Review Marquee Lounge Bar - Toorak

Ursula Donoghue
This is a pub with TOP RESTAURANT DINING. Great variety of things to eat. It was for my son's birthday. Of course he and his friends go there on a regular basis. So his suggestions was to get a number of plates and share. What a GREAT idea. Good choice of wine for us oldies 😉 .

Overall an excellent experience. The booking staff were informative and quirky, which was nice. On arrival we were seated quickly. The management really puts a lot of effort and it shows through the efforts of the staff. Venue was warm and relaxed. I liked the Marquee tent, and the food was hot, tasty and our drinks waiter was always nearby. If your around the Trak, I'd recommend visiting as it's friendly and a great night out. Thanks to Kayla too! See you at the Singles night Grrrr. ;-) Kishanie & Kent.

Probably the worst dining experience I've ever had, when we arrived we were seated and then moved 5 minutes later, we weren't brought menues until 20 minutes later when we asked for them. We were brought the wrong drink order twice, and the drinks took about another 20 minutes to come out. The entree came out an hour after we arrived with the main following about 45 minutes later, when the main did come out the plates from our entree were still on the table. I had ordered the risotto as it was the only vegetarian main, I believe it was quite good but By the time our food arrived we were too drunk to enjoy it, my partners "medium" steak was cooked thru on one side and then raw on the other. When the bill came out there was an extra $100 of things we hadn't ordered. A couple of the staff were really lovely and saved the experience a little.

Weekday night. Groupon voucher so great value. Normally pricey. Meals were excellent. Lush decor. Different and interesting.
Vikram Marwaha
Nice decor okay food but more than an hour between first and second course and the mains were not bought all together, adding another 20 Minutes. Will give another shot as any kitchen can have a bad day

Has a great night at Marque for Gary Spry's birthday bash. Great surroundings and food. Meet up with friends not seen in years.

The vintage feels of this bar really made the experience. The staff were also so lovely and the bartender was a hoot

The dance floor is good but not large. A good place to have a drink.

We tried Rum and coke with few beers nothing new. Ambiance was okaish could have been better. When we went there it was Bollywood night it was fun listening to Hindi & Punjabi songs.<br/>I am rating this bar 4 only because it was Bollywood music and my friends otherwise its very ordinary bar.

Horrible<br/>Some sort of night club x bar x restaurant. Loud music, security, all to much. It's basically a worn out place living in the past.<br/>Below average food, surrounding weird, friendly waitress, don't bother, old and worn out place just like it was in the 1990's. Pub style food. Very expensive. I would not bother on this place. <br/>Entree 15, main 35, dessert, 15, top restaurant prices and this place does not compare in anyway. Plenty of other places to eat at.

Went there recently and must say its not a keeper....I would probably not rush back but it was worth a try.   I used a voucher and maybe it would work better as part of their entertainment package.   The voucher was $200 of food for $85 so therefore with this option, the pricing became a little more digestible.Summary as follows:1. No bread was supplied at all which would have been a good move on their behalf2. Rib Share Platter -Tasty and I rated them3. Arancini Balls entrée - fried and not very tasty4. Calamari - nice dish but too small.  Paying full price ($16 ish without the voucher) is well over the odds5. Steak - a little tough however it was a good piece of meat and it was cooked to perfection (as ordered) but I should have for medium-rare.   The meat may need to be aged a little longer to get the best out of it!5. Lamb - good dish, filling and quite a nice variety.   I enjoy spice so therefore I would say the one thing this was probably missing was a strong flavour (it was subtle which some will like)Overall, worth a go with the voucher.   Without the voucher, I would not attend again as the value would be eroded.  Inside is quite nice but the couches are quite used!!

Great ambience, average food.. Lovely friendly service. Entree and main was delicious except the dessert which needs a lot of improvement. Had a great night...

Purchased Scoopon voucher $150 worth of anything off the food n drinks menu for $59 wow I thought so I purchased 2...<br/>Have tried so many times to redeem and yep.u guessed it<br/>The moment the voucher is mentioned they are miraculously booked out.<br/>And "lost the last booking off the system....<br/>Website is also very out of date although staff apparently" never look at it....<br/>What else can I say...<br/><br/>VERY POOR FORM GUYS<br/>SO I WILL NEVER WALK THROUGH YOUR DOORS...
FOOD TRIP
Walked in and instantly felt an elegant, cozy and relaxed vibe. The main bar is the centrepiece of the restaurant and attracts a lot of the attention from its modern and well stocked set up. The food was good quality and service was attentive. Beer Battered Chips $9served with Aioli. Pretty good chips. Could have been a bit more crunchy. Great aioli sauce. 7.8/10

Went here for a mid week "date night" , good range of entrees and mains not overpriced. Good atmosphere very comfortable lounges ....though a it on the "tired side".
Kimmy_desu
Really nice ambience, we loved the atmosphere. Only ordered mains and drinks. Yes drinks are slightly overpriced but acceptable for the class and Toorak location. Steak was slightly overcooked as my friends only wanted medium rare. Nothing too special about it. Risotto was quite good and I really enjoyed it. Took quite a while for food to come as it was really busy but there aren't that many options on the menu so it should've come a bit sooner?

