Review Spice World Sydney - Sydney

The Hyf
Great hot pot restaurant. Decent variety of choices. The mashed prawn and code roe is awesome, the wagyu beef is beautifully tender, and I loved the egg dumplings (filling encased in an egg pocket). There are options for individual hot pots or a large one to share which is great for diners who like different spiciness, and of course dual split broth choices to have two different flavours separated in one pot. Robot food delivery is fun and very pleasant and attentive customer service by the 'human' staff as well. Lots of sauces and flavours to compliment your meal also.

Came here to celebrate my daughters birthday and I cannot recommend this place enough. The ambience, the robot trolleys and the novelty was great. The service was exceptional, the staff was so helpful, courteous, polite and always had a smile. The food was fresh and very good. Definitely worth the visit and hot pot experience.

If you are looking for a good hotpot restaurant then this is definitely a go to go place. Love their cute barbie m. Nice and welcoming staff. Lots of side dishes and love their selection of spices. Would love to come back again.

The nicest dining experience I've ever had, courtesy of manager Jane. She was aware of my stringent dietary requirements and took the effort to ensure that her staff was aware of them as well. I love this restaurant since it easily has the finest hot pot I've ever had, as well as high-quality food, service, and overall experience. MANY THANKS TO YOU JANE AND YOUR TEAM! Additionally, I cannot forget the dessert that was given to me on my special day and birthday! Thank you Spicy world!

Really nice atmosphere and delicious hotpot location. Personally this is above average but I would say the hot pot soup base flavours are not the best. It was very pricey but an enjoyable experience. I have gotten the low and moderate spice levels here but they are both extremely spicy compared to other hotpot locations.

Great spot for hotpot! Obviously came for the cool robot serving up the dishes. Easy to reserve a table, menu is online and has English options, and you order through the app. Super quick service, everything was presented very well and all VERY tasty and fresh! Place was super clean as well, would recommend for group dinners!

A bit on the pricey side but always a delicious and memorable experience. Food is good quality and doesn't just rely on things like the wagyu barbie and the soup bear. Love the sauce bar, it's very exciting having so many different options and trying their suggestions. The staff are overall attentive. The mild spicy is quite spicy compared to other places' mild spice and it builds over time, so if in doubt avoid. The sweet potato noodle, mushrooms and lamb are my favourites.

My fav hotpot place in CBD. We had a private room upstairs and the service was brilliant. Everyone used their own pot to eat, which made me feel safe and sound. I tried a mixed soup base with tomato and their signature chicken soup. Remember to drink it before putting everything in.
Alekso Pala
Very nice food atmosphere and friendly service, but we were charged for sauce for two people when only one person got sauce?

Had a private dining room and the service was exceptional! The vibe of the restaurant was cool as well. The soup and food were all great. Definitely would come back

Convert People to Enjoying Hotpot Here!!

The tables are massive so feel free to order like crazy! You also have the option to go with an individual pot or a shared pot. Their Sichaun and tomato based soup is nice but there's more to try 😄⁣⁣

They also have all the cool stuff 😏. Robots that serve after-mints, a mist machine and the ability to order milk tea from The Moment.

Finally reopened, there's one and half hour dine in limit. The food came really quick so the dine in time was enough. They provided hand sanitizers on table for you before starting the meal. Surprised the quality of the food was still as good as before. For sure will be coming back often

味道超级好😍吃了停不下来~

So impressed from my visit to Spice World! I can't really handle too much chilli so I had the tomato broth instead and absolutely adored it! The broth is so incredibly flavourful and set the tone for everything to taste amazing. The wagyu barbie and the 1m lamb slices might seem like novelty dishes, but I was awed by how good the meat was. So high quality, I honestly could not get enough! Also really enjoyed the mashed shrimp with fish roe and the beautiful swan cakes. This was such a fantastic meal, and I would definitely return to have hot pot here again!

