Review Manhattan - Toorak

Friendly staff and tasty food with great portion. Definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in Melbourne!
Angie Bee
Welcome Thai has been around for years and I'm assuming through a few changes of hands. I've been here a few times and the food is always delicious. Pictured here is the Chicken Satay that I had for entree, and the Chicken Fried Rice for the main meal. Both were very good. I would say the service was a little slow. They, like many other places, annoyingly concentrate on take out orders first, and now that Uber Eats exists, this just adds to the backlog of orders to get out. Therefore, if you're sitting at the restaurant, you end up waiting much longer than usual while they fulfil those first. Frustrating, but as long as you're not in a rush, then I guess there's more time to chat with your friends. The decor is simple but pretty and there's a lot of street parking outside so usually pretty easy to get a parking space. Overall, I would come here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a good Thai meal out. You can bring the kids or just have dinner for two.

Really friendly staff, food was delicious and it came out quickly. Tastefully decorated. I recommend the Thai beer! Good bang for your buck. ( and they do take away)

The most amazing Thai food 10/10. The pad Thai (vego and meat) is amazing along with the vego spring rolls and curry puffs. I can’t wait to be back for more!!!

Cosy, bookings not necessary. Delicious food.

Went here Sunday night. Ordered several dishes. The Gang Karee / Yellow curry was very poor quality chicken thigh that had the texture and taste of hard rubber and also did not taste like it was blended with the sauce at all. Barely ate any of this dish and advised the waitress of this. No apology given and waitress proceeds to tell the chef. Upon payment still charged full price for a horrible dish that was mostly uneaten. Other dishes were mediocre. No courtesy or care about the food or customers in this place. Overall one star experience. Not recommended.

A true delight with number of exceptionally delicious offerings. Definitely try the satay chicken & golden basket. Only knock is that at peak times the kitchen can be slow but you'll find it's worth the wait!

Great flavour - loved the Pad Thai, highly recommended! We ordered takeaway and it arrived hot and quickly! Only feedback would be the amount of onion in the Massaman curry and the stir-frys - will make sure we request little to no onion next time. Will definitely order again !

Amazing food in such an amazing location of Toorak. Don’t have to break the bank for quality food. Service was exceptional and would definitely go back again 👏🏽.

We loved visiting this trendy restaurant/cafe in Toorak. We sat outside, and were instantly welcomed! We ordered a variety of different dishes including the favourite chop chop salad that is the most popular dish on their menu! It’s a super light and healthy option that is simple but delicious! My partner enjoyed the sirloin steak, while I had the fish of the day. Highly recommend visiting this cafe, great place for families and meeting up with friends!

What happened ?? This used to be an establishment restaurant which Elias ran. It was hip and trendy and people would have a good salad or just a coffee. I came here after a 5 plus year absence and it is terrible. The tea was ok (you can’t ruin tea) and the salmon stack was shocking. I asked for no avocado and it was salmon and lettuce. It was unappetising and not filling. I would avoid.

Working in the area and needing something hearty for lunch, the burger I had did not disappoint in the slightest. Crispy lettuce, juicy patty and a good side of chips made a cold day even more bearable!

My partner and I visit Manhattan annually for our new year goal setting breakfast. There’s good intentions there but it tends to evolve into one of us reading the paper and the other taking photos of food (you can guess who’s who). Either way this is one of his favourite places for breakfast. For me I find it a little too quiet. It’s generally locals and I tend to like a little more atmosphere with my eggs. Breakfast fare is also very simple which appeals to the other half but I personally enjoy more elaborate dishes for my morning meal. They operate all the way through to dinner so I think that’s where their focus lies. If you are in the area they can certainly service your basic breakfast needs
Usually love this place and come here for the occasional breakfast but won't be coming again. Had a shakshuka which states chorizo was included, recieved my meal and half way through realised there was no chorizo at all. When I asked if chorizo was meant to be in there as per the menu, the waiter said oh yeh the chef sometimes make it vegetarian. So if I had said nothing, they would've charged me the same with no chorizo and didn't even ask whether i wanted a vegetarian option or not. I didn't even get an apology. I brought it up when paying and still didn't get an apology, just a 'oh yeh I've told the chef he just doesn't like putting the chorizo in'. I said, 'then take it off your menu!' Really disappointed!

Such a great cafe! Coffees are outstanding, service is incredible and not to mention the famous chop chop salad is seriously mouthwatering! Can't get enough of this place ❤️❤️

Staff are so friendly here. Came in on Mother's Day with my sister and mum and were treated wonderfully. Amazing food, the coconut rice pudding is delicious and they have amazing chai's and coffee. 10/10!!

Absolutely terrible. We went this morning for Mother's Day breakfast with my husband and two kids. Waited for a long time in the restaurant to even be acknowledged as a customer. Finally got seated and had our order taken. They forgot half of our coffee orders and when we reminded them it still took another 10 minutes. I would have thought that forgotten coffees would be a priority but apparently not. Very average coffee overall. Then when the food arrived the kids toast was cold and had gone hard. There was a hair in my meal so I sent it back. My husbands breakfast burrito was inedible. That tortilla was pretty much paste. There was a Mother's Day special on for a free mimosa for mums. Never happened, nor did I hear any customer being offered this. We were never once asked how everything was or would we like any more drinks/coffees. Overall terrible service, coffee and food. Will never go back.

