Had some family over from Sydney and they wanted to get Micks donuts to take back. I have only had the nutella ones to date but this time I also got to try the caramel filled and jam ones too. The dounut was nice and soft and had a nice amount of filling in it too.
If I say the original nutella-filled doughnuts from Mick’s Place attract queues as long as Lune Croissanterie’s, would you give it a try? Well, they do.
Had these nutella-filled doughnut babies, popularly known as the donutella, from Mick’s Place delivered to my table in the morning, and I just couldn’t stop thinking about them ever since. They are super yummy and crispy on the outside, yet gooey on the inside. No place does Donutella it as well as Mick’s! But Mick’s Place is very far from where I live, hence it’s difficult to go get it unless I get help from friends.
Love, love donutella donuts here. Loads of sugar coating and gooey nutella. I've only had fresh ones once and holy donuts, they were the best! I have been back a few times but been going at times when the donuts aren't fresh. Nonetheless, I still crave them once in a while. 😃
Just wanna say the service here is always on point, accomodating and often hilarious (a cheeky banter here or two).
The original micks donuts! And still as good as when the craze first started. Still haven't tasted a Nutella donut like micks. Hands down the best
My babes and I had just picked up her sister from trade school in Epping when we felt like having something sweet. We were driving down Dalton Road towards the Ring Road when my babes asked if Mick's Place was nearby. After consulting google maps on my phone and driving down a few side streets, we found ourselves parked outside the famous Thomastown milk bar about 10 minutes later.
The last time my babes and I were at Mick's Place was over a year ago in early 2015. Back then, they only sold the famous Nutella filled donut nicknamed the "Donutella". Now, they not only sold a wide range of filled donuts, but also mini versions of them too. We weren't particularly hungry so we decided to order six mini donuts which included two Donutella's, two Salted Caramel, a Peanut Butter & Jam and a Cookies & Cream filled mini donuts.
The first thing we noticed was that the mini donuts weren't as soft as the normal sized donuts we got a year ago. Also they weren't filled that much but when you factor in that the mini donuts are only $1.50 each, you tend not to be too worried as you're still getting good value for money.
If you like Nutella then you're going to love the Donutella. I liked that the Salted Caramel was not as sweet as I was expecting but my babes prefers their competitor in Hoppers Crossing. The Peanut Butter & Jam didn't quite work as I'd like it as the peanut butter was bland and the strawberry jam wasn't that flavourful. The biggest disappointment was the Cookies & Cream though as it tasted like buttercream icing with no cookie flavouring. At least crush some Oreo cookies through the buttercream so the big chunks give a textural change rather than just buttercream on its own.
I do appreciate that Mick's Place is trying to add a range to their donuts but personally I think they've missed the mark on the new flavours. The saving grace is that the full sized donuts are still $3 and the mini donuts half that so it is much cheaper than other donut places so I'd still recommend it for anyone wanting some filled donuts in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
The Swine thinks kudos should be given to Mick's Place for creating the massive buzz around the Donutella Nuttela Donut. Who would have thunk this tiny little shop, milk bar, cafe in the back streets of sububia would become the donut mecca of Australia? Yes people still line up to get their boxes of donuts. Amazing. Swine approved.
Do: The Donutella Donut obviously. Mick started the whole crazy. The best donuts ever. Airy, pillowy and warm.
Don't: Leave without grabbing a few custard ones to go.
Tip: Beat the rush and go early to avoid disappointment. Also, say "hi" to Mick. Great guy.
The Nutella donuts. Oh my god. Most amazing Nutella donuts I've ever had. The actual donut tasted amazing and obviously Nutella brings anything to a whole other level. Worth the drive that's for sure. Didn't take a photo of the donuts mainly because i ate them
Ventured out to thomastown on Saturday night, ordered 8 Nutella donuts. The girl who served me was lovely and gave 4 extra donuts on the house. 10/10 donuts and friendly staff! Highly recommend
Ummmmmm DELICIOUS NUTTELLA DONUTS!!!!! Always makes me feel better when im down or sick. Always had to order at least 4 considering the craze around town and the waiting time to get a hold on them......!!!! Taste its best when its fresh.. Dough is perfectly spongy.. With a huge amount of Nutella. Comes in a hard box great for transportation home!!! Reasonably price for the size tooo!