Just had dinner tonight here,<br/>The thing that stood out most was the pleasant atmosphere and outstanding service!<br/>We had several entrees:<br/>- Lamb ribs (these were amazing, would recommened!)<br/>- Mini wagyu burgers (a bit small, when they say mini they really mean mini)<br/>- Chips - tasted great :)<br/><br/>As well, the eye fillet was a good choice too. Next time I am eager to try the porterhouse as many people ordered it.<br/><br/>Overall 8/10, I would recommend this place :)

Tried to redeem a scoopon voucher just now and the staff was making up poor stories and excuses, well she lied basically! Don't think I'll be going there ever!

A pleasant and lovely surprise<br/><br/>Service was brilliant at the Kate Cebrano pre show dinner<br/><br/>Food was simple but brilliant!<br/><br/>Drinks very expensive would be my only critique. Would have given it a five, otherwise!

Common guys answer your phone!! Rang this venue 15 times (within 5-20 minute intervals) on Wednesday 4th June 2015, did not get a response. No restaurant is that busy to not be able to pick up a ringing phone! Absolutely ridiculous!
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
What happened Marquee? When I first visited years ago, this elegant restaurant served mouthwateringly delicious food. The menu used to be vast and interesting, and their mini wagyu burgers were unbelievably amazing, (one of the best that I have ever had) but not anymore. The quality of food here has definitely gone downhill and the menu is now limited to tapas. The restaurant itself is divided into two sections: a casual front section that is covered by gorgeous cream drapes that resemble a marquee (hence the name), and a stylish back dining section filled with dark leather seating and black timber furnishings. Although the dining area was fancy and relaxing, the atmosphere was unfortunately ruined by the out of place dance music that they had playing all night. Although the service is fast and friendly, I am sad to say that I don’t think I will ever venture here again.

Soft centred Chocolate Pudding with vanilla bean ice cream and orange compote. Again a great combination, the soft centre was rich and that amount of syrupy ooze that makes you want to want to scoop it all up with your spoon and eat it up straight away.

The worst service I have had in Melbourne for years. Went to Marquee for Valentines Day dinner. What a mistake. First the girl could not even get my name right for the booking. I should have known then !! Sat down at the table. waited 10 mins for a bottle of water. Another 10 mins before someone came to take our order. 45 minutes before we got the entree. Another hour before we got the main course. I complained to the so called manager. She didn't have a clue - a bit like my new relationship manager at ANZ. It was like it was my fault they were so disorganized. I asked her how she would compensate us .... She asked me what I wanted, just hopeless. I told her a 2 or the price of 1 deal. She said she had to think about it !! Eventually the bill came with my 2 for 1 deal but she still managed to charge me $9 for a bottle of Schweppes sparking water. Very unpleasant experience. would highly recommend you go elsewhere !!!!

Used to visit this restaurant regularly, returned last week after not being there for about 6 months. Clearly a change of chef - the menu has completed changed, standards seriously dropped! Used to be really delicious tapas beautiful presented, essentially overpriced, poorly cooked pub/cafe food now. And the noise from the nightclub is completely off putting. Definitely will never go back.

Was looking forward to a nice dinner out. Unfortunately this wasn't to be. The place was hidden away and upon entering I felt I entered a bar/nightclub rather than a restaurant. There were sheets for walls which allowed noise from outside to echo in.<br/>We booked via Dimmi's and despite receiving a confirmation, Marquee were surprised to see us upon arrival....fail!<br/>We weren't even offered water to begin with.<br/>The lamb ribs were very fatty, the 3 arancini balls were smaller than the size of eggs for a whopping price of $15. We received 6 tiger prawns served with toasted woolworths bread for a ridiculous price of $18. These were just two of the dismal dishes we had. <br/>They took ages to take our payment. Needless to say we won't be coming back and now enjoying our second dinner at another restaurant down the road.

Went there last Tuesday for an event called "Rescues"<br/>Had a wonderful night, ordered a chicken slider which comes with chips and a pot for $15! What a steal.<br/>Not to mention awesome live music and a cool 2-4-1 cocktail menu.<br/>It seems to be happening every Tuesday, I'll defiantly be coming back!

Delicious!. Marquee has delicious food - especially their desserts. While it is tucked away in a complex, what it lacks in atmosphere it makes up for in service and the food. Highly recommended!

AWESOME place. This is a beautifully lit restaurant with very friendly, classy and helpful staff!<br/><br/>I went here for a romantic dinner with my hubby and the food was <br/><br/>1) Amazing, tasty!<br/>2) Very well presented<br/><br/>The service is great and the staff can hold a conversation with you and don't look stressed, under pressure or like they don't enjoy their job. <br/><br/>A JOY to eat here! I'll definitely be back!

Fabulous Fabulous. I have been about 4-5 times now and the restaurant has produced consistently high quality food. Last night we ordered 7 tastings to share between 3 people which was a great way to taste many different dishes. We had pork belly, mini wagyu burgers (fantastic). The calamari was fresh, with a delicious light coating, The lamb cutlets were amazing - the lamb falls off the bone and the sauce is delicious. The scallops are beautiful. My husband usually orders the duck- main course and absolutely loves it. The chocolate pudding has warm chocolate sauce which oozes from the centre with orange, mint and vanilla ice cream with crunchy toffee. It is a must - have and not overly sweet. The serving size is not too large either- just satisfies the little sweet craving.