This place looks great and serves very good food. The artistry and presentation come with a heftier price tag but that is to be expected for both the location and the work gone into the dishes. Service can be on the slow side however, make sure you book ahead for a table, especially on Sunday mornings!

When you think of Toorak you are probably not thinking of Manhattan NY, but this is becoming more and more of a trend in Toorak. Just around the corner from this restaurant is the Manhattan Toorak apartment complex: newly built, it seems as though this restaurant set the trend for the Big Apple's influence in our suburb.

I have come here for a wine with friends and the drinks selection is what you would expect of Toorak, you will find what you are after. The atmosphere here is quintessential Toorak, you have the rich families and young people dining out. It is fun to come here for some Toorak people watching, but I personally find the atmosphere a bit overwhelming. The black and white interior design looks good in the photos on here, but in person just looks tacky (my opinion). The bathrooms look cool, however, and are always super clean.

Cuisine is the ever-ambiguous genre of Modern Australian.

Just like Romeos this is a must-do Toorak experience that everyone should do once. Rinse and then see if you want to repeat! Personally it's not to my taste, but it's always buzzing at Manhattan so they have a loyal customer base.

Location and premises is good. Food is generally not bad. Waiter service is friendly and helpful but the owner who is sometimes behind the counter is unpleasant and lacking social awareness which is a key in this industry. Shame the previous owner sold the business, he was fantastic.

I notice last review is some 7 months ago. With good reason. Locals keep a low profile when critical.
The Manhatten needs some loving ownership, or management, and a new chef!
Locals go when the sun is out. Service is good, but....

Excellent food and excellent service! The coffee is spot on and when an error was made with our dessert, we were given it for free. Will be a regular here ;)

Hands down the best coffee in Toorak. The woman with the short light pink hair is one amazing barister! We ordered a big brekky and gnocchi. Gnocchi was a smaller portion and a little on the pricey end but overall was a delicious meal. Would definitely go back. Service 5/5.

Thank you so much to Andy and the team at Manhattan who really looked after my friends and myself on Sunday when having brunch upstairs to celebrate my birthday. As always the food and service was great, still one of my favourite places to brunch in Melbourne!

...biggest qualm I have with the place is that the menu wasn't exciting and I didn’t get that nice little feeling of anticipation that I like to get when I order...

The service and ambiance is extra ordinarily good. The food is gastronomical. The presentation and the flavours of the food is impressive. We will certainly be back and we highly recommend you to do the same. Big thanks to all the staff for such a fabulous experience !

The service here is impeccable, very friendly, attentive, family orientated. The food is... Words cannot describe some of the dishes, they just melt in your mouth if I had to pick "food orgasm"!
Shirley Wang
Very poor customer services, been sitting outside for half an hour and nobody ever serves me!!!

Generous portions of well presented food. Staff disinterested. No flexibility with menu options.
Jason
Great coffee, great service, the boys really enjoyed the meals
Sally T
Not good value here, snapper overcooked and too pricey. Coffee was burnt and front staff still had a dessert on our bill that they'd run out of. New cafes seem better value now.

Pretty enjoyable. Had the chicken schnitzel, was very enjoyable, great flavours and a lot of food! chips were good, salad was fresh. Aoli left a bit to be desired. All round good meal, if a little expensive at $27. I guess that's toorak village though. service was friendly, not intrusive. would reccomend.

I've eaten at Manhattan a dozen times over the past 3 mths. Service has always been great & food has always been delicious ... But tonight, whilst the food remained top notch, service was shabby. We arrived at around 8pm & had finished our mains by 9pm. Took a while to clear (only 3 other tables of people) and didnt offer dessert menu, even though they were aware we wanted it as we mentioned it to the waiter when ordering our mains (don't want to fill up too much as we had to make room for dessert). We waited and waited - nothing! Just left us there til 9.30 with no offer to top up drinks or order coffees or desserts. It was a birthday dinner too which made it more disappointing. Hope this is not a sign of things to come!

Brilliant. Ate there on Saturday food fantastic NZ Blue cod to die for service. 10/10 wine selection excellent look forward to returning again soon!

Brilliant!. Was very happy with the food and service.

Breakfast for 2, Saturday.
The wait staff were very nice in finding us a table on a sunny overcrowded Saturday. Coffees and water came out promptly, however mine was a touch cold. The muesli had a great flavour to it, very unique, and my partners meal was huge! Kudos to the presentation of the food, and the decor.
Overall: Food 8.5, Service 8, Price 8

A must!. The service and food here is great! Probably my go to restaurant in the Toorak area.

Cosy Dinner / Scrumptious Breakfast. This is the perfect restaurant for an easy yet delicious dinner. Food is always fabulous and the specials changie frequently.