Nutella Donuts are below average if they're not microwaved. Once it's microwaved they taste so good, melts in my mouth !!! Custard flavour is mediocre though.
The donut taste very soft and spongy, personally think is too much chocolate Nutella inside the donut, the size of the donut is generous, worth driving to the Thomastown store to get fresh donut.
Worth the drive across town for Nutella Doughnuts. Nothing more to add.

140 characters filled.
Was worth the ride over on our motorbikes on a cold, Melbourne winter's day. The queue moved quickly and we enjoyed our doughnuts with some coffees outside. The perfect consistency of the dough and the amount of the nutella in the doughnut, cannot describe the coma and happiness I felt for the next hour. No frills shop, made up for by friendly staff and of course the NUTELLA DOUGHNUTS.
Nutella donuts have been all over the media and everyone has gone crazy over them. I finally got my hands on them and got to see what the hype was all about. I was lucky enough to get them delivered to my house by Mr X because he was in the area and I would not drive 45min – 60mins just for donuts. Priced at $3.00 each they were reasonable for what you get. At first glance, they were all perfectly spherical, dusted with an excess amount of icing sugar and a generous amount of nutella on top and inside. I thought they would be way too sweet but they weren’t at all. The dough was very cushiony and doughy, just like clouds. The nutella was the disappointing part. I was expecting it to melt when I bit into it but it was cold and thick. After heating it up in the grill for 5 minutes the donut was 100% better. The dough was warm, fluffy and soft, making every bite addictive. If you are planning on eating a nutella donut, make sure you heat it up!Overall, the donuts are pretty good but I would not drive to Thomastown just for one donut. If you are planning to go there make sure you bulk order. My friends have tried the peanut/nutella and jam/nutella flavours and said they worked quite well with each other. I am yet to try them. Where are your favourite donut places? I would love to try other donut joints.
I loved it! The line is ridiculous but everyone is friendly, so while you wait, have a chat to the bloke next to you about how ridiculous it is to adventure out here in a tiny milkbar for nutella donuts. I'd go back :)
After hearing heaps about these donuts I made the trek from Malvern.....via a couple cafes along the way. Picked up 6 nutella donut babies, fed them to the guys at work the next day and we feel 4 is a good rating. Fresh, tasty and a nice Sunday drive
NOTE: This is only a review of the Nutella doughnuts - nothing else.
The Nutella doughnuts are simply amazing. For $3 each they are about half the cost I have been paying for gourmet doughnuts around Northcote/Brunswick/South Yarra and CBD (between $5 and $6). The dough is so soft and fluffy that the special first bite is able to be recreated each time. There's the perfect amount of Nutella inside and out too.
Best doughnut I've had yet.
Simple, fresh, delicious donuts. Something to go out of your way for. Having been to many, many donut establishments, I can confidently say that the fare on offer is the least complicated but amongst the best!
Best Nutella donuts ever!
Very friendly place. Quite a sizable convenience store that carries a large assortment of goods. All your standard corner shop classics, icecreams, drinks, nice lolly collection.
Then we get to the donuts, my good are these donuts good, light and fluffy, sweet filling which is rich in flavour and gooey in texture. What more could you ask from a donut.
Outside seating is serviceable, even pleasant in the right conditions. Decent design and colour scheme on the walls and nice water feature keeps things interesting. Choice of the Disney font for all the text is a little questionable. 5 stars
Nicest guys in there.
We just moved into the area and they even gave us a welcome gift.
BTW, their donuts are out of this world
The big donuts are full of Nutella 👍 and now they have my favourite back: Nutella and peanut butter!
Small donuts are convenient to eat but don't have much Nutella in em
OBSESSED with their Nutella donuts! Just wish they were on Uber Eats or something too so I could get them delivered home. Staff are super friendly :)
I think it was Mick who served us a couple of months back, he is the most down to earth friendly guy :) The donuts are delicious and are a good price and we travelled far to get them and he gave as a couple of donuts for free, thanks soo much I won't forget how nice you were and recommended all my friends to come and try :)
I accidentally stumbled upon this place after craving for coffee. I wasn't expecting much but surprisingly, they serve awesome donuts and coffee! My go to place in this side of Thomastown, definitely!