Solid performer. Wasn't sure what to expect from Marquee, and have come away content. In a business / shopping mall complex, Marquee is somewhat hidden from the street. The decor is dark toned Paris chic, and the food broadly European.<br/><br/>Four of us shared a range of tasting plates and entrees. The mini wagyu burgers topped with quail eggs and a square of cheese were a cute pair with crusty buns, and luscious tomato relish. The mixed olives were steeped in olive oil, thyme and preserved lemon. I passed on the braised duck livers but other guests polished them off happily. Saffron arancini were fragrant oozing cheese and rice balls cooked perfectly.<br/><br/>For mains we shared a panfried spinach gnocchi, a beetroot carpaccio salad with candied walnuts, a shaved fennel, orange and pomegranate salad, and an Angus beef eye fillet. Steak was cooked exactly as asked, with jus on the side and presented with baby vegetables and garlic mash. Fennel salad was light and fresh, and gnocchi on the heavier side, but still ok. Beetroot carpaccio seemed to be made from tinned vegetables, which took way from an otherwise promising dish - the candied walnuts were wonderfully crunchy and sweet.<br/><br/>Dessert was the soft centered chocolate pudding and the honey creme brûlée, plus a special of passion fruit and pineapple drop scone doughnuts. The tropical flavours worked well and the passion fruit ice cream was great, although the doughnuts were also a bit heavy. Other two desserts were textbook good examples of classic sweet treats.<br/><br/>A few service slips from the young and mostly international staff - the bottle of wine ordered and one of the mains each went missing in action, but arrived fairly quickly once they were asked after. Coffee / ice machine is really noisy at the nearby bar which can be jarring. Otherwise, service was acceptable. On the plus side, the lady taking the reservation asked for any dietary requirements, and also mentioned that Entertainment cards were accepted, both good to have considered in advance. Bill came to $240 ($180 with discount) before tip. Pretty good place if a bit hard to find. Main drawback was the smell of bleach / cleaning products in the centre when we arrived - not the most romantic for the couples in the room, and just unpleasant generally.<br/><br/>AFL grand final night means less crowds away from the city, which is a bonus at Marquee, located in the same complex as Trak nightclub / live music venue. For future visits l'd probably choose midweek to avoid the noise and crush that otherwise usually fills the entrance to both venues if l came for dinner, or join in at the bar if just to visit for drinks, hopefully without cleaning products smell.

Food there were amazing! We pity much pay half price with the vouncher! We love the tapas and the desert... Elto mess with strawberry is a must try if you love sweet!

No personality - great food. Food was fantastic, except there was a piece of plastic in my entree- I received no acknowledgement from anyone, not even an apology! The staff were nice enough, though lacked personality, they didn't talk just nodded their heads. My husband made a joke to ease the mood, and got nothing. There was no people ambience!!<br/>Even with the food tasting sooo good, I would not recommend the place or come back.

My husband and I had dinner last night and absolutely loved it. Admittedly if you didn't know the restaurant was next to the Trak bar you may be a bit put out but we did and that's why we went there...and we were glad. It's actually quite fun watching people at the bar. We shared 4-5 tapas dishes and each one was wonderful...seasoned well and executed perfectly. We finished with the Eton Mess...loved it too. The staff were great and really attentive. We will definitely be back, even if we are not heading next door to see a band. We are both in hospitality and were so happy that a night off and away from the kids worked so well. Thanks!

...what do you want??. Do you like a fancy night out, there is better out there.<br/><br/>Do you want food that blows your mind, there is better out there.<br/><br/>If I would live next door wouldn't know about the nightclub located in the SAME venue and had too much money to spend, I'd probably go there more often. <br/><br/>We went in on a Saturday night a few weeks back and were neither blown away nor impressed.<br/><br/>Living in a different suburb, our neighborhood houses quite some options, for the same price, with better service, better food and nicer atmosphere. (...by nicer atmosphere I mean, no nightclub staff constantly running pass our table, enjoying themselves at the bar and smelling like cigarettes). We should've asked for a table away from the bar, but...some things should be understood.<br/><br/>The menu itself looks a little bit like the playground of a child. No red line. Everything but nothing and way, way, way too long. I must ask myself, how such a small kitchen (at least that was my impression from what I've seen)<br/>,is able cater such a large menu and keep quality and integrity of the produce alive. Well, answer is, they can't. Vegetables served with our mains were overcooked, the spinach was draining in some sort of water/garlic/butter stuff. Meat was OK. Tapas overpriced and under-impressive, some tasty though.<br/><br/>Dessert was skipped for a nice fortified...well, we talked about their beverage options earlier. <br/><br/>...no, thank you.

It's no longer my favourite. Went there in june two nights in a row. Received very bad service. I expect the service to be really great for the price I'm paying for. Service was really good on our very first visit which was last year. That's why the two nights in a row in June this year. I would think twice to dine at this restaurant given that I receive better service and great food at another restaurant. Mains were ok, nothing special. Their dessert apple tatin and eaton mass were to die for. tasting plates were really gOod. I wouldn't go back anytime soon, but definitely will. They need to improve their service skills and be more attentive to the customers. There was this waitress keep talking to my partner like I didnt exist or something. She didn't say anything to me but my partner. Seriously? Anyway all in all, even though food is up to standard, and to die for, it's the service and the staffs which is pushing me away.

Love it! been here twice- superb service the friendliest bunch, beautiful ambiance, food- honey glazed duck, seared venison really nice<br/>free parking around back

The prawn... exceptional. crumbed and tasted like it was deep fried. everything else ... yeah, ok. Steak came medium rather than medium rare.

