My go to place when I'm craving roast duck on rice. Generous serving and delicious. Try the roast pork as well. Great for group booking.
We had a fantastic time at Pacific Seafood BBQ House. The service was warm and friendly. The dishes were delicious.
The whole fish was prepared beautifully (but a bit pricey) and the sauce was well balanced. We also had scallops which were plump and juicy.
Definitely worth a visit.
Busy Chinese restaurant with plenty of variety, with a focus of course on seafood. Something to please everyone, with plenty dishes that are authentic.

What you should order: roast duck, pipa tofu

Pacific BBQ is an oldie but a goodie. Do not expect first class ambience - this is the place for reliable Chinese food and casual dinners.
Over the years, I’ve had the roast meat here and I must say that the roast duck is pretty good. They can be fatty but you can always ask for leaner meat.
Today, we opted for a more seafood Chinese dinner:
1. We started off with complimentary chicken soup and I don’t know if it was the cold weather, but it was just so heartwarming to have the soup!
2. The sweet and sour fish batter was a little too thick, but the sweet and sour sauce itself was okay.
3. The pipa tofu (tofu with pork and prawn fillings) was executed well, although the tofu texture was rougher because it’s fried (forgive my ignorance, first time ordering this dish!)
4. The oyster omelette was sadly not what we expected. We were hoping for crispy crunchy omelette but Pacific’s version of oyster omelette is more akin to Spanish omelettes, where the omelette is still a little moist in the middle.
5. Fried rice with dried scallops was a winner. Also, portions were massive! So don’t over order like we did :)

This place is always packed. Food is always good and it’s a very relaxed and affordable option. Huge menu so there’s a little something for everyone.
Decent food! Just be aware that there is a difference in price between their lunch menu and their dinner menu. Overall, spacious and food was fresh :)
The staff took me to a table as soon as I arrived . They gave me free tea and soup . The dish that I ordered came out quickly and was very tasty .
I will return .
Love this place. They always start you off with a delicious soup and tea. We had the braised lamb and mushroom hot pot. It was a winter special. The man that served us was excellent. We were going to order more dishes and he was correct in telling us that we had ordered enough. It was a big pot and we didn’t get through all of it. Possibly because I had to have the Pipi’s too!
Some of the best crispy roast pork belly, and roast duck comes from Pacific BBQ House. It's a no frills service, you sacrifice some 'customer service' for tasty food, at a very reasonable price. Whenever someone asks me where I can get the best pork belly where the cracking crumbles in your mouth, I always say Pacific BBQ house.
Love, love, love their Singaporean crab noodles, their prawn egg yolk, roasted duck and chicken ribs. The food was delicious with average service.
It’s always a mixed bag when it comes to Pacific Seafood BBQ House, but one that I’m always happy to open and discover! This place has had a bit of a legacy with our family, we seem to have visited it a lot. It’s also one of the few Cantonese options around South Yarra although the last few years have that changing as well.
Simply the best Chinese in the area. Prices are quite high however what you get in return is quality. Come here with my family often and everyone is so satisfied!
Best Chinese food in Melbourne and staff to match. Would recommend to anyone who is after the real deal.
Never been disappointed and the food is always at a 5 star level.
During our Melbourne visit, we ended up visiting this place at South Yarra. The day we landed Melbourne it was 25th December and thus most of the restaurants were closed, finally a young student told us to try this place
Food- We ordered their roast duck, which apparently one of their specialties, the duck roast was simply authentic, sweet tang and cooked to perfection, the hoisin sauce with the duck roast was match made in heaven
Chicken dumplings( Pretty Decent, the bambooish smell was making the dumplings taste very rustic. Glass noodles with chicken, pork and prawns. We had asked them to increase the spiciness of the noodles and the server obliged. It was very yummy, just the way we wanted
Customer service- Fast and friendly service
Value for money- Moderate
Ambience- Lookes like this place has their loyal clientele. Lot of big families, couples were seen
Excellent Cantonese food for the
Most part. Sweet and sour battered pork is my absolute favourite. I also like how they bring you a hot bowl of complimentary soup before your meal- it’s just like my grandma in Hong Kong makes. The Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce is stir fried to perfection-crunchy and cooked on the inside. The bbq meats are a big hit and miss- sometimes the duck is too dry or salty but overall the food is consistently good! It’s a reliable local gem
They have great tasting and good quality Chinese food. I ordered the Peking Duck Roll. Super tasty! The place however is not too spacious and very crowded during rush hours. It becomes quite uncomfortable to be eating big asian dish in such an unspacious place.
My regular go to for roast duck and dry noodle. Hard to find any other place in Melbourne that will beat it. Service is also reasonable here.
Amazing seafood! Always well prepared, and fresh! The restaurant is not the fanciest in decor, but it doesn’t need to be when their food is so delicious!

Efficient. Tasty. Good Chinese food no frills, quick and to the point. Love the fried calamari with spicy salt and pepper. My husband hates Chinese food (some people are strange like that) but didn’t want to come but I coaxed him into coming and he admitted he enjoyed it. Quite likely the best Chinese restaurant on the Victoria street strip. Slightly annoyed at reading the menu which said cash only so ran all the way to Woolies to get cash and then being told that they accept cards now. Still great though.
We ordered the mud crab, chinese broccoli, fried rice and fried beans (I need to note that I ordered in pictures from Zomato. ‘This is what I want, *point*) We went to order another dish only to be told an out straight ‘NO’ ......too much’ to an extra order. We were amused and little shocked. But the waiter was right! (eyes bigger than our stomachs) More to our amusement, we heard a table order 2 whole Peking Ducks to which they were told “No, TOO MUCH ”... to which the woman replied... ‘ok just one then..?’ These people know their shit. The food was on point. 4 stars only because we felt rushed (got the bill half way through... what the?!). True Asian eat, pay, go....
Highly recommended!
Foods were fresh and the way they cooked so delicious.
Fast service too you don’t need waiting too long to get your food.
BBQ pork and duck were tasty. The Chinese brocolli (Gai Lan) in garlic sauce was firm but tender and the wok and garlic flavours were present throughout.
