Review Catalpa Cafe - Tarrington

Great place especially the town at this time of year with all the hay bales as per the picture is just one of many on display

This Café/Restaurant served as the perfect meeting spot, about 1 hour's pleasant drive from Ararat and Warrnambool. The menu had plenty of chef prepared meals on offer (the beef cheeks w/ mash and greens delectable!). This country hub is the full package with in-house made desserts and slices, coffee, tea and wine list. Fantastic hospitality and attention by front-of-house and wait staff. Highly recommended!

Had fantastic service at this cafe. Purchased some great local artwork and had some of the best fried chips I’ve had anywhere. Being vegan the menu was a little tricky but the young woman attending us made life so easy and answered all my questions. The gnocchi isn’t made with eggs but it does contain cheese for those wondering :) I had a soy coffee (they have almond also), the bruschetta without feta (who doesn’t love tomatoes on toast) and the chips and sauce which were crunchy and yum. Our tables water was never empty long, they had stubby holders for their beers and the courtyard out the back made for a lovely outdoor dining experience. Would happily go back if asked again by family.

Great place to stop and relax in the beer garden, food is pricey for the portion size, but its fresh and the place is clean Good place for Car Clubs as lots of open air parking available.

We were pleasantly surprised with how great the meals were here. It's the only shop front in town, and doesn't look like much, but the chef is doing a wonderful job. A little on the pricey side, $25-35 for a main, but well worth it ... There was nothing left on our plates. Amazingly, for a place virtually in the middle of nowhere, it seems worth it to make a reservation. Most tables were booked when we arrived. I guess word is out! I dropped a star because the decor was a bit drab, but I'm sure they're working on it. The place has real potential. Everything else was splendid, well done.

Lovely lunch. Good service. And the three of us also enjoyed the hay bales in Tarrington. Will be back in 2021 with our Probus group.

Who would have thought you would find food of this quality in such a remote location. I’ve been to this cafe a number of times over the last few years and have always been happy with the food and service. They have a number of different areas too which suit either a couple of people, a large crowd and there’s an outside area if the weather is good too.
