Review Paul's Famous Hamburgers - Sylvania

Been meaning to try this local favourite for a while. Staff were friendly and service was fast. Burgers were generously sized and nice and saucy! Chips were crispy! Not much more you could want from a burger joint. Place is pretty popular but the queue moves pretty fast. Definitely worth a visit if in the area. Cash only so make sure you're prepared.

Simply irresistible, burgers were great, I had the hot chicken 🐔 burger and add on bacon, and even their normal chicken burger were as good . their effort and their product had live up to their name, we cannot rate on the services as it was self serve, OH Yes. Remember to grab their pineapple crush. The prices were fair and honest. Great job guys.

This well known, no-frills burger joint offers old fashioned burgers that taste satisfyingly good. Being no-frills, the burgers start with a simple sesame seed bun with beef (or chicken) patty, adds lettuce, onion and tomato sauce, and you can get different combinations of extras like bacon, egg and cheese in your burger. Prices are so-so for a no frills burger joint and it's cash only (although there's a generic ATM in store). On top of the various burgers and fries, their drinks include pineapple crush which is refreshing and popular. It's very popular with lines running outside the outlet almost all the time. This makes social distancing difficult and half the staff don't wear facemasks. There's no indoor dining (which is used for queuing and ordering only), but there's some outdoor tables available.

Lives up to its name. A burger (we got the hamburger with pineapple) is larger than the sum of its simple ingredients. Live that the buns are regular burger buns and not squishy brioche. Serving size is standard. We shared one to two adults! The burger was balanced, not overtly heavy, filling and moreish. Be prepared with CASH! Do try the pineapple crush that comes in 2L/1L/glass options. Super refreshing after a day in the sun! Moderate wait time, the staff are super efficient, massive team forming a grill assembly line. Recommend sharing large serving of chicken salt chips!

A bit of a lunch time line up but with the pre ordering in the queue makes it fairly efficient. Famous works burger with added beetroot - the patty is tasty and ingredients are just as they are. Note that they are cash only. Would eat again.

This is the best burger I've ever. Yet the most simple. No wonder they're are world famous burgers. The simple combination of lettuce tomato cheese and a juicy patty with what I believe the best tomato sauce ever creates a delight in the mouth. I love the old school style milkshakes, the homemade pineapple juice and even the small touch of glass coke bottles. The service is amazing as a young 20 year old I have never got to witness a old school burger shop until now. I have recommended this to everyone in Sydney or who is going to Sydney

Famous burger. Famous Paul. Paul burger. Burger Paul. Burger famous. Paul famous. If you're into any of those things, you'll really like the service here. Knowledgeable, quick and cash only. Very important offerings in the burger famous world. Probably even Paul famous.

this place has one of the best chips in Sydney not just a burger however it was quite disappointed in our last visit. it was soaggy eventhough we open it straight away. I think its not cook well enough. We were happy to drive 1hr return trip to have one of the best chips but yeh...now we are using airfry to make it crispy..lol

Paul's Hamburgers (undeserving of the title famous) was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I've ever had.

To start with, the staff are uninviting and do not seem to appreciate any customer that walks in. They're also only a cash only business, and want you to withdraw cash from their conveniently placed ATM (which you need to pay a fee for). They do this undoubtedly under the guise of maintaining an (old fashion) style of Business, however it would truthfully be to escape taxes. They may suggest to do a pickup order on uber eats or Menulog, but the cost of items are doubled.

The only reason I haven't given it 1 star is because the food itself is reasonably priced, and most menu items are under $10.

The food itself is extremely distasteful, the chips are undercooked and unsalted. The burgers are extremely disappointing, the produce tastes old and the meat is clearly frozen and unseasoned. They don't toast the buns enough, so the burger goes soggy. Finally I'd also recommend not to get "Paul's special sauce" on the burgers, it's awful.

The restaurant is covered in faded and old newspapers (none newer than 2015 from my observation) about awards Paul's Hamburgers has won. And whilst some of the pre-2010 newspapers are interesting to see, they show that Paul's truly has fallen behind and become lazy.