Nom nom!. Impecable service, beautifully decorated!<br/><br/>Saffron arancini and Braised ox tail soup were ordered for entre. Arancini balls were lush and soup was tasty but sadly lots of fatty bits of meat.<br/><br/>Main was the Veal and the Barramundi. Veal was good, but lacking something? Barramundi was delicious.<br/><br/>For us the best part of the night was dessert which was the Eton mess and Honey creme brulee which were to die for!! Will come back just for the desserts.<br/><br/>The place looks very swish but dress code isn't as formal which is good otherwise it would feel a bit stuffy.

Awesome tasting platters!. We bought a voucher and were absolutely satisfied with our dining experience at Marquee, particularly since it was an anniversary date too. <br/><br/>Our waitresses were extremely friendly, polite and attentive. As many of the reviewers had suggested, the tasting platter is a lot more worthwhile (tastier) than the mains itself. We loved the wagyu mini burgers - they were so succulent, juicy and full of flavour. The lamb racks were phenomenal, an absolute stand out. The honey sauce did not overwhelm the lamb, and we could have literally another serving or two. And to polish off such outstanding food, the Eton mess was very light and refreshing which left us in high spirits .. and wanting more. <br/><br/>However, the mains were decent - we ordered the steak and the honey glazed duck. It wasn't something we'll go back for. The baked pastry scallops were also average, but very juicy. The one thing we didn't like was the apple tartin. It was overwhelmingly sweet and was really hard to keep down. <br/><br/>All in all, we'll definitely be back for the tasting platters and the Eton mess!

A Hidden Gem. Marquee has been a favourite restaurant of mine to visit ever since I discovered it through a group buying site. On our last visit, the food was amazing as always, and the service was excellent. Our waitress, Iris, was friendly, cheerful, and most importantly, helpful. We made a booking to celebrate my grandma's birthday and were left a lasting impression. <br/><br/>If you ever visit, I definitely recommend the Lamb Rack (Tastings), Duck (Main), Baby Snapper (Main), Chocolate Pudding (Dessert) and Apple Tatin (Dessert).

Ms. jan berger. I bought a groupon voucher with this restaurant.<br/>i rang and left 3 messages over 2 days....with no reply.<br/>i then booked online...also with no reply.<br/>obviously they dont need any more biz!<br/>why bother using groupon to promote?<br/><br/>i have reported this to groupon and am waiting on a reply....hopefully before the voucher expires!<br/>unlike my purchased doona voucher which could never ever be activated ,hence no delivery and despite complaining regularly to groupon.. i was advised one minute, delivery could be late...and with 6 hours, delivery for voucher period has expired through no fault of mine...n will only receive an insult refund of aud 50.00 iso aud 119.00!<br/><br/>beware of using these groupon vouchers!
Nick
Probably the worst service we have received for the staff:patron ratio - it kind of felt like sitting in the first-school-play version of a restaurant, and not in a cute nice way. The food was okay I guess, but REALLY - $14 for two miniature hamburgers?? If u want good food at a cheaper price, seriously, just go to movida. They then proceeded to overcharge us $8 for a bottle of wine, then when we queried this and even offered to split the difference (as it was meant to be a romantic meal and we were feeling nice), the awful manager woman was snootily mean. Not a nice end (or beginning or middle really) to a meal. Plus it was cold and in the middle of a shopping centre. EAT ELSEWHERE!!

Great dining experience. Fabulous food, service and ambience. A real little gem. The eye fillet was magic. Only question is, why the tacky white paper over the white table cloth?

Tasting plates are fantastic.. Like the previous reviews, the tasting plates are probably the highlight of this place. I orginally ate here with a voucher and was quite disappointed with the mains. As I had bought two vouchers I decided to go for the tasting plates instead on my second visit. <br/><br/>To my surprise, I really enjoyed the tasting plates. What's also quite good is that there is a diverse range of them. The desserts were also quite nice as well. When dining here I would highly recommend the tasting plates over the mains. The service is also very good.

Beautiful ambience and great food. I decided to order 3 tasting plates instead of a main, due to other comments from previous reviews. The Scallops were a standout, Lamb ribs was very good and the wagu beef burgers were very classy but small portioned. My girlfriend who is a vegetarian, ordered the spinach gnocchi and mushroom risotto and loved both. Our side of mash was the best mash we have tasted in a long time (and we order mash wherever we go)! Service was attentive. <br/>Will definitely return.

Fancy & friendly.... Professional staff, from initial welcome to seating. My husband & myself shared the oven Buffalo mozzarella & pan seared duck liver as an entrée. Both dishes were divine. As a main, we had the honey glazed duck breast. A little bit tough, but overall was well cooked. To finish off, honey creme brulee. All in all, very enjoyable dinner, very pleasant and friendly waiter/waitress. A fancy restaurant hidden in the heart of Toorak.

10/10. Just got back from Marquee restaurant, nothing bad to say every dish was a stand out, the wagyu beef burgers were amazing the desserts were even better def. a hidden gem !!

Tasting menu is awesome!. Marque is a rare gem in the South Yarra area. Hidden inside an arcade..stands a Marquee that house this restaurant. Make sure you try the tasting plates. My favourite has got to be the Petit Wagyu burgers! Yum...

Very fancy but very friendly. The moment we walked in we were treated really nicely.<br/>we are a bit of a foodie so we eat out a lot. i had the handmade crab ravioli for entree and barramundi for mains and the delectable chocolate pudding. soooo.yummm<br/>the voucher was for $120.00 worth of food for like $59.oo, great value. My husband and I had three course meal, with bear and wine and the total was $140.00, so i only paid $20..00 more.. will definitely go back again.

