Review Blackman's Brewery - Torquay

Natalija Petrova
Loved the whole experience. The veggie pizza was on point: delicious and big enough for two. Drinks were good. Husband enjoyed both beers he ordered. The wine, not so much, thus only 4 stars. Don't mess with my wine 😂!

Fantastic spot. Food and bevs were on point!!! Definitely will be coming back, perfect place for friends and family. Outside they also have a beer garden which is also dog friendly!!! staff are also very helpful with recommendations for beers!

Came here for an absolutely magical lunch. Ordered the patatas bravas pizza, mushroom and pancetta pizza, homemade garlic bread and dip, crispy fried chicken, chips and mac and cheese croquettes. Mayne, they were all so good. Gah dayum the chips were sent from the man above, perfectly curated for optimal consumption. Beers here were also fantastic.
Scott Puddy
Awesome food, the smaller “snacks” make an great meal - chicken, broccoli and meatballs was heaps for 2ppl. And of course a great beer range with lots of seasonal rotating taps.
Peerapol Taechanurug
Great food, grilled broccoli was exceptional. The staff were nice and attentive. Beer was ok

Had a really enjoyable lunch here today after a swim at Anglesea beach. Nice set up, with outfront, inside and beer garden seating options. Good variety on the menu with the wood oven pizzas as the main show. We decided on the southern style chicken, salt and pepper calamari, onion rings and the slow cooked lamb pizza. Everything was very good and the kids pizza was wood oven and more like a main serving. Being a brewery it had the beer choices you'd expect, I had 2 pints of the lager which was fresh and a top line lager. Would come back for sure.

Fantastic experience. The beer, food and service was exceptional. Thank you Polly esp for looking after us, she's a vibe 🙌 🙃

Ramen restaurant in Torquay. Very pricy and it taste ok. Opposite of a caravan park, plenty of street parking always busy.

Just love the luxury of having the lastest release poured for you inside a brewery in a prime location bell st torquay food to match-to die for. Get the v.line to marshall and catch the local 50 or 51. Drops you in bell st

Amazing food, best kids fish and chips we have ever had, light batter, not oily and actual fresh fish!!! Highly recommend if anyone is passing through, we will deffinetly make the 2 hour trip back. Staff were excellent and great atmosphere!! Well done Blackman's

We spent the weekend in Torquay and decided to do the brewery tour, small but informative. We spent all three evenings in the bar, fantastic beer and food was equally fantastic, plenty of it and we thought great value for money. The young ladies serving had great knowledge of the beer being served and we couldn't fault them. Coming from the an old brewery town in the UK we really enjoyed our weekend drinking Blackmans ales and will be back for sure and will be a place we will be bringing our UK visitors too.

Great burgers. Especially for vegetarians and vegans. It’s very rare that I can go to a hamburger restaurant and have a couple of choices and not just a processed veggie burger. As for their hot chips, absolutely yummy. They were crisp and crunchy on the outside but lovely and soft on the inside. Their ruby grapefruit cocktail was pretty good also. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Blackmans Brewery Restaurant.

Had pizzas would have been nice to have fresh homemade pizza base the base tasted pre bought and frozen. Chips were nice. Overall though very expensive for the quality of food would not eat their again. Mornington peninsula brewery by far better quality of food and beer and cheaper.

My wife and i took the kids and had Lunch! Awesome friendly service and great food. We had the chicken/sundried tomato/pesto/goats cheese pizza and the kids had the fish n chips. I had a pot of Reginald IPA bloody beautiful!

We loved this place, friendly staff, very good food & beer. Will be back! We had pulled pork with pancakes - amazing flovours together.
Justin Stackpole
Great beer and those pizzas were yum!! Friendly staff and all table service. Sensational!

