Review Seafood On Malvern - Toorak

Lucinda Kimpton
Lured in by the recent make over at Fish Hawk in the Hawksburn village; I have recently been buying our fresh seafood here and it is a cut above the what I had previously purchased from the markets. Being in such a convenient location I've even added their freshly cooked prawns and lobster rolls to my lunch repertoire. Delicious!

TERRIBLE! As per other peoples comments the fish and seafood is absolutely not fresh! I had to throw it out when I got home. Service was very ordinary too... And I watched them put "fresh" salads in the window 15mins before they were due to close so I guess they will be tomorrow's "fresh" salad. This place is a health department nightmare!

This is the amount of tar tar sauce they gave me ?!? Not good enough...nothing impressive for the money also no salt wouldn't return

Stale and processed! Just moved into the area and looking for a new local F&C shop. Seafood on Malvern definitely won’t be !! . we tried it twice just to give them the benefit of the doubt but fish is not fresh , the shop smelt very very fishy the second visit , so much so I saw two people walk in and walk straight out ! The “ calamari “ rings are cheap processed rubbish and the chips are crispy but taste like precooked ones you get from the supermarket. Will will not be going back .

Charged me 18$ for a 200g blue eye, got my order wrong and didn't add chips, the person serving was very rude and refused to do anything about and argued back. I weighed the fish when I got home to be sure, Never going back, terrible.

Excellent Quality, Fair Prices, Very Clean & Efficient. The Best Fish'n' Chips in Melbourne. Exactly how fish'n'chip shops should be.

Fresh seafood is priced per 100g. Clever marketing. Cooked prawns were effectively $120 per kg yesterday. Not sure how they sleep at night. Go here if you love being ripped off.

Asked for a WELL DONE BURGER with cheese, onion, bacon & no sauce. Pretty easy order, but NO !!! I get an egg & bacon roll. Nice clean shop but totally incompetent staff. Never again unless under new management.

Easily the measliest piece of grilled flake ever sold to a customer. Didn’t even touch the sides. $7.50 for a sliver of fish? Only in Toorak.

When I have shopped in store or ordered over the phone I have always received great friendly service, very knowledgeable fishmongers and great tasting food.

I have never eaten here but regularly buy fish to cook at home. The crew are great, the choices are varied. Fish fillets have always been perfect, fresh and fabulous. I tried the salmon patty's. They were wet to the point of sloppy. Presentation was not a strong suit but, they tasted okay.

Decent fish and chips in the area. Definitely lots of seafood options if you also want to buy it fresh. Tasty salads, especially the Waldorf and coleslaw. Nothing amazing but you can get a decent fuss free meal here during the week. The place was buzzing with orders even on a Monday night.

My absolute favourite fish and chip shop in Melbourne! The chips are super tasty and never over-cooked. The serving sizes are generous and the food is always well seasoned. If flake is your thing, you will not be disappointed! Consistently good fish and chips, with great service to boot.

Had veggie burgers here the other day. They were pretty good and the vegetable patty wasn't too crumbly like they are at some other places. The burger ingredients were fresh and the bun was a bit different but still ok. The chips were acceptable but nothing special. The service was friendly, although a woman also working there not serving us was acting rude toward customers in line. The main owner guy Wayne seems pretty nice though despite looking Bruce Jenner.

Best fish and chips in Melbourne. Love this place, there is a great selection of fish and it's always Fresh. They have gluten free batter but the way they grill the fish makes it delicious even without batter, great healthy salads too.

Worst fish and chips I've had in a long time! The chips were soggy even more soggy then the chips you get at a football match. The fish was like a big frozen fish finger! #neveragain

Great fish and chips. Fresh fish is CRAZY expensive!

Very rude staff. Women behind counter mucked up my order. When I told her the fish she had given me wasn't what I had ordered, rather than apologizing for the error, she got very rude and agressive and banned me from the store. The fish was overcooked as well. Prices are higher than elsewhere too.

Lovely food - Service needs a smile. It was on reading all the other reviews that I wanted to add a comment here as well. The fish is lovely - I'm a Kiwi, so a snapper fanatic and it's just divine. Prawns weren't that nice, but my step mother who is a very fussy flake-only eater said it was delicious. But the service... It is not customer orientated. I found myself saying thank you multiple times, hoping for a smile or a thank you back from the chap that served me on Friday... When we went back (within a minute - as in no impact to cooking time of overall food) and added to our order, he seemed mildly irritated, rather than pleased with the extra business. I will continue to go there for the quality but the staff seem a bit over it. Maybe they save their smiles for old timer regulars?

Garlic prawns drowned in ammonia but other seafood is nice albeit expensive. Woman behind counter incredibly rude and aggressive.

The chips were under cooked, the fish was ok, was quite expensive, small serves, and was told I couldn't get a pineapple fritter because 'we're not in Queensland'. I won't be going back.

Best Fish & Chips In Melbourne. I am a regular here and find the staff friendly and great, they know everyone's name and I am always served with a smile and a chat. Fish is beautiful and fresh and being able to have the option to choose your own fish from the cabniet to have them cook is an added plus. From freshly grilled, to panko crumbed and lovely crisp light batter. couldn't ask for anymore. Thank you Seafood On Malvern.

Rude rude rude service which is bad enough but my piece of fish was without question the worst I've ever had, the fish itself was dry and the the batter was like a piece of inedible leather. Even the dog left it.
