Review The Bakers Oven Cafe - Sydney

Shahab “Cro” Khan
Sat down for a quick bite while walking around the area. Did not have the terrible experience others have described. The waiter was busy but super nice and kept apologizing for being short staffed and kept thanking us for being patient. The cheesecake strudel was delicious. Chicken curry mince pie was so so. Coffee was excellent. For the setting, listen, history I think is a good choice for a quick stop.

Great service, comfortable place with a great view of The Rocks Sydney. Their Lemon Curd Tart is an ABSOLUTE BEST!!!💯 Especially they serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and cream. Everytime i go there, the Lemon Curd Tart is always my first choice. Highly recommended!!! Pretty sure gonna visit there often👍

Horrendous. No excuse for food of such poor quality. Does not matter how busy you are or public holiday or not. If you can't provide service and quality of a certain calibre stop taking peoples money for this absolute garbage. $10 plus public holiday surcharge for a microwaved (in front of us so no denying it), stale, dry croissant with half a slice of lowest grade ham and literally invisible cheese. All up we bought 2 dry, lukewarm spinach rolls, 2 aforementioned croissants and 2 bottled juices...$59! Happy to support small business and happy to pay for the privilege as I have a cafe myself but this kind of rip off gives us all a bad name. Thanks Baker's Oven, you ruined our one and only day off in twelve months. Disgusting.

This was a really nice place to have a late breakfast while we were holidaying in Sydney recently. The price of the meals is to be expected for that area of the city, food was lovely, and the staff were all friendly. I rounded up my bill as a tip because of some of these reviews, the hard time is not warranted. I'd ask people visiting this establishment -like you should in any establishment- to have some patience, take in the lovely atmosphere in a historic and busy tourist district while you wait, and be nice to the staff!

Recommendation: Not recommended. Avoid at all cost. Con: poor service, staff with attitude, long wait time, food quality does not justify the price, cleanliness in indoor dining area not observed Pro: Great central location offering alfresco and indoor dining. Coffee is acceptable. Experience: Traumatic. Ordered at 1130am for brunch. I got the big breakfast and a coffee 30 mins after placing the order, I approaced the bar to ask for water, I got a good yelling from the barista saying hes busy. As I was going back to my seat, I can still hear the barista making snide comments about me. Someone at the counter yelled, "Zip it!". That was when he stopped his verbal attack on me and decided to just give me stares of death. The manager and staff were all blatantly yelling and fighting with each other behind the counter where visible to everyone. I felt completely uncomfortable. I had thought of just leaving and cancelling but the queue was packed from several customers who were asking for a refund because of the long wait time. The food was served at around 12:40pm. My poached eggs arrived hard boiled. Sausage was uncooked in the middle and hash brown was cold and uncooked in the middle. Did not eat my food.(see photo) The managers are arguing with customers who were asking for refund due to long wait time, reasoning that they were busy. I heard the manager telling the person at the counter to make the customer pay immediately as they order. Dirty towels inside the kitchen are very visible from the dining area. Obviously understaffed which add pressure to the team. Wait staff are throwing serviettes on the table out of frustrations. What a stressful way to start a promising Sunday morning. I would never wish this experience to my worse enemy.

All of the pastries were so authentic. The cherry strudel was to die for! As a fussy Italian, I’m often not impressed but this was a wonderful experience. Lovely staff- they took the time to serve us even after they closed, and engaged in conversation with us. Would highly recommend!

Stopped by here for lunch after walking along the Rocks area and harbour. Came here on off hours and was well served, portions and value relatively reasonable for this area.

Honestly one of the best big breakfasts iv had, simple but with great flavours and everything cooked perfectly. Also extremely quick, since ordering we had our coffees in about 2 minutes and food within 10. Great place highly advice. Only flaw is they still use plastics straws.
Anthony Gombu
Sausage roll and quiche looked floppy and microwaved. $16. Old servo scraps taste better. Avoid! <br/>

Overpriced and Very rude staffs. Not recommended!!
Rachael
Apparently if you go north in the rocks to circular quay you are limited to pubs and this cafe. Pretty substandard quiche and the plating left a lot to be desired. Actively was stressing me out with their incompetence, lack of speed and misinformation. Oh and food was non too special and for the reason very, very overpriced.
Dirk
We got pies and sausage rolls take away so we could sit on the grassed area overseeing the harbour while enjoying our lunch. I would have thought sausage rolls & pies in a pretty fail safe option even with poor reviews! Boy was i wrong! Clearly i made a mistake. The sausage rolls lacked any flavour, it tasted like it was filler chewy and tasted more like cereal. The pie also left a lot to be desired. If it wasn't for the tourist traffic choosing this place as it looks quite appealing it wouldn't be open for long.
Jia Jiet Lim
Food is acceptable but does not seem to worth the price. Should have asked the price before purchase.
Tastypanda
Cute little Cafe which was open late as we walked back from dinner. Couldn't resist one of the little desserts displayed out the front. Will definitely be back another timme to try some of the other cakes
Maria Elfrida
Oh I love the presentation of their cakes in the window of their shop! I cant resist to come in, although we already full. We tried the lamington cake and the wild berry strudel. The lamington was soft and alright, but the wild berry strudel, OMG the cream and berry was so good! It was warm, the cream was thick and very delightful! Will come back to try another cakes for sure! They all looks tempting!🤩