The best roast dishes I have ever tried in Melbourne!!!!!! Beautiful food and nice service! They also offer FREE daily soup, soo yummm, will go back AGAIN~
Delicious and amazing!! We ordered mud crab (market price, $36/500g) with noodles in ginger and shallot sauce and mixed stir fry vegetables and some steamed rice. Excellent service, attentive staff - plates were changed out for new ones when full of crab shells. Free soup as a starter was delicious. We left the restaurant full and happy!
Possibly the best place to have seafood done the Asian way. Their small abalone with XO sauce are on point every time. My new favourite here is now the steamed coral trout - the sauce is divine, the fish is steamed to perfection (not too cooked that it looses all the sweet taste). Definitely a good place to treat yourself.
Of course, like many Asian restaurants, the space isn’t fancy but you come here for the food, right?!
Exactly what I’ve been looking for in a good, authentic Chinese restaurant close to home. Every dish was delicious and the service was exceptional. Nothing to fault here and I’ll be back for sure!
An old favourite, this place provides consistently good Chinese meals highlighted by their Chinese bbq meats.
For lunch, we ordered the mixed meat of crispy pork and duck (both were excellent, succulent, crispy and tasty), with a serving of crab claw (generous crab filling that was better then expected), and ginger scallop (cooked to perfection). We also ordered a serving of shredded chicken with chilli (the chicken was tender, coated with sauce and moorish). The meal came with a complimentary soup which really sets off the meal perfectly. The prices have creeped up over the years, so this a now an above average priced meal, but the servings remain generous and the service prompt and efficient.
Best chinese restaurant around south yarra.
Free tea and soup (lotus soup very tasty)
Most famous for their bbq pork.
Bbq pork - skin is crispy but not super crispy
Roast duck - ok, abit tough
Beef with kailan - very nice, beef is very tasty and kailan cooked well
Prawn seafood beancurd claypot - massive portion, they really put lots of seafood
Sweet and sour chicken with batter - nice combination of chicken and batter (not just batter like the one you found on the fast chinese food court restaurant)
It was 6 of us, and we only ordered 4, yet.. still manage to have some leftover.
So do not order too much, you can order more later on anyway rite?
The menu is pretty extensive and I’ve only had the soya chicken on rice here but it was so good👌 will definitely be back for that. Staff were friendly too.
Visited this place the other day cos craving of bbq pork, soy chicken and crackling pork rice combination. They have few branches however the one in South Yarra is the original resto. They makes good meal. Pork crackling was crunchy, soy chicken and bbq pork was tender and flavoursome. Happy to satisfy my craving with decent meals.
We came in for weekend lunch and ordered a whole duck, half & half bbq pork and crispy pork, and a plate of chinese broccoli with oyster sauce.
We had a lovely duck, thick meat and less fat. The bbq pork didn't look fresh, but the crispy pork was good.
Service was average as expected.
So good for roasted duck and roasted chicken. I love this place 😭😭 a must try !
I had the flu when I was here and tried taking the hot & spicy noodle soup. And it was good! Although I had to blow my nose a lot but that was the whole point. It was spicy, hot and sweet at the same time! If only there was mantao bread that came with it, I would’ve dipped my bread into the soup !
Great food.... highly recommended.... always a high quality of food..... exceptional seafood and reasonable value for money...... first choice for Chinese food in Melbourne
There are few Pasific branches around Melbourne and this time we're trying the one in South Yarra.
We came with a group of five people on the weekend when we came, the restaurant was pretty busy but not too packed.
The restaurant has plenty seats available and quite spacious, therefore it was still recommended to reserve the place to have better spot but don't worry that you won't get any seats if you don't reserve the table.
As soon as you were seated then you will be served a complimentary chicken soup and chinese tea.
The customer staffs was alright.
The vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant was alright, a typical Chinese restaurant.
We ordered:
- Sweet & Sour Chicken in Batter for $23.00.
The chicken was well fried, it was served crispy and crunchy.
Unfortunately, the taste of the sauce was average and nothing special.
Surely, it wasn't the best sweet & sour chicken we've every tried.
- Fillet Mignon with Black Pepper Sauce for $25.00.
This one was one of the favourite dishes we ordered.
The beef was very tender and juicy covered in the great black pepper sauce.
The sauce wasn't too strong either which was even better.
We're definitely happy to recommend this dish.
- Deep Fried Calamari with Spict Salt & Chilli for $24.00.
Calamari was served in generous portion.
It was served warm, crispy from the outside but very tender inside.
Personally, if you eat the Calamari by itself, it would be too tasty (salty) therefore Jasmine rice was the great companion to enjoy this dish.
- Stir Fried Vegetables & Bean Curd for $22.00.
The dish was freshly served from the wok and used good quality of the vegetables as you could see from the green and clear color of the vegetables.
The taste was pretty good as well.
Unfortunately, the vegetables wasn't finely cut as some of them were too large.
Overall, the taste of their dishes was pretty good and slightly above average.
You'll be looking to spend around $22.00 - $26.00 per person excluding the drinks.

Food is great here but make sure you make a booking before you come! Sometimes even after making a booking we still have to wait. And parking is really difficult to get in this area. But all the dishes we have ordered have not disappointed. Their crab with ginger and spring onion noodles is still my favourite in melbourne. Another dish that is really good is their egg tofu with crabmeat. Service is so-so and it can get crowded and noisy as you are seated fairly near to the next table.
A lovely local Chinese Joint that my husband and I have eaten at for the last 8 years. Delicious complimentary soup to start. Tonight we ordered something different as it was truffle season - fresh scallop and prawn with broccoli and truffle - it was delicious. As usual the fresh seafood is not to be missed - recommendations are the fresh steamed oysters or scallops and lobster w egg noodles. The Wagyu beef with goose liver is delicious too. Portions very generous and if it is your first time, order the roast duck and sweet BBQ pork, it is the best in town!
My housemate took me here. We slammed back some BBQ duck, fried rice and some Tsingtaos. Best BBQ in the area hands down, always busy and I personally think one of the best BBQ I've had in Melbourne. If you do disagree please tell me why below, always interested in others opinions. I have no idea about consistency with this place so this rating is from a one off experience but I always walk past and see it's busy which we all know is a good sign. Thanks
Lunch time spot
I work pretty close to this place and it's a cracking spot for a quick cheap feed.
