Came here with my daughter - she loved the experience and especially the fish congee. We’ll be back!
Not easy on the wallet by any means, but is this the worst Chinese I’ve had? No. In fact, not nearly. Based on the existing reviews for New Tai Yuen, I’m not sure if we were lucky to visit on a good day or what the go was, but we were happy with our meal.
The Spring Rolls were tasty, and the Gow Gee were awesome! For mains we ordered Satay Chicken and the Sweet BBQ Beef. Both these dishes were pretty good. The fried rice was a little bland, but again, I’ve certainly had worse.
All in all I really can’t make any complaints. The staff were attentive and friendly, the food was served quickly and we enjoyed the experience overall.

Had the banquet here for $18 each and the food was pretty good.
Only downside was that we ordered fried rice each, costing us an extra $2 per person but they ended up only giving us one plate of rice which wasn't enough.
Anyway, service wasn't bad and the food came out pretty quick.
Located in Chinatown along the main strip where all the restaurants are competing against each other so it's pretty easy to get to.
Amazing Service. My father had his Birthday here last night, not only was the food delicious but the staff were simply so helpful and friendly, happily helping me organise a surprise for him going above and beyond for our dinner.
Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Thankyou again!!
Had dinner at this restuarant on the 14th September 2013 with my husband, we ordered a Prawn cutlets and Chrispy chicken with pancakes Pekimg style for our entree, and for the main we had sweet & sour pork, billiki chicken and mixed stir fry vegetables. I didnt't expect much from this restaurant at first but I was VERY IMPRESSED by the freshness and the quality of the prawns and chicken it was so tender. I've been to many chinese restuarants and sweet and sour pork is one of my favourite dishes, I must say that the sauce was the best I had in a very long time.
Although the restaurant was abit busy and there was minimum staffs on the floor, they were all very efficient and friendly, I would to make a shout out to the waiter name Alex - (one with bow tie) he had the BEST SERVICE and was also smiling unlike other chinese restaurants waiter''s in chinatown who seem like they ate a sour lolly at all time.
During dinner I decided to have a read through the reviews and noticed that there are some negative feedbacks, I asked the friendly lady at the counter and was advised that they only recently brought over the business at the start of September 2013 therefore the restaurant is under New Management as the previous owner had retired.
I would definitely return to this restaurant and it's quite rare where you find a chinese restaurant who's treats you with courtesy.
Excellent food and service. We went here twice on our trip. The food was amazing, the beef and blackbean was the best I have had.
You couldn't fault the service at all. They cannot do enough to help you.
We will definitely return when we visit Sydney again
I can remember the glory days. Sadly they are long past. What I do love is coming and eating outside in the street with a simple fixed price meal. Not fine dining but has some of the classics like lemon chicken.
An institution that should not be lost.