This place is very close from The Rock’s. We just stumbled upon this place while strolling the Rocks neighbourhood.<br/>Food- We had to eat the Lamington (This is one of the famous cake pastrie with dessicated coconut. Pretty yummy and worth the visit. We also tried their cheese blueberry strudel(Creaminess of the cheese, little sweet and sour taste of the blueberries, it was also delicious) and their coffee <br/>Customer service- Decent <br/>Value for money- Moderate<br/>Ambience- They have their open air as well as indoor seating. We chose to sit at the patio, perfect evening weather with slight chill in the air <br/>

If you happen to walk in, walk straight out! JUST DON'T BOTHER.<br/><br/>The staff are rude, argumentative and extremely uninterested. The level of service does not justify the ridiculously high prices. <br/><br/>If I could rate this minus 5 stars, I would but unfortunately to post this WARNING, I have to give it one star.

Located on iconic the rock, what I think rent of this place is so high, and reflecting on the menu.<br/>Menu is classic cafes menu with price tag because of location.<br/>My Piccolo was charge $5, and honestly, that’s the cheapest on the menu.
Taylor Dage
Came for lunch with friends for my birthday as we were visiting from Melbourne. Ordered chips, a Parma and salt and pepper squid- all looked nice. The food was cold, we asked for gravy and got none and we had to ask for for water... We enquired about a bandaid (as it’s WHS standards to keep bandaids) to the owner and we were met with the rushed response of “not on me”. <br/>Great spot but very disappointing experience.
Chris
Coffee was good. Had the Avo and eggs for breakfast which was tasty and a good size. It was a bit cold and needs a clean. Tables not being wiped between diners and walls/surfaces all dirty.
Hanryano Y
A so so dining place, went there just because we were starving and new to the food scene around the rocks. Pricey for such unfresh food. The waiters were what made this place a bit bearable. Seriously just find other place to dine as there are numerous down the street with better and more affordable food.
Romy Nayagam
Given the name, expected crisp, crunchy, freshly prepared hot food. Not the case. Sausage roll was microwaved and not hot. Person behind the bar openly rude to wait staff as well. No good.
Sarah Huynh
The only reasonable thing about this place was the customer service. We decided to sit and eat in. Looked at the menu and decided that we wanted something quick and easy so I grabbed the ‘Meat Pie’. The menu states that pies are served with chips and salad. Thought it’d come with the 10.50 but turned out what I was getting was the $19 pie. Did not clarify so that was disappointing. Not only that the pie was stale and chewy did not even come hot. Chips has no seasoning, we dumped salt all over it and it still did not improve the taste. Don’t come here, it’s not worth it.
Nicola Oakley
Just went in for some morning tea and wondered why everything was served warm (without us being asked)....even the coconut slice! When I asked for my croissant to be replaced with a cold one so it wasn't soggy from the microwave, I was bemused to see the server cut open the croissant and pipe in more chocolate filling. When we left the store and opened our food, one bite into it explained everything. The food was clearly not fresh and my companions found the same. Obviously warming our order was a way to conceal how stale everything was. Really awful and a total waste of money as we had to bin the lot. Don't go here.
Katie Bridget
DO NOT EAT HERE! These guys charge a ridiculous rate, taking advantage of all the tourists! They charge $27 for a big breakfast that looks like slop from a school cafeteria and they charged me $15 for a bagel?!?! When challenged on these prices and quality of the food the "manager" didn't have much to say. He said "oh sorry about that" and took "a few dollars" off the bill... He also said he would take my feedback on board, but judging by the other reviews it's obvious he needs Gordon Ramsay to redo his poor excuse for a cafe because he is in serious denial. We luckily stopped a couple about to fall into the cafes trap and told them to eat at the cafe a few doors down as the food, service and prices are MUCH better. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME UNLESS YOU WANT TASTELESS FOOD THAT COSTS A FORTUNE! What a joke! Hope your cafe goes under 💸🖕🏻
Gary Blair
Overpriced and the service was awful. Meals came at separate times and well after (40mins) of the beverages. Even took 15 mins to pay ridiculously overpriced bill. The staff were friendly enough but would avoid this place at all costs if i were you.
Jenny Hay
This place is the worst and you should avoid it.<br/>Firstly, everything is overpriced. Way overpriced.<br/>I ordered a "fresh" apple juice. Everyone knows in this day and age, that "fresh" means from a fruit - freshly squeezed. Not from a bottle. And not when you are charging $6. <br/>I spoke to the "person in charge" and they told me "yes it is fresh" and that if it was squeezed then the menu would say "freshly squeezed". <br/>NO juice from a bottle is "FRESH". its just bottled juice. AND he was very rude as well. Seriously. <br/>and they charged $3 for me sitting down? What? <br/>AVOID.
Scootre
Sllllloooooooooooow service. Coffee and a muffin $16. Fair enough. Nice coffee. Fresh muffin. But almost 20 mins for the coffee. 10 tables. Only 9 people total. The guy next to me paid by credit card. Waiter took away his credit card with the bill. Customer sat there waiting for the card to be returned. More than 5 mins. FAIL.