Never disappointed by the beer food & service. One of my favourite places to go with my family or with my wonderful fiancé
Tim Iline
Fine beer, good food, nice people. If you’re in Torquay, drop in, you won’t regret it.
Glenn Slater
Great food, great people, amazing beers!!! I’ve had them on tap and in cans and they are always quality beers.
Tim Patterson
Had a great meal - loved the pork shoulder. Good service and warm relaxed atmosphere - also good for kids
Sarah J Petty
Great food wine and husband loves the beer .. nice industrial look just a little chilly .. fire would of been good ! Us gold coasters feel the cold ! But over all good work .. !!!
Murray Payne
What a delightful place. Full of atmosphere and the staff were so happy it was a little concerning! No one should be that happy at work! Food was great and the fireplace cured my bad back. Outstanding!
JeanPaul van Dijk
Really good craft beer, great atmosphere, very friendly service and a tasty pizza pepperoni. Pity that the t-shirts were sold-out ;)
Paul Martin
Ask for the jalapeño slaw burger. Not listed on the menu, but available, and it's up there with one of the best burgers I've had-- I spent lots of time in the US last year where I ate lots of awesome burgers, so this is saying something!

If your down I Torquay and you love your beers then you have to busy the Blackman’s Brewery to taste the beers and have some food to go with it. They have some great options for beer. The service is excellent and very welcoming. It gets very crowded as it is very popular. We had some food to share and it was excellent.
Alan Tse
Food is actually quite nice but the portions are small. The beers are excellent and it would be nice to try a few more. We ordered the special sword fish skewers which for $10 didn’t give you much and same with the caprese salad. Mozzarella was excellent as was the heirloom tomatoes but there wasn’t much of it! Come for the beer, maybe the pizza and chips!
Magpie
Plenty of beards, baseball caps and tattoos at Blackmans Brewery. Quick friendly service and plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. The freshly brewed beers are all good and while taste is a very personal thing, I believe their Reginald IPA is a real winner.
Don't worry about the food.
HANGRY
I seriously only give 2 stars because of the lovely service up the front and the hot chips which were nice. We ordered a burger each as soon as my burger arrived there was a little eyelash hair on it which I thought was mine and dusted it off, upon finishing half of my burger there was a big black hair directly on the patty. I wanted to throw up. The hygiene in that place has to change. Flys everywhere dirty tables but the hair was putrid makes me wonder if it is because I ordered my patty ‘well done’. They did apologise and removed it off the bill however we paid for the rest of the dirty food. It also does not change the fact that who’s know what we eaten now mixed into that homemade patty. We both feel very unwell and have stomach pains. Never again. Disgusting.
Olive
The service was lovely and the vibe of the place is cool but the food wasn’t crash hot. The pizzas were super oily to the point the oil was dripping down our hands as we ate. We even ordered the dessert snickers pizza and that came out dripping with oil. Can’t fault the drinks so would definitely go back for that.
Let me start by saying service was astounding. I loved the table service and the team was attentive and able to recommend dishes etc.

We shared a tasting paddle which had 6 out of the 8 main brews. It would have been nice if we could have chosen which ones we wanted and also if they included their single batches however, the paddle let us try and experience their range.

My fave was the weitbier and the tomato&basil gose (ordered separate). I normally enjoy a pale ale or stout but either I didn't quite enjoy them in this range or i've had better.

Food was nice, nothing too exciting. Maryland was a bit of a letdown - pricepoint & presentation. Disappointed they didn't serve the mussles on a Sunday.

Overall nice place to catch up with friends with a beer and light snacks. Music and ambience was light and chill. There's oudoor seating and even a fooze ball table.
Paul
Great food and wide range of beers brewed on-site. Very well presented and a stone's throw from the beach. A must-see for any beer aficionados!

Nice location, great seating options inside, outside, high, low, lounge. We shared onion rings, fish tacos (both mice but batter too heavy), chicken wings, pork pancakes between 4. Pork pancakes were good: 4 thin crepes, pulled pork (nice flavour but a little dry), fresh salad. Beer tasting paddle was what we came for & it didn't disappoint. Standout of the meal was the white choc cheesecake mousse. Generous size, with nicely toasted granola & thick jam. It was beautifully presented, flavours & textures went together so well.

Came here for dinner with my partner and we weren’t disappointed. We were greeted at the door and chose seats to our liking. Atmosphere was nice and the waiter was attentive. We ordered drinks within 5 minutes of sitting down, and food shortly after. We had the marinated olives, the chicken pizza and the pumpkin pizza which were all delicious. Nothing to complain about although the IPA beer I had was just a little too bitter for my liking, will have to try out the pale ale when we visit again!