If you're around the area, I'd highly recommend Sylvania Family Indian restaurant, Elate Gyros Souvlaki bar, or Tom Ugly's Kebabs. Until the team at Paul's puts effort and love back into their work, it's simply a waste of money.

FINALLY - The staff had no contract tracing in place for dine in orders, did not social distance, did not ask customers to social distance, and were not visibly keeping sanitary. All the more reason to avoid it, especially during COVID.

An excellent old skool style tuck shop burger with classic style fair dinkum burgers at a reasonable price. Delicious and fresh! Definitely recommended!!!

Bang for buck, best burgers in Sydney. I've tried a lot of burgers in the recent past but this chilli chicken burger was the best I've had by far. Add bacon and the flavors just ooze out. Moist, succulent and really tender. I was amazed by it! The fries tasted exceptional too. I love the portions. Truly a fan.

Wonderful old fashioned flavours. I had the Famous Works Hamburger and my husband the Chicken Works burger, we shared some chips. We both thought that the burgers were wonderful and the chips were cooked perfectly. Something that cannot be found in today's modern boutique burger places. Truly great old fashioned flavours. I also loved the fresh pineapple juice. Fast, efficient, service. We walked into a crowded store. Within a couple of minutes our order was taken, and by the time we reached the cash register, our order was ready and the customers were lined up out of the shop and down the street. We sat down at one of the tables outside and had a great meal. We highly recommend Paul's Famous Burgers

A couple of things stand out here.....consistent quality, fresh ingredients, a trademark flavour, hot and delicious food. I live in Melbourne now but the burgers and chips taste the same as they always have since I moved from Sydney 17 years ago. I always make an effort to go here when I'm in town, The value is exceptional.

Burgers are fresh however nothing exciting. Pineapple juice here is good. Lots of parking around the side. Long line on weekends. Take your burger and eat it at the water. Approx 5 min walk.

The Works at Paul's Famous Hamburgers is the thoroughly Aussie burger. It's was countless other places try to copy and pull off but time and time again fail. Which is quite odd because it's not a complex recipe but Paul's just knows how to put it together better than anyone else!

Their burger is everything you expect it to be and for that price and absolute bargain! The milkshakes aren't some crazy gourmet affair and we're a little too light on the flavour for me but when they come out to be the size of my forearm, there isn't too much to complain about.

So are they the BEST burger in Australia? Well at the very least they're a top contender for the spot and anyone who cares about burgers owes it to themselves to try Paul's out.

Service: Fast, order taken while in line and food ready by the time I reached counter.

Food: Tried the beef and cheese burger with special sauce - the sauce I think made it quite sloppy and falling apart, so it was messy to eat. Hot chips with chicken salt = the bomb and by bomb I mean the potato taste was strong. And generous amount for small.

Came down from the inner west to try these famous burgers! Boy I was impressed by “The Lot” and it’s succulent flavours! Will definitely be back sometime soon. Keep up the good work guys :)
The Violet
I have to say I’m not a burger person, but I LOVE the burger the lot from Paul’s! It’s a well known burger place in the shire and the food has never disappointed me. Parking is easier than you think. There are a few under the bridge, near the beach, as well as the back streets. If you are travelling from the shire towards Hurstville, then be mindful that the exit to the beach parking is on your right just before the bridge!

The bread is very thin and melt in the mouth, it holds up the ‘lot’ perfectly, no mess! Beef patty is juicy and tender, there is right ratio/amount of all the different ingredient. BTW, beetroot is optional. Pineapple juice is sooooo refreshing! Be warned, the Lot is biiiiiig. It only takes couple of minutes to smash it, so satisfying and delicious!

It has its unique ordering system. Grab your drinks from the fridge (pineapple juice is in the small fridge near the refrigerator. There is staff near the menu taking orders of your burgers only. Then, they will pass it onto the kitchen immediately. By the time you walk up to the cashier (1 meter away), your burger is ready!!! Grab a pineapple juice and pay for both your drinks and burgers at the cashier. CASH ONLY.

