Review Hannibal @ Surry Hills - Sydney

I have been going here for the last six months and have not once been able to fault it. The food is superb and I actively suggest this place to my friends. The manager is friendly and welcoming, and although the staff sometimes take a little while to flag down or seem not overly rushed, the eventual quality of the meal outshines any short delays. I would definitely recommend visiting in a sizeable group so you can have a little taste of everything. The food does feel a little pricey when there are just the two of us (getting hummus, a salad, and the chicken/lamb) but when split among a group of 4+ this place becomes the best cheap eat around.

I had dinner at Almustafas recently with a friend (the last time I dined here was about 4-5 years ago) and the food was just as amazing as I remember... possibly even better. We had the banquet and every single dish had it's own unique and amazing flavour (the poached chicken dish with the almonds was to die for!) We had such a great night. I love those 'old favourite' restaurants that manage to maintain their consistency over the years. Highly recommended.

Not sure where the recent negative reviews came from. Have been here a few times now, and the good has always been very, very good, and the service friendly and helpful. On one visit, they brought out the meat platter before the entrees. They apologised and did not charge us for it, plus they brought a fresh platter out later. One of the good Lebanese places in Surry Hills.

We usually go to another Lebanese restaurant in this area however we decided to try this one out for something different. We had the $35 per head banquet which didn't disappoint. Plenty of tasty food and great service too. It's BYO and there is a bottle shop across the road. We'll definitely go there again.

Staff were friendly and let our group move into the function room as no one was using it that night. Food was good - I had the mixed grills platter which was delicious, however my friend who got the shawarma platter didn't enjoy it as much as the meat was a bit dry.

Came here for a work party. Lovely welcoming staff and exotic atmosphere with the draped rooms and Middle Eastern decor. Belly dancers are hired every Friday and Saturday night, so if you want a cultural experience, this place is it. Their service and hospitality was great. I had the Hannibal Banquet and the food was delicious. The baklava and turkish delight were divine and I am completely sold over the cinnamon tea, I've never tasted anything like it. Thanks Hannibal!

Pretty good Lebanese food. Selection of your favourites, grilled platters and various banquet selections for two. Dimly lit and cosy atmosphere. Staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable. We went mid week for dinner and it wasn't overly busy.

Sadly, as we were looking to have a great meal as a group, we had to leave when a mouse skipped across the foot of one of our party! Then we really noticed (in the dim light) all the mouse droppings on the floor! We brought this to the attention of the waiter (who was not rushed off his feet as there was hardly anyone there) and he offered us another table. It was too late by then and we left. We understand that it is terribly hard to keep these old buildings clean but REALLY not even cleaning the floor at all? What else was not clean in the kitchen? Next stop - Sydney City Council inspectors will be asked to check this place out.

Hannibal Lebanese in Surry Hills at the cross section of Elizabeth and Cleveland St. This place serves up quality Lebanese food at a reasonable price and big portions. This place is somewhat an institution in the area. They also have some great value banquet options and meal deals we smashed a vegetarian plate and a mixed grill and certainly didn't leave hungry. A great spot to get a good value Lebanese feed.

Hannibal Lebanese Restaurant is fast becoming my favorite Lebanese joint in Surry Hills. Good food at good prices - this place serves delicious Potato and Corriander (squarely cut like dices marinated in spices), Fried Cauliflower, Garlic Bread with Zatar amongst many others.

Had heard about this restaurant because of the amazing food. We booked a private dining room as we had a group of us. The room we had was decorated completely from floor to ceiling, big arabian material tented the roof, decorative flags, big cushions to sit on the floor and dine Lebanese style. Fantastic atmosphere and great food, so authentic. Private dining rooms are the way to go. Food was non stop we had the mezze plates and everything was delicious. During the night, loud music started playing and we had our own private belly dancer perform for us for about 15 minutes, lots of fun. Will return again!

Perfect amount of food and royal treatment even visiting on A Groupon gift voucher. Good atmosphere and authentic feeling decor and music. Each dish was full of flavour and nothing was too spicy.<br/>Will definitely return for more.

We ordered the mixed entree which was only 3 falafels 2 dips, tabouli and bread for $20. The bread was old, almost going mouldy. We also ordered a spinach pie which also tasted old like it had been in the fridge for a week and heated up. It was supposed to come with cheese but there was no cheese in it. Sorry guys no one wants to eat food that isn't fresh.

Hannibal offers Lebanese in Surry Hills, an area that surprisingly has multiple options in Middle Eastern fare. However, contrary to expectations, Hannibal is expensive and inefficient service. The food does not taste or seem fresh too.<br/><br/>At best, the ambience is pleasant for a relaxed, cultural meal but that is inadequate redemption for the food and the service.<br/><br/>We would be reluctant to recommend Hannibal to our friends.