Tonight we sampled the Snapper, green beans with fetta and the apple crumble.... all cooked to perfection.

This also hits my Top Five for a great Sunday morning Fry Up... Fluffy scrambled eggs - not everyone can do it!

Pasta is surprisingly amazing.. I have 3 visits to review.

1. Had the "Meat Packers Wagyu Bolognaise with spaghetti" (7 out of 10) and my boyfriend had the "Linguini with Prawns, Chilli, Garlic, Coriander & Lemon Butter" (8 out of 10). The service was great, the waitress had served us previously and seemed a little over friendly but it's not so bad (tends to over compliment or attempt to start a big conversation.. we were looking at photos and she got involved). - Back to the food - The spaghetti was surprisingly delicious and it was better than the place next door where I normally get my pasta (which is still great) and the Linguini was even better! If you like a bit of chilli and garlic, this dish is for you!

2. My boyfriend and i came back for lunch, he ordered the "Crispy Calamari" (6/10) and I had the "Fish N Chips" (4/10). The service was great, the waitress had greeted us with a lovely smile and welcomed us in.

The Calamari was soft and easy to bite in a good way, however the salad it came with was a bit plain. If you're picky and weirded out by seafood this isn't for you.. my boyfriend is and found that the "purple stuff" from the calamari was unappealing to look at and eat (so ! ate it!).

The Fish N Chips - their chips are always yummy however the fish was not so good.. The batter was too sweet, it tasted like my donut recipe and the fish did not seem fresh at all! It lacked flavour and could be improved.

3. My boyfriend and I still returned even after the Fish N Chips and I had ordered the spaghetti again which was just as good as the last and my boyfriend ordered the "Home Made Gnocchi with tomato, pine nuts, basil & shaved grana padano" (9 out of 10). Service was average.. the younger male staff don't seem to be as charming as the others but we were hungry and it didn't bother us too much. The Gnocchi was soooo sooo good! It was creamy, looked amazing and made me drool watching my boyfriend eat it all! Only downside would be that there wasn't enough on the plate. There were about 12 pieces of gnocchi and just enough sauce on the plate, however it still made out lunch date one to remember!

Overall Manhattan is a great place, and even though the pasta next door is great, it would be good to visit Manhattan for their pasta too.

A few more points:
- the time to prepare the food is a bit slow, so I wouldn't recommend you go if you're after a quick lunch.

- The staff are always polite however they do often forget your drink orders (has happened a few time) so make sure to be clear

- They do have a few menu items that seem a bit average for the prices they charge however you will not be disappointed with their gnocchi and wagyu bolognaise!

Great service, atmosphere and food. I had the flounder which I would highly recommend.

Food was good, but the service was hugely disappointing. Had to wait 45 minutes for our entree, then when our mains arrived we were offered mustard with our steaks which didn't arrive at our table until 20 minutes later, when we had almost finished our meals. The waiters were inexperienced and disappointing, considering the price of the meals. Won't be returning.
Coffee On The M1
Yum but. Love the flat iron eggs.
What I don't enjoy is the owners rudeness. Asked him about a reservation and he looked at me like I was beneath him. Didn't even answer me. Thankfully a helpful waiter showed us to our table.
Love the bread they serve the eggs with. Coffee was lovely as well.

Excellent service. Manhattan should be commended for its service above all. They were really fantastic, making everybody feels welcome and anticipating every need. And the place was very busy at that time. Food and coffees were quite good. We loved it.

Went for a late lunch today, really enjoyed the food ( club sandwich ) had a food allergy and waitress was very helpful with aiding me. I little pricey but I left happy and full!! :) great work thanks guys

Perfect brunch spot. Flat Iron Eggs are perfection. Waiters are amusing. I'm planning to make this place my local brunch haunt.

Bit disappointed. I ordered the lamb burger. I was not a huge fan, my other friends meals looked good though, so maybe just don't order the lamb burger if you don't want a carb overload!

Yum!. Best Breakfast in Toorak - Best chicken parma in Melbourne - you can't go wrong here - though wine is very expensive - best to BYO even though corkage is high

Great set up, perfect service

Fantastic experience, great service. Management are warm and attentive and the Big Brekky was BIG with fresh, well prepared produce and non wet poached eggs, perfect.
Being a barista and snobby for coffee I recommend that you can get a delicious coffee here.
I will return when I'm back in Melbourne, and am eyeing the dinner menu, YUM!
Delroddick
Better Options. I find Manhattan loud, overpriced and frankly not that good.
The service is not attentive and the food lacks flavour, why not take a short walk down the street to quaffs.
Rizzle
Outstanding. Fab menu - clean simple and well priced. Chop chop (Israel salad) with a boiled egg and salmon is a must have. Best salad in Melbourne.
Rebecca R
Great service lovely management and amazing breakfast

Just dropped in for a coffee and the place is pretty good. It's decked out awesomely with NYC pics. The menu looked tasty and would be worth a visit for dinner. Classy setup! Chai latte wasn't too bad either.