NO STARS!!!! AVOID THIS PLACE !!!! EVEN IF IT MEANS YOU HAVE TO WALK AN EXTRA BLOCK TO GET SOMETHING TO EAT!this place is an absolute disgrace and a poor excuse for a cafe. I had a cold toasted bagel with what looked like a half a teaspoon of cream cheese which was $10.50 my husband had ordered a spanish omelette but when it came out resembled a rubbery mess with specks of what was supposed to be mushroom onions and capsicum which also came out just luke warm and was $23.50 we had 2 coffees that was $10 for the two. and we got charged $50.10. when I asked for an itemised receipt the rude imbecile behind the cashier aka owner asked why and became aggitated. The only reason this guy is in business is not because of the food or the ambience ( cooks screaming profanities avery 5 secs) but beacuse its a tourist spot I really hope he gets busted someday.
Russell Morgan
Terrible food and worse customer service . Scones as dry as sandpaper. Cant even sit to wait for food apparently. Looks great from outside but tourist trap.
Michael Gordon
ABSOLUTE GARBAGE!Do not waste your time & hard earned money on this terrible, terrible place.<br/>Extremely over priced food that is far below average.<br/>Better off buying a frozen pie than buying a pie from this place.<br/>Never have I felt so robbed, paying so much for such rubbish.<br/><br/>They also charge a 3% fee when paying by card & do not even mention it to you.<br/><br/>Management should be ashamed of how pathetic this place is.<br/><br/>DO NOT EAT HERE!
Pierre Adida
Don't try this place. 2 shrimp and avocado salads + 2 fruit salads priced 90$. Manager was rude and not willing to understand that it is robbery to double the price of the meal when you take it on the spot rather than for take out. We saw the price for take out and we ordered directly without asking for the menu when you are sitting. The server did not tell us that the prices were doubling. This place is to avoid ABSOLUTELY. It reflects badly on the wonderful city of Sydney and should not be in business. Ripping off tourists like that is UNACCEPTABLE.
Urbanspoon111
Do not go here. Absolutely terrible food for the cost, the wait staff do not speak or understand English. They don't know anything about the menu or remember orders correctly. Stay away
Stephen Grant
$60 for breakfast which would have been$20anywhere in potts point. Ordered two eggs avocado and toast. got 1 piece of toast for two eggs. ordered second piece of toast which was $4.00 - waiter didn't bring water. single tiny teenie napkin and a bottle of water costs $7.50<br/><br/>AND 3% surcharge on credit card !!