Staff are attentive and very efficient. Sit you down and bring you complimentary tea and soup straight away.
Ordered the soy chicken with rice and a side of vegetables. Very nice. Chicken was tasty and moist. Seriously good for $13!
Wham bam thank you Ma'am
Still one of my favorite restaurant in Melbourne after so many years live here .The service is efficient & the most important thing is they always maintain the quality of the food . Highly recommended .
Delicious food, all of my friend were highly recommended, their seafood is very fresh and taste is so yum. It was an amazing experience and will go next time definitely!
This place is great for a proper Chinese feast. Not so great if you're gluten free like me but hey, you can't expect that with an authentic Chinese restaurant. There is one guy in there, maybe the father of the owner, who is so happy and jolly. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the owner (possibly) main guy out the front serving. Very rushed, doesn't care about good service and we actually ended up with the wrong dish on our table. No apology, but we couldn't be bothered to make a fuss as it was busy and didn't want to have miscommunication again. Food is great and portions are really good though so would recommend !
Pretty surprised with the service standard here in the positive way. Very different compare with their cbd store. Quick service and great portion size. Very nice.
Standard student restaurant for a quick and delicious meal. I always opt for the baked fried rice or duck rice because of its big portion and its so yummy!
Yummy chinese☺the atmosphere isn't great 😕 but the food is!☺satay beef is awesome ☺ along with the won ton noodle soup☺and pretty much anything seafood tastes brilliant!☺tables are very packed together😕 and they run on volume rather than service ...hence the 4.5 ☺ but the food is great☺if you don't mind the hussle and bussel ☺
Excellent service and tasty food. Would recommend the duck as it is so fresh and delicious. Fast and friendly service. Portions are quite large but allowed to take home what is not eaten
PROPER CANTONESE FOOD! Unlike most other Chinese restaurants in South Yarra (or Melbourne in general), Pacific Seafood BBQ House serves up authentic Cantonese dishes at crazy-low prices. A massive winner in my books. Be sure to get the bbq sweet pork as an entree dish to share, and the roast duck on rice if you're getting takeaway!
Great tasting canton seafood, its biggest perk is definitely the consistency of the food here - been basically the same if not better than what I've had over the past 10 years. It's a fun and bustling place, prices are fair but not cheap and their crab stonepot is a personal fave!
The Pacifics have become my new Roast Duck find!
We ordered a whole duck de-boned, which they readily did for us at no extra charge. My partner craved some other meat variety, so we had Roast pork + Char Siew. Both really good! Friend craved salted fish fried rice, delicious with chunks of chicken, egg & salted fish. Although I thought the rice was too salty to be had with the duck. So I ordered plain yellow egg noodles on the side to really savour the flavours of the duck & meats.
In addition, I also really craved some hot plate tofu. They only had 1 type; some seafood tofu with Portuguese sauce. Absolutely delicious and smelt divine! Something different, but well worth the risk!
Being in Melb just over a year, I wonder why no one has mentioned this place before. Maybe the price, maybe the service? All up we paid $133 (4 ppl, including a $6 corkage for the bottle of wine we brought). Pretty decent, service was good and they even helped pour our BYO wine into wine glasses. Only downside was street parking, took us awhile to find in South Yarra.
Hands down the best roasted duck in Melbourne, the soya chicken is also nice and stir fry snow pea leaves with garlic goes well with the duck. The service is ok but the front counter girl should smile more, she always look angry with the world.
I had the best dinner here last night! We had the roast duck (entree size serving but it was plenty for the both of us). We also had the vegetarian spring rolls (delicious). The complementary tea was of a much higher standard than the tea served in most other Melbourne Chinese restaurants I have been to. A great night!
Me, my dad and my partner have been going here for years as it's one of the best Chinese in Melbourne and always outstanding service. The roast duck is one of the best we've had. It's quite big inside and it's always jam packed sometimes even a line going out the door! Tonight we got for entrees prawn dumpling, stuffed crab claw and roast duck and mains we got the pepper wagyu steak, stir fried garlic spinach and fried rice.
One of the better Chinese restaurants where the balance of flavours was given attention. We tried the golden egg yolk fried chicken which was delicious, crunchy and light. We also tried the seafood claypot which was very light in flavour but great in texture and freshness. Their complimentary soups were tasty and well-balanced - perfect for winter nights. Overall, it's a good place for Chinese food and we would definitely return.
I think it has the best roast duck in Melbourne. The flavour is quite traditional and taste really good. BTW, all the dishes are good, I love all of it! The only limitation is that if you using card to pay the bill, they charge you 2% only when you are using debit card
Having lived with this joint at the end of my street for over a year now, I've only just got around to trying this popular (if overpriced) joint.
I opted for a Sunday night takeaway as my usual choice Smile Thai was closed.
I ordered the BBQ pork - in the medium size ($10), chicken and cashew nuts, bok choy as well as some steamed rice and a serve of sweet and sour sauce.
The pork was tasty - just a shame it was riddled with pesky little bones from the way it was cut. Still, it was quite generous for $10. The chicken and cashew dish was fantastic - such a massive portion with so many cashews! The sweet and sour sauce was so good - not gelatinous and sickly but tart, sweet and obviously - sour too. However $5 for a small pot is excessive.
It was a really tasty choice - $60 for a cheap takeout however is probably what will prevent this being a regular go to when you can get a plentiful dinner for two for under $30 at other joints.
Letting down Pacific Seafood however was the service. Very abrupt and cold service from the get go, additional costs for using a card and not so much as a smile from anyone. Whilst I only had to wait 15 minutes for my order, if was just as though not one of the staff wanted to be there. Rethink the service and behaviour to your patrons - they are the reason you are there.
Possibly the best hongkong restaurant in melbourne. Crispy pork and bbq pork is to die for as well as duck. Try the dry noodle with duck👌🏼 the tofu with salted egg is delicious too. Service is quick although not the friendliest but get the food out and quite attentive. Definitely a regular visit!