We went with a deals voucher. The food was fantastic but the service was terrible. We walked in about 10 minutes late and they said our table wasn't ready even though there were 2 tables free then they took forever to bring our menu out. Then when we asked for the bill a few times they ignored us. As nice as the food was I probably wouldn't go back there again.

Excellent "small dish" feist!. We had a lovely dinner at Marquee on Tuesday night. We had decided to go "light" with our meal as we had dined out quite a lot recently This turned out to be an excellent idea as we treated ourselves to six outstanding little dishes from an inspired list of choices Marquee calls "tastings". Each one of them was very different from the others providing a continuous stream of taste sensations. The presentation of each was aesthetic and pleasing. The Cape Mentelle sauvignon blanc semillon complemented the food perfectly. The warm and friendly service was most appreciated. We will be talking about this experience for some time to come as it stands juxtaposed against a very poor meal we had at a highly rated "upmarket" restaurant during the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival just four days before (see my review of PM24).

Fantastic food at very reasonable prices and didn't get treated like poor cousins due to presenting vouchers. Wonderful staff and service, especially the French waitress. Will return.

Better than expected. We had dinner at this restaurant recently for the first time, and we used a Groupon voucher. Everything from the booking, the food and service was fantastic and we weren't treated any differently from a full paying customer. <br/><br/>The starters (or tastings) were reallllyyyy good, we had the petit wagyu burgers and the oven roasted lamb ribs (which was highly recommended from other urbanspoon users). The lamb in particular was so tender and tasty. Both are highly recommended. <br/><br/>The mains were just as impressive, we had the baby snapper and the black angus eye fillet. The steak was tender and juicy and the fish was perfectly done with a nice prawn bisque. <br/><br/>Unfortunately, we were too full and only had enough room to try one dessert to share between us since we couldn't resist getting a side serve of fries with out meals. Nevertheless, the Apple tatin was also impressive although it would've been nice to be able to sample another dessert if we weren't so full. <br/><br/>The service was also good from the moment we booked until the end of the dinner. Will definitely be back to try the other menu items although its hard to depart from what we had. The pricing was reasonable too even if dining without a voucher. Highly recommended and wil be back.
Rebecca Lim
Fantastic entrees, underwhelming mains. The entrees -mini wagyu burgers and lamb ribs were fantabulous. At 14 and 15 bucks respectively, I think I'll return just for these dishes. UNfortunately the mains were underwhelming -the confit duck was overcooked, while the seared venison was tough and topped with a flat, one-dimensional sauce.
Ron Matthews
Sumptuous!!. We both dined at Marquee on a weeknight, which by their admission is probably quieter than on Fridays and Saturdays, as there is a nightclub below and the restaurant can get packed later in the night.<br/><br/>But don't let that take anything away from it - it is a lovely place to dine and the food is sensational. This starter plates are well worth having and represent extremely good value. One of these plates that will stick in my mind for a long time was the freshly shucked oysters served with a lime granita. It sounds a weird combination but in fact it is delicious in the extreme. <br/><br/>Also, the calamari was fresh, flavoursome and delightful.<br/><br/>The main courses were very good, and my wife's salmon was great. From my own point of view, I would have liked to see a little more variety in the main courses section, but that is not to say they are inadequate.<br/><br/>Their deserts are something else entirely. They are beautiful. I had an Eaton Mess, the likes of which I have never had before and was an absolute delight. Carole's desert was equally amazing and very enjoyable.<br/><br/>The chef is very competent in what he does and he does do it very well indeed.<br/><br/>Service was impeccable our waiter - Dan - looked after our needs very well indeed. Mine host - Sven - did everything and more they could be reasonably expected from him. He was a delight to speak with and discuss the meal as we progressed - no doubts, he knows his stuff.<br/><br/>Altogether, a very memorable night and one that neither of us will forget in a hurry. A visit is highly recommended especially for those who would like to kick on at a nightclub afterwards, given there is one downstairs. There is little doubt we will return soon - I, for one, want more of those oysters!<br/><br/>Do try it, you will not be disappointed!

Great Food and atmosphere. Lovely venue, almost felt like we were eating on a terrace with the silk tent canopy. My partner and I couldn't get past the tastings menu! We shared 7 different tastings between us for dinner, and definitely had our fill. Highest recommendations go to the ribs, wagu burgers, scallops with a fantastic crispy puff pasty and the calamari. The stuffed eggplant was a let down, great flavours but the serving was much too small. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgable. Thanks for a nice night.

Went on a groupon voucher deal. As written by most viewers, food is very nice. Lamb ribs, scollops, mini burgers were excellent! Had the rib eye steak, very nice and tender. Chocolate pudding, apple tart and their special of the day (passion fruit sorbet) were yummy.

TWO TIMES BACK!. I came here the first time to celebrate my friends birthday and I ordered the quail, duck, lamb ribs, salmon and calamari. Everything was really good especially the lamb ribs! The sauce is GOOD. THe salmon was so-so. Came again the second time and ordered the mini wagyu burger, lamb ribs, steak and the once again. This time however, I wasnt satisfied with the steak. Ordered a medium well and gave me a medium rare. They took back and reheat using the microwave causing the meat to become hard. Would not recommend the steak! HOwever, the mini burgers and the lamb ribs is a MUST TRY!
Shanen
I highly recommend the mini Wagyu beef burgers here! I went back 2 times just for that dish! Lamb ribs are also nice. Risotto is pretty nice. The Entres are especially good, whereas the mains are nothing special. Of the three times I have been, the service has been excellent on all every occasion. Overall, highly recommended restaurant for a nice night out for 2 or small group.

