Was extremely busy, but waitress recommended dishes for 4 of us. Food was delicious. Only problem was it all was all so rushed from the moment we walked in until we left but it the times we’re living in. Would definitely go again
First time here, loved it. Good vibe. Really enjoyed the fritters, steamed dumpling dish & eggplant.
I really did love everything and can’t wait to go back. It’s LOUD which is easy to moderate if you look into it.
So delicious, fun and sweet lovely staff.
Every time we came to Adelaide, it seems to have more and more excellent eatery. This time round, it is Parwana.
This restaurant is nicely located on Henley Beach Road (somehow Google map will direct you to Northcote Street which is to the side of the restaurant. The front door is on the main road). Once you step in, it is a lovely decorate with Rose water bottles and other drinks can.
The service is fast and we got to our seats straightaway. There are 2 seating time on Sunday, 6-6.30, and 8pm. We took the earlier seating.
Food was a little bit of a wait once it has been ordered but it definitely worth it. We have the eggplant and the lamb as recommended and had the candied orange rice (yay you can get half serve). Oh my goodness, everything is on point. The eggplant is silky, very tasty with the yoghurt sauce. The Lamb with the chutney is amazing. The rice, yes, pretty sure that's the best. You might think, candied orange. Once you taste it, you know it is there but not overpowering.
With the pricing and the serving size, we will be coming back next time for visit.
Oh one more thing, you would want to call up to book in advance. It is fully seated even on a Sunday night.
Took my work mates here after coming here with a few friends. We had the banquet and it was a) so much food and really really good value and b) freakin delish!!!
My family and I popped into this restaurant for dinner on a Saturday without a booking and the place was fully packed. Luckily, a table failed to show up for their reservation and we got a table for 4 rightaway. The waitress serving us was friendly and explained the menu to us, and gave us recommendations. We ordered the steam dumplings, kabuli palaw, eggplant dish and the lamb pieces with naan; and tried the sour cherry sharbat drink. The food was served very quickly and all of the dishes were really tasty. We managed to finish all the dishes.
I don't have much exposure with eating Afghan food but really enjoyed the food here...would recommend!!
polite and friendly staff, loved the fried dumplings a must have whenever you visit this place. authentic afghan cuisine and totally different to ghan kebab which is good in itself, limited options however can't find a fault in any dish we ordered and sometimes less is good as it avoids confusion especially when it's so good. this place left us totally stuffed and satisfied
Forgot to take a photo of the food. Was my first time trying Afghanistan food and it was delicious! Would highly recommend the dumplings, probably the best dumplings in Adelaide that I’ve tried. Staff were friendly, wouldn’t definitely reserve to not miss a spot as it’s busy!
This place is great!! First time I have tried Afghan and was very happy with everything. ordered a mix of things including the dumplings, eggplant and lamb dish. ALl were excellent. the dumplings have a lot of flavour and are also served with quite a bit of their own sauce which is nice. will be back again.
Went 27/4/18 as a party of 4. We had shared platters of dumplings, eggplant, grilled lamb and rice. So tasty. The service was ok and the platters arrived about 10-15 minutes after ordering. The restaurant was fully patronised before 7pm and was quite noisy so if you have difficulty hearing in noisy environments (as does the author) it may be an issue. The venue is BYO only and corkage was $10 per bottle. The food bill was $77 which made it very inexpensive given none of us could complain that there wasn't enough food.
We will definitely return.
I have been wanting to visit Parwana forever, and finally got some takeaway the other night and it didn't disappoint. The chicken gosht was grilled to perfection with an amazing blend of spices. The dumplings were TO DIE FOR- the mince sauce slow cooked to make a rich, tomatoey, delicious topping for the delicate dumplings. Two small negatives were that the naan was a bit dry and tough and the food didn't come with any cutlery which made for a messy picnic for my husband and I. But I can forgive those small transgressions with food as tasty as that! Will go again for sure!