There are a few tables and chairs outside, or you can walk down to the beach to enjoy the burger in the ocean/river breeze.

I was really impressed by how they took my order at the start of the queue and then it was ready shortly after I reached the cashier. The beef was noticeably more tender, less greasy, and less overcooked than a typical milk bar burger. It might not compete with the trendiest places but it’s cheaper - even with the works option that stretches out the standard buns a bit too much - and is the best of this type of burger that I’ve had. The milk shake was also nice and thick.

How I am almost 44 and have never been here. Uncomplicated burger old school style. Juicy meat patty which runs down your hand. Got to love that.

Possibly the best “Classic” burger shop in Sydney and I do mean classic. Sometimes simple is best and that’s What Paul’s has been doing for decades and of ain’t broke, don’t fix it....
Angehaha
Great burger!
Great price!
Paul’s Famous Burgers is a well known, family run institution. Old school burgers with lots of flavour and at a good price.
The meat patty is juicy and tasty. The burger is well constructed and keeps together nicely.

They keep the menu simple and seem happy to adjust orders slightly as needed. Always a queue but it quickly moves as the kitchen operates like an assembly line to smash about the burgers. I’ve been here a number of times and it is consistently good.

A bit of outdoor seating. But a few parks around if there are no seats available.
Steve Tici
Pretty disappounting to be fair but not pertaining to the food. The food is outstanding, the burgers are a highlight. Reason why I didn't like the experience is no cards available for payment. This is truly infuriating, particularly the price you pay for the food. At least offer a card payment as well, the ATM there charges an excess fee.

If your gonna charge a high price for the food, at least allow card payment over the counter, it's so simple. I was a bit short on cash so had to go to Sylvania shops to withdraw, which is immensely frustrating cause I'm not gonna waste money withdrawing on crappy excess fees and I'm sure most customers don't want to either.
Hayley
This time we came with cash (they do cash only, but has an atm on site). A long wait out the door, but such efficient service. Got our meal in less than 10 minutes.

Both got the worker’s burger and boyfriend added a meat patty. The burger is big and full of fresh veggies, with egg and pineapple. The beef patty is thick, and the boyfriend really liked it. However i was sick and couldnt taste very much, but it’s delicious to me nonetheless.

It’s cheap, filling, delicious and fast. I have nothing to complain about :)
They deserved all the awards they listed on the wall.

I was never a beef burger person. But I do love burgers. I always go for the chicken burgers. Too many “beef-is-not-good-for-you” remarks from the elders, probably made me stay away from it. Until I have tasted Paul’s Famous Hamburger.. Yep, you’ve read that right – hamburger! I rarely see that in a menu these days. It’s usually just burger.
Rakelg
love this little joint so much! my family has been going here for years especially on the way back from the beach. their burgers and chips are so good for a reasonable price, and don't forget to try some of their fresh pineapple juice as well - love it

If you want a straight up, 1980's local milkbar burger with none of that fancy hipster burger rubbish then Paul's is your place. The burgers here take you bad m to a good place where the burgers were simple and chips came wrapped in yesterday's newspaper.

The burgers are great. A solid base of meat, lettuce, tomato and raw onions on a Aussie style sesame bun. After that, you choose how fancy you go with cheese, bacon, egg, pineapple and sauce.

The fresh pineapple juice is a must. It tastes like blended canned pineapples, chunks and all, but still awesome.

Grab some chips and two tubs of special sauce. Why two? One just isn't enough!

The staff are really friendly. Seating is only outside so it can be tough. Walk down under the bridge for some good views and a quiet spot to eat.