Five stars for the name, but everything else was a horror.<br/><br/>Delivery took 2.5 hours.<br/><br/>The chicken was under-cooked to the point it almost tasted rubbery.<br/><br/>Could not manage to eat the batata (hot chips), tasted as though they had been cooked in old/cheap oil.<br/><br/>Save your self the frustration of being left hungry and with a bad taste in your mouth by avoiding this place.

Very below average Lebanese food. Even the desserts where dry and stale. Only 2 waiters on for a whole restaurant full of groups, you could see they where doing their best but completely overwhelmed. On the up side their cushion rooms have a nice ambience but food is most important so I won't be going back.

Average food. Slow service.. Food was average, there's better plsces. It also came out at random times and took way too long. Some of our group's food was cold by the time everyone received their food, there was a good 20 mins wait between each plate. Not worth it really.

Excellent Food, service and ambience.. Went there with a Groupon Voucher. Entrée was very nice and appetizing especially the baba ganouch and tabouli were great, hummus was average. The grilled chicken, lamb and kafta were grilled / BBQ to perfection. The baklava was the best I tasted in a long time. To finish off the cinnamon tea was great, Turkish coffee was average. Portion size was filling.<br/>The place although small was not packed and we could hold a conversation easily. The ambience was also authentic Lebanese including furniture and wall décor.<br/>The service was also top notch with a smile. Overall would definitely recommend it and would come back.
Wok You Talking About

Mesmerising Belly Dancer and Yummy Food. We celebrated my best friend's Birthday and we had a ball. Great food, nice atmosphere but indeed what was really worth it was the belly dancer. A gorgeous, feminine and funny woman that took all of us to try some moves. I want to come back for sure.

Best babaganoush. Smokey, creamy- the best.<br/>Amazing atmosphere. Cushions on the floor, beautifully decorated and belly dancers on Friday and Saturday nights!

Delicious vegetarian banquet. It was a Friday night and we stayed late but there was no belly dancer in the cushion room, maybe you have to book one? Staff are friendly but sometimes there was a language barrier / lack of communication. We ordered but were then told we could only order a banquet because we were in the cushion room / in a group. As the group was vegetarian this left only one option. The food was delicious and there was too much for us (even with the cheapest $30 option). Cushion room gets toasty quickly if there are a couple of groups and people are smoking.

Hannibal is a beautifully decorated, cozy restaurant with very friendly service! The family recipes are divine and offer a wide range of striking flavours from the Middle East- this restaurant keeps me coming back to try everything on the menu! Hannibal's spectacular cushion rooms are perfect for group dinners and parties, offering a vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere. For a great night out with friends or family I would definitely recommend hannibal!

Second time at Hannibal's.... ... and we had a fantastic time once again: cushion room, belly dancer, very attentive and happy staff providing efficient and friendly service, tasty food AND plenty of it, too! Our overseas guests thoroughly enjoyed this experience. We will be back for sure.

The food here is average, have had better elsewhere. They are very disorganised, we ended up getting different dishes. Will not be going back

The food is alright for the street. But dont come here expecting any customer service or any sort of order, we ordered banquet for 14 (5 vegetarians) and we only ever received half the vegetarian mains but double quantity of the meats? We were also told off for requesting the right foods. I wont be back.
Clare
All round disappointment. I've encouraged everyone I know not to go back after my last experience.<br/><br/>Booked and payed depoisit for a 36 person function in their largest room. Instead, we were given the smallest function room and told to "deal with it" when we couldn't sit everyone in a chair. We still considered staying until they added insult to injury. Not only could we not order our favourites from the menu, as we had specifically requested, but the options were limited to the most expensive of banquets. <br/><br/>I have never had worse customer service in my life. If they had just been a little more polite, I might have tried to salvage what was left of our potentially great party, but instead they were rude and inhospitable. We happily left and I lost my deposit money.

The service was friendly. We went with the deluxe mazza which is a banquet. There was plenty of food, too much for us to finish. The three dips (yoghurt, humous, baba ganosh) were quite good. The lady fingers could have been a bit crisp on the outside, n they were a bit too sour for my liking. The fried cauliflower and eggplant were ok, those the cauliflower had been refried but the texture (little bit chewy). Then we got the green beans and rice, nothing spectacular. They had these potato nuggets things that were nice, kind of like croquettes. But then the food stopped. What about the kennel, Lebanese sausages and chicken. We realised that the waiter had mistaken our order for the vegetarian banquet but we were to full to raise our voices. All up for 2 was $67. The decor of the place is unique, with one room that is covered with rugs on the walls and you sit on cushions. A nice novelty, and really quite relaxing. Would recommend people to give it a go, but I won't be going back regularly, maybe just once in a while with a group of friend to make the most of the cushion room and the byo.

Miss Kay. Was very unhappy, Food was nothing special, over priced & luke warm, I guess thats what happens, when you reheat food in a sandwich press.<br/>have had better lebanese food really anywhere else.