Food was okay and staff behind the counter were pleasant but experience was entirely ruined by behavior of waitstaff. My friend and I made an order for takeaway but decided to sit and eat on one of their outside tables, which were mostly empty at the time,  for some shelter as it was raining heavily. Unbeknownst to us, the establishment charges a premium for dining in as opposed to takeaway. To my knowledge, this is not common practice in Australia, but it is understandable and we have no issues with that. However, we were disgusted and appalled by how we were treated by the waitstaff. On one instance, one of the waitresses gave us a very displeased look then shook her head and walked away. Her colleague then approached us and demanded that we leave. We were spoken to in an incredibly rude and condescending way; it was clear that an assumption was made that my friend and I had tried to 'cheat' them. This was clearly not the case and the way we were spoken to left us feeling enraged and embarrassed. At no point did we make any unruly demands or even any rude gestures but we were instantly treated with disrespect. We will never re-visit or recommend to anyone else. Advice to management: monitor the behavior of your waitstaff as they are on the front line and can really affect the image of your business. One bad experience is enough for me to never visit again and relay my displeasure to colleagues. I hope you see that such situations can and could have been easily avoided simply by toning down the attitude of your waitstaff.
John Duck
Should have checked before we sat down. The previous reviews summed up how bad this experience was. Staff were very unhelpful. We had to ask them to take our order & then if felt like an imposition. The food was cold & we sent one meal back after discovering egg shell + hairs in the meal. Don't go here
Keiran Woods
So. I've never left a review before, but today's experience at The Bakers Oven was honestly the worst overall I've ever had at a cafe in Sydney. <br/>We came here with friends who had travelled here from all over to come to the Rocks to do the usual tourist thing, and we were all starving and just wanted to enjoy some of the best breakfast culture in the world. Boy, were we wrong to come here. <br/>The first two people that served us were so rude, although it was a busy Sunday, they were unhelpful and ignored us once we were seated.<br/>Once we had finally ordered, we waited 20 minutes just for our drinks, with no water brought out like we had asked. All of our meals were tasteless, sparse. And one of us ordered the Fresh Avocado on Sourdough with Lemon Pepper, with a side of poached eggs and a hash brown which totalled $24. Looking at the attached image, it did not come out as expected or desired. <br/>All of the meals were terrible, the service was terrible and the experience was terrible. The Bakers Oven is a disgrace for a cafe in such a high traffic area, let alone in Sydney. Obviously all of these poor reviews mean nothing to the owners, which is really unfortunate.
Jason Saputro
If there's a negative rate that would be great. Rude staff, bad food, no wonder why all of their foods are still piled up at the evening near their closing time. If you don't really want to serve your customer then don't! I hope the owner or someone will read all of these reviews.
Crab Master
Despite the less than positive review here I decided to give the Bakers Oven a go. The front of the shop always looks fantastic with pies, pastries and sweets stacked up in the window,.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. The pie I ate was overpriced and only marginally better than the service station variety. Given it was more than twice as expensive I expected better.<br/><br/>Service was abrupt and somewhat disinterested. I have a feeling this place gets away with what it does because of the decent location and tourists that don't know any better.
GobbleDok
'Gourmet steak and pepper pie' ($8) was anything but. Dry pastry, meat unidentifiable and fell to pieces in a tray.<br/>Would have been better to have frozen pie from supermarket.
Sarahmck8
Overpriced, underwhelming and not even worth half a star. Prices are through the roof and the quality of the food was sub par. I do not recommend stopping by
Gnart Gnat
Rude, arrogant, and worse of all BURNT COFFEE, dry cakes. Don't be fooled by the full window displays. All this place has going for it is location.
Michael Waldie
Not exactly cheap but I wasn't expecting it to be in The Rocks. I had the Spanish Omlette. It's a good vego option. The Spanish onions really had that sweet taste and I'm normally very fussy when it comes to mushrooms, I'm not huge on brown ones as it is but these were good.<br/>The first omlette was not the style I was expecting, I guess it was more like a pizza shape with the extras cooked into place, as opposed to the fold over style I've only ever experienced before today.<br/>I ordered an iced coffee, as I'd been walking a few kms before arriving. It was a little strong but I have coffee about once a decade. Once I mixed in the cream and ice cream, boom, weakened it down to my liking very nicely.<br/>I had very quick and friendly service on arriving, taking my order and payment of the bill.
Leila El Allaui
This place is worth a 0/5 without even being harsh. The food was disgusting and the prices were exorbitant! We had 2 quiches and 1 toasted sandwich for $40, I couldn't finish my quiche or I would have had to vomit it on their dirty floor and wobbly table.<br/>DO NOT GO! Actually if you happen to be around that place, just go next door!
Haohao
I ordered take away coffee when I walk past by today. That was the first and last time I will ever go to the bakers oven. Just a friendly reminder to the customers who go to the bakers oven order coffee in cup, do not use their teaspoon, the employees touch the spoon bits when they place spoon on the saucer, so I won't be surprised if the food were served under poor hygiene there .If the boss ever read reviews please do not force the guy who was making coffee around 12pm today to work on Saturday again. He was on a bad mood, he spilled the coffee just wiped the cup with table cloth and top up more milk. If you had a coffee that was not strong enough you know what happened to it. My take away iced coffee was half full, I'm sure I paid full price. A lot of decent cafe in city don't let this one ruin your weekend
TomPP
Obviously relies on a walk in tourist customer base, and not return trade. Our experience was consistent, almost entertainingly. <br/><br/>One of our group asked for the eggs benedict to either not come with the advertised ham or salmon, or if it could come with avocado instead. She was told neither was possible, not even a no-ham/salmon option. Another asked for apple juice and was given pineapple. When he said he had asked for pineapple, the server told him that he hadn't, that he had said Apple. The juice was never changed. No two pieces of the 8 pieces of cutlery matched. All drinks and meals were placed on the table at the position closest to the server, and we were expected to pass them around, despite easy access around the table. The BLT sandwich came with a crazy amount of lettuce, 2 slices of tomato and 2 slices of bacon - the later two barely covering half of the Turkish roll. A ham and cheese croissant came flattened, and so toasted that cheese inside was hard. No bill came, and staff ignored us, so we went to the counter to pay, only to be chastised by the register operator for doing so. <br/><br/>Overall, a disgusting tourist trap, and really embarrassing to think of how this represents our country to those visitors.
Amelia
If there was a zero star option, this place would get it.<br/><br/>I went to this place a few years ago and from memory it was good. However the owners must have changed, because what we got today was definitely not what we got previously.<br/>The menu pricing was exorbitant: $26 for a salad, $22 for a burger, $20 for an open melt sandwich, $12 for a ham and cheese croissant. What!!??!? I suggested to my group that we just get up and leave, based on menu prices alone, but they had more faith in this place as our memories told us that this place was good last time. So we stayed.<br/><br/>Then it came time to order. We all ordered the least exorbitantly priced lunch item on the menu- a grilled chicken turkish roll for $14.50. The fillings were grilled chicken, cheese, tomato, lettuce, mayo. Very basic imo. Later that evening when I recounted my day to my family, they almost had a heart attack at the price that I paid for a sandwich, but that is another story. Anyway, I asked the waiter if I could have some basil pesto on mine, to try and offset the plainness of this sandwich and justify the price. He said yes but it would cost a bit extra. How much extra, I asked. "$2.20". Forget it. So we just ordered 3 of the turkish roll chicken sandwiches.<br/><br/>When they came out (along with our bill, mind you - rushed much?), they were very sad-looking, mediocre sandwiches on chipped/dirty looking plates. The cups provided for table water were straight out of a third world nation; dirty-looking and my water had floaties in it so I didn't touch it. There were also disgusting pigeons everywhere, crawling under people's tables etc. <br/><br/>The taste was bleh. I can basically guarantee that this "bakers oven" does not bake their own goods, as the turkish rolls used for this sandwich look identical to the pre-packaged, processed ones you can buy from the supermarket. Also the grilled chicken was not hot and didn't look too appetising. I didn't finish mine. As we exited the cafe, I noticed the turkish rolls sitting in the display cabinet. Who knows how long they were sitting there for.<br/><br/>Later that evening for dinner, I made myself a delicious fresh baked turkish bread sandwich with ham, provolone cheese, avocado, garlic aioli, lettuce and cucumber which was 1000000x than this dining out experience and for a fraction of the price.<br/><br/>The owners should be banned from operating any sort of food outlet as evidently, they are so arrogant and delusional in believing they are so far above it all that they can charge royalties for a sub-par, tragically incompetent dining experience. Very bad experience and we got royally ripped off (and we're locals! You would think we would know better). This is a TOURIST TRAP. Do not go. We will never ever be returning.