Have been back heaps!
Sweetandyummie
If you want a juicy soft tradtional milkbar hamburger then your at the right place. Ive been going here since the 90's ...and this place has been around longer than that.... everything on the menu is great and make sure you bring cash otherwise your gonna be ripped off by the private atm that sits in the corner.
Nicole Stout
Nice place that serves burgers at a reasonable price. It's located a short walk from the bay so you can take your burger, chips and milkshake and eat it with a view ! The burgers itself are ok. I found mine had too much sauce which meant all my ingredients were sliding off- too which my friends agreed. It also meant a few minutes in my burger buns were totally soggy... it was horrible. The meat itself is overcooked . This place is nice but definitely overrated . I wouldn't go back. The only thing exciting about it is the fact it's supposed to be famous and raved about
Missklicious
Sometimes you just want to ditch the fancy gourmet burgers and have an old school milk bar style burger with the lot. This is where Paul's Famous Hamburgers in Sylvania, a Sydney institution that has been around since 1957, comes into the picture. . I'd say the tag of best burger in Sydney is a long bow to draw, considering the competition out there these days and the high standard of burgers on offer in Sydney. I definitely wouldn't call this the best burger, in Sydney but there is something charming about this slightly run shopfront, that appears to have remained the same over the years. On the day we visit, Paul is walking around and clearing the tables.
Leon
Paul's Famous Hamburgers have been tickling our tastebuds for more than 6 decades and I must say their signature burgers are probably the best which I've tried in Sydney. Juicy, succulent and flavourful, it has everything which makes a burger delightful. And it costs significantly cheaper than those pretentious burger bars in CBD. Try Paul's and you will ditch your Mary's, Rockpool or Bar Luca!

Really great old school style milk bar burgers. Lovely pineapple juice but would have liked it a bit more chilled. Service was great and food was served quickly.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
These are your typical, old school milkbar/burger shop burgers. The ones that come with iceberg lettuce, tomato, pineapple, beetroot, fried egg, bacon and charred beef patty. No fancy sauces or toppings but they do have pineapple crush, a sweet refreshing drink.
Johnny Pan
Been wanting to try this place for a while now as well and can finally tick it off the list. Got the works and although there is no unique flavoured sauce in this one like a lot of the other popular ones in the exploding burger scene, it had all the right ingredients that perfectly complimented each other in a great quality burger that didn't leave you feeling too heavy. The pineapple juice was also fresh and highly refreshing
Princess Greedy Guts
This is a Sydney institution & the lines out the front of this unassuming place is proof. The burgers and chips are classic, traditional milk bar burgers. The Paul's special - classic beef burger with bacon & egg is a manly size especially with the addition of cooked onion (great touch) & beetroot. The pattie is clean tasting & the whole burger not overly oily. The egg was a little overcooked & dry and there was a lack of cheese in my burger. The chips were hot, fresh & crunchy & so addictive with that obligatory chicken salt. Milkshakes come in 17 flavours & again are the classic shakes with milk & syrup. The pineapple crush is another signature of their which is popular & a more refreshing choice to have with the burgers. Overall a fun experience.
Brutal_AF
Tried their plain beef burger (lettuce, tomatoe, beef patty and tomatoes sauce). Was nice but nothing wow. Chips were cooked fresh though coated with a nice dusting of chicken salt. Was interesting drinking the pineapple juice. Kind of reminded me of tin crushed pineapple, but as a drink. Pricing is fair, burgers are done simple and many locals regularly eat here. May be famous but not the most outstanding in my opinion.
Ebonyandlace
I like Paul's burgers. I especially like the chicken burger with the lot. So good. Peanut butter smoothie is not as heavy as it sounds đŸ‘đŸ» The pineapple crush is also excellent especially on a hot day. Bliss. Too bad it's an hours drive away.
FeedMe
I had great expectations for Pauls but I was sadly disappointed.Maybe they were famous before the burger explosion started in Sydney, but now, with so much competition creating amazing burgers, they are far from what I would call famous or great.
Why__dee
Best burgers in the shire! You can choose what goes into your burger and their special sauce is on point đŸ‘ŒđŸ» don't forget to get their pineapple juice! I hate anything pineapple but this pineapple juice is out of this world ! Chips are crunchy and addictive too!

