We visited The Mexican Kitchen tonight essentially chosen as it’s in the entertainment book and I’ve driven past several times so we thought it was high time we checked it out. It was bustling being a Saturday night and we swiftly started off with some nachos electing for the small size which was so generous we couldn’t even finish it.
Given we were so full I opted for two small dishes for my main a single prawn taco and the chicken flautas. They were both yummy and quite filling also. My friend ordered the combination but had to leave most of it behind due to overdoing it on the nacho front. We enjoyed our experience here and would definitely return
It was highly recommended by our friends and they were not wrong. we has a great dining experience there on a Friday night. It was busy but not over crowded. We were still able to enjoy good conversation with the delicious food we had. All dishes we tried were fantastic. Sangria was one of the best we’ve tried. A bottle fills 4 glasses. Will definitely be going back for more!
We love PJs. The nachos are the best I’ve ever eaten and all the food is fresh and delicious. You have to try the strawberry margarita it is the best. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is fun.
I like this place but it is always very noisy I think due to poor sound proofing - just don't come here if you want to converse over dinner unless you're happy to yell across the table!
However, the food is good and staff are nice!
Authentic Mexican food in a comfortable local setting with friendly and efficient service, but can get a little too busy on weekends. Great for a quick meal and well-priced for what is is.
Outstanding Mexican! Fantastic service! Importantly, PJ's has a great line up of Mexican beer. Check out PJ's takeaway menu.................
Came here one night with a friend for dinner. She said highly recommended this place so I had to try it. Normally I don't have much Mexican food so I thought I was in for a treat.
We both got the following:
Food:
• Flautas
• Jalapeño Peppers
• Fajitas
• Quesadilla Suprema
Drinks:
• Mexican Spiders (mango & pineapple)
To start off the flautas came out and they looked so appetising and alluring to look at. The beef entailed inside was nice and overall a well executed dish with undeniable boosted flavour.
The jalapeño peppers arrived next and look very dry and didn't really look inspiring whatsoever. Texturally they were ok, I was actually waiting for a hot encounter but to my surprise it wasn't apparent. The cheese portion worked swimmingly with the pepper I have to declare but in total an average starter.
Steaming flavour combinations came next to our table. We decided to get mixed meat and both beef and chicken were cooked great with the capsicum and onions. The flour tortillas were alright I suppose. I didn't like the cheese additive and the rice was surprisingly very bland which I was spewing about because everything else just worked. A sub par selection I'm afraid.
Now to the highlight of my night, the seafood suprema. Once opened the seafood goodness was just delightful. Each mouthful was just pure elegance. The scallops were texturally lovely and the sauce with the rice... OMG. High points for this dish.
While indulging with our food I decided to get a pineapple spider and it actually worked great with the whole service of food. Ice cream basted perfectly with the soda. My friend liked her mango flavour combo also.
In consummation a well presented Mexican food establishment that offers one hell of a seafood pairing filled tortilla that I will be coming back for.
Delicious Mexican food. I had their seafood burrito and it was yum! I topped it off with their sticky date pudding which was also lovely. Will def be back
Really nice and inexpensive Mexican. Wife has been waiting for good Mexican restaurant and we have now found it in PJ's. Unpretentious and fresh with good service. Oh and no crappy Sombrero or other mexican knick knacks on the walls and ceiling
Have been to PJ's for the 5th time now, great food and service. The only complaint I have is the lady taking the bookings is absolutely hopeless and is completely hopeless at remembering you or getting your booking correct. Often looks at you with a a dumbfounded face. You ask her something and she looks at you confused. Have also asked for a high chair to be provided but they can never seem to find it.
Friendly environment, great tasting food. Price was reasonable. The service was prompt and friendly. Not a place for a romantic evening, as the tables were quite close together (which is fine if you like eavesdropping). Left feeling full and happy.
I loved my experience at PJ's! Great atmosphere and service and I really enjoyed the food. A really great place to kick back with some friends or a date.
First visit and pleasantly surprised. Service was very good, cosy interior (love the bar nd all the knick knacks....skeleton heads et al ) and the food wasn't bad at all. I ordered the mixed beef/chicken fajita and quite enjoyed it all...the meat, the rice and the tortillas.
Have been here a couple of times now and have always enjoyed it. The food is fresh, tasty and the menu spot on for Tex Mex. Its always busy when I've been there. Mostly younger crowd, good ambience but can get a little loud especially if there are large groups slamming tequilas!
Much better than I thought. Fajitas were spot on. Loved the social aspect to it. Nice and causal and great place to have a few margaritas with a few friends.
Fantastic well run restaurant, every time I have been I can't go past the deal mar. Never seen the place to busy and I think you could put that down to the location. It's somewhat sheltered away from everything not like the open carluccis and Livingroom
PJ's you never disappoint. Came in the other day, was hankering for some sweet Mexican and walked out so damn satisfied. They have a great selection of both entrees and mains but you can't go past the tacos or charred corn to start with. The mixed fajitas are always just so good but if you're really hungry, go the Loco Enchilada Mexico. They have a great selection of Mexican beers, a few I've never heard of. Margaritas are also really good. To top off the great food the staff are really friendly. I love coming here. Check it out if you haven't already!