With two sittings a night, this place was absolutely packed when a group of 5 of us dropped past. The concise menu makes choosing dishes easy, and sharing is highly recommended. All the dishes came out promptly and tasted as delicious as they look. Get into this place as soon as they have a spot for you!
Amazing food, fantastic service, beautiful restaurant and ambience. We had both starters, and a range of mains (koftas, dumplings, pilaf, marinated lamb and the eggplant speciality). All were tasty, fresh and well presented. Highly recommended as one of the best restaurants in Adelaide
The food here is really good! Dumplings are very nice, the rice dishes are very tasty, every dish I've tried here so far is awesome.
I don't know if it's worth all of the hype it gets, but it is delicious food and worth repeat visits!
Everything is good form the food to the service to the location. I will come back. BOOKINGS are a must this place gets packed, I saw a lot of people being turned away.
Parwana never disappoints, whether it's takeaway or eat in. The banjan borani (eggplant dish) is one of my favourite dishes ever. I hope this place never closes (or moves!).
Tucked away on a quiet corner along Henley Beach Road, Parwana is one of the best ethnic restaurants in Adelaide. The family restaurant specialises in traditional Afghan cuisine and offers a revolving menu. My girlfriend and I ordered several classic Afghan dishes including Ashak or fried dumplings stuffed with chives, Narenj Palaw or an aged long grain rice topped with candied orange, and Seb Morabah for dessert.
The fried dumplings were absolutely fresh and delicious. Topped with mince meat and garlic yoghurt, the explosion of flavours - savoury, sour, spicy and sweet - ensures that the dumplings were intriguing and not monotonous for every bite. The paprika and mint garnish added further to the texture and flavour of the dumplings.
The Narenj Palaw is another champion. The shaved candied orange complements flawlessly with the high quality long grain rice and exudes a distinct and appetising aroma which begs me to finish them. What's more? The almonds and pistachios hidden in the mesh work of long grain rice added texture and layers to the amazing dish.
The dessert, Seb Morabah, is an eye-opener. Served with cardomom and vanilla ice-cream, the delicious preserved apple pudding is a definite crowd pleaser for anyone from 7 to 70 years old.
Parwana is an amazing restaurant and a must-try for anyone in Adelaide.
Yummo! Seriously love the eggplant and dumplings! Always recommending this place to others, has become very busy and popular since we first started going when they opened. It's not hard to see why! Taste, quality and price all on point.
Amazing homecooked food at its best. The staff are extremely friendly.. would definitely recommend their dumplings and eggplant dish. One of my favourite restaurants in Adelaide
Came here for dinner with my wife and friend.
Food: We ordered the traditional dips for entree, narenj palaw (rice) and gosfandeh degee (lamb kebab) with a side of narenj palaw (eggplant). All the dishes were superb. The rice was colourful and flavourful. The spices used in the lamb were exotic and yet familiar. All up we spent $80 and left too full to finish all the dishes. Servings were very generous.
Ambience: Rustic decor. The walls were fixed with photos and oil lamps. It felt like we had entered an Afghani house. The restaurant was full but the noise was manageable.
Service: Friendly and efficient. Our dishes were brought out in 20 minutes.
Tips: This is the best Middle Eastern restaurant in Adelaide and a must try! They do take credit card.
First time dining there. Great cozy atmosphere and experience. Food was divine, best home cooked meal ever. Best dips I've ever had in Australia and outstanding dish for me would the eggplant with tomato sauce!! It's a winner! Would definitely be back with friends!:))

Had the Chukayih for the appetizer and realised that tables who ordered this dish had different combinations of dips, ensuring an exciting meal! The real star however, is the Bajaan Borani (signature eggplant) - you have to try this! Highly recommended! Decor of the restaurant is cute and service is quick.
Afghan food? Look no further, this is absolutely the best you can get in Adelaide, variety of dishes and they always hit the spot.