Eating this burger was more disappointing than when Poland checked the weather in 1939 and found a 100% chance of Heil. In fact it was such a disappointment that I had to go twice just to remind myself how blessed all the days I don't eat this burger are.
Belly Rumbles
There are better burgers to be had in the area. Sadly they really are over hyped for what they are, which is nothing spectacular. The "famous" is a legacy from the original owners many moons ago.
Jason Lee
Big, juicy burger for around $10. Had the famous works and it was amazing. You can add extras like sauce, onions, and beetroot for free. There is a waiting line but they take your order. Also the fresh pineapple juice was a delight. Wouldn't recommend the milkshakes, pretty standard.
Barbara K
I live nowhere near sylvania but it's totally worth the trip for one of these beauties.
So juicy, so fresh, so delicious.
Get it with the lot
Jay Aka Areacritic.
Tbh this place is very overhyped by its name of its "famous burgers" maybe a fair few years ago, because i didnt find them that different in taste and quality to any local corner take away milk bar which i think that its the mince meat there using which reminds me of the samr milk bar burgers you can order eveywhere locally, not a repeat fan and i wouldnt be waiting in that long weekend que line anytime soon guys, id prefer to visit 'grilled' or 'burgerlicious'
Anna & Phillip | Snap.Eat.Share
Everything from this place is old school - from the decor, the menu signage to the paper milk shake cups. Even the orders are still taken with pen and paper; no electronic touch pads here! It's got the proper milk bar/takeaway vibe and we love it!.
The Hungry Hippo
Sydney's best burgers??? I really don't think so. Nothing special about their burgers. Ingredients don't look fresh. Burgers look ugly. Yes they're big but big doesn't replace taste. Their not even busy. During the lunch peak. They might have a small group of customers but for the most part it's empty. Zero customers for hours. Most of the time you will see staff (2 people) just hanging out outside, but I don't blame them since there aren't any customers.

Best burgers?? Yeah maybe 50 years ago. Plus the place could use a makeover. It's aged and so has the kitchen equipment. Plenty of modern burger joints beats this place hands down. Maybe the best burgers in the area but that's not saying much cause there aren't any in the area. Plus it's hard to find parking so I suggest don't even bother. Sorry just being honest.
Kayla
Very efficient and great burgers ! Love the chilli chicken burger and the pineapple crush:) the portion is big and the meat is juicy and tender . It's my weekly routine to visit Paul's burger for a yummy chilli chicken burger :)
HungryasFork
Breaking paleo for the MOST GLORIOUS HAMBURGER in the history of EVER! ✹
Ordered up 2 x Special Burgers and a plain Ol' burger!
A classic burger place that doesn't try to be anything but a burger place! They've perfected their production line so you're not left waiting forever and a day just to eat a burger that's completely sloppy and flavourless!
Their meat patty is packed full of flavour, buns taste FRESH, fillings are incredibly decent with no extra charge when you want to add or minus things from it 😁 Seriously, it's THAT good!
Mrs Steal Yo Food
If you love yourself a ginormous, juicy, greasy, super saucy burger, this place is for you. The fries here are the best fries I've had. There were no soggy fries; all of them were cooked evenly and gave a crunch.

The only thing I would improve here are their burger buns as they look and feel like regular store-bought/fish&chip ones that could be more soft/moist/fluffy. Not a big deal to me.

Many other burger joints are trying to make their burgers fancy with extra odd ingredients. There's something very down to earth/simple about these burgers which I enjoy very much, especially after fishing or swimming.
Peanutbutter&jelly
I got the pineapple burger and it was pretty good. The burgers themselves are very basic but the ingredients were very fresh and balanced. The patty was pretty outstanding and I loved that it wasn't dry at all. The star of the show was the pineapple crush. Delicious!
If you ever rock up and see a massive line at this place don't freak out they are so fast and take your order before you even get to the counter. Definitely efficient.
Onara
As far as a classic Aussie burger goes, they don't come much better than Paul's. Brisk service, fresh buns, tasty meat, and the special sauce is out of this world
KAYEATS
Best hamburger place. Family run restaurant, fresh ingredients and friendly staff. Lucky it's only a one minute walk from my house. Their never ending lines on the weekend says it all. Best hamburger place in Sydney!
Tlcallaghan
If you don't like these burgers, then you just don't like burgers.. A lot of places have just a good burger... These guys have a burger that will match anywhere else (or better)... but also have awesome chips and milkshakes! This is one of those places where you are full but you're just happy to keep eating because your mouth agrees with what's going on
FoodsterAu
For my birthday I decided to go kayaking and then stop off at Paul's Famous Hamburgers for a late lunch. It's something I've been wanting to try but never really made the effort, or mores never been in the area.