Been there a few weeks ago with a group of friends. Staff was really lovely. Beer was very nice. Food was ok. My friend got the sliders which were nice. My beetroot salad was nice, presentation was great but not really practical to eat. Another friend got the seed salad but wasn’t very happy with it.
The Dear Luncher
Blackman's beer is tremendous. While marauding down The Great Ocean Road recently, The Dear Luncher managed to stop in and sample some of it. Specifically their pale ale and IPA.

As for the food, a little bit of a let down. The chicken tenders did nothing to live up to their name. They were dry, miles away from tender. Blackman's pizza game also needs to lift. The tomato sauce base tasted a little too close to store bought and the salami used did not appeal greatly.

Food shortcomings aside, this regional microbrewery is well worth your time if you're in the area. Go for the beer if nothing else. This would be a terrific place to perch for a few hours and that's what a microbrewery should be all about.

Came for dinner tonight after hearing it's a good pub/brewery to visit when in Torquay. The beers were the highlight - the paddle being a good way to get your tastebuds familiar with the different beers on offer. We ordered a few starters to share between 6, and all were fairly tasty. We got haloumi, edamame, onion rings and olives and fried chicken (which were juicy, tender and very meaty). I'm not one who normally likes fried chicken but these were not overwhelming battered and were hot and very tasty especially with the aioli sauce they came with. We then ordered 3 pizzas to share - the beef brisket, pepperoni and pumpkin. After we ordered, the server came back and let us know that they were out of mushrooms and we could substitute it for potatoes. This made the pizza quite dough-y and dense but the brisket was tasty. The pumpkin with rocket, feta and caramelised onion was the standout for sure however all of them were lacking something ... I think salt? They all seemed bland and lack lustre. The other downfall was the service. Slow, inattentive and not very efficient.
Tiamarie
Decided to pop in with a friend for a drink and meal. Beer was good, but we were terribly disappointed with the margarita pizza (pictured) that cost $19.50. Not only was it tiny, but it had no flavour. My cat could have made a better pizza. Left feeling ripped off and fungry.
Whats On The Grill?
Good spot. Beers are very good while the atmosphere is casual and fun. Staff are attentive and food is solid. I would certainly return for sure.

Excellent service and great food, loved it. Great sharing dishes, pork and Salmon were amazing.
Enjoyed the pizzas as well. Kids loved the chips. We loved their beers, Bob and Ernie were the best. Thanks guys for great experience.
Eats Life Happiness
Delicious & fresh tapas food and house brews that are especially fantastic when shared with a few mates. Friendly and chill atmosphere. Great service.

Fantastic Beer. If you feel like a nicely brewed beer after a satisfying surf, this is the place. So centrally located and the prices aren't too expensive. Their Pale Ale and IPAs were clear winners. It was Saturday afternoon but the staff were well-trained and they made sure the drinks and food weren't taking too long. Food was expensive and nothing to remember about. Decor is nice and open/modern; I love this ubiquity of microbreweries across Melbourne these days.

Very impressed by this place! Firstly, we really enjoyed the beer and cider. Exactly as the menu described! The staff were fantastic - attentive, friendly and knowledgable. Being a Saturday night, it was very busy but you could tell the staff were doing their best.
We ordered the charcuterie board, chips and pork hock pancakes.
Charcuterie board was top notch - amazing blue cheese, quince paste, pate, black pudding etc. The waiter described each element when he brought it to the table which is always helpful!
The serving of chips was very generous and they were great! Crisp on the outside and soft inside, served with aioli and tomato sauce.
The pork hock pancakes were nice, but the meat was a bit too sweet for me.
Would recommend and hope to visit again when we're in the area.

Good to come here for excellent beer and some chips. The dark beer is highly recommended. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The live music was just a tad too loud! I couldn't have a conversation across the table. Food is very average though: pumpkin pizza with a tomato base, the bread with the halloumi was cold. Olives were okay, not the best. Fish tacos were okay though!