It is my first time to this amazing hot pot restaurant. The staffs are really helpful with everything. The ingredients are fresh and the atmosphere is great. The ‘robot server’ is so amazing and everything is exceed my expectation. Like this place and will come often. :)

Great hotpot, excellent quality of foods and services. One of my favorite go-to hotpot in Syd Chinatown. Love the swan dessert and wagu beef

Spice world is probably the most high tech hotpot restaurant I have been to in Sydney! They serve customers by using robots! Just how cool is that???? How they style and plate up their food is amazing! Example; Wagyu beef on the barbie doll! And also not to mention - their soup base is definitely perfect!!!!! Good comfort food and also perfect for cold rainy days!
Albert Harry Koster
Lovely eating experience, especially considering I've never had hot pot on my own before, so it was nice that the waiter gave me some guidance!
Smith Jason
The waiter has a bad attitude

Been here plenty of times already, and spice world never fails to disappoint. Have been here for small dinners and birthday celebrations, highly recommend this place to all locals and tourists alike. Service is great and food is decently priced and of high quality

🔥 spice it up with hotpot
🏚: Spice World
📍: Sussex St, Sydney
————————————————————
📝: Spice World is surely a favorite amongst many of those hotpot fans out there. With more than 100 international outlets, the Sydney branch lives up to its name as one of China’s largest hotpot chains. There are arcade games, robots, and massaging chairs in this labyrinthine restaurant.

❤️: You are to cook your own hotpot at your table, with signatures being Wagyu beef draped across Barbie dolls, shrimp stuffed in bamboo shoots, and Hello Kitty-shaped stock cubes.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
With robot waiters circling the dining room handing out mints to diners, and Barbie dolls wrapped in wagyu reminiscent of Lady Gaga’s meat dress, Spice World is certainly an eye-catching operation. The Sydney branch of this Chinese chain of spicy Sichuan hot pot restaurant hovers one level above Sussex Street, accessed via an escalator behind a check in desk. The colour theme is red and black, with bold patterns and a strong sense of design. Concrete grey walls reflect Chinese characters up onto mirrored ceilings in the entrance-way. In the dining room proper, black steamer basket lids and red paper lanterns create a dazzling lid to your cooking operations, illuminated by cleverly disguised spotlights shining down onto each table. Transparent red doors take you through to private dining rooms, where you can slurp your way through your hot pot experience with only your friends to laugh at your disposable Do Not Disturb apron (an essential part of the Spice World experience). The real attraction at Spice World though is the staff – never before have I felt so ‘invited in’ to a hot pot dining experience. From...

If I start with describing the experience before the food, it’s because this was an EXPERIENCE. The food was tasty and interesting but took a second place to a really fun evening with friends over a spicy hotpot. It’s truly been years since I last did this. The first time, with foodies from Malaysia and Hong Kong, I learned about the ‘Ring of Fire’ phenomenon that some people experience after eating really spicy food. I’m not going into details (although I don’t suffer from this).
The RnB Diary
I had long been intrigued by the robots and Barbie doll in Spice World. Now the waiting time was no longer 1-2 hours, we finally got the opportunity to have dinner here this week. . The robot was the first thing that came to attention as it moved steadily toward us near the entrance. Once the initial excitement gone, we thanked the smiling robot and politely declined the candies it offered.

Spice World. The name says it all. If you ask for spice, you’ll get it in spades. But don’t fret, plenty of things don’t have spice at all. Spice World Haymarket is certainly an experience. Make your name known to a staff member on the ground floor if you’ve booked – which we recommend you do since the restaurant is super popular. We dine in early and had a booking which we are grateful for, because the lines were insane. If you’re dining around 7:30 or later, we’d say it’s about a 30 minute wait. Apparently you can book via We Chat as well. Head up the escalators and you’re led to your table. Expect also to be greeted by a robotic who hands out mints at the door as you make your way to Spice World.

Cute place but seriously overpriced and don’t expect to get good service if you don’t speak Chinese

Absolutely love this place, the soup is great (even the refill), the sauce is great and most importantly the service is good. I’ve been there twice, my first visit service was a lot better than the second, but overall it was still a good place for value for money hotpot.

This is a really good hot pot restaurant with the option of individual or a large sharing pot. We had the half and half large hot pot with spicy broth (level 1; stock came in a cute puppy dog shape) and mushroom broth. For the ingredients, we had the marble beef dressed barbie which was a relatively more expensive cut of beef but it was very good and the gimmick was funny.