We arrived at the store around 2pm and there was still a line out the door. Most people don't even eat there and opted for the takeaway option leaving plenty of spare seats for us.

A girl walks down the line and takes your order so that by the time you reach the front, you’re order is ready to go. The system is very efficient BUT if you’re a first timer, you have no real chance to peruse the menu and are somewhat forced to make a quick decision. Also they only accept cash but offer an ATM service inside.

We ended up ordering Paul’s Famous Hamburger, a chilli chicken burger, a side of small fries (I seem to have lost that photo), a litre of Pineapple Crush and their special sauce to dip our chips.

The Paul's Famous burger tasted very home-made, very fresh and their sauce in the burger made it all work so well. Either that or all that rowing really drew up an appetite. The bites of burger without the sauce really showed the burger lacking in taste on its own. The chicken burger was nothing fancy. It was decent, but the spice wasn’t strong enough and the chicken was slightly dry.

The dipping sauce was another star. The chips were nice and heavily salted with chicken salt.

The pineapple crush was fresh. Very pulpy
BUT it wasn’t cold enough. That was my only gripe.. They also had plenty of drink choices and shakes
which looked very interesting.

I don’t know would I purposely make the journey out here to try but if I’m in the area
I’d be keen on giving it another go

The Set Menu
A stupefying variety of meaty sandwiches are listed for choosing, but your choice is basically reduced to a traditional beef burger, or a few chicken alternatives. Both of these come with lettuce and tomato, with the option to upgrade the beef version with cheese, bacon, egg and various other ingredients. What’s more, several additions are completely free: beetroot, cooked onion and a plethora of sauces, including Paul’s “special” garlic aioli sauce.
Oh Burger Me
The chicken burger was my favourite. A huge amount of mayo and cheese, with a not-too-thick piece of chook, a sweet chunk of pineapple, egg and bacon which together tasted about a million times better than it sounds.

Continuing the journey in Sylvania last week, we arrived 10mins early to Seven Lantern and we saw this burger joint next to it was packed with people queueing! I was curious how good is the burger and it's weird that I heard about it before. As we dine in Seven Lantern, I asked my friend if the burger next door any good and he said yes. Bebski then told me to get the Burger while we're in Sylvania. Cause it is far from our house and we wouldn't be back anytime soon just for a burger. So I decided to get one and try. Good thing that Bebski realized that they close at 7PM. It was unbelievable that there's a food business that closes during peak dinner hours. I went there, with no cash with me but luckily they provide their own ATM machine inside. Haha! A giant sign of their menu was displayed behind the ATM and a lady approached me asking what would I like to order. I asked her what's the popular dish in here and she recommended 'The Works', so I got one of those and also the Chilli Chic
Ilovemyfoodlots
So if you're heading down south, give this place a go. The prices are extremely decent and the ingredients are fresh. It's been voted as one of Sydney's best burgers.
Michelle.w090
If you guys have never had the pineapple crush at Paul’s Hamburgers, you MUST go and try!!! It is THE BEST! We skipped the burgers as we were still quite full, we’ve had them before and knew I’d regret it if we did share one. They taste standard but greasy so we gave it a miss. We got a 1L bottle of pineapple crush and a small chips to share.
Darryl Lin
here is nothing fancy about the hamburger; just a plain old burger with meat patty, egg, lettuce and tomato slices. However, that being said, there are not many of such greasy-spoon style hamburger joints around the CBD area, which made the experience rather special.
Natalie
The Plain Hamburger was an excellent example of an Aussie fish 'n chip shop burger. The bun was fresh, it had plenty of salad and sauce, and the meat was well seasoned.
Belly Rumbles
Paul’s is a busy place. On the weekends people are lined up out the door. Don’t let this factor deter you from a visit as the line moves quickly, their system runs like clockwork. Your order is taken while you are in line. By the time you reach the counter your food has been freshly prepared by the assembly line of six people. You pay, collect your food and then you are out the door on your way. There are a few tables out the front if you wish to eat there. Alternatively you can walk down to a small park under Tom Ugly’s Bridge and sit on the grassy banks of the Georges River as you eat. Or you can do what we did, as we live locally, take it home.
Jobe
These are takeaway shop burgers done really well and with really clean flavours and at a reasonable price
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Yep, it's another burger fix. I have been quite in the mood for them lately - after all, corner-store hamburgers are a pleasurable childhood memory, but nostalgia doesn’t always taste like it used to. Unless you chance upon a store like this one - and don

