I liked it, granted a little pricy for what you can get down the road but their execution was on point and delivered in good portion size.
Must try the pickles, absolutely smashing lol
A 'British Chippy' located near Bondi Junction Westfield. They have an extensive menu of the traditional fish and chips as well as chicken, burgers, and pies. They also sell a variety of sides too. Wasn't too busy so service was quick and friendly.
The special of Cod, Mushy Peas & Chips were had. The mushy peas reminded of the classic fish and chips you get in the UK (and same with the vinegar on the tables). It was a generous portion of both the fish and the chips. Both the fish and chips could've been crispier as some bits and pieces were a bit soggy. The peas were quite nice.
If you don't like British/ Irish fish and chips then this is not the place for you. The chips are meant to be plentiful and a bit chewy, this is what happens when you get real potatoes and fry them fresh rather than use frozen chips like the majority, even the better, restaurants on Australia do. And they don't do chicken salt, this is because it's not a British/ Irish thing.
If you do like British/ Irish fish and chips then this place is great, proper fish and chip shop chips, malt vinegar, salt and British canned drinks, a real taste of home haddock and cod all supplied with a good portion of chips. It is a shame that the place doesn't have more seating and fish was a little dry on the day we are there but that can be forgiven as it has to fly round from the other side of the world. Will be back.
The only shop in Sydney has haddock and cod for fish and chips that I am aware of, just like how they do it in the Blighty. The meat of haddock and cod is a lot flakier than barramundi or flathead and hence tastes a lot better. It's the typical fish and chips served in the UK. We also ordered curry sauce and pickled eggs to go with the fish and chips, just like back in the UK. To top it off you can choose from a large range of English soda, like cream soda, tizer, Irn and Blu. Brings back the memories of UK!
If you're irish and you're missing the local chipper then this is the place to go! The chips with curry and cheese are amazing and so is the sausage in batter!! Tastes like home!
Great for Expats. This is a place I go when I get a hankering for a curry chip and cheese, or fried chicken similar to home! I've lived over here for years and am glad there's finally a decent UK/Irish style chip shop around. Lovely for a treat!
O MY COD. I had been anticipating the opening of this place for quite some time, and let me tell you it did not disappoint!
I’ve been about 6 times since the opening in September and always try to get something different each time.
The first time I was here I tried the cod and chips. The chips were perfect just like the local chip shop we went to back in the 70's when every chippy made their own chips well before bulk cheap frozen chips arrived on the scene. They are always done to p-e-r-f-e-c-t-i-o-n and the portion of chips you receive are tantalizingly generous and gently sprinkled in salt and vinegar!
The cod was sooooo fresh! Every bite melted in my mouth and the crisp of the batter made my taste buds tingle in anticipation for more!
The Southern fried chicken is so succulent and moist, paired with the crisp golden brown skin adorned in bread crumbs can only be described as a taste of heaven!
And the curry sauce, THE CURRY! Salivatingly proper, thick curry liberally drizzled over perfect chips a must to accompany any order!
Always packed but don't be put off by the queue outside especially over the holidays, these guys move fast.
Another shop opening in Randwick soon according to their facebook :)
Amazing!!. Have been waiting for this place to open for ages now....and it was worth it! Ordered the haddock, battered sausage, chips, mushy peas and scraps - it was better than back at home!!!! Happy to know that i don't have to try and explain what proper fish and chips are anymore....or put up with below average attempts at Watsons Bay - thank you for doing what we've all been missing for so long :-)