Nancy
I wish there was 0/5 stars option because this place deserves it. We planned to stop over for a nice, refreshing lunch and instead we left infuriated and disgusted. We ordered the turkish bread sandwiches simply because of price. They were $14.50 which is ridiculously expensive but when you're at a place that charges $23 for a salad, then your options are limited. Our waiter was extremely awkward and had no serving skills what so ever. We asked for table water and he forgot to bring it. When he brought our meal over, he decided it would also be appropriate to hand us the bill. Are you serious? We haven't even taken a bite of our food yet! Relax! He also suddenly remembered the table water but I was turned off when I saw the cups were dirty and looked like they hadn't been washed in months. The sandwich was bland. It had no flavour and the chicken was dry. The bread was also cheap supermarket bread. Overall, a horrible experience, we were definitely ripped off. I definitely will not be visiting again. I advise you not to also.
Rio
Crap Crap Crap, I will not recommend this place nor eat here again. Food was crap and over priced. If I go out for breakfast, lunch or dinner I don't expect to get food of less quality than I would cook at home. <br/>This was a rip off, I should have read the reviews before entering the place. I'm amazed at the amount of bad reviews it gets and they still haven't done anything to improve.
Aroundthemulberrytree
Lemon Tart went straight in the bin!. Really Bad lemon Tart. Certainly not in the best category, actually I'd say that seeing as it went straight into the bin it doesn't rate at all! Lemon tart from the Bakers Oven Sydney. $8.00!!!!. Pastry 1.5cm thick and the curd was straight out of a packet I'd guess. Really disappointing. Service was rude, and feel ripped off.
Crystal0938
If I have a chioce I wouldn't go there for coffee. The brista making really bad coffee. That's all I have to say. Bad coffee!
Cadi
Doyle. What can I say I wish I had read the reviews before I went for coffee.$8 for a choc dipped shortbread biscuit and we'll over priced coffee,I have never been so ripped off for coffee and a biscuit have learnt to check out reviews beforehand
Nathan_reibelt
Second worse experience in my life. The spam bacon and over priced everything is horrible!
Good Ol Alice Kay
Keep walking as you'll find better. Food was okay though bit overpriced. What got me was the either clueless or extremely rude staff. I hadn't even been 10mins into my meal and the waiter handed me my bill already. He really needs to calm down and NOT RUSH PEOPLE! <br/>DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE
Thebrowndog
Absolute rip-off. Had a microwaved pie and a coke and it cost 17 bucks. Pretty well charged me 10 bucks just to sit down. Won't be back considering I work next door and love pies.
Melissa Loh
While service was friendly, it didn’t make up for the poor meal we were served.
Heneedsfood
Not a great deal of originality has gone into the breakfast offerings, but there's plenty to choose if you like your eggs.
Chris Pahlow
One of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. Save yourself some money and an awful time and never go here.
Efendi_373
Rude, poor service, staff have no product knowledge.. 26/10/2014 i walk in and a girl at the counter ask me what i want. as i don't event know what do they have. so i just gave her a smile and she reply me with her annoying face. i was standing there for 3 mins and ready to order or i call her to order and i still give her smile but her face still flat and replying me with loud voice. she even ask me if i need caesar dressing for my chicken caesar salad, as i didn't order chicken salad. i cant believe this cafe can hire a girl like this. she looks like working under pressure. Her name is kiki
TC
Ripped off!!. Over priced. Poor service. Apple tart $6.90 for take away and $9.90 for sitting down. All food does not have price. Small coffee $3.5 for take away and $5 for sitting down. Bad food. Dont go.
Or-GAZ-mic
Overpriced, poor service, filthy bathrooms - avoid this place at all cost! We bought a few paninis and a meat pie dish (between 4 of us) and everything was cold & bland, and the pie in particular was soggy and sub par for the price. You're better off going to a 7/11 convenience store for a four n twenty for a better feed for around a quarter of the price. Incompetent & rude staff topped off a regretful eating experience.
SezW
Absolutely disgusting service and bland food. My partner and I spent $54 on breakfast and in return we got served by a disinterested waitress who then chucked the drinks down on the table and walked off, the only one with a smile was the lady who brought out the food. The lady at the register when we paid didn't acknowledge us until it suited her and even then there was no smile, no interest and just a dirty attitude like the rest of them. The food was nothing to write home about and certainly not worth the hefty price tags. I will never return here and urge others to find another breakfast spot. What a horrible start to the day.
Stuart Penn
Awful coffee. Food very average. $3.90 for extra cheese in an omelette is a rip off, also charged $3.90 for one of tomato. NOT RECOMMENDED. Plenty of other good cafés nearby.
JNG
This place was terrible. N.... This place was terrible. <br/>Not only was the food horrible (I've tasted better from hospital cafeterias), the price was high considering the poor quality of the food. $14 for a weak Lipton tea bag and one damp & soft scone. Rip off.
Betty
Over priced, terrible food, shocking service. So terrible!! The service by the staff behind the counter was shocking, I ordered 2 slices of turkish bread with vegemite and butter and to receive 2 slices of crappy bread that wasn't turkish covered in Vegemite for the whole of Australia!
Upsydaisy
Typical of this area - average food, average service, overpriced. Took a safe option and ordered sourdough toast with jam for breakfast. It came smothered with margarine (not even nice butter which would have been more palatable). Too greasy. I suggest to ask for butter on the side. Husbans said his coffee and egg & bacon panini were "ok". We will try somewhere else for breakfast tomorrow
Yumyums
The food at this place might be acceptable for half the price, but for $18 for a Cesar salad, I'd at least expect croutons. Being from Melbourne I might be spoiled when it comes to food but I would think that it would remotely match the description in the menu. The service also left a lot to be desired so I don't plan on going back soon.
Shibata.ria
Ruined our Sydney Breakfast!!. My partner and I had the worse experience dining in Sydney. The service was desultory. I asked for tomato ketchup with my omelet and the restaurant charged me $1.00 for a pathetic sachet of ketchup that you get free at McDonald's! Added to that, there was a 3% additional charge if you were to pay with your credit card. My partner complained to the manager who responded in a condescending and negative fashion. Appalled by his attitude, my partner said he will report to a consumer watchdog authority and the manager responded with a "Happy Reporting!!!" This is a restaurant to be avoided if you don't want to ruin your holiday in Sydney!
Wreymond
Mediocre fruit salad. Just purchased a takeaway fruit salad. The display at the front showed some kiwi fruit, grapes, strawberries, melon, watermelon, etc. I actually got 7 pieces of green apple among a few pieces of melon and watermelon. I don't expect only berries, cherries, pineapple, etc, but I do expect an even mixture of ALL the fruit on offer. Not impressed.
Andrea Jeya
Horrible experience ruined my Sunday morning. The service was awful, the waiters were slow and rude. The food was mediocre. Such a disappointment
Jerry Askew
Good service and food. I've eaten here twice while in Sydney over the last week. I hadn't consulted Urban Spoon, but I'm glad that I gave the place a chance. Counter to the other reviews, I found the service friendly and the food good. On both visits, I was in a bit of a hurry, so I ordered a meat pie and chips. In both cases it was delivered promptly and at a perfect temperature to eat straight away.
Rafferty.ciara
Beware of extra charges. The cakes looked beautiful in the window but beware of the hidden charges! Staff were friendly to begin with, we were seated and ordered our coffees etc and then went to pick our cakes from the window display. We came back to the table and told the waiter which cakes we would like to order, his response was "Would you like cream or ice-cream with that?" To this we answered oh lovely we will have ice-cream. The service was quick, my mother in law ordered a strawberry milkshake which was really terrible. She said it tasted like milk and Nesquik. The worst part was the bill, way overpriced for three drinks and three cakes. They added on nearly 3 dollars each for the ice-cream which we were put under the false illusion that it came included in the price for the cakes. I questioned this with our waiter who became very defensive and stated it was on the menu even though we ordered from the window display of cakes. I then had to speak to the manager who after a lengthy conversation offered a 3 dollar discount! Not acceptable, the waiter should not have offered us extras without stating that it was infact extra!! Will not be returning or recommending to anyone in the future.