Cosy restaurant highly recommended
This restaurant deserves a huge wrap. The experience is unique. Served by a humble family whom are very polite and not overbearing when they serve you. We were not really certain what to order hence we left it up to our waiter to recommend and deliver. He certainly did not disappoint. Most certainly will return to this wonderful place. One of my favourites. PS. Don't forget to BYO as not licensed. (Don't let this put you off)
One of Poppy's favourite urban eats in Adelaide. Yet to be letdown by Parwana and their incredibly friendly staff. Make sure to book because this place is always packed. Poppys favourite dishes are of course the Mantu & Ashak Dumplings. Incredible. Amazing steamed and fried packages bursting with Middle Eastern spices, flavours and aromas. The Kabuli Palaw rice dish is also a beautiful accompaniment. Many times Poppy has ordered the Gosfandeh Degee which is the slow cooked Lamb in yoghurt with coriander sauces. Sounds like a match made in heaven? Well it is. Divine. Poppy definitely recommends you foodies try out Parwana, it's a must eat here in SA. Thumb up, you won't be disappointed
Have you ever wondered what Afghan food is like? Adelaide has a plethora of choices when it comes to Middle Eastern food alone with their beautiful flavoursome spices. Parwana Afghan Kitchen was our restaurant of choice for a catch up. Believe it or not I have never been to Parwana until this year. I know, I know, bad foodie. Their famous dumplings I first tried at the Adelaide Fringe Festival made me determined to visit this institution everyone speaks so highly of.
Love love love Parwana! This is one of my favourite restaurants in Adelaide. Eggplant is to die for! Kabuli and Narenji palaw are both good, although i prefer Kabuli personally. Grilled meats are also good! Definitely recommend Parwana!
Amazing tasty food!! Definitely the place to go if you want something a little different. The staff are all polite and very friendly! I've been here twice and already can't wait to go back and try their other dishes on the menu
One word: dumplings. Amazing dumplings. Amazing everything!! Parwana present such a gorgeous feast for food lovers. Meaty plates as well as scrumptious vego options.
If you have a predilection for not eating the same old, repetitive meals around, head to Parwana Afghan Kitchen for something deliciously authentic. A well-run family owned business, the food is made with heart and flavour while the eclectic decour is infused with rustically painted cement walls, mismatched ornaments and artwork, which feels just right. Typically noisy and full to the brim, don't forget to book. We ordered the lamb kofta and morgh degee and were sublimely full for only $39 between 2. The latter was my fav; a hefty amount of tender, herbed grilled chicken pieces coupled with fresh cubed vegetables, a spicy chutney and naan for days. Mmmm. Rightly so and making stomachs happy since 2009, they've expanded their business to 3 establishments within Adelaide, I'm not complaining.
Brilliant food, menu changes twice a week, make sure you go both times, food is as authentic as you would imagine it would be, amazing tastes! Great atmosphere in here too!
Delicious food, and good value for money. We really enjoyed the dumplings.
Service was a bit scattered, but overall a pleasant experience.
Parwana is the kind of place you go if you what a guaranteed good feed without the hefty price tag. I have been here for a work function where we booked the whole restaurant, it was a fantastic night had by all. I also took girl friends here for a casual dinner and we asked the staff to provide us with enough to share between 5 of us. There sure was plenty to go around including rice, chicken curry, delicious eggplant, grilled lamb and dumplings. Their traditional drinks are also delicious, my favourite being the rose sharbat. Unfortunately the night we went there was only ice cream available for dessert so if you're after a sweet treat you might have to go elsewhere in the area. The staff are lovely and we will be back again very soon.
Parwana is fantastic. Just read all the other reviews. Every meal is delicious, the staff are attentive and helpful. Make sure you bring your own wine as no alcohol is available but corkage is affordable. Make sure you book in advance otherwise you won't get in
Mmmm amazing! I loved this place. Thanks for making my new years eve celebration delightful. The food here is so delicious. Good flavour in all the dishes. Good portion sizes and very well priced. Loved the $10 corkage and the fact that it goes to charity. This place is so good! Highly recommended and would go back for sure 😊
A wonderful place to experience afghan cuisine. One of the best in Adelaide. Service is prompt and the food is amazing! Went with a bunch of friends and everyone had something good to say about the place... It isn't overly expensive.. The meats were cooked to perfection!! Will definitely be back again!