Pacific house are definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in South Yarra. They have consistently good food, their most renown dishes are definitely their Peking duck and Crispy pork(get the 2 serve option which is half half), you can't go wrong.
Fantastic, authentic Cantonese food that is well worth the money.
The roast duck, the char siew, and the roast pork are nearly always must orders, as is the steamed fish. The seafood on crispy noodles / egg noodles is also a good option to have, with the choice of seafood dependant on how much you are willing to spend. Have had the lobster on noodles as well as the mud crab on noodles multiple times, and they have never let me down.
Really good and authentic Cantonese food!!! Love it...All the BBQs are nice. Portion is so big, good value for money. Service is good and prompt.
Pacific BBQ House is in South Yarra and they supposedly serve the best BBQ roast duck. But today I was not given a lot of meat. I loved the soup that came with the meal. It was pork and carrot soup. For $12 I got a lot of rice but not much meat and bok choy. As well as free tea and soup. Do come here if you like roast pork and the service which was just alright. They do have EFTPOS but it is extra. The place is a stones throw away from South Yarra station.
I like the BBQ duck.I order for pick up many times and the serve very quickly. My friend feel the pork and tofu on rice is the best in pacific.
Brought three Malaysian friends to Pacific House for lunch today. The three dishes (please see photos) we had were yummylitious. Service was great. Food served within half an hour. Will be back.
A very busy establishment on weekends. The manager on the floor is very pushy and unfriendly. He tries really hard to recommend only expensive dishes and proceeds to scowl in your face, when you don't order what he's recommended. 😒
Aside from that, food was nothing short of mind blowing!
We had the lobster cooked with spring onions and gingers. This was all on top of springy egg noodles that absorbed all the awesome goodness of this marvelous crustacean sauce. With a few slices of fresh cut chilies, this dish is complete.
Train: From South Yarra Station – 5 minute walkTram: Route 8 towards Toorak via Lygon St & City – Get off Stop 31 (Chapel St/Toorak Rd), 3 minute walk.
Branches located in CBD, Richmond and South Yarra. This restaurant really needs no further introduction.
Can get pretty busy so either book or prepare to wait.
Interior is decent for a Chinese restaurant, and tables are a bit tightly spaced.
The place was sooo busy on a Friday night, if you want a nice, relaxing meal don't come here for dinner on weekends... Service was okay overall, the staff were efficient and attentive to us. I had the chicken ribs with golden egg-yolk, which was amazing. The special fried rice was alright, tasted good and not too oily, but nothing special. We also ordered the 2-egg spinach, it was delicious, but I got a headache after drinking the soup...probably too much msg. Would probably get some takeaway in the future instead of dining in...it was too busy for me...the can't-even-hear-yourself-think kind of busy. Tasty food and decent service overall.
Went with a group of 4, the staffs are not very friendly but it's kinda normal in this kind of tea house. Always busy and packed so can't blame them , they have the best fried milk ball ( don't know exactly what the name was ) that we will come back from time to time for . Also the golden chicken wings are yum too !
I Like Food And Games
+4.5
Stick with the specialities and this place is 5/5. Possibly the best peking duck pancakes, bbq pork, and soya chicken in Melbourne. Their roast pork and roast duck are also top notch (but perhaps not the best in Melbourne)
In my opinion this location is slightly better than the other locations - and the decor is a bit nicer
TASTE - Excellent, I eat this style of food regularly and in a variety of places, Pacific house is arguably the best for Cantonese roast meats. their other dishes are good but not as exceptional as the roast meats
ALLERGIES - no/minimal gluten free options so no good if you are coeliac.
SERVICE - We are always happy with the service here but it can be a bit 'traditional' when it gets busy
VALUE - lunch meals for $12-$15 is a bargain for the area. There are more expensive options like crab, whole fish and scallops if you want to spend more
WOULD I GO BACK? - Definitely. cheap tasty food served quickly
Yummo! The food was great when we dined In and. the take away was just as good. We enjoyed the prawns, calamari, greens and fried rice. Service was quick.
A couple of lazy nights ago I stopped into this place for a 1/4 of duck & chicken breast. Tender, juicy, crispy skin, all of the things that these beautifully cooked birds should have been they were & passed my expectations with flying colours 😉
I will be back to sample some more protein in the coming weeks, hence my only scoring 3.5, the review is not over. Wait for it...!
Barramundi fish was fresh as they just serve it from the aquarium and although a bit pricey it does worth the taste. We also ordered BBQ duck and roasted pork which the pork was average but duck was nicely done. Great authentic Hong Kong atmosphere, great food and price is reasonable. Will surely go again.
It has been a long time ever since I had the weekend off and I was craving for something asian. This place has been in my list and I thought tonight is the night that it will be ticked off. I came here with a friend but she is quite limited with the sort of meat that she can eat. So we ordered chicken & prawn fried rice and one of their special which was hot chilli chicken with bean curd. The waiter who served was very good. Accommodating and friendly. He made some suggestions that will fit my friend's diet needs. Overall, I had a good experience and I will definitely come back for some of that roast duck!
My friend brought me here and he always ask for the cheap menu (they won't show it to you unless you ask), bbq on rice for around $11. They give entree soup for free!! The meat and the sauce were tasty and since then, I keep coming back to the other pacific in CBD.
Excellent food, seafood clay pot was exquisite and would thoroughly recommend to seafood lovers. Service was very efficient by friendly staff
In my opinion, this chain of Pacific BBQ is the best that I've been in. Better quality of food compared to the one in CBD. Cheap price, and hearty portions.
Been here a few times. Still the best duck i have so far. I always chose to come a bit later or a bit earlier then peak traffic. When there are too much people, the staffs will start to forget you. Food come out fairly quick and we prefer this to the one in Richmond. Prices may be on the higher end.
One of my favorite authentic Chinese restaurants. Really well done BBQ meats.
Love the fried fish fillets, Cantonese need and the eggplant clay pot dish.
Never disappoints.
Do: anything. It's an institution and it's easy to see why. Would recommend the chicken ribs or sweet/sour pork.