Great food and service!. Went with a voucher but was treated very well. Fantastic service from everyone, great, classy atmosphere and great food. Mini burgers were tasty, eye fillet was well cooked, and the chocolate pudding was amazing! Recommend this place highly for a great meal, especially for a date.

Worth a visit!. Visited Marquee tonight using a scoopon. The food was lovely (had the wagyu carpaccio for entree and petit wagyu burger tasting which was to die for). For mains we had honey glazed duck and seared venison which were both tasty and reasonably portioned.<br/>Service and ambience was excellent, staff were attentive and unpretentious. The only downside being the loud bass music coming from the nearby club. <br/>Will definitely be back to visit.

Marquee Restaurant Toorak. We purchased vouchers on line to dine at Marquee. It's tucked away in a Toorak arcade above Tok H. Once you enter the restaurant you discover a marquee features in the front dining area. The entire restaurant is cleverly decorated and has a lovely Parisian feel to it. We were lead to our table surrounded with tub leather chairs in the 'back' of the restaurant (that is - not under the marquee). The chairs made you sit a little low for the table, but otherwise were comfortable and didn't hinder our ability to consume our meals. Food was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. Serving sizes were not too small nor too large. There was a decent break between courses also. My ONLY complaint is the quality of service. We had a variety of staff wait on us who were all very pleasant however lacked the finesse one would expect from an establishment of this calibre. We ordered another bottle of wine, which simply never arrived. Dessert wines are not sold by the glass either which is shame. When we asked for the bill, we received someone else's. Would I go back? Well yes; because I enjoyed the ambience and the food and hope the owner is reading reviews and will make changes to the wait staff!

Excellent staff, food was fine. Used voucher was good value. We had an incident with one of the side dishes and chef and staff very apologetic so we will return

Tasting menu is good. Went there on a voucher, we ordered lamb ribs, mini wagyu burger as entrees which were pretty good. but the steak was the worst steak we had in a while, it was not tender at all.. hard to cut hard to chew... however it was cooked exactly to what I wanted... <br/>I have got one more voucher, I guess I would try some other dishes on the tasting menu next time.

Oh what a shame. Great food, only to be spoiled by what can only be described, as very amateurish service. To arrive and not have the table ready and be asked to go to the bar, barely ordered a drink and then asked to come to the table. We ordered two glasses of white wine, we received one glass and a bottle, which was sent back. We said we wanted to glasses of wine and we would order a bottle of red, to be responded by " ok so we are now all on the same page", sorry mate you were the only one not on the page.<br/>We ordered tasting plates which were fabulous, however every item we ordered was responded with" fantastic" by the waiter, when he took the wine order it was "cool", until he couldn't remember what we ordered and had to come back and check.<br/>After the tasting plates were finished, we didn't really appreciate having all the cutlery collected in one hand and all the plates stacked in front of us and then the cutlery placed on top of the plates at the table.<br/>Again the mains were excellent, but unfortunately interspersed by thumping, doof doof music from the night club nearby.<br/>Great food but very poor service, really wouldn't bother going back too many other quality places around

Just go. Think the best way to sum up what I thought of Marquee is when we got the bill. Inside the folder was a leaflet for new years, we booked straight away! <br/><br/>Went on a scoupon and would not have been impressed if we paid full price.<br/><br/>Seems every time we get a "deal" my partner orders duck breast , the best duck yet (better then most duck specialists, partner is from Beijing) .<br/><br/>Tasting Platters, tried the mini burgers, Yum, Squid: Super Yum. My steak fantastic best I had in a long while.<br/><br/>Service good to the point of if it was any more attentive it be annoying!<br/><br/>Best thing found another deal site today (day after) giving much the same deal . Brought 3!

Excellent service. I went here last night with a friend and we used a cudo voucher ($49 for $100 worth of food and drink). There seemed to be quite a few people using vouchers but one staff member, Daniel was exceptional. The customer service we received from him was excellent, he was friendly and attentive. The food was quite nice, the grilled king prawns tasting plate was average but the calamari and mini wagyu burgers were delicious! I would definitely recommend them. I had the Carpaccio as a main, and it was quite nice. For dessert I had a chocolate pudding (Delicious but very rich) and my friend had the special which was honey creme brulee, it was absolutely divine.<br/><br/>Good service and good food, 4/5.

Food as great as the service... which were both great.. Found about this restaurant through an online voucher site and decided to visit one evening.<br/><br/>Although located inside a shopping centre one quickly forgets this fact after entering the actual marquee entrance and seeing the comfortable and romantic interior.<br/><br/>Our ordered consisted of the petit wagyu burgers as an entree with the duck confit and aged rib eye as mains. The mini wagyu burgers were an adorable sight as well as absolutely delectable , who knew such tiny morsels of food could contain so much flavour. My rib eye was cooked exactly as requested, the meat was succulent, flavoursome and seasoned wonderfully; the red wine sauce complimented the steak perfectly. My partner told me her duck was satisfactory but not great. Overall a wonderful meal.<br/><br/>It's refreshing to see a restaurant embrace the online voucher craze with such a great attitude, using it as a platform to get their name out there and let the populace experience the great food and service Marquee has to offer. It is a far cry from so many of the deals that I see all too often that try so hard to get customers through the door, but give so little reason for them to come back.<br/><br/>Kudos to you, Marquee.