Great service and great food. Satisfied with everything we ordered there. Highly recommend their apple stuffed pork loin with blue cheese and roasted maple pumpkin. A humble place with great taste 👍👍👍

Came with a group of friends, sat outside in the sun, drank lots of yummy cider and ate yummy food - what more could you want!! I had the ribs and slaw, it was delicious. The hot chips were great, loved the chicken tenders too. Husband had the burger of the day, which was also great. No complaints!

We ordered lamb bites, chicken pizza with corn, and chips. Overall it was a good experience. The lamb bites looked a bit different than what we imagined it would be but they tasted good. The pizza base was thin and crispy and while there's a lack of taste, it's still pretty good. The chips was great and probably what i enjoyed the most that night. I forgot to order their home brewed beer. The food first haha. But i'll be back.
Timbo The Kitchen Bitch
Called in for dinner and sat in front of the open fire, started with a great pale ale beer. We then ordered a pumpkin spinach goats cheese and caramelized onion pizza, a Drysdale haloumi picked zucchini and mint Chilli and lastly and my favorite the sticky pork hock , wow all fantastic, good service and friendly staff , yes a good place to go !!!

We tried the tasting paddles and enjoyed the variety of beers they had to offer. Although 6 beers come on the paddle, they had 7 beers available, so squeezed an small sampler of their newest beer, which is much appreciated.

I'm used to experimental flavors and pairings, but I found looking through the menu difficult and confusing, especially the "share" section. For example, it was hard to imagine what "sticky pork hock, crushed nuts, pickled cucumber and ginger, pancakes" tasted like all together, let alone deciding whether I was craving it. We kept it simple and ordered the chips, Zeally Bay sourdough that came with cheese/beer dip, chicken tenders with harissa mayo, pumpkin goat cheese pizza, and a brownie type dessert. The chips were seasoned perfectly and there was something in the seasoning that elevated it from regular chips. The sourdough bread was one of my favorites as well with the dukkah, olive oil, and dip that we scraped clean from the bowl. The chicken tenders were good, but nothing special. The pizza was my least favorite; I didn't enjoy the toppings and my husband didn't like the crust.

Overall, I would highly recommend the beers and less so the food.

Absolutely love this place, one of our go to spots on a Friday night. Such a great atmosphere, happy and welcoming staff. Food is fantastic, my personal favourite is the Haloumi in the shared options. I highly recommend for a few drinks with friends.
Tony
Been here and like the idea. Love supporting innovative local restaurants. The dynamic and feel is ok. Unfortunately simply does not live upto the promise. Will go back, however more for beers than food

Tonight's special burger, kangaroo with rocket, bacon and relish was brilliant (get over it you animal rights folk) and the cloudy lager very good indeed.
Red Rabbit
Lively atmosphere and good craft beer. We didn't order food, but it looked fairly decent and there were a lot of vegie options.

Will definitely be back....
Mell
Fantastic service, really nice brews and food is great, very tasty and different flavors. A little on the pricey side but well worth it. Great set up and good atmosphere! Will be back!
Tony
Great beer. Interesting food. A bit pricey on the food but it is usually very nice but quite basic for the price. Staff are usually good. A little noisy as the place echoes a lot. The industrial look. But its a brewery and the beer is very nice. So drink up .
Jacqui Scott
Friendly and attentive staff but little communication meant that we were asked for our drink orders three times within 5 minutes from different staff. The food was pretty good, and all four of us left the restaurant satisfied. The prices seemed a little over the top though. It's a great concept with little competition in Torquay, but it just needs perfecting.
Kristian La Greca
Friendly staff, excellent interior and energetic atmosphere. Food and drink was quick to come out. Everything was tasty and fresh, a great start to a weekend away in Torquay.

Awesome beer, food, location. Great value and very friendly service. I've recommended the place to all my friends. Keep up the great work !
Catherine
Scath. Had a delicious lunch today. The fish tacos were delicious, as was the fried chicken and grilled halloumi
R0bsta
The beer here was good, the food ok and nothing more - though overpriced for what it is. The reason I didn't like this place was the staff - who were nice but useless. We ordered a lamb souvlaki and were served haloumi, with the waitress insisting that it was lamb. If you can't tell the difference between meat and cheese then perhaps working in hospitality is not for you. A guy on the next table also got two pints of beer spilt over him - not ideal.