There is a very large range of meats, seafood and vegetables so you’ll definitely be full by the end. I really liked the crab balls with fish roe and hand shaved noodles. There are also small cooked dishes/desserts and we had the deep fried rice cakes with brown sugar which were really good. They also have these swan shaped cakes that come in durian and sweet potato so if you like durian, this one is for you.

Overall, lovely experience, clean restaurant and the service was great. Happy to come back!!

It was our first time experiencing hotpot in Sydney. We had heard a lot about this place, the robots and the bear shapes broth. So we thought it would be unique to give it a try. Unfortunately, the robots weren’t in action due to a sensor issue, and the only way to have the bear shape is to order large hotpot instead of individual as the bear would not fit. The service was on point and the staff were super helpful with answering our questions regarding the food.
The food portions were good for the price we paid, though the wild mushroom broth was a little bland.
A big let down was the self service spice stations were not part of the dining, so we had to pay $3.90 pp to use the spices. We were not told of this before by the waiting staff.
Stella Priscilia
As I really like spicy food, so I ordered the traditional spicy & wild mushroom broth for the base. Unfortunately, the spicy broth is too oily for me but the wild mushroom is not bad. I like the other dishes, especially the wagyu meat because it’s thick and juicy
Meowktail
Hyped modern hotpot place on Chinatown with rotating robots carrying mini oil sauce cans. Barbie wagyu was dressed humourously & everyone had a good laugh, ingredients are fresh and good quality. Broth is well flavoured and seasoned, restaurant is on the higher end. Good experience and service.
Strawberry_vee
Spice world is a popular hot pot restaurant in Sydney CBD, one that I enjoy visiting frequently. They have an extensive menu, with good variety at the sauce station as well as delicious (but spicy) side dishes. The staff are friendly and they have a robot roaming the restaurants with a tray of mints!
Tim Ng
A bit hard to find as it is not at street level. One floor up and the restaurant is impressive. Lovely rooms with lots of space. Service is prompt and there is even a robot. The dishes are fresh and presented well. Highly recommended for hot pot lovers.
Danny Nguyen
This restaurant was an absolutely amazing experience. Just had my birthday dinner last night. Great services, good ambiences & varieties of selections to choose from. Highly recommended!

I had my first hot pot in this place. This place is so good. Staffs were so good to us. They were polite and friendly. They help newcomers too much so that we can enjoy our hotpot well. Food is also so delicious.
How amazing, you can have a dinner with your family or friends. The dinning environment is so great with fresh food and greatest seafood. It's a best hot pot restaurant I ever seen.

this is best hot pot。I real like it. It’s very delicious and great place to eat if you like American style Asian food. The wait time was a little bit too long. But the service is really good. Tomato soup is the best

Long waiting of at least an hour, but it's all worth.
There are so many kinds of sauces.
Highly recommend you to try this, especially the tomato broth and the snowflake wagyu.

The restaurant very cozy, i like it, and the foods so delicious, the side dish is all you can eat. This restaurant recomended for you who love spice foods
The experience in spice world is amazing. There are a lot of different sources and It’s really good to try different combination of sources. The staffs are also friendly. They gave me a lot of recommendations about how to make a good source. They even help me make the most popular taste in North china and South China. ❤️❤️❤️
Patricia Bañez-Consolacion
Spice world is not your ordinary hotpot place!

I simply adored their wild mushroom broth. Even my toddler loved it! The tomato broth was my parents’ favorite. They have a condiments area and the servers go around to refill your broth once in awhile.

The meats were tender, the beef tendon balls were also a hit. Order the vegetable platter (not in picture) for a more wonderful experience.

Best hotpot restaurant SYD I’ve ever been!!! Plenty kind of sauces we can combined with and the only hotpot restaurant which can choose the pot size. Service was great and waiters were cute as well. Our dishes come pretty fast and they arranged everything on the table.

The meets were sooo fresh and the Barbie was adorable, all the meets were sliced and rolled freshly. Highly recommend the chicken broth with fish maw. Definitely valuable to have a try.