Yum, yum, yum. Really happy with my meal. I can see why it is very hard to get a booking at this place! What a treat. Kabuli was excellent, true afghan flavour. Love it! Kofta balls was super yum. Love it!
Afghan food and service like no other... So homely with the family staff and even the crockery... It really feels like you're dining in their home. Choose anything on the menu it's all delicious. Food comes out quick. Everything's reasonably priced, it's always a good night at parwana. Only downfall is the acoustics in the room, it gets a bit loud in there because it's always so packed, but we're always too busy eating anyway
Wow! Authentic, tasty, unreal! went here midweek for my birthday and luckily we booked...extremely popular! We felt like we were in the Middle East eating at a family home. The staff made us feel sooo welcome. Food was fantastic! Don't forget to bring your wine!
A personal favourite. Beautiful Afghani food and lots of it. The dumplings in particular are a highlight. BYO wine, but corkage fees are very reasonable. The owners and their are warm and friendly, and the decor reflects this, with family photos sprinkled around the walls.
I had been hanging out to go to Parwana after recommendations from colleagues and friends. When I finally did go, I was not disappointed. The food was just amazing. You can tell it is a family-run business and the food tastes like good, home-cooked food. I'll definitely go back!!

Parwana was such a great dining experience for me.
It was a great place to bring vegetarians as there are lots of options (may I suggest the eggplant).
The dumplings were delicious.
You got a lot of food for the price so great value for money.
The desserts weren't my favourite, I'm not a big fan of the home made ice cream but it was still a fantastic evening and I hope to come back soon.
Three words: Depth Of Flavour.
Parwana has NAILED it.
Started with vegetable fritters: super crispy, lovely that they aren't greasy & served with really flavourful chutney unlike anything I've had before. So herby and fresh with a bit of a chilli kick.
For main we shared the yoghurt marinated chicken & the eggplant.
The eggplant is one of the best things I've ever eaten I kid you not. It was simmered in fresh tomato sauce. The eggplant was SO smooth and the richness of the sauce was immense. But not in the way meat of meat based dishes where you can only eat a spoonful, I could eat it every day of my life and still love it.
Amazing.
You have to eat this.
We were tossing up over whether to order eggplant or rice. Wow did we make the right decision. The garlic yoghurt on top brought it all together.
The chicken was lovely and tender, had a beautiful flavour and served with naan, chutney, and fresh tomato, cucumber, herbs & chilli.
Nice quick service despite a bustling night.
And such good value for money.
I cannot recommend highly enough.
I lived a sad existence until I ate here. Parwana is officially my new fave in all of Rads. Fritters, eggplant, dumplings are essential to try. Unpretentious, good service and amazing food.
Sensational fresh flavour filled cuisine!
This is one of the biggest surprises I have ever had! I loved it every dish was filled with such a rich aray of herbs and spices (but not overally spicy) and it was such a organic overall experience.
We selected the trio of dips to start with and then the koftas and the morgh degee and shared.
The sauce with the koftas was rich in flavour and the corriander was the perfect touch. The salad with the morgh was so fresh and complimented the perfectly cooked chicken so well.
I felt really good as I ate it realising that there was minimal additives in it and the food was of such high quality.
Service was excellent and it was an all over very pleasant evening.
The menu offers a range of different menu options and the menu is different on a Wed and thurs than it is the other days.
Live a little and take a gamble it is worth it.
I highly recommend this afghan kitchen experience. Meals are amazing and reasonable. Eggplant dish , dumplings and chicken in yoghurt were our three dishes. What an amazing meal. Authentic, flavoursome and generous size serves.
Definitely making this a regular occurrence.
Yum! went in with my friends on sunday night, the staffs were friendly, she ordered amazing food for us seven people. I personally loved eggplant and the orange peelings fired rice!
