Review Topo Gigio - Toorak

Had dinner at this lovely Italian restaurant. When we entered we were greeted and welcomed by the friendly staff. I ordered the spaghetti Marinara and it tasted amazing, the fish was very fresh and the pasta was cooked to perfection. My husband had the Veal Parmigiana and said it was very nice. The rest of the table had some beautiful meals as well. Sizes are quite large but i managed to finish mine as it was too good to waste. I will definitely be returning. Also it is best to make a booking. 😍😋🤤

This restaurant does not disappoint. I’ve been impressed by every dish I’ve tried, particularly the pasta. Such generous and delicious serves. The service is second to none. Extremely friendly and hospitable, they’ll make you feel like a part of the family. I’ll continue to come back!

What an absolute treasure and surprise of a place! Topo Gigio, is so unassuming to look at but OMG this has to be some of the best Italian food. It's not super fancy but everything they do, they do very well and you will not be disappointed. Great full menu with all the Italians classics, pasta is on point and the veal parmigiana is just like nonna use to make. Serve sizes are decent but not overwhelming and you won't leave with that yucky overfull feeling. Service is prompt and friendly. Great drinks menu and wine selection and awesome for kids. Definitely try this place as you will not be disappointed

This is a restaurant that's been around for a real long time yet I'd never eaten at yet. Their website looked lovely with delicious sounding dishes, so thought we'd give it a go. When we walked in, we could tell straight away that it was nothing fancy (considering it's on Toorak Road, Toorak; a fairly prestigious part of town). But the staff greeted us warmly and showed us to our table right away. There was a delicious sounding special on the board (that we found ourselves as the staff never pointed the board out to us), but instead I opted for a Chicken Fillet dish I'd seen online that sounded really good. However ... when it came out, it was nothing like the menu online said. It was meant to be a chicken fillet with an avocado sauce and vegetables. Instead, it was a chicken fillet with a tomato based sauce (which I find gross with my chicken) and a quarter of an avocado on top. Because I asked for chips on the side, they left out the vegetables. It was the most uninspiring looking dish I've had out in any memory, and looked like something I could make at home. While it tasted ok (except for the tomato sauce), the chicken was tough to cut and made it annoying to eat. The chips were nice, but some fresh vegetables would have been good to go with it. Wanting something just a little sweet to finish dinner off with, I ordered the Chocolate Mousse and thankfully it was nice. It was rich and plentiful, but looked like it had just been spooned out into its little bowl without much care. The restaurant itself is in need of an update. It's tired looking and I sat facing the kitchen which isn't a pleasant view and I hate when restaurants are fitted out like that. There wasn't much ambience with exceptionally quiet music playing. The staff at least were quite friendly and accomodating, so that was a bit of a saving grace. I did think the prices were a little over the top. For the chicken dish and a mousse (with no beverage) it was $45 which I think was steep. Ultimately, with the disappointment of the meal overall, and the pricing, I can see myself eating out at any of the hundreds of other Italian restaurant in Melbourne before trying it here again, sadly. Even from the pictures I'm adding to this review, you can see that it's nothing very fancy at all.

This is the restaurant that you want as friendly staff as soon as you walk in you are welcome. It felt like I was visiting friends for a dinner party as atmosphere there makes it so homely. Food was delicious as going to be my hangout. You don't see this kinda of restaurants anymore as it's inviting has a great feel about it. It's the kind of restaurant that you can grab a group of friends and sit down enjoy a meal and a laugh and it's not noisey. Staff are so helpful there service is fautless. I would recommend anyone to go and check it out. 10/10 all round as really value for money.

Topo Gigio encapsulates the Italian style of dining, urging patrons to indulge in an intimate gathering while cherishing a meal which honours classical Italian flavours. Topo Gigio’s diverse menu of Italian cuisine allows the chefs to use the finest ingredients – taking into account availability and seasonal variations as well as tempt regulars with something new and interesting.

We've enjoyed both of our visits to Topo Gigio. Such a pleasure to be there, from the warmth of the welcome through the pleasure of the dining experience to the great value.

The food is beautifully and meticulously prepared, flavoursome, hearty and authentic. The service is personal, warm and great.

Great slow-cooked Italian mains are so warmly on these cool Winter nights and the deserts are to die for - hard to choose a winner here but I can't go past the Tiramisu. Ever!

4.5/5 - As our local was packed solid on the weekend we came here as we are a sucker for BYO - especially when Vintage Cellars is across the road!

We sat out front and had a great meal - the garlic bread was packed full of garlic and was so buttery good. Big servings as well!

We then had the lasagne which was a generous serve of lean meat with lots of béchamel and sauce - was perfect.

I had the chicken pasta with olives, sun dried tomatoes and lots of delicious creamy sauce. Penne was cooked perfectly too.

Best thing? No charge for BYO! We paid $57 and I thought it was worth way more than that. Such terrific value!!

Really good quality eat in or take away.
Spaghetti Marinara has top quality seafood. Pastas & salads (that you can view in bar) are fresh and consistently good. A family favourite in the village for years.
Italian at It's best

We can't come to Melbourne without visiting Topo Gigio in Toorak Village

It is a small family run restaurant that oozes with charm as the staff makes you feel comfortable at home and the traditional Italian fare is served and enjoyed

The food the service and the genuine attention of staff in a family run business make it a spot we will always come to when in Melbourne and don't hesitate to recommend to friends.

This is a family owned restaurant, and is our favourite on Toorak by far. It's unpretentious, with authentic Italian to die for food. Their baked New York cheese cake is like nothing you've ever tasted in your whole life, lighter than air and made by the owner. It's a sophisticated yet down to earth vibe, our Friday night regular.

Very impressive service and Italian dishes. What an impression for first outing in Toorak!

Probably the most boring Italian restaurant we have ever eaten in. Tastless boiled vegetables and a dull menu. Suggest you walk down the road to Fiorinis or Romeos. This place is stuck in a 1970's timewarp!

Been coming to topos for the last 10 years- this place is an institution! The staff (the owners children) are so welcoming and provide exceptional service. The meals are generous and cooked as though mum was making it. Owners Nick and Joe are always around to have a chat. Love this place!

A wonderful display of seafood and the tomato base was quite delicious.