Excellent for cold rainy weather. The service is quick. Food is very fresh .definitely worth ! Can never go wrong with hotpot. it‘s best one hotpot in syd!!!
@foodtom
Spice world was an absolutely amazing experience. Everything was top notch. Prompt service, great atmosphere and they even have robots. My personal favourite was the meat barbie.
Miagoreng.com
Absolutely love our Spice World experience - such a delicious feast of meat, seafood and hotpot. Our friend made the booking particularly to eat from the barbie doll. We could make our own dipping sauce and there were robots going around with mentos. It’s pricier than usual but makes for a fun experience and the interior is beautiful.
Jen
Really fresh and delicious produce with great service from everyone! A bit on the pricey side for hotpot, but within reason as the food is good. Very big variety of sauces with fun recipes to make your own.
Bigmelbappetite
“Meat” your Hotpot Queen 👸! We had the most incredible time at Spice World , with highlights including the barbie-doll meat platter, a robot that served you mints, and some of the tastiest szechuan and mushroom soups we’ve ever had!! Sitting at a higher price point than your usual hot pot restaurants it’s more than worth it with the added novelty! So good we went twice in one week! 😍
Mary Nguyen
Good food but the service and wait was horrible ! Firstly we called 3 days in advance to make a booking for 9; however they said they don’t do bookings for big groups and that we would be ok to just walk in and be seated. (Lie #1)

But little did we know ....We came there at 7:10 only to be seated abit after 9pm .... we were told there was a 40 min wait for our group of 9ppl , which we thought wasn’t too bad ... after 40 mins we were told to go upstairs to go to our table.

Then the people up stairs told us to wait to the side because the table we were supposed to be on was getting cleared ....
After another 30 mins, I went to the front desk to ask what was going on with our table and that we have waited for nearly 1.5 hours ..... again we were told that our table was getting cleared

Not only did the wait piss us off but the big group that arrived after us was seated first as well as other small groups.

..... soon a different lady came up to us finally told us that they were quickly cleaning up one of the rooms so we could get seated .... at this point nothing was promising anymore
Ps. That took about another 30 mins ...

We had karaoke reservations at 9:30, which had to be delayed .....

If only the restaurant was honest with us from the beginning that it would take 2 hours to be seated... we would’ve gladly ate 24 chicken nuggets at maccas ....
Kelly Lim
I particularly like the wagyu as it's fresh and thinly sliced. We also ordered sweet tapioca noodle which I think is special. Our soup base were tomato and traditional spicy broth and they keep my coming back for more. Service is good even though there wasn't any robot used for service
Trish
This place is pretty overrated. Went at lunch on a saturday and it wasn’t very packed. The food was decent. Tom yum broth was good however the wild mushroom soup was just bland. Definitely try the seafood dumplings, super juicy and flavoursome. The meats were okay. Quite overpriced, i wouldn’t go again.
Alice Chau Nguyen
I really liked it here and the customer service was good! It is a little bit on the pricier side for hot pot but all the quality of meats and seafood was worth it.
When I went for a birthday we were situated in our own little private room and food came out in a timely manner. I would recommend it for those who like something fancy. Overall, great experience!
Ninahooo
Great hotpot place with an awesome sauce station. Food was fresh and good quality. Interesting and fun presentation of their food. Great for groups.
Katw
Great hot pot place, on the more expensive side however the quality and variety is worth paying the premium. There is a wide range of sauces and condiments, there is also a section for you to pick up some free side dishes which was a nice bonus. We tried the famous barbie dressed in wagyu, expecting it to be average however the quality of the meat really surprised us. They were doing a plate of 8 shrimps for $1 on the day we went and it seems like they have different deals each day, such great value!
Love At First Bite
Spice World is a hotpot chain of restaurants originating from China that has recently opened in Singapore and now, Sydney. They are famous for their creative and futuristic décor and dishes and I could not wait to try it out as a I am a huge fan of hotpot, especially during winter, to bring friends and family together.
The Hungry Hippo
Great restaurant and a fun hot pot experience. One of the best ones I’ve ever had. Love the huge choice of sauces to choose from and the combinations they recommend.

The dishes were well presented especially the wagyu Barbie and the hello kitty doll paste for the soup base. The attendants were very helpful but English lacking abit. One let down was the fish we ordered had tiny bones in it, which was really unpleasant to eat.
Olivia
The decoration of this restaurant is very good. Feel comfortable to have dinner in here. The taste of hotpot is very decent just like normal hotpot. The price is quite pricy. When i come here i keep sneezing maybe because of the spicy smell.
Kelly
The service here is absolutely appalling.

