Fabulous in every way. We hold a regular meeting in the function room. The staff are amazing and the venue perfect. I would strongly recommend for functions up to 30 people.
We had our work Christmas party upstairs, and the staff where fantastic! So kind and down to earth, worked hard so that none of us where waiting and all glasses napkins etc where picked up. I couldn't have chosen a better place for us to have our function. Staff are professional and kind, and rooms are pretty funky. Great atmosphere.
It was my first time at Joanie's and it won't be my last. Loved everything about the place. Definitely an ongoing regular for me!! �
The space, the staff, the food & the drinks....love that we have access to such a cool bar in the north! Can't wait to come back!
An excellent place to relax and go for drinks. The Red Mule is the best drink to have there.
My partner and I have been going to Joanie's since it first opened, its our local and our absolute favourite!
The staff are all so friendly and welcoming and they make the BEST aperol sprits and espresso martini in Melbourne! You should also try the food, it's to die for. You honestly can't go wrong with a night at Joanies!

Great Bar and service allways helpfull A nice range of wines . But guys now that it is getting colder can we warm the place up a bit.

It is a welcoming bar with a chic city vibe and great decor- hence the photo of the pinocchio taps in the bathroom. The guy was fine w us looking at the taps as he was washing hus hands

One of the best bars in Thornbury. I’ve been coming here off and on for a few years and each time I return it’s like coming home to friends.
Tonight was a little different where we’d hired the top room for an event. The room was beautiful laid out and ready - set up by Kim who is amazing at her job.
The space was a good temperature despite the hot night outside, all the IT worked and the food and refreshments suited out clients perfect.
I have in the past dined downstairs and found there to be lovely corners where couples or small groups can gather and feel somewhat private.
The decor is upstairs in honour of the history of Joanie’s and downstairs there is a warmth and inviting appeal whether your in a booth st the rear or at the bar.
Food is excellent and the variety to choose from picks up the culinary offerings for High Street cafes.
Prices are reasonable.
Wheelchair friendly - except to get upstairs. High chair available. Good parking out front but be aware of restrictions.

Very cute setting with friendly staff who know how to mix a drink! Loved the aperol spritz and beer/wine selection available! Next time looking forward to trying some of the food which smelt delicious
Cosy neighbourhood local! We were sitting outside under cover but with typical crazy Melbourne weather the rain blew sideways into us!! The lovely front of house staff were accommodating and quickly brought fold out tables to move everyone upstairs. Simple short menu executed well :)

Knowledgable bartenders and manager seem to make everyone feel welcome.
This place gets quite busy at times so securing a table or bar stool early is a must.
The DJs they have appearing there definitely know how to work a crowd!Must try: The cocktail with Centerba in it (you'll have to ask them) and any of the delicious pasta or cottoletta. Always order the olives- they are so good!
The bathroom decor is also out of this world!

Absolutely loved the feel of this place. Popped in for a drink on the way home and the staff welcomed us in with a cracking smile. The food that I walked past looked tops. Will be back to give it a crack!!
Love love love Joanie's! What a great place for a meal or a glass of wine. Pastas are authentic and delicious. The veal ragu is really special. The whole feel of the place is relaxed, but clean and nicely furnished. Will definitely be back for a Campari in the courtyard. Friendly down to earth service and a lovely evening all round!
The best bar I have been to in ages! Great drinks/ cocktail list with beautiful nibblies and all reasonably priced. The place is bustling and even though it's local makes you feel like you're in the city. Service was spot on and music volume was perfect so that a group of people can have a conversation and hear each other - and you HAVE to check out the toilets, so cool!!
Atmosphere is fantastic, I could spend the whole day at Joanies's! Great cocktail list and good variety of Italian wines and grappa! Food is delicious, especially the entrees! Staff is always friendly and relaxed. Love this place
Great place to spend an evening with friends. They have nice cosy booths & a great cocktail list! The girl that's always on, on a Sunday night is great & makes the best amaretto sour!
Fab wine, nibbles and vibes. Such a gorgeous place to have a drink on a sunny afternoon. The fiano and sangiovese are great drops - they certainly know their wines.
Good place to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends. Drinks in the back court yard and a good ranbe on the menu. We came for a special event BBQ and were impressed.
I believe that Joanie's is affiliated in some way with the Umberto Cafe a few doors down. The two venues serve amazing Italian Food, only Joanie's can boast the best drinks.
I love the friendliness of the staff and the back section of the establishment.
I find the middle area of the venue a little noisy, and out on the street runs the risk of smokers. So just like Umberto's the back section of the venue is hot property.
Have been to Joanie’s a few times as it’s walking distance to my house and it’s a pretty consistent place in Thornbury.
The staff are friendly, the place is open late each time I’ve been and it’s a really relaxed evening spent here for quiet drinks.
The cocktails are a bit expensive for what they are, but that’s kinda the usual price in the area now so you deal with it if that’s what you’re drinking.
The best part is probably the size of the place, it’s pretty big with lots of seating so you can get a bigger group together to chill out.
You could do a lot worse for places on High St.

Joanie's started as a spin-off of Umberto's, but quickly developed its own character and independence.
1. Outlook: the interiors are finely furnished, and the atmosphere is both homely and modern. In particular, I loved the match between stone bricks and warm wood.
2. Service: bartenders can work at a fast pace; nevertheless, there is an overall feeling of friendliness and relaxedness that make this spot ideal for anybody who is looking for a place to chat, make friends, and break up with the noisy lifestyle of CBD discos.
3. Drinks: a variety of drinks are available. I particularly appreciate the choices of wine: the list is not lengthy, but the choices available deliver quality at an affordable price. The beer on tap is fine and it has been a pleasure to rediscover Peroni: it appears the quality of Peroni outside of Italy is remarkably higher than within the country! Do not forget to probe the menu for unexpected cocktails, if that's what you're after.
4. Food: being a winery rather than a restaurant, food is (usually) restricted to small treats and shared plates. I particularly suggest you try the salami/prosciutto/seasoned cheese plates, especially if you came over with friends.
5. Extras: occasionally, they broadcast football matches in the room upstairs, which has its own bar and seating. Moreover, table-football tournament are regularly held.
This is basically the place I like to go when I am with friends, and it is also my ace in the hole for romantic dates.
Great bar lovely nibbles and great to be able to enjoy a simple bowl of pasta from down the road. A really terrific late evening hide out in the north
Great bar which serves a good selection of wines by the glass and makes a great Spritz. Their salumi platter is delicious. Nice place to have a quiet drink or two. If you can't be bothered moving on to dinner, the very obliging staff will serve you pasta from Umberto's a couple of doors down.

I love Joanies! Such a good place to come for drinks and nibbles. If going for a main the lamb chops are always tasty - well seasoned and cooked perfectly! Have never had a bad experience here. Great location, great themed fit out with indoor/outdoor/courtyard options - always good tunes and friendly staff. Always one my top choices in bars to go to along High street!

The Italian atmosphere is strong. Spritz and pasta... need i say more? Highly recommend the summer spritz drinks on the menu. Rather refreshing with a side of fruity. The pasta is also really good.

Traditional Italian food that is absolutely delicious! You do have to order drinks & food at the bar, as well as get your own cutlery/napkins. Apart from that, it is a great place to eat/drink.