Truly terrible experience. On arrival we were seated by a very pleasant waiter and handed menus. This was to be our first and only positive experience. A second waiter then arrived within seconds to take our order. I explained that we had just been seated so would order just coffees and a glass of water for now and would need a few minutes to review then menu and make a choice. He promptly returned within moments to take our food order. Again I explained that we were not ready. He rolled his eyes and walked away. <br/><br/>Coffee arrived (which it must be said was really quite good). In 28degree heat with no sign of water we again asked for some waters but were not served. The waiter returned and took our order ( a Spanish omelette and a muesli with fruit and yoghurt). After 15 minutes and no food and still no water we again asked for some drinks. To no avail. Finally on a fourth effort the waters arrived. When the food arrived the omelette was average but without any real fault but was not up to its $19 price tag. The muesli was Bircher which unfortunately was not advertised on the menu and which I don't eat. I very politely explained that this wasn't what I ordered which was met with mass confusion. I was told the manager would not hear my complaint. After much confusion amongst the many staff I received a menu to reorder (an omelette similar to what my boyfriend had ordered to keep it simple and quick) but was told I would have to pay for the Bircher muesli which was returned untouched. I laughed and asked to speak to the manager. The waiter again went into much discussion with his colleagues and said he would see what he could do. <br/><br/>15 further minutes later my omelette came out dry and overcooked. The toast was pre buttered and cold. The tomato on the side was raw. I left most of it behind on the plate and got up to pay the bill. The muesli was removed from the bill when we received it but the $44.40 price tag represented the poorest value for money I have received in Sydney. <br/><br/>Appalling service, unjustifiably high prices and poor quality food. A very disappointing long weekend brunch. Avoid at all costs.