Don't: do the live seafood. It's very good but very expensive. Stick to what they do best, the roast meats.
Tip: go at lunch, it's so much food for so little money.
Good dining experience, nothing fancy but high quality food at a reasonable price.
The whole mud crab with ginger sauce and egg noodles is delightful.
the best road duck in Melbourne, now serving roast pidgeon. So succulent and crispy skin. Goes perfect with a James Boag beer. It's a restaurant which have the best and fresh produce which make it a regular eat out joint in South Yarra.
Came here multiple times for different types of food. Overall delicious and authentic chinese cooking! loved their wide range of dishes and seafood are always fresh. Lobster noodles were a bomb! Takeaways are great too, fast service.
One of our favourite Chinese restaurants in Melbourne! Although it's always so busy and noisy inside, the food is so authentic and service is good. Hot soup is served the moment you are seated which is really good especially on a cold winter's night! I highly recommend the lobster or crab noodles!
This place is good, but really not as good as it could be. I used to think that it does pretty decent Chinese, and it still does, but there is so much more competition now, this institution kinda have to step up!
Good seafood especially king crabs, lobsters live from their tanks. Green lip abalones ar a bargain with $66 for a pound.
One of the best roast duck n roast pork @ Melbourne.
Other dishes are pretty good too. Home made tofu with or without scallops with shiitake mushroom & seasonal vegetables, fried chicken ribs with salted egg yolk, pipi with you tiao is awesome.
Service may be lacking but good food here n they are very consistent in their quality control n serving fresh produce.
Great eat and run joint serving authentic Chinese BBQ grills. Other favs here include the crispy fried noodles and stuffed beancurd. We count this as one of our regular Chinese fixes, but am yet to try the seafood. I don't mind the hustle and bustle as you would expect, but the chief weakness has to be the rather inattentive staff (front door to the wait staff). Yes, there are far better than ones outside South Yarra, but this is quite a decent substitute if you don't feel like travelling too far. Overall 3.5/5.0, marked down for poor service.
Good restaurant. Cheap but good food. Recommended. The crispy duck, crispy pork, seafood noodles and prawn fried rice is our favourite. Salt and pepper squid and quail is also excellent. The service is very quick!
This restaurant is one of my list i go few times a year. Ive been to all of pacific bbq house restaurants and i like the south yarra one most.
Whenever i want chinese bbq meats or fresh seafoods in cheaper price than the famous chinese restaurants, i visit there and pay the half of what im paying in those expensive restaurants. The crab on egg noodle with ginger and shallot sauce and the fried barramandi fish in soy sauce are my favorite. The barramandi is only available steam one in the menu but you can ask a staff about fried one with special soy sauce. I like the pecking duck as an entrée too. I can say the crab dish is slightly less tasty than the one i go in cbd but still worth for money.
I could go every week
The crispy roast pork and bbq pork is so good
The crispy chilli quail is another stand out
Love the crocodile in xo and deep fried prawns with enoki mushrooms
Service is much better than the others
This house is a home
love thier food and professional service!roast duck is the best eveyone should try it!the seafood is freash and yum. love this restaurant and it deserves more customers

The best Chinese in South Yarra - could even be best Chinese in all Melbourne
The roast duck and roast pork was excellent, but I felt the gravy on the rice was a bit diluted. For $12, the portion size was quite small.
...this place is the quintessential Hong Kong mid-range restaurant which serves good food but polite service at best. This review is only about their South Yarra branch. Each of their branches is substantially different to the others. The Place Situated on Toorak Road, this is a good space and the good news is, they don't cramp everyone in so that you can almost eat off the plates of neighbouring diners. The ventilation and air-conditining is good and it's a typical brightly lit Chinese restaurant. Parking can be a challenge and you have to look for the side streets off Toorak Road. Things to do nearby: This is close to the South Yarra train station, and also to all the shops nearby. Como Centre is about 2 minutes away with its cinemas, and Chapel St. is around the corner. The Food Classic Cantonese fare here and their barbeque meats are of a really high stand
Whilst simple, this was a delicious tumble of fresh seafood, from plump scallops to chewy pieces of calamari, and everything else in between. The deep fried globes of wobbly tofu soaked up all the delicate umami flavours of the seafood.

210 Toorak Rd South Yarra VIC 3141 Ph: 9826 3838 Pacific Seafood BBQ is yet another Chinese restaurant, but better. I'm never too excited about Chinese food, preferring French, Japanese or Thai more, but Pacific Seafood BBQ does tick all the right boxes and make me want to go back. The problem I find with most Chinese restaurants (and it's not exclusive to Chinese restaurants) is that they become a cliche of themselves, serving the same sub standard food. They rarely innovate or change, which may be good or bad. I think the dining public has shown that they do want some change, with even the once mighty Flower Drum having to change their menu recently. I haven't been back to Pacific Seafood BBQ in years and then within the space of 7 days, I went there twice. They haven't changed their menu much, if at all, since I was last there. Again, usually this would bore me but their saving grace is that they do the dishes well. There are no shortcuts here (as far as I can taste) by using inferi
Bring's Back Memories!. Passed this place a few times & we finally decided to head in on the rainy summer afternoon we were having yesterday. The hanging glistening BBQ duck, pork belly & sweet pork hanging in the window made our mouths water! First thing we noticed was that there were more Asian patron's in the restaurant which told us, it had to be very authentic. We were greeted warmly by the staff & promptly seated followed by a very fast bowl of pumpkin, bean & pork soup as an entree & a nice hot pot of Chinese tea. We ordered the sour & hot pork on rice & mixed BBQ meat with egg based rice for the 2 of us. I have to say, I do not know why people are saying this place is disgusting with awful food & bad service. The food is as delicious, authentic & Chinese as it can get! The food reminded me of my days growing up in Malaysia where my family would gather around a round table in a Chinese restaurant on a monthly basis & have yummy Chinese dinners. It certainly hit a spot & made me happy. It has been a long time since I have had really nice Asian food that reminded me of home & I finally found it. This is my new favorite Asian restaurant. Definitely a place to go if you love Chinese food!