You would think if you had arrived a little late to a restaurant they would have called you or held the table for a little bit before cancelling. We arrived 10-15 minutes late and the lady said that as part of the policy the table gets cancelled. What policy? We weren’t aware of any.

We waited for 1hr and 20 mins for our second requested table when we were told 10-20 mins wait time. We ordered a hello kitty butter block in which the waiter brought it out on a plate. Not even thinking, he slid the hello kitty block into the pot of stock which splashed the buttered stock all onto MY table space, my bag, a little on my clothes and covered the wall 5cm beside me.

He didn’t even apologise or offer to clean it, he simply gasped “oh”... what would you expect from sliding a 20x10cm block of butter into stock?

Before I had eaten I was already done. The chilli stock contained little peppers that softened and would come into your bowl if you had wanted soup. I had accidentally bitten into one which had my mouth tingling for hours. It was almost like I couldn’t feel my mouth anymore.

If it came down to wait time and service, I wouldn’t be returning.

When you had a long day at work and want to make something quick and easy for dinner.
@spiceworldsydney, surely you can find at least one hot pot soup recipe on this list to serve you for dinner, there’s gonna be the best choice, we were fascinated by this restaurant.
Follow me on Instagram.com/igeorgesflavours

Went in at 1130am. No wait needed. Ordered the hello kitty and chicken based pot. The hello kitty soup was way too oily to eat in my opinion, the menu selection was quite complicated and unlike other restaurants. The wait for the food was quick, so that was great. Wasn’t amazed by the food and was not as good as expected. Way too expensive when ordering in bulks, would not come here again.
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
We were lucky enough to try this place. The restaurant is located on level 2, it was a bit hard to find. The restaurant is very spacious, clean with modern -chinese decoration. We really like their food, the meat quality was on point.it was a shame we forgot to try their sauces! They have varieties of sauces that match with the meat.

Our favourite are milk flavour beef and swan dessert you have to try it!!!!
Lisa Lachowski
Quality of the food, soup, sauces and service were great! Very fresh ingredients however portion sizes were quite small for $170 for 2 people.
I'm Hangry
Spice World sells itself on the novelty it brings to the humble Chinese hot pot – the Wagyu on the barbie doll, the robots circling the dining floor, the melting teddy bear stock base and more. So I was expecting a fun night out, but an average food night out. It turned out to be both a fun night, with lots of oohs and ahhs but also a delicious dinner.

When you first enter Spice World, it seems normal, until one of the robots carrying a tray of mints, almost bumps into you. The robots really set the scene for the rest of the meal and you just know that it will be quite an experience!

The hot pot menu is fairly standard for a hot pot venue. First, you choose the soup – my suggestion is to choose the hot pot in the centre to share with friends with half spicy and half clear soup because no one can ever handle just the spicy even if you choose mild. Second, you choose all the ingredients for the hot pot – my suggestion is a good mix of vegetables, balls (fish balls, lobster balls, etc) and thin slices of meat (beef, lamb, etc). Spice World also has a good selection of cooked items. They also have some complimentary sides and thankfully, fruit. Trust me, the watermelon is a lifesaver once you dig into the spicy hot pot!

For some novelty, choose the beautifully wrapped Barbie doll covered in thin slices of Wagyu beef and the stock base shaped as a teddy bear or Hello Kitty that melts in the broth. It’s a little sad to watch the poor thing disappear into the spicy soup…

If you’ve never been to hot pot before, it’s meant to be a lengthy meal as you slowly cook the ingredients in the soup. By the way, my favourite ingredient is the fish roe ball – it’s basically a chewy fish ball filled with fish roe inside and when you bite in, the fish roe pops out and melts in your mouth. Truly magnificent!

For the full review, go to imhangry.net/2018/10/08/spice-world-hot-pot-sydney-cbd/

As a group who like spicy but not too much, we chose mild thinking we could handle it. Unfortunately our taste buds did not agree haha. So apart from crying in the restaurant, everything else was delicious 🙆🏻‍♀️

The quality of food here is superb and staff are attentive. Side dishes/ condiments is one of the few standouts of this place for me - definitely worth the price.

