Review Ichi Japanese Restaurant - Toowoomba

Negatives: Not the most enthusiastic front counter person, however she could have been having a bad day as she treated all customers (in person and on the phone) in the same fashion. The meals are most likely made when ordered as there's a significant delay after ordering (only two other tables occupied and two takeaway orders in our time visiting - all received meals before us). Plates are quite dirty with caked on dirt (see photo) and serving size is arguable in relation to price point. Positives: Easily locatable shopfront from the carpark, right next to the bubble tea shop. Dishes seem to be made fresh on order.

Freshest Japanese dishes in town. Some of my favourites are Agedashi Tofu, chicken katsu ramen, vegetable and tofu ramen, deluxe rolls are also very filling. Pretty much any of the items on the menu is good. The winning dish from here is THE Sashimi Don. I've eaten this dish since the restaurant first open, and regularly for years after. It hits the spot EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. The quality of the seafood, the quantity, the rice seasoning, everything about this is done so well. Sashimi is generally fresh most places you go, but it is very hard to find one that is actually filling, without having to spend an arm and leg. The owners are very accomodating, always looks after you. To compare this with thousands of Sashimi don served up in the big Brisbane city, I still haven't found one that ticks all the boxes like here.

Had dinner here tonight. Wonderful food! Perfectly crunchy pork katsu bento box. 100% recommend the takoyaki. The soft shell crab was not oily at all. Prices are very reasonable and will be going back

Worst ramen I've ever had. The broth was pretty bad and the staff not Japanese background. I ordered the chicken karage, tofu with sauce and veggie ramen

My family and I love Ichi. The quality of the food is incredible. Amazing hand rolls and authentic wasabi. Cannot fault this place. Good gluten free options also. Highly recommend.

The best ramen I've even placed in my mouth. The miso.... So flavourful. The Udon noodles... So soft, slipping straight into where I want it. Portion size is very commendable as well. Im not from Toowoomba, but I frequently drive 2 hours just to experience it all again. Top tier food, it makes me cry while in eating it.

Waited one and a half hours for our food. We were not advised of a waiting time, nor were we compensated or even apologised to for such a ridiculous wait. When the food finally arrived it was drowned in FAR too much pepper.

Tried it for the first time today for lunch. I would boldly declare that it is the best Japanese food in Toowoomba. Lesser trips to Brisbane for decent Japanese food now! We ordered the chicken karaage bento set which was very delicious and the pork katsu ramen with pork broth. I thought it would have been better if the katsu was served separately on a plate as it went soggy in the broth. Otherwise, it was excellent and I would be returning for sure!

Just finished scoffing my first takeaway Karaage chicken. I am totally impressed! Tasty, came with salad, tempura prawn, rice and even a soup for an entrée! In terms of the flavours and the generous size of the meal, probably some of the best value in all of Toowoomba. I will be back! Huge menu to work through...

Had the pleasure of dinning with penny and friends at this little gem of a restaurant. Really is number one.

Wow!!!!!! Just completely inhaled my takeaway order. I ordered Cha-shu Ramen with pork bone broth and my fiancé got the chicken karaage rice set. I cannot praise the Ramen broth enough!!!! I am so glad Ichi is serving Ramen! It's my favourite Japanese meal and I am completely satisfied. I am quite the Ramen fan and this Ramen is actually better than my favourite Ramen place in Brisbane! It tastes exactly like the ones I've had in Japan. Exactly what I needed on a chilly rainy evening!! Thank you Ichi! We'll definitely be back!!!!

Very pleasant meals & good value for money for 1st time being there. We'll definitely be back :) Once another waiter/waitress/Chef is hired, the service is going to be far better so as to reduce waiting time. One thing that would be nice is to have cutlery (chopsticks, spoon & serviette) & small serving plate already present on the table.

Awful food. Watery curry with rubbery chicken and even though they double checked the order, they gave us seafood gyoza when my wife's allergic and made her sick. Not going again

Beautifully cooked food, no 'western' Japanese, just good authentic food. The tastes remind me of my favourite izakaya and noodle stand in Japan. YUM!!! Clean and neatly presented. Service is good and prices are very reasonable. Well worth it and will be going back again soon!

Authentic, tasty and well priced Japanese dishes. Small restaurant which was although busy when we had our meal we were served in good time.

Great, inexpensive meals, everything is fresh and cooked well. The service is improving even on a week to week basis. A great choice for a casual dinner.

Sat down at table 8 as instructed, grabbed our own menu as we weren't given one. Waited 15 minutes later no one been to the table. Another couple arrive and sit at table 7. 5 minutes later he approaches them and takes their order. Think to myself he will come to us after that. Takes his ordering book back to the front desk and toddles off back into the kitchen. I left and had the best meal ever with amazing customer service at the spotted cow on ruthven st. Do yourself a favour mate and hire some front of house staff that know what they are doing because you have no idea.

Terrible service. We were there for 15mins before our lunch order was taken, then sat there for an extra 1hr 40mins until the waiter who originally took our order came over and asked if we had ordered! Instead of reordering we decided to leave. Such a shame, was really looking forward to this new restaurant in town.