Reliable and authentic. We come here fairly regularly. The food is authentic cantonese cuisine, always consistent. The prices are very good for the food you get, compared to a lot of Chinese restaurants these days. The tables are placed in quite close proximity to each other, so when busy it can be quite difficult to walk around. The staff are always efficient. This is one of the great, authentic Cantonese restaurants of Melbourne, and I think most Chinese and Cantonese people would agree.
Love the duck. the counter girls are classic rude. try asking a question !
Love Quail. Quail with Spicy Salt and Quail with Japanese BBQ Sauce - great to go with a friend and we can share both dishes, so nice to be able to have it two ways. Both delicious, torn between the two. Definitely will go back for more.
I went here after reading the urban spoon reviews as it was a friends birthday, I have to say food was good and service was fast. Yes the staff may be a little abrupt but maybe cultural ?
Authentic Asian Experience. Great food and authentic service, if you know what I mean
Never dissapointed. Food is always good here. Be it the crispy roast pork or any of the seafood, the food is always tasty. Service is typical asian style of eat and 'please leave'. Doesn't stop us from coming back repeatedly.
Quality food and speedy service. We arrived tonight and were greeted with free soup and tea. Was a nice start to the evening. We ordered the satay chicken and beef hot & sour. Both were plentiful in size and equally as nice in taste. The only thing that didn't win me over was when we went to pay, the lady at the counter didn't seem interested, in fact didn't even open her mouth to say thank you. Apart from that, it was a nice experience.
Great food. Saturday night: fiancé and I did not have a reservation but the waiter found us a table within a minute. They welcome patrons with free Chinese tea and even soup. We ordered the sweet and sour pork (absolutely delicious, tangy sauce and crispy meat) with BBQ pork and roast duck (steamed rice too). Not disappointed, we were loving every single bite, big portions too. We are going back tonight! Chilled watermelon was offered for dessert: great move guys.
Poor service. Sitting here for 25 minutes at 2.45 pm on a Monday waiting for a simple rice dish. Spoke to the waiter but nothing happened so walked out. Only 16 people in the whole place!!!!
Try the crab. OMGosh. The chilli crab is the best. And the pi pi's in black bean sauce are soooooo good. Service is shocking n the loo is scary, go before u head in, but my crab and pi pi's are too good that I keep going back
Good ducks. One thing i love here, its the complimentary soup offer. i dunno what they put in their soup, i dun care, its just tasty. and the ducks are always alright, not the best not the worst. its consistently alright always, put it this way. i always insist on ordering duck breast, maybe you pay a bit extra, but you get good thick cut of meats. juicy succulent meats. nice! when i can't think of anywhere else to eat i just come here.
Best lunch. I love going here for lunch. You get SO MUCH food for so little money. I've pretty much tried everything on the lunch menu and I don't think I've ever been disappointed. A few times the waiter/waitress has forgotten to give me my free bowl of soup, but other than that it's always been a great experience.
Delicious, Authentic and Yummy. This place is excellent. Each and every time we eat here, it is consistently good. Quick service, no fuss and always fresh and tasty. We had an interstate visitor from Sydney and he was shocked - "How lucky we are to have fantastic food in Melbourne", was his comment. The beef is, melt in our mouth and tender, Greens are always fresh and perfectly cooked. Special Fried Rice is amazing. I have never had a bad meal. It is BYO and prices are fabulous. It is no wonder we keep coming back when we are in the area.
Always a joy to dine here. Always busy but the dishes they brought out is always excellent despite a busy night, every night. Goes with their staff recommendations, it can never go wrong. Best roast duck n roast pork. Beautiful seafood freshly picked from the tank. Reasonably priced, n best of all. Servings here are good.
Delicious food. The food here is good. Usually come here with family for birthdays. Typical Hong Kong style service so prepare to have menu and dishes thrown at you. I have never had any problems with the staff though.
Great food but slow service & preference given to chinese asian customers. They are sp busy its not funny, lucky if you can stop your server to add to your order. Only go with 4 plus people to be able to eat the huge aervings
Fantastic Saturday night meal. We regularly go here after the movies (or before) for a yummy, reasonably priced asian meal. It's always reliable. The service on Saturday night was exceptional as we wanted a spicy beef dish which wasn't on the menu but they made it up for us. He came over later to check we were happy. Great service and delicious food.
Very nice food!. Been to this place last week, had little abalone and lobster. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Not sure about the price though..
Good Chinese. Always good, even if they do rush you out on busy nights. Booking is always recommended as Friday/Saturday nights see a long wait/line.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is seafood only. Most of the menu is meat and even the "Eel in XO Sauce' has bacon in it.
It's not Haute Cuisine, but it is yummo.
A
Food.. Fantastic, Service.. OK, Price.. Reasonable.. Should try the soft shell crab! Best one I found so far.. Recommended!!
Worth a try. Have been twice in the last month. Delicious food. The duck was terrific as was the special fried rice, and broccoli. Vegetarian kids were well catered for. Best experience was at 10pm on a Saturday night - no booking but straight in. Not crowded so no noise issue. Friday night at 7.30, despite booking had to wait outside for quite a while in the heat as table wasn't ready. But worth the wait. Must try the crab next time..seems to be very popular with many chinese customers.
Love this place for Chinese food. Serving size very generous. Service was fine despite what I have heard and have been back many times. Peking duck the best I have ever had, delicious and big serve. Great seafood too. Will return. Highly recommend!
Yum yum fried pork. Been wanting to go here for sometime. The auspicious day was today. Order the special fried rice, deep friend pork ribs, deep fried soft shell crabs, seafood noodles and the deep friend flounder.
the best was the deep fried pork ribs, my friend who doesn't like the idea of pork .. loved it.. It was crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside.
The portions are fairly large as well, so its a good place to go with friends and family and share.
Very efficient service and as you sit down they give you complimentary soup which is delicious..

Great Service i dont care what anybody else says!. Had awesome pork overload for dinner here last night with the girlfriend.
Both the BBQ sweet pork and the roast pork belly were delicious, we both rolled out of the place.
The service was spot on we where taken cared for nicely.