Amazing food!. Amazing food, loved it there, begging my boyfriend to take me back. Recommend the ribs or the flash fried calamari. Shame the branding has been cheapened by the use of Cudo, I enjoyed being a regular here when it was quiet.

Deliciously Hidden. The little place was hidden inside a building, The slightly darkened room filled with chatter was a good blend of intimacy and vibrancy. Despite the rushed welcome and quick push towards the waiting lounge, the night turned out well. <br/><br/>After quite a while (30 min) we were apologized sincerely to by a lovely waitress who explained they didn't expect such a rush. Everyone seemed to want to stay so they couldn't clear a table for our 8.30 booking. <br/><br/>After finally being seated we ordered:<br/>> Lamb ribs: for an entree at such a 'fancy' restaurant i didn't expect such a large serving - there were 6 pieces which were tender, perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. <br/>> Atlantic salmon - this was not a disappointment with the crispy but not oily skin The fish was cooked just right and served on a celery sauce. Surprisingly the 'zing' of the celery complemented the salmon.<br/>> Duck - served on slightly creamy mash and topped with orange it was a heavy but pleasant dish. The serving was large but some of the duck pieces were amazingly tender, others were a touch dry (might be because it was different parts of duck). <br/><br/>The ingredients were fresh, the presentation was fantastic and the flavors were a treat. I'm keen to go back and try out some of their other dishes, however the flavors were a little intense for my liking. With places like this i tend to go with someone i can share mains with (to break up the flavor). <br/><br/>Once the place calmed down the waitress offered us complementary coffees (to make up for the wait) and made sure that we had everything we need. I accepted a hot chocolate which had a unique flavor (in a good way), it was creamy and had a marshmallow kind of sweet. <br/><br/>Highlights: the lamb, wonderful waitress with personality, and a great environment to have a long chat.

Great food, shame about the unsightly club goers. We ate here on a Saturday night thanks to a Scoopon voucher.. the ambiance when we arrived was great, the wait staff terrific and then the food... fantastic. we started with the oysters and pork belly which were superb! for mains my partner had the honey glazed duck which he said was great and I had the chef's signature dish the venison... this to was great. only the braised faggot was much to big and made me feel like all i was eating was meat meat meat. if this was just smaller it would have been 10/10! for dessert we shared the apple tartin which was wonderful and a great way to cap of the meal.. the only bad thing about the whole night was that the restaurant which is located in the Track centre was right next door to trak night club so once 8pm hit loud, roudy and scantily dressed 18 year olds began lining up and the sound quickly travelled into the restaurant.<br/>would love to go again, although without the scoopon voucher it will be less then often due to prices (well worth for the meal however) and maybe the restaurant can think new doors so they can be shut when the night club line up begins!

Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. The food was Awesome! Good service! The portion looks small but after completing our meal, it was just the right portion. Good ambiance as well. Would definitely come back again! Had The pork belly, pigeon meat, lamb ribs, and duck meats everything was really good! Thumbs up!

Just went there last night and it was amazing!!! Had the lamb ribs and wage burgers for entree and they were both delicious! The ribs was very tender and literally falling off the bone! Wagyu burgers was very nice and I like how the juice quail yolk just runs down on the sides when you press the top side of the bread. It was amazing. I had the Honey glazed duck breast with chive mash and it was amazing. Loved the sauce and the duck was very well cooked. My boyfriend had the salmon with ratatouille. Salmon was pan fried with nice salty crispy skin on top and it was just to die for! For desert I had the chocolate pudding and he has the "special" which was the strawberry sundae with strawberry coulees and meringue. Pudding was amazing and the chocolate just oozes out when you cut into it, strawberry sundae was also refreshing and the ice cream was perfect, not too sweet! To top it off we had a nice hot chocolate, perfect for a rainy night! :) service was amazing! British guy was our waiter for the night and he was professional, friendly and very helpful. We had a scoopon deal for this, but will definitely come back again! Price wise it was pricey mains ranged from $32-$43 but for a special Occasion I would recommend this place :)

Best food in Toorak!!!!. Not sure about "John Smith"'s review below? With the name John Smith and such poor English, one must be suspect of whether he was actually a customer?<br/><br/>Anyway we ate here ast the weekend thanks to Scoopon and everyhing was great. We shared some oysters and pate to begin - love the shot glass with champagne granita that comes with the oysters! My partner then thoroughally enjoyed the venison dish and I loved my baby snapper, pretty decent serves but we managed to squeeze in an Eton Mess for dessert, was great.<br/>Staff attentive and friendly, great value with Scoopon and we will be back again!

Terrible Location, cold food and very overpriced. I dined at Marquee restaurant for a special occasion last weekend and it was awful. First of all it is located within a rundown shopping centre - not what you expect from a 'fancy restaurant'. We were practically sitting on top of two other couples despite there being plenty of other good tables available. We asked to be moved and we were seated in front of the stairs (to the shopping centre) where there was a cold draft and noisy teenagers in the centre (hardly a very romantic atmosphere). There were alot of better tables that did not fill throughout our meal. Expensive cocktail was very unimpressive. We ordered a couple of the tasting and two mains and they were all pretty cold. For a $43 steak - you expect it to be perfect but it was undercooked and cold. Venison was ok but again cold and very small portions. <br/>Thank god we had a Scoopon voucher and we did not have to pay the full price of the meal - I would never have paid that much for what we got.<br/><br/>Overall, very disappointed in what I had hoped would have been a good meal. The only positive for this place was that the staff were friendly and helpful. Ambiance was one of the worst I have had and food was below average. Sorry folks but save your money for somewhere worthwhile!

