Best bar for craft beer bar in Sydney. The regular Thursday tap takeovers are always worth attending, and it's also great to see well curated shelves of Australian distilleries behind the bar. Excellent food, with their signature Royale with Cheese being one of the best burgers in Sydney.

Each visit from LA I find my way to this gem. The perfect mix of locals and businessmen, unpretentious attitudes with a fine appreciation of craft beers at their best. Solid burger menu that doesn't disappoint, with an unexpected and excellent dumpling menu. It won't disappoint, still has the genuine feel of old school Sydney in the best of ways,

Wish we could clone this place and ship it to the coast. The friendly staff and patrons. Brilliant selection of beers and wine, felt so relaxed and will be back.

One of my favourite pubs. Best selection of craft beers around. Always has a stout or dark ale and a great cider. You can take a can home that they pour and seal at the pub! Food is great! Chips with chilli sauce, burgers, dumplings. Yummy! And...staggering distance from home.

First time at Royal Albert. Beer selection was great. One for the craft beer nerds who like their beers big and bold. Dumplings were delicious and a good change from the american cuisine that seems to be the standard fare at craft beer venues. The owner Michael is clearly passionate about craft beer and was a source of good conversation. Will look forward to coming again when visiting sydney.

I want to be inside you all day long! After experiencing so much mediocrity as a first time visitor to Surry Hills and a very rare traveller to Sydney, this WILL become a regular stop in old Sydney from here on in! Great pub, great booze! Very well done....

Nice small old pub with an interesting beer selection.  The food's mostly expensive-looking pub food (like $19 pies from Broomfields - I’ve had them elsewhere and wouldn’t pay that much) and expensive mediocre dumplings from Bamboo.

It's the holy trinity - A pub with an expansive choice of craft beers, great food and table service! Spicy wings, crinkle cut chips with curry and hearty, wholesome handcrafted Broomfield pies, plus sweet potato fries and gravy that are out of this world good.

Great selection of beers, good menu and very helpful, friendly staff. I don’t know how it took me so long to find it but I know I’ll be back. $5 schooners of beer that’s actually good during happy hour.

I can only describe the burgers as SENSATIONAL! Epically juicy and utterly delicious. I ordered the Double Royale with bacon and cheese. It was huge! Ended up sharing it. Decent beers here and staff are also lovely. Proper pub. Will be back!

The classic royale with Cheese is mouthwatering but i've recently discovered their new Asian summer menu and its incredible. The highlight has to be the Thai style lime juice and black pepper chicken salad. And with 14 taps of rotating craft beer i don't know why you would eat anywhere else? Love this joint.

Royal Albert Hotel has built a reputation as one of Sydney’s premier craft beer destinations since a shift in focus in 2012. While the craft beer part of the pub’s offering might be relatively recent, the pub itself is not.

Great pub! Really good selection of craft beer which always gets my husband's tick of approval! I liked that they had a bar and two dining areas as we were dining with a pram so appreciated the extra space!

We started with the dumpling plate which was nice but nothing amazing. I also wish they'd told us which dumpling was which rather than us having to guess. Not the best dumplings I've ever had but not terrible either.

Burgers were yum! My husband had the soft shell crab burger which was really good but quite light and not overly filling. I had the double royale with cheese and bacon and this one won in the taste stakes. Could have been a bit juicier but it was good. Chips were disappointing - tasted like they were frozen premade.

Overall a yum spot with great beers and friendly staff, just not the best food I've had

Ok let me start my saying I am completely biased about this pub. It is my favourite pub in Sydney due to its warm hospitality and the love of the mighty South Sydney Rabbitohs displayed in the pub with framed jerseys. This place is where I first sampled craft beer and it holds many great memories. The food is pretty fine too. You have the choice of Asian from the Bamboo Dumpling place connected to the back of the pub and you cannot go past the Shanghai Soup dumplings. I sometimes just come and order a few servings of those alone. I pretty much love all their food at Bamboo except for the lemongrass beef dumpling but that is just me. Now to the dude food. The Royale with cheese is their most well known burger and it is pretty sensational however I recently discovered the Albert cheeseburger and fell in love. An American style cheeseburger with is simple but delicious. Yet to try their hotdog range but they look tasty. The pulled pork burger is a favourite of one of my good friends, she pretty much orders it every time we eat here. Great supporter of the booming Australian love of craft beer and craft spirits.

Found this place on the fatties burger appreciation society page and stoked that it was on there. Tiny little old Victorian style pub with a few locals. I was warmly greeted by the waitress and I believe she could feel my anticipation of my eagerness to get into one of their burgers. She said her favourite was the cheeseburger which led to much contention between her colleagues but she said the Royale was the most popular. I went with the crowd favourite of the Royale with the hot mustard sauce. On the burgers arrival I was greeted with a mouth watering delight. Good size burger with the meatiest of patties, complimented nicely with cheese. salad and a crispy sweet bun. I think what really takes it over the line is the tangy mustard orange sauce.
The chips were a great side but as I had barely breathed in devouring the burger there sadly wasn't any room for the chips. Great burger place in the heart of the city

I’d heard good things about the Royal Albert Hotel but never had the opportunity to visit until my most recent visit to Sydney. The place has been around since 1927, and today is home to some of the best craft beer in Sydney across its 14 taps.

Pull up a seat in the front bar of this Surry Hills hideaway and order one of their tasty beers. There's a good selection available here, including a couple of 'hand pump' brews. The hotel has stood unpretenciously here for many years, playing home to the workers who moved into the area in the early part of the twentieth century and continued to serve the locals until this day.

Obviously taking it's name from Pulp Fiction, the burger reminded me of what that movie's "Big Kahuna Burger" looked like and (may have) tasted like. Basically, it was one nasty little greaseball! No beating around the bush, the burger was tasty.

Visited for lunch on Thursday 3rd March. I walked in off the street and was fascinated by this unique pub. Quirky interior decor and friendly happy staff make this an ideal place to have a meal and drink a few beers. I had a chilli sauce squid , which was delightful and my friend ate a brisket meat pie which was perfect. I will return. You must visit this pub !!!

Great staff, delicious food. So many tasty vegetarian options! I wasn’t mad on the cocktail but I think that’s just personal taste! Defo worth a visit if you’re in Surry hills!

Great range of craft beers and the house hazy was outstanding. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the overall vibe is excellent, with indoor, semi- outdoor and street seating. My only area for improvement was the food, which was adequate bit not overly impressive for the price. Recommend? Hell yeah, but more for the craft beer than the food.

I accidentally came across the Royal Albert Hotel while I was out in Surry Hills the other weekend and didn't expect my night to be so great after a bad day. A big shout out to the bartender, Jenny, who went the extra mile to make sure my friends and I had a great experience. Not only did she make a killer cocktail, but she was always smiling, super friendly, and an absolute gem. I would go back there JUST for her incredible service.

Wanted a quiet drink with a couple of friends in Surry Hills while on a visit to Sydney. Other pubs in the area were nuts busy and really noisy because it was game night. Found this little neighbourhood pub and it was exactly what I was looking for. Friendly staff, very pleasant house sauv blanc, and lovely vibe. This is a gem of a pub.