This is the worst cafe I have ever eaten at. Never, ever go here. I ate brunch here yesterday with three friends. All four meals were disappointing. It's extremely overpriced, which we noticed before we decided to sit down to eat, but we decided to give it a go and hope the food would be worth the exorbitant prices. It wasn't. No effort was put into presentation, it was completely tasteless, overcooked and dry. Every egg we ordered was cooked to the point where it resembles pale yellow chalk. My friend's chicken sandwich was so dry she had to drink water with every mouthful to swallow it. Another meal - a chicken, cheese, avocado and tomato melt - was just two tiny bits of cheap bread (it looked like that store brand bread that costs $1 a loaf) with a tiny bit of stuff on top. Those two tiny bits of toast cost her $20! My meal was the worst (bacon and egg panini) and I decided after one bite to send it back. I (politely) gave it back to the waitress and explained why I was unhappy with it. She gave me a filthy look and took the plate without comment. A minute later, the manager came out holding the plate and began berating me for sending the food back, telling me there was nothing wrong with it and she would not be remaking or refunding this meal. I explained again why I was unhappy and why I didn't think I should have to pay the very high price for it, and she threatened to go and get two police officers who were across the road if I didn't pay for it. I said it was my right as a customer to send a meal back if I was unhappy with it, so by all means, go and get the police. She stormed off and came back a minute later with the panini in a paper bag, shoved it in front of me and told me that I could do whatever I wanted with it, but I was paying for it regardless. I told her again that I would not be paying for it. She stormed away again. We decided to leave right away - none of my friends were keen to finish their very average food - so we asked a different waiter for the bill. The manager brought it out, told me she had taken the panini off as I had asked and that I was never welcome back here again because my attitude was 'disgusting'. I told her that I would certainly never be coming back here, paid the bill and wished her luck staying in business.