In love!. I can not write about the food but gorgeous and friendly staff serving easy to drink tasty beer & cider. What more could you ask for?

What a killing!. The thing that is hard to comprehend is why are micro breweries are so expensive? I have brewed my own beer many times and the cost of production minus labor is minimal, about 50 cents a pint. They should be cheaper than a pub, not excessively dearer. Then again, i suppose it is very trendy to sit around drinking their fantastic tasting Indian pale ale,i know i liked it! However that was not my disappointment. The service was great on that drizzly, windy Sunday afternoon as the waitress busied herself looking after the few non fair weather patrons. We ordered the B.O.A. x 3. Pork,Lamb and Tofu dumplings/buns.When questioned, this is apparently how they come. How i would have liked them was with ample filling in a pizza base folded and cooked in the pizza oven with a crisp bottom. What we got was petite filling heavily moulded in pizza dough and slightly heated in a microwave. We did the best we could with the contents and some of the dough. My wife then kneaded the left overs together and put it back on the serving board. The quality and quantity of your food should always be gauged by what comes back and not what goes out! I did not see any binoculars but i am sure they saw us coming.

Yum yum pork bun!. What a fantastic experience! We went to Blackman's to try their beer and ended up staying for the afternoon! Children in tow we planned to make it a quick visit but as soon as we arrived the friendly waiter greeted us, showed us to a table and offered the kids paper and pencils, that teamed with the most delicious meals (the pork bun special was superb) helped keep kids entertained while we were given a description of the beers and settled into a tasting paddle, before choosing our favourites.
We will absolutely be returning and recommend it to anyone looking for a happy and tasty experience.

AH-MAZING!!. I have been to Blackmans Brewery several times now and cannot get enough of the place! With a variety of foods to suit all pallets and a menu that has clearly been thought out to pair with their delicious craft beer you can't go wrong! I have a soft spot for the brownie, best I've ever had.
The Staff are what make this place so easy to come back to, from being seated to your table and then having full table service, it's fantastic! They are so friendly and have great knowledge of the food and beer they are serving.
Do yourself a favor and tick this place off your list this summer!
Ange
The beer is delicious and perfectly complemented with a variety of foods. I recommend the beer cheese, definitely a favourite. The staff were great and kind enough to provide a tour of the brewery. Cheers!

LOVED IT - Best Place in Torquay.. FOOD = INCREDIBLE, BEER = BEYOND DELICIOUS!! I have dined at Blackman's brewery a couple of times now.... I have never really been one to write reviews, but after dining there on Sunday night and having the Pork Knuckle Special - I just had to share it with everyone. The food was delicious and came out nice a quick - you can tell that a lot of thought has gone into creating delicious meals that marry perfectly with their craft beer. The tasting paddle was a great option to get to try and learn a little bit about all of their delicious beers. The staff were lovely and were all very knowledgeable on all elements of both the beer and cuisine. I live just outside of Torquay and this will definitely be my go to establishment from now on....WELL DONE GUYS - Torquay needed this.

Poor customer service. We went to the Blackman's Brewery for a pre- planned group event on Cup Weekend . The female staff member who organised the booking was super encouraging throughout all arrangments via email and phone. The said staff member was very aware of the groups arrangements e.g. the numbers, the occasion, the time of arrival etc. Everything was great until we actually entered the venue.
The group were at the premises for approximately 2 hours and spent approximately $1K on food and drinks. The staff (especially the female) was not welcoming, made inappropriate and judgemental comments to other patrons about the party. She must not have realised that we knew the party well (as we were allocated a seperate table) and made negative and inaccurate accusations about the group. It was very unprofessional as they were not being inappropriate or disorderly.
All in all the customer service made everyone in the group feel awkard and uncomfortable. This, paired with the fact, that the food took over an hour to be served, made a dissapointing and unenjoyable experience for all.
Wouldn't recommend the venue - food was ok but staff were pretentious, unprofessional and down right rude.
MelbGirl
Great addition. We loved the pork buns and really enjoyed sitting in the sun with a delish beer. Attentive friendly service - we will be back for sure
Chris
Sensational beer garden. Spent a beautiful afternoon out in the beer garden. Awesome beer, great pizzas and salads, and a good time had by all. Great addition to Torquay