Double Beef Burger with Bacon. Was absolutely delicious, piping hot patties with melted cheese, bacon, tomato, shredded lettuce, toasted burger buns, I asked for grilled onions and they were happy to do it, I chose BBQ as the main sauce.

8.5/10 Great!
Miss Deliziosa
Service was good, you order in the line & the food is ready by the time you reach the counter to pay. Burgers are big, juicy & flavoursome (just like how old milk bars would make them). Had the works burger, chicken burger, chips & the peanut butter shake....enjoyed them thoroughly but unfortunately was not able to eat it all because it was just too big a serving for me. It's not a gourmet type of burger but if you are after the old school no frills type this is your place to go.
Marlz
If this place is famous it would have to be for bad service! Girl that served us wasn't at all friendly, we were made feel like we were an inconvenience to her day! Burgers were sloppy! Will never waste my time here again
FoodPorn
NOP. No way...you get what you pay for, this place is poor,
Ronin47
Good quality, efficient production. This place has a lot of hype - bit sad since this quality of burger used to be very commonplace in Australia. Paul's runs as a very efficient machine with staff in polo shirts instead of a greasy old guy in a stained apron. The burgers are not unique - they're just big and good quality. Chips are the same as millions of places. The pineapple crush is er, pineapple juice with lots of pulp. However, when you put the whole package together on a rainy day, great stuff. The popularity of this place should not be dismissed. If you're coming from the north and headed back north, best to park across on the other side and walk across the pedestrian bridge - lots more parking over there.
Sydneyguyrojoe
Whats the fuss?. When they say they are famous, its actually true!! Sometimes you see lines going almost around the corner to have there burgers, and the place is very limited parking too

My friend loves this place, i went with other friends and found it nothing special!! Is it because they dont make burgers like this anymore? That milk bars have disappeared?

Also tried there pineapple drink which was a little overpowering

My friends agree with me, whats the fuss? Still they must be doing something right to have a lot of loyal followers......

Peanut Butter Milkshake. The burgers are brilliant (especially with a little bacon), and the chips are good too but the peanut butter milkshake is the definite stand out.

A burger to travel for. Having grown up with Pauls Hamburgers just down the road I kinda took it for granted how good they really are.

Now that I've moved away from the area and sampled other hamburgers I can honestly say that Pauls is still the best bang for your buck burger going around and one I happily keep coming back to
NiCd
Best hamburgers in Sydney!. As someone that travels quiet a bit I am always on the lookout for great "fast food" that doesn't taste like it. This is one of my favorites, the burgers and chips are better than that of anywhere.