Amazing food, something a little different than you're probably used to but so delicious. I crave the carrot dumplings all god damn time... And the candied orange rice. Ugh so good.
Never knew afghan food was as tasty as the food served at parwana. This restaurant is always full and it's advisable to make a reservation before going
Awesome food, super friendly wait staff loved the experience. This would be one of our best meals on our recent food & wine trip to Adelaide/Barossa..yumlicious dishes on the menu from the afghani household is what you will get in this rustic home style restaurant...if u r in Adelaide def try this place...
This is the epitome of cheap and cheerful. Even won over my very fussy eater sister and restrictive dieting parents. The dumplings and eggplant dishes are highly recommended!
This place is great! Attentive and personable service that really makes you feel like you've just arrived at someone's home for a big and boisterous party. Most importantly, the food is superb! My companions and I made absolute pigs of ourselves and had almost everything on the menu. The only items that didn't have us waxing lyrically were the spinach and the chicken dishes - but only because everything else was so great. Best of all, this place treats vegetarians as equals with their omnivore counterparts. The vegetable dishes are just as good (if not better) than the meat ones. Definitely a winner!
Extremely delicious Afghan food. The (vegetarian) mantu are the most scrumptious dumplings. I love Afghan food for allowing me to finally smother dumplings in red sauce and yoghurt. I feel like I've always wanted to do that in my heart of hearts, but feared the world. I now fear nothing dumpling related.
Also the Kabuli Palaw is bang on.
Very delicious food and not too expensive! This is a great place to go for a small group of friends. We were a group of four. We ordered two entrees, four drinks, three mains and a plate of rice, and then passed the plates around and shared everything between us, which is the best way to go. Split four ways it ended up being around $32 each, which is nowhere near as expensive as we thought it would be. The food was delicious, particularly the lamb and the chicken. There are also some tasty vegetarian dishes. The restaurant is small and cozy and the service is good. You don't have to wait too long for your dinner. I would definitely recommend this place!
Simple, straightforward, perfect.. We have been to Parwana three times...the first two were near misses as we were almost turned away but saved by the old man at the last minute!
Downside: Bookings are essential, take cash, take BYO and its not just around the corner from home.
Upside: Everything else about it.
Fantastic service, amazing food, great value for money. This place is amazing. It's Adelaide's little secret. I love everything about this place. If you haven't eaten you absolutely must.
Awesome. My husband hasn't shut up about the mantu. Generous, delicious food and friendly, sensible, non-fawning service. I am not sure how you can give this place a bad or even mediocre review, it's fantastic.
This place is a gem!. Can't say enough good things about this little place. First time trying Afghan food, won't be the last. You can consider this your motto too after coming here!
Entree:
Pekowrah - Amazing fritters similar to Indian pakoras but with altogether different spices and flavours...served with their signature chutney. 5 Stars
Mains:
Narenj Palaw: An amazing long grain rice accompaniment with candied orange peel, almonds and pistacchios. 5 stars
Gosfandeh Degee: A beautiful marinated lamb dish served with salad, their version of naan bread, and again their signature chutney. 4.5 Stars (a couple of the lamb pieces (maybe 10%) were a bit dry but still tender and flavoursome)
Dessert:
As if we weren't already super-impressed with our entree and mains, our chosen dessert - Seb Morabah - was just to die for. I cannot recommend this enough just purely for you to experience such a wonderful combination of new flavours. It's candied apple preserve and Cardamom and Pistacchio Ice-cream....We chose to share one dessert....I tell you..that was a mistake...By the end I wanted my own, as did my better half. 5 stars.
Service: Fantastic. 5 stars
Decor: Simple yet colourful, Seemingly cultural, Homely (Family photos), Welcoming. 5 stars.
Try something different, come here and enjoy.. Very homey, very good food. It is always nice to be try different food, I would definitely come here again.