Pathetic. Service was horrible, we waited half an hour and didn't even get the pancakes we ordered. We did get a bacon and egg panini and specifically asked for a soft egg but it was hard and cold and really dry. The coffee was really good but amazingly overpriced.

Poor service, even poorer value. I last tried this place around June last year. What can I say but the service and value for money has really gone down in the last 6 years. <br/><br/>Ordered the spinach pie, it came out dry, and underdone on the plate with a measly squeeze sauce served alongside it. <br/><br/>Coffee was bitter, tasteless and overpriced.<br/><br/>The new management there are rude, abrupt and absolutely terribly hard-faced. Left a lump in my throat. Will not be returning here again, that's for sure!

Don't go here. $16 for a spinach and cheese pasty which was called calzone on the menu (I thought I had ordered a pizza I would never have ordered a $16 frozen pastry had I known), $5.50 for a luke warm coffee, $5.50 FOR A CAN OF COKE, don't waste your time going here the place is crap

Bad coffee, microwaved muffin to freshen it up, , rude service and charged an additional $1 to make up minium $10 eftpos charge

Tourist Trap. You're looking at about $8-9 per tart or cake. The Blueberry and Apple tart I had wasn't satisfactory - a lot of coconut and sugar. I overheard one of the waiters make a rude remark about one of the tables - the waiters here are probably European backpackers and appear to seem more interested in entertaining each other. I did not order anything else so can't comment on the rest of the menu. The location is good particularly if you just want to drink some tea. In summary, it's a typical tourist trap - over-priced, average food and service.

Worst dining experience in sydney. Has a cute courtyard to dine, however staff were rude, could not speak/ understand english. Food is very overpriced, after waiting an hour for our food we asked what was going on as my brothers meat pie had only came out, our order had been misplaced? as we had a show at the opera house we had to leave went to pay for the pie which tasted like a frozen pie from the oven $9.50. Absolutely disgusting experience, awful food and terrible service no apology for our order being misplaced, I work in the area and have made it clear to all work colleagues to stay clear of this place!

Terrible service, rude staff, only way the place would stay in business is my tourist business. If they had to rely on locals coming back they would be out of business!!<br/>Such a waste of money and time - they should read the reviews on here, train/replace staff and actually create a welcoming enjoyable experience.<br/><br/>Don't waste your time!

I went to Baker's Oven with five of my friends and we recieved awful service. The food was not worth the money, the staff were rude and dismissive and we had to wait a rather long time to recieve cutlery AFTER recieving our meals. I would have been very understanding had any of the staff acknowledged that we were waiting. The worst part however, was the fact that they charged us for extra items that we did not order or recieve and when we brought it to their attention the staff member took the receipt away and returned without it. We were told that the extra item was a discrepency but some of the other prices on the reciept had been incorrect and we were charged more. There was no apology or even admittance of any mistake and we were not shown any proof of prices, even when we asked to see the menu again. The way the staff handled the "discrepency" was appaling and not one aspect of my experience at this cafe was a positive one.
Dylan
Terrible service. Food was ordinary and not worth the price. Staff made a mistake with our order and overcharged us claiming it was a "discrepancy" but would not prove it with the receipt taking advantage of us because we were students. Would not recommend unless you want to get ripped off

Worst cafe I visited in Sydney. Definitely avoid. Omelette was dry without flavour and was served with raw tomato. Service was abysmal, had to ask multiple times for cutlery and water.
Nicole
Bland, overpriced food and terribly wobbly tables. The only silver lining might be their hardworking male waiter who seems to be battling a deluge of mediocrity in the workplace.

Good coffees but a little expensive for $4.50

Great service but dishes not. The food used to be great here, but lately it's just started coming out flat and dry, like a microwaved meal. Unfortunate if you come here duing peak hour too.

Had very good food with friendly and efficient service at breakfast two days on our trip to Sydney. Coffee was very good. Every place in this area of Sydney is a bit expensive, but place was among the less expensive reataurants. Saw this restaurant operating on Sunday morning (normally their busiest day) with the Sydney marathon added to the mix. It was extremely busy, but the staff handled the crowd and stress brilliantly. Had I been one of them I would have lost it. They hustled continuously and managed to keep smiling through it all. Impressive.

Best coffee. This place had the best coffee I had during my visit to Sydney. Lovely food with friendly service. Would recommend this to anyone visiting. Far better than most of the high profile tourist places.

I came to Sydney on a holiday and this was the last place I ate on my trip and I have to say by far THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. the manager was rude, arrogant and un-welcoming to a paying customer and it was a disappointing end to a good trip. I advise anyone passing by to eat somewhere else. VERY OVERPRICED!

Microwave meals. Very disappointing. Service was good but the food was dismal. I had a spinach and ricotta calzone that was the size of a deck of cards and looked like it would cost $3 at a petrol station, instead of the $16 I paid for it. The apple juice was also severely watered down. Wouldn't come here again.

LOVED IT!. My mom and I ate here for our last meal in Sydney before returning home. We loved it. The last person mentioned how expensive the coffee was but it was our experience in Sydney that most things were expensive AU$4.30 for starbucks... We shared the apple strudel, it was so good I had to order another! Last reviewer was right about the toast and our eggs came fried w/o asking us but the food was delicious overall. We also liked the homemeal scone.

Avoid!. Ate here last weekend. Sat out the back. Courtyard nice enough.<br/><br/>Coffee was very average and at $4.50 for a small cup (not a mug) was completely overpriced.<br/><br/>Breakfast was not up to scratch. No choice of bread - both our meals were served on white toast. The poached eggs and the cheese omelette that were ordered were very very plain. No cracked pepper was offered.<br/>There was a long wait for our bill although staff seem to be standing around.<br/>Avoid tourist, avoid!!
