Review Il Matto - Torquay

Hands down the best gluten free pasta I have ever had! Great service, large serving sizes (both entrees and mains), reasonably priced for what you get. Very glad we were able to get a table (would recommend booking to make sure you don't miss out in the summer).

Far and away the best authentic Italian pizza we've tasted anywhere. The favours are rich, toppings are fresh and plentiful and bases are cooked to perfection! This is our takeaway treat whenever we're in Torquay. Can't recommend highly enough!

Pretty good Italian (definitely had better but not bad at all). The menu is very meat based but they do have a few veggie and vegan options, you can get gluten free base or pasta and vegan cheese as well. The mains are MASSIVE (just as a warning make sure your stomach is ready 🥵). Got the gnocchi Napoli which was very good but wish the serving was a bit bigger.

Brilliant and sumptuous authentic Italian cuisine delivered by enthusiastic and passionate staff. The drinks, even their own wine complimented the food beautifully. I don’t usually order desserts but as one can see by the photos they are nothing but sensational. The lychee martini finished the night off wonderfully well. This competes with the best of Italian in Melbourne. Thank you Salvatore and team.

We dined at Il Matto during our March '22 holiday at Torquay and had a great night out. Do yourself a favour and check it out. We ordered the Aussie Meatlovers (With mushrooms and eggs) and the La Marinara Pizzas and they were exquisite. The in house pastry was delectable (thin, light and NOT at all oily as so often is the case). Both pizzas had top quality tomato sauce and mozzarello cheese. The meatlovers had sliced ham (not shredded), and the hot salami provided a delightful zing without being overwhelming. It was cooked so beautifully - best pizza I have ever had (and I have enjoyed a great many pizzas). The rest of the ingredients on the Marinara were top quality and the Mussels were served in their shells for us to add to the pizza. A really nice touch. We very much enjoyed the great service and the decor which was so authentically Italian.

An authentic Italian restaurant where the food was really nice & there is an extensive drinks & cocktails menu. I had the seafood risotto special & my wife had a pizza. Seafood risotto was wholesome & they didn’t stooge out on the seafood which was good. We shared Aranchini as an entree which was tasty. We were seated next to the bar. Inside the restaurant was very loud, we could hear the chefs & staff yelling at each other in Italian the whole time which didn’t make it very relaxing. COVID compliance was pretty poor as well, staff not wearing masks or checking vax certificates.

One of the best foods i’ve ever had! Taste, freshness, quality, presentation and ambience, everything was outstanding. Will definitely visit again!

The wood oven pizzas were absolutely delicious. We also ordered the 6 hour slow cooked beef pasta. I personally thought it was a bit dry, but my sister in law who has way better taste buds loved it. Marinara pasta was fantastic, and the calamari was made perfectly. Service was of the highest standard. Food was served fast too. Very enjoyable meal, and would definitely drop by again.

Loved the pizza here. A very authentic Italian place. The staffs were very friendly. Great atmosphere to dine at.

We loved this place with it's friendly staff and a wide menu of great home style Italian food. So much in fact that after our first night we returned the next day for takeaway, and then again the following night! It's 'nonnas' cooking rather than haute cuisine but really tasty and nicely done. We especially liked the white sauce mushroom pizza with 2 cheeses and the warm roasted vegetable and rocket salad dish, but also sampled the delicious pasta.

BEST ITALIAN I HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME

We can’t wait to return to Torquay, just to dine here again. We loved our dinner here and cannot wait to return!

The Fettuccine pasta had slow cooked lamb and was absolutely sensational.

The Meat Lovers Pizza was seriously delicious. The base and crust ticked all the boxes. Safe to say there wasn’t anything left on the plate afterwards.

We got a takeaway Tiramisu, and that was seriously one of the best I’ve ever had. Next time we will be taking two each!

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou for this incredible dinner 🖤

Had Carbonara and lamb pasta both high quality and delicious. Desserts were also nice. Great atmosphere, good service and friendly staff. Reasonably priced. One of the best Italian restaurant we have been to.

Best Italian in Torquay, I visit regularly and have always enjoyed it. Great wood fired pizzas, and authentic pasta dishes. The staff are generally very helpful.

Food was OK, helpful waiters, busy but nice ambiance, but overpriced and touristy food. Expected better food for the high prices. Won't rush back.

By far the best pizza in Torquay. We eat here on a regular basis and have NEVER been disappointed.
The staff go above and beyond in making sure you have a great dining experience.
Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a good pizza or pasta

Definitely great service and food. Obviously popular venue. Only loses one star due to apparent price gouging on a few items. Oh, and the pizza bases were rather soggy despite being delivered in good time.

We weren’t expecting too much when we picked up our takeaway pizzas here (an Aussie and a diavola from memory), but the pizzas tasted quite good with nice bases.

Welcomed by friendly staff most if not all seem to be working here from Italy. Drink and food menu was quickly handed over and staff helped with recommendations. I had the Arancini Balls to start which was great. The Linguine Allo Scoglio which has fresh seafood through out and felt like finishing the night with Tiramisu which was very nice.

Certainly be back again for the food and friendly staff.

Great service and terrific atmosphere mainly due to the energetic and friendly staff. Food was delicious and fresh, try the gnocchi you won't be dissapointed. Finish the night with tiramisu and a shot of limoncello and you have the perfect wedding anniversary date night...

Charming staff, incredibly fresh ingredients and a decent selection of beer and wine. Sadly, I don't live locally and only stop past when in the area on business. If only the opened a second location in Melbourne! If you haven't been here before, do yourself a favour and stop past for a meal.

I celebrated my 30th birthday at Il Matto and was blown away by the staff, food and vibe. The staff were super attentive, even allowing my large group to be seated earlier and checking we were happy. The pizza is AMAZING. The drinks are great. Thank you!!

Very well appointed decor, amazing wait staff, excellent food and if you close your eyes it's as though you've just stepped into Italy. Great selection of drinks and desserts to round out a lovely lunch or dinner, even breakfast now I hear

We recently had takeaway from Il Matto while staying in Torquay and it was really, really good. We were looking at a number of pizza places and happened to stumble across this one online, gave it a go and we weren't disappointed. We ordered the Margherita and Tartufata pizza and the tomato sauce on the Margherita was delicious; fresh, not overpowering, tasty and so well complimented by the delicious fior di latte mozzarella. The Tartufata was also delicious for those that love mushrooms and again the cheeses they used were so, so good. Thin crusts, with just the right chew. The only thing I would say is that the Tartufata needed a bit of salt for my liking. These people know what they're doing and if we lived in the area this would be our go to pizza place. We didn't try any of their starters or pastas but I'd be surprised if they weren't as good.