Honestly, I am not a person who typically appreciates Chinese cuisine. But today at Spice World in Chinatown, I have had a completely mindblowing Chinese food experience. Not only is their food delectably unforgettable, they’re also weirdly photogenic. I mean, who would’ve thought to dress Barbie in wagyu?!? Spice World, that’s who!😋

If you plan to do lunch, I suggest you get here early to take a photo of the place without people. It’s as if you booked the place to yourselves.😉

Their staff are also warm and very attentive without being obtrusive. They pleasantly answer questions and are very patient when we ask them to take our photo (apparently, they’re used to this lol). And also, don’t forget to get a photo taken with their robot waiter/waitress!😜
Al&Val
Definitely a very fulfilling hotpot experience. The decoration of the restaurant was grand with marble tables and lanterns. Got a free soup base with double flavours of mushroom soup and Tom yum soup. The wide variety of refillable sauces was amazing complete with suggested recipes for making sauce combinations. Very high quality meat and good service. Would come here again.

it's not everyday that we eat a Chinese HotPot accompanied by a Wagyu Beef Barbie, a Spicy Hello Kitty inside our Soup and a Robot Staff!

Sah cool & yummy! 👸🏼🤖🍲🏮⁣

Located at the heart of Chinatown Sydney, we gotta say, this is our first time eating there and it won't be our last. 😊

The wagyu is so juicy and the DIY Sauce station makes a lot of difference where you can mix and match your own dipping sauce to suit your taste buds. Love it! ❤️
-⁣
🤖: @spiceworldsydney ⁣

Amazing hot pot ... I'm not a fan of hot pot but this place does good meats and spicy broth. Besides all the gimmick stuff the food is good but slightly pricey. Make sure you get the meat Barbie and the snow wagyu.
Ann
For $80 pp it was definitely a bit overpriced value for food. Although I would imagine most people come here for the gadgets and decor. The wagyu barbie beef was a highlight. I had doubts about the 'diy' section of fish balls etc, tasted just like the store packet ones.
Famishedduo
Spice World is the largest hot pot restaurant in Australia! Locally sourced quality meat straight from their trusted suppliers.
The three most important rules for hot pot, which spice world has just nailed!
1. The food
2. The Soup
3. The dipping sauce

The service was great, plenty of seating and a wide selection of dishes and dipping sauces.
The meat was excellent with high grade quality cuts.
Suiyanyan
I have been to this restaurant twice, both occasions were with friends. The atmosphere there was fun.

The restaurant needs to do more to remove the cooking fume, evaporating chilli oil from pots can cause nose and throat irritations. I know the robot doesn't do much but move around sometimes with a tray of Mentos and cans of sesame oil. The sesame sauce at the sauce counter runs out quickly.

It may take a while for individual pots to come to the table. One of our friends ordered a personal (mini) pot with two types non-spicy soups. Her wait was considerably longer than the rest of us. We occupied a table of 4.

The price is on the expensive side, expect $60 p.p. for food and one drink. There is a minimum spending of $900 for the use of a private room. There is surcharge for paying with cards.
Jenny
we had to wait for an hour for a table but then again it’s a saturday night and it’s a hot spot with novelty things! we didn’t do a reservation because they did not pick up the phone earlier but the wait wasn’t too bad due to all the games they have in the waiting area such as the arcade, jenga and crawl machine. the food was awesome! meat barbie was so cool, the robot doing rounds with mentos was really cute and fun and condom wet wipes haha, it was overall a great experience however the price was a bit too much.
Grant
The hotpot broth tasted like powdered stock and was heavy on the MSG. The other ingredients like the raw beef were not fresh. A disappointing experience.
Anna
Very different to any of the hot pot places I've been to, but I quite enjoyed it. The interior and seating areas is very spacious and great atmosphere. I went for lunch so got a seat right away and it wasn't too busy at the time. I got half herbal chicken soup and half chilli broth, with the adorable Hello kitty soup stock. The food we had (wagyu beef, shrimp roe, 1m lamb board, beef tendon balls and mushroom platter) was good, although a bit pricey compared to other hot pot joints. Overall, a great experience and would recommend others to try it out!

Absolutely loved this place - waited about an hour for a seat on a Friday night but really wanted to try it out. No regrets - the meat and veggies were delicious, got half chilli half chicken broth soup as bases w the hello kitty 🐱