One thing i must say though, ' pull down 95% of your Good Food Guide articles and mentions, it makes the place feel over tacky. We are in a chinese restaurant tho!!!! Duh.
Nice food but terrible service...... I love the peking duck and Crab noodles. but the whole fish doesn't taste that good.
service will be completely down!!!!!!
Despite the often moody service the food is phenomenal. Fast, reasonably priced and extremely delicious this is the best chokin (chinese) restaurant in Toorak. Whoever dont agree well i guess ya'll must've forgot about those damn crab noodles which the chinese waiter often misleads us into ordering two bigass crabs but the taste is still awesome. Other great menu items include crispy pork, pecking duck, cheap crab noodle with no crab (7 bucks compared to 50) and roast duck. Be sure to load up on the chilli oil its damn good!
Not that cheap, not sure why it is in the cheaps eats guide, however it is nice. Peking duck is amazing, the rest of the meal just couldn't compete. Give the pork dumplings a miss.
Suprisingly good services. OK, have always been to the Richmood one, finally get a chance to try the South Yarra one..
Have heard a lot about their bad services, so I actually expected the worst… surpise surprise, the service was quite good.. may be we were lucky.. hahaa.. anyway.. I had a good night at Pacific House at South Yarra, food of course is nice and service is good too.. will definitely go back
Crab noodles are a must try!!! Food in general is good but service is so-so. Still I go back all the time so that says a lot. I just eat and ignore the service
Solid cantonese fare. Came with a group of 5 for dinner. It's very good cantonese food, with very fast in and out cantonese service. Complimentary soup and fruit at the end. Dishes fairly priced and certainly some stuff I haven't seen at other chinese restaurants before. Would go back.
Been there twice this year. Both on Saturday evenings. Ate lobster, steamed fish, abalone from tank. Also chicken, rice, noodles, and spring rolls. Enjoyable event with well cooked, tasty food. Long queue at front door when we left at 8pm. Noisy, busy waiters, and a bit rushed= part of the urban/inner city vibe. Many chinese diners present obviously also value the authenticity of the food and environs. Fruit (only) for dessert is fine (who eats dessert at a Chinese restaurant anyway?). Order Chinese tea. Arrive on time if you book! A fun place to go. Cheap for what you receive. Recommended unless you require formal dining room style dining with quietness, humble waiters, big costs, and leisurely dining (try The Flower Drum?). I'll be back as will my teenage boys who demolished the food, liked the vibe, and prefer ice cream at home an hour later. Not a restaurant for younger children or an intimate dinner.
3.5/4 - Food 2/2 - Value 2/2 - Ambience 2/2 - Service Roast Pork, Lemon Chicken & fried Calamari to die for!! As authentic Chinese as you can get! Love the fast service but others may not Would be perfect 10/10 but a tad bit too much salt sometimes
Yep, definitely yum!!. Our CEO took us here for lunch during the week. Everything was really tasty and well presented. The food came out fast and the staff were of pretty good quality compared to your usual Chinese-Restaurant style customer service! (No offence).. We tried a variety of food and the highlights for me would have to be the Salt & Pepper Calamari, Special Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken & Mongolian Beef! Will definitely come back here again. It was so full of delicious flavours and also well priced.
Recommended dishes. 1. Quail
2. Singapore chilli crab noodles
3. Golden chicken ribs with salted duck egg yolk
4. Silky bean curd on vegetables
5. Mixed roast duck and crispy skin pork
All my absolute favourites!!
AUTHENTIC CANTONESE FOOD - HONK KONG SERVICE. Over 10 years we have been regular patrons. We come for Chinese Duck hanging in the window or; Char Siu BBQd Pork. We take it home and enjoy it in comfort with stir-fried vegetables steamed rice and chilli tofu with a glass of wine.
Or, we queue in a noisy environment akin to any Hong Kong cafe where the staff are brash, indifferent and wanting your table for the next punters. Hah, our skin thickens with time.
But... for a quick meal the food is fresh and consistently good Lightly floured whole flounder; Salt n' Pepper Calamari. Like HK we'll be back - no offence taken.
Soft-shell crab. Guaranteed to be packed throughout the week. bookings essential. Usually get take-away Soft shell crab, scallops with chinese brocolli and rice. Big servings, always satisfied.
Almost three thumbs up!. I spent a lot of time in Hong Kong and PS BBQ is exactly like a lot of the better food restaurants over there. Noisy, brash, bustling - dont go there for a quiet romantic evening.
But do go there if you love well cooked "Chinese" food with a particular emphasis on seafood, duck and bbq pork.
Food styles are from many regions rather than just one, but probably leans towards Cantonese. Favorite dishes are the pork, chili prawns in egg sauce with spinach, minced pork with eggplant and great spring rolls!
Can be expensive especially the live fish - Coral trout says it is $75 per lb - but the serves are generous so dont over order.
As to the service. We come here a bit so dont notice it so much but it can be a bit brusque at times as everyone is racing around trying to keep everyone happy. And there definitely used to be a dragon guarding the cash register but she's been replaced by an apprentice dragon!
Atmosphere - great if you like the busy, noisy HK stuff which I do on the right night.
Good but not cheap. We go here for take it away and the food is very tasty. Dined in once and used the lavatory and have decided it best I not dine in again. But as I said the food is pretty good. Try the tofu with prawn stuffing and the salt and pepper squid. The beef stir fry are my husbands choice. There is no dessert - instead they offer an orange and I like that.
Amazing Chinese food you seriously can't go wrong with pacific. All the ingredients are so fresh. Highly recommend ordering the colorful specials on the walls.
Great for a quick meal. This place is great - but don't think you can wine and dine at leisure - its in /out. this place is worth it - its all good food with a quick turnover so its always fresh.
i like the duck on rice - always good for a pop-in before the movies or on the way home.
Fast & Delicious. Liked the speed of service. Already had tea and soup delivered to the table right after we sat down. Food came quickly as well and was very appetizing.
Not a good idea to go without a booking.