Also recommend trying the special sauce with the chips and the pineapple juice.
Zebedee
Great burgers. Can see why this place is always listed as one of Sydney's best burgers. burgers were great, chips were great. best burger i have had in a long time.
Vegan_joey
I had the burger with cheese and hot chips. The burger was the best I've tried in a long time and the chips were nice and crunchy the way I like it and highly recommend the pineapple crush. Delicious !!
Eric
Would have been better had I remembered to add cheese to my special! :-P
Marianne Yacoel
Don't be put off by the long line - it moves quickly and it's an awesome burger. Don't forget to get the pineapple juice!!

Worth the wait. The long line is an indication of the quality of Paul's burgers
Chatted to the owner while waiting out the front, who was sitting relaxed watching people line down the streets and talking about how much the business has grown
Delicious burgers!!!! Plenty of scenic places around there to sit and eat

Decent but not fantastic. I went to Paul's with high expectations from the rave online reviews and countless local praise they've garnered as a Shire institution.

Their menu is humble hamburger fare; none of the fancy schmancy gourmet stuff that's so popular (and that I love) these days. The menu consists of hamburger with extras like cheese, bacon, egg and pineapple. They do a grilled chicken burger but I didn't sample it.

It was lunchtime on a Friday but wasn't particulary busy, just a few customers before and after me.

I ordered a cheeseburger with their special sauce and small chips with chicken salt.

My first bite into the burger and I have to say, I wasn't blown away by it, like I was expecting. The ingredients were fresh, you get tomato, sliced iceberg lettuce and onion. The special sauce was good but not amazing. The bun was your standard Tip Top bun with sesame seeds. The best part of the burger was thankfully the patty. It was juicy, simply seasoned and easily melted in my mouth, which I haven't experienced before.

The small chips are quite substantial and can easily feed two.

On the whole, it was a decent burger. I live nearby so it wasn't a big deal to get there for a nice Friday lunch. However, I don't get why people would travel from all over Sydney for it. Good burgers, yes. Great, drive for ages and ages burgers, no. Would I go again? Yes I would but only because it's local.

It's An Aussie Burger, Nothing More. They are indeed famous and have been around a long, long time. but all I care is how the burgers taste. In the last 5-6 years, as more and more Australians travel to the US, burgers in Sydney have improved over the old tuck shop 'burger with the lot'. Unfortunately this is THE epitome of 'burger with the lot'. The patty tastes like it has binders, it falls apart, it's messy and not very beefy - it's a meatloaf sandwich, not a burger! I had to travel far to try this, and I would never be able to justify it again.

Verdict: I have bad news to all my friends in the South. These burgers are not good. On the plus side, it's cheaper than a Big Mac, but spend the extra and get a Big Mac. I can't see how this is any different to any other tuck shop burger, or the cheap ones they serve in country towns.

Score: 46/100 [F] [Reference: In-N-Out is a 90]
Value: Okay - You get what you pay for.
Time of Visit: Summer 2012
Number of Visit(s): 1

Best Burgers in Sydney. In the Sydney basin there is truly no better burger bar than Pauls Hamburgers. The burgers are cooked to perfection and the quality assurance and attention to detail the staff members give to the orders is second to none.

In a day and age where servings sizes are downsizing to cut costs, it is so refreshing to be confronted with a Pauls Burger in the original size that burgers should be, not to mention the fact that they are absolutley delicious!

I've grown up on Pauls "special" washed down with their pineapple juice which is so thick it's almost a meal in itself. Sitting under the bridge on a nice day us a delight. Whilst I'm all for tradition in burgers, Pauls could modernise itself a little by accepting eftpos instead of cash only.

For Sydney and it's surrounding suburbs it seems to be hard to find a good hamburger, unfortunately Paul's is the best I have found but it still has nothing on the burgers you find in little family owned corner shops in the Hunter Valley. My burger was soggy, and a little on the expensive side. I have only heard good things about Paul's so I will give it another go just incase I got a bad example.

Heaps of ppl lining up! Bit bigger then a big Mac and cheap price of $5.50. Can sit under the bridge and enjoy :)

Cheap and yummy. Hamburger with pineapple and possibly bacon are my faves. If you can find a better, cheaper ($4.20!!!) tastier, more filling burger I'd like to see it!
