersonal, and I got the distinct impression that smiling and small-talk would most likely be punishable by death! The chubby neanderthal providing 'security' at the venue was unwelcoming, overtly aggressive and had literally no redeeming features whatsoever. Listening to the sad (very drunk) individuals strenuously trying to imitate their idols through their karaoke tributes was pitiful.

What a bleak bar for the entrance to Sydney's beautiful Chinatown!

No warmth. As a 20 year veteran of the Covent Garden Hotel, I believe that it has now become just another cold, unwelcoming modern pub.........the same as all the rest....whereas it used to have character, warmth and a casualness which made everyone feel at home. It's small and cramped and it feels as though the stage has been shoved into a corner at the last minute. It shows that progress is not automatically improvemant.

Good People Watching. Never eaten there (didn't know you could), but situated at the bottom end of Dixon St., opposite Paddy's Markets, it's a great place to sit outside, have a coldie & watch the passing parade - especially all the various buskers & hawkers on the weekends.