My local Chinese. Okay, it's my old local Chinese when I was living in South Yarra. How I've missed this place!! Yes, the food can be "suspect" with MSG and the curt almost rude service can be offputting, but heck for the variety, great food at very reasonable price I have repeatedly came back for more. Try the roast duck (no it's not Old Kingdom or Flower drum), a simple chinese broccoli with XO sauce or one of the fresh seafood done any way you like, you won't be dissapointed.
Good food but inconsistent service. This restaurants has one of the best Cantones style roast duck in Melbourne. Food here is value for money but the service ranges from good to bad. During dinner with an overseas friend, we ordered a combination BBQ dish of roast duck & roast pork. The rest of our dishes arrived quickly but we had to wait about 20 minutes for the BBQ roast meats. I spoke to the waiters on 3 occassins but nobody came back to us about what was happening. The frustrating part was seeing other diners who had come in later receiving their orders of BBQ meats well before us.
Pretty good! Went for dinner here last night-service was very good. The restaurant has a very casual feel interior. Loved the spring rolls here, tasted freshly home made! The Special fried rice was very good too. The Salt n chilli calamari was a bit underwhelming, while tender, was under spiced and a bit oily on the batter. Other than that all other dishes were quite nice. Recommend the shredded beef with sweet n sour sauce and meat spring rolls. You can also byo wine which is good. Prices are reasonable, Mains servings are generous. 7/10 rating by me.
An oldie but a goodie. BBQ and Roast pork are a must when going here. The spicy salty quail is also great. Not a healthy dining experience but for the money great value and although some things are average to bad some things are top notch, if you know what to order this is cheap and cheery Chinese that has no peer.

Service seems to be improved recently; however the taste is always certain. They have yummy food, love sits roated duck, the best in Melbourne
Poor Service, Great Authentic Cantonese Food. There is a reason this place is so popular. This is the place for those who have a real taste for authentic Cantonese food. You go there and you do not mind the almost rude service, the crowded and unattractive place because you have discerning taste and you want real Cantonese food, and not the watered down and sloppily cooked version that are mostly found in so many restaurants, even very expensive ones, around Australia.
Don't expect decent service. Just be glad you can get seated. Very tasty, honest and consistently good food for those who can appreciate it.
You almost have to have lived in Hong Kong, Canton or a similar place or have acquired a real taste to truly appreciate the food here. If you are the type who want good service, a pleasant surrounding, or a more comfortable place to drink, go somewhere else and let those who can appreciate the restaurant have their seats.
Peking duck, salt and pepper calamari, scallops with ginger and snow peas. The Fawlty Towers of HK BBQ.
Roasted Dishes! THUMB UP. Have to queue to get a sits. Pacific House prepared the best BBQ dishes in Melbourne. I prefer this south yarra branch instead of richmond branch as it looks newer and cleaner.
If you're in a rush.... If you're in the mood for a quick HK fix, I fully recommend coming here. Food is tasty and although the resturant is pretty cramped, it's always packed out. Tables are turned over quickly and if you're late for your booking, don't expect for them to hold the table for you. Highly recommend the roast pork !
This is a Hong Kong restaurant. The food here is done perfectly, is pretty affordable and you get in fast, but they expect you to get out fast too.
This is Hong Kong. Great food. Really efficient, Really fast service, Really crowded.
At the same time, Being a Hong Kong restaurant, they bring about an impersonal service, they can be rude and they will make you feel uncomfortable if you are sitting there too long after you finished your food.
go there for the food, ignore the service, after all if you want to pay for good service, go to David's just off Chapel street in Prahran where the portions are less, bill is twice the price but the service is much much better.

Don't expect 100% service.... My favorite dishes has to be the ones from the 'roast dishes' sub-heading.
Favorite: Roast Duck & Roast Pork.
I have never eaten Roast Pork that tasted that good. But then again, maybe they just got lucky with the pork delivery that day. Roast Duck was also a tasty one, its always my favorite to order at a Chinese restaurant. Skin so crispy, yummy, Love how they grill it first before bringing it out to crisp the skin. Cos it's not good when soggy.
Other main dishes? Nothing special. Too much MSG. But what do you expect from a Chinese restaurant? They pack on the MSG like no other. Its a competition.
Service: thumbs down.
You're only coming here for the food, not the service. Whoever expects good service, try some place else. I didn't expect good service because I've had my fair share of restaurants that has really really bad servicing, but gotta suck it in if you want good Roast dishes.
Good Chinese food!!. Their food is really Chinese, I mean...REAL Chinese. :D
I've Chinese background. Their food is like what my granny cooked at home. But the restaurant is always too crowded - -"
Great seafood. Great prices for delicious seafood. Everyone's right about the service, but you can easily forgive them once the food arrives. We had crab with noodles, pippies and squid. All tasted more than great. Will return soon, with an advanced booking of course!
If you want a nice atmosphere and good service don't come here, but if you want great food that is quite cheap this is the place to go. I come here once a month and have not been dissappointed yet. Now to make the staff smile at least once...
It's an addiction. No pretenses about the service - prepare to feel somewhat rushed from beginning to end. Some of the staff are rude, others perhaps sacrifice niceties for efficiency. There seems to be a policy of bringing out the oranges 15 minutes after the arrival of the food, followed by the bill 5 minutes after the arrival of the oranges. If you have not taken the message by then, staff will start hovering around your table, attempting to remove partially-eaten dishes.
Nevertheless, we cannot stop going back - the kitchen repertoire is enormous, the servings are large, the food arrives quickly, they tend to do everything on their menu well. Recommend the seafood pumpkin bowl, the salted fish fried rice and the roast meat lunch specials which are great value. But generally it's hard to go wrong at Pacific.
Always fast and always top notch roasts! Helps if you speak Cantonese, thusly you can adjust to your taste! Brilliant.
Nice old school Chinese restaurant. Not many like this anymore. Still does it well enough.
Peking duck! Dewiiine! :)
Ate with a group of 14 and had sample of eleven dishes. highlights were the roast duck and chilli crab, jellyfish and crispy pork were also great
Roast duck is great!! Especially with the chilli oil..
We arrived back in Melbourne early Sunday morning. We headed home to have a look at the state of our renovations. This was a picture of what it looked like on Sunday. But since then, the walls are up and the fittings will be going in soon. We are really e