The Worst Restaurant, Ripp Off, very bad quality. I ate in this restaurant, food quality was absulutely low, exteremly over prices, imgine paying $43 for a dry, hard stake with no vegetables or any thing.... I am not impressed and would not go again,, we ordered a few dishes to share, all the dishes was expensive and between $32 to $43, very small and worst thing was low quality and no good taste..... <br/>all the Entrees was expensive around$15 - $18 or more which was the smallest Entree that i had ever seen... <br/>over all my score would be around 1 or 2 max out of 10, <br/>highly not recommended, its waste of Money and bad experience.... but at the end of the day, its my opinion, and up to everyone else wanting to take the risk and try this unimpressive food or not....

First class dining experience. Everything from the entrées, mains, and deserts were fantastic and delicious. Rib eye steak and eye filet were some of the best we've had in Melbourne. Very friendly staff and excellent service. Great dining ambiance. Definitely will be returning soon!

I ate at Marquee last Tuesday night and loved it! The staff were welcoming, friendly & attentive to start but then the food was amazing. I had the baby beetroots and wagyu burgers as starters and the duck as my main. All dishes were perfectly sized, presented and delicious. It's my birthday next week and I'm going back. can't believe this place isn't packed every night, people need to get in fast before it is!

Ate at this restaurant last night - had this amazing venison dish!! Best meal I have had in months! Also had some delicious lamb ribs and chocolate pudding. The sort of restaurant that toorak has needed for ages - a cut above all the other local places. Definitely recomended!

Fabulous. The most under rated restaurant in Toorak. This place is new and yet to be discovered by many. Three of us had a tapas style dinner which was great - the lamb ribs are amazing and a must have. Good service, well priced, comfortable chairs and great people watching heading into Trak.

Thumbs Up. I had dinner last week at Marquee with a group of friends having heard positive things about the restaurant. My overall impression is that I will definitely be going back and I can unashamedly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was magnificent - we shared a selection of the tapas amongst our group and then I had the pork belly for the main and my wife had the duck. We had the pleasure of speaking with the head chef Ben who came out to check that we were happy with the meal. He was able to recant to us a few stories about the inner workings of the kitchens in London where he learnt his craft. The quality of the service from our waiter was second to none. The only impediment I can see holding this restaurant back is the location as it is not street front and you need to enter the glass sliding doors of the Trak shopping centre where it is located. This means it is probably missing out on alot of the passing traffic but in my opinion once the word gets out this place will be hard to get a booking at.

Can't believe this place is not full house every night! What a great meal! Service was pretty decent too - nice wine and friendly waiters. But the food was the winner,we tried the wagyu burgers and prawns first - delicious! Then my husband had the pork belly, and I had the duck. Both were great - couldn't find any negatives. And pretty decent prices for the quality you get. Perfect restaurant for the area - just what Toorak has needed!

I've recently dined at the Marquee Restaurant in Toorak. The first thing I noticed when walked into the restaurant was the prompt service provided by the Maitre'd who greeted me on my arrival. I ordered from the Tapas menu the lamb ribs. These were **FANTASTIC**. They just melted in mouth. I also noticed the extensive wine list which I ordered Fifth Leg which was recommended by the Maitre'd whom had a broad knowledge of not only the wines on the list but other wines which were also displayed along the custom built wine racks inside the restaurant. Afterh sharing the bottle of wine I ordered a Prawn dish for my main and was pleasantly surprised with the taste and the speed at which the meal came to me. Overall my experience at this restaurant was exceptional I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoys a Eurpean with a touch of French dining and also enjoys wines.

AMAZING FOOD!. Ate at this new restaurant last weekend. New place so not really busy yet, but the food was fantastic! There is a tapas menu and also a full menu - we tried the tapas menu. We shared sticky lamb ribs (totally melt in your mouth!), mini Wagyu beef burgers complete with friend quails egg, duck liver pate with spices and mini pickles and baby roasted beetroots topped with white anchovies. Gotta say that everything that cam out looked fantastic and tasted as good as it looked! Nice looking restaurant with cosy atmosphere and pretty decent wine list to match. We will definitely be back to try the full menu!

The restaurant epitomises the fine dining scene. Subtle music playing in the background with only hints of ‘gentle’ conversation between diners. That is, until the doof doof music comes on at around 9.30pm from the night club underneath the venue.

The whole venture seems confused to me, because while the food is good, it is unrelated to the environment (Parisian), the local area (fashionable Toorak) and the head chef's background.

Marquee Restaurant offers a nice selection of dishes, with plentiful that are tasty and satisfying. Would actually make me want to go there full price now that I’ve tasted their food. If you go to Marquee Restaurant, the duck is a must. I fine the prices to be on average slightly pricey, but I think that’s just the norm with these kind of restaurants. Marquee would now be on my list of places to dine on special occasions so I’m definitely glad to have dined here.<br/><br/>

There is a sense of swooping opulence offered by the overhead tent structure with white drapes thrown against black iron details. The soft candlelight in the corner spaces are also endlessly warming,