If you are in Templestowe and looking for a good feed (and drink for that matter) then check out PJ's. We had dinner and drinks in here on Saturday night and had a ball. Staff were great, food was amazing and got a chance to check out some new Mexican beers. I think I have just found my new Mexican restaurant!
Came here for Sunday night dinner as I was craving a bit of mexican. I thought it was great. The atmosphere is pretty chill, I loved all the different types of tequila bottles around the place. I had the Tacos and Fajitas and they were beautiful. Give the chilli a go on the corn chips with salsa before your meal comes out and whatever you do, give the margaritas a go. Was very good!
Have wanted to try this place for a while now! Managed to get a table on a busy Saturday night. Atmosphere was great, and the host and staff very friendly and attentive! We both had the combination meal with some guac and sour cream on the side. Was really good, couldn't decide on my favourite between the enchilada and the taco. Both were explosions of flavour. Would have like a little lettuce/salsa/colour on the plate, but we were both really very happy. Great size meal and great prices! Very, very impressed! Can't wait to go back! Didn't get to try a Margherita as I was driving, so I look forward to that!
When I first heard there was a local Mexican place in the suburbs I had my doubts but thankfully I was surprised with delicious Tex-mex goodness. Place looks great with the tequila and mezcal bottles on the side of the bar and more impressive was the range of beers they have on ofter with two I've never even seen in an Australian restaurant or bar. Good selection of non alcoholic drinks too, partner had the tropical and the lemon slushie.
We had the nachos, chicken quesadilla and the beef enchiladas (really good complimentary chips and salsa too). All dishes were yum and while probably too much food for my partner and I, was worth it. PJ's is bang for your buck with friendly staff to boot!
Don't go expecting authentic Mexican food but good Tex-Mex, tasty drinks and a fun atmosphere (with good music)!
AMAZING!!!! The food is ab.... AMAZING!!!!
The food is absolutely nothing less than great. The food reasonably priced for a range of foods, they have Kids Menus and well portioned food as well. The adult menu is great. I couldn't fault it. I had the fajitas and I couldn't fault it I absolutely loved the food. The staff are wonderful and have great energy. I love the place. It's so great.
WOW!!. This place was the best thing that happened to Templestowe. So glad PJ decided to open a Mexican store in Templestowe because it is local and delicious. Been here many times both eating in and dine out and every time has been sensational.
The best Mexican Ive had in Melbourne. Delicious food, friendly staff and enjoyable atmosphere. PJ is always friendly and happy to accomodate for any personal requests. If you feel like Mexican at affordable prices you cant go past this local gem. 10/10
Holy Frijoles!. Great family restaurant catering to all tastes. Owner PJ gave us fantastic service and yummy Mexican fare. Had the Chicken Supremo burrito and thoroughly enjoyed it. Awesome flavours washed down with fruity Sangria. Definately be back for more!
My fave local Mexican!. Love this place. Owner is friendly and attentive. Food is great and well priced. Highly recommend it!
Fantastic experience. Hands down the friendliest and most attentive staff and owner at any restaurant I've ever eaten at. And the foods good too! And very well priced. Could not fault our experience here and Cannot wait to come back ! 10/10
Like tacos. Regular for the tacos and they are well priced and good, fresh tasting
GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE 3 TIMES. Been to Thornbury P Js 3 times in the last month, had a fantastic time, loved the food and the friendly staff so much that we are having a 60th birthday there in the new year
Not bad for a mexican place.. I have been twice now in the past 2 weeks. First time service was very slow (unless you are a friend of the owner and get served in 2 minutes). the atmosphere is OK. The food was very nice and Mexican is always filling. The second time the service was great and the waitresses were very polite and quick to respond. The food was still good and the place mus be popular as it filled up by 8pm. I will go back but i would hope they just spice up the menu a bit.
A great local Mexican restaurant. Friendly staff and a great vibe and atmosphere. Menu is very versatile with some classic and modern Mexican. Drinks and food are very well priced especially when compared to other restaurants in the area. Well worth a visit
Absolutely recommend! Great noisy atmosphere, friendly staff and the best Mexican food I have ever had!!!
My partner and I wanted to try this place for ages, however due to lockdowns etc we weren't able too. Until a couple of Fridays ago!
Food was great, big serves and the meat was cooked perfectly. We got tacos and taquitos for entree, mixed fajitas for main to share- we were so full by the end of it. Margaritas were on point as well, went well with trying all their hot sauces!
Looking forward to returning 😀
Tried for the first time we got take away beef burritos well to my partners surprise it was a full meal and then some so he was very excited so I’m writing this review to say amazing food and service well done
Great food and deadly Alcoholic cocktails 🥴
I gave it a 4, only bcos we were always trying to get the attention of a staff member, and they never scanned the room to see if patrons needed assistance, this was super frustrating, esp since we spent $300 there.
Food and drinks were amazing and not over priced
Service was great. The food was lovely. Decently priced. I would visit again.
Delicious food and great atmosphere! Love their double shell tacos 🌮 and margaritas 🍸.
Definitely recommend! 👌❤️
Great Mexican food. Delicious salsa, beans and tacos. And vegetarian options for many dishes. Be careful of their red hot plates!
Good kids menu options which are reduced sizes mains dishes. Rather than nuggets and chips.
5 stars for dessert. The ice cream nachos and cream de caramel were creative and delicious.
