Delicious food, fast service and great atmosphere
This is a great option for both take away and sit in. Many different delicious dishes from Curry’s, to salt and pepper squid. The rice is also amazing
Mangosteen is a beautiful restaurant with very friendly staff. I have been here quite often.
Positives would be the tasty meals and affordable prices. I highly recommend the Choo Chee Chicken.
My negatives is the smaller portion sizes of late, and I do not recommend the Laksa. Does not taste authentic. Meals generally seem quite westernised.
I suggest booking a table for Friday and Saturday nights.
Nice place but very westernised. The flavours were decent will comment that the prawns in the Cashew Prawn dish were very decent size and quite tasty. BBC was good, had some nice chilli.
Service wasn't too bad, though asking for recommendations from the menu u got "everything is good" to "I don't eat seafood I don't know". The atmosphere had potential but lacking a bit on music especially when they've gone for a themed look go all out I say! May return in the warmer months :)
Fusion Asian (Thai, Khmer , Vietnamese , Malaysian, Indian) .. The foods were delicious! Not authentic but delicious! The atmosphere and decors felt like being in a Thai restaurant in Thailand! Lovely service and $15 corkage fee 👯
On site parking & a lovely building with an enclosed verandah/annex with high ceilings & interesting light fittings. We made a last minute booking on a Saturday night (rang at 7.30pm for an 8pm table for two). It was a hot day but the room was cool & the drinks were cold. With plenty of staff, the service was attentive but the room can get a bit loud. Maybe because it was busy and there was a couple of large groups. Our shared entree of beef satay skewers (3) was delicious. Then I had Thai green curry prawns which was fragrant & tasty with steamed rice on the side to soak up the juice. My partner had Hokkien Noodles from the Special Additions menu page which he enjoyed - he can be fussy/picky sometimes. We were too full for dessert but there was an impressive list of flavoured ice creams. Their takeaway area is separate from the dining room which is a good arrangement.
I want to go back for more.
Our first trip was because my boyfriend had planned to take me to the Raffles Room, but we were confused when the address bought us to Mangosteen as apparently the Raffles Room had closed.Since then we have been about 5 times because we have loved it! The food, the staff and the atmosphere! But on our 5th visit, we brought some friends to show them the brilliance of Mangosteen and we received bad service. We waited over an hour for our meals, to which all we received was an oral apology. No discount for our meals which were much smaller in size then usual, being regulars we noticed this immediately.I'm not sure if we'll be returning anytime soon but I highly recommend the Peanut Beef (I get tofu) it's to die for, my boyfriend loves it too!Another great thing is they are happy to swap meat meals with tofu to meet my vegan dietary requirements.
Reminders of travels through S.E Asia. If you have never been to Mangosteen, do yourself a favour and go give it a try at your soonest opportunity. If you are a lover of Asian food, you will love it. Fresh and full of flavour, each dish is a delight - wonderful flavours & smells of Asia for sure! The prices are pretty reasonable too. Keep up the great work guys!
Went here Friday night. No booking but still got a table in a very busy resturant. Service was good. The food was excellent. Coconut prawn spring roll were fantastic with a really well balanced sweet chilli dipping sauce. The crispy beef was great to start with but towards the end of the dish it seems a bit too sweet. A good dish for my sweet toothed boys. The ankor seafood was delicate and had a good serving of seafood. Will definitely be going back with the whole family. Excellent food in an attractive surrounding.
Delicious AND Pretty!. Okay, the first thing I want to say is that I really must start taking my camera to some of these places. The decor inside this restaurant was very pleasing (I particularly liked the random purple chairs dotted amongst the dark grey ones and they have some rather dramatic light fittings - Even the toilets were interesting! With a high ceiling and a rather art deco/art nouveau feel.
Mangosteen sits opposite the picturesque and historic Tea Tree Gully Hotel and is quite newly opened. Cuisine is South East Asian with Vietnamese, Cambodian, Thai and Chinese. Prices are perhaps bordering on mid-range, although I'm inclined to say they're quite cheap, really.
Well, the food was absolutely delicious, with that rare "delicacy of flavour" as I call it (I'm no gastronomic expert and have no idea how else to describe it) that is usually experienced in more expensive restaurants. I was really impressed! So was my partner.
I had the salt and pepper bean curd, my partner had the Angkor Chicken and we ordered seasonal green vegetables on the side. Interestingly, I am not a fan of that particularly soft, silky textured type of bean curd normally. But this dish was great, the texture was amazing, the crispness perfect!
The serves were not huge, although it was just enough for me. For someone with a bigger stomach, maybe order an extra side dish (we shared one side dish between two).
With how good this food was for this price range, and how lovely the whole place is to even look at, I'm giving Mangosteen a very good score! 9/10.