GF Friendly at Parwana!. If, like me, you need to eat Gluten free, then check out this great restaurant! They not only catered for me, but I got to join in the banquet with everyone else!!! Yay! Great food which is 'shared around' in Afghan style! I was part of a large group of 24, but the owner made special effort to make me feel comfortable, and quietly reassured me what I could eat safely and provided alternative food for the few I couldn't. Awesome service!!! We all loved this place and will go again!
Fantastic. This was my first experience eating Afghani cuisine, but I can assure you it won't be the last! Every single dish was magnificent. I love the 'family' feel of the restaurant and the staff were so welcoming and helpful. I will definitely be back again.
Omg everything is delicious - so Many flavours. The eggplant and the lamb quorma, plus the rice
Delicious. Very nice food, eggplant dish my favourite... dessert spiced apple with cardamon ice cream all very nice. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Definitely be back very soon.
Yum. Love this place, it's like greek and Indian food combined. Great flavours, huge serves. Try the eggplant and the dumplings.
We'll be back !. We had a fabulous time at Parwana last saturday evening - the staff were very helpful and kind and the food.. well it hit the spot. Everything we had on the menu was tasty, plentiful and just generally delicious.
Hidden Gem. Parwana, What a restaurant!!
Best eggplant, lentils & steamed dumplings ever! Thank you!
Pretty good food although choices are fairly limited. Rice at $17 I thought was abit pricey. But I liked their chicken dishes, both the entree and mains. They were tasty and portions were decent. Service was pretty quick and friendly. Recommended, but maybe order roti instead of the rice.
Amazing & very tasty! Huge ticks all round!
My third visit and still love it. The menus vary depending on which night of the week you go. Very busy but food came out quickly once ordered. Corkage is cheap. Only accept cash. Portion sizes are good. My favourite is still the eggplant dish! We will be back.
Nice Food. The food was nice and the service was also good. We enjoyed our meals with friends and will come again.
Good sevice, friendly staff, lovely food... eggplant side dish was amazing, and the dumplings were nice. Will definitely be going back, a lovely place to stumble across.
AMAZINGGG. I've been here about 5 times, and my parents go here regularly- each fortnight. The food is delicious (especially the eggplant dish) and the decor is fantastic. Friendly staff, quick service and lovely atmosphere.
Will keep going back!
Just amazing food .lovely service . Good pricing .very happy and will tell everyone to try it . Just how I love to eat .clean ,tasty, fresh ,spicy
A great dining option with an even greater history. This is the kind of place we wish we came with more people to try more dishes because everything we tried was so different from the next. The highlight was the yogurt marinated chicken. A soft and juicy delight which when accompanied by the sauce was tantalising and oh so satisfying. We purchased the cool book to take home to melbourne because without coming here often I will truly miss what we ate at Parwarna. The eggplant was another highlight and I’d truly become vegetarian if every veggie curry tasted this good!
Delicious Afghan cuisine!! Try their Eggplant and Karayee Morgh. Desserts are simply amazing.
Lovely food. Eggplant dish was superb. Dumplings great. Lamb was bit tough and bland. Original and welcoming decor. Service was lacking- young and disinterested waiters. Did not know details of the dishes offered. Young man informed us coffee was not on menu due to Afghani religion! I dont think so 🙄
What an amazing place to have great food.
Really enjoyed my visit. The food was yummy and the service great.
It's BYO and I love the corkage goes to charity.
So many great vegetarian options.
The aubergine dish is gorgeous!
A long-standing Adelaide classic and staple among the Afghan cuisine community. Menu has remained the same for many years with people continually returning (and us in particular) for the dumplings, lamb and rice. We had the 6pm Sunday dinner time slot and within half an hour all tables had seatings so it would be wise to book ahead. There’s parking on Henley Beach Road and street parking on Northcote and Danby Street.
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. I just cant fault this place. They have a great selection of vegetarian food. I’d strongly going as a group so you can try all the things.
Absolutely incredible food! The banquet, wow, a brilliant way to taste a range of dishes. Great service, not licenced but from other tables it looked like you can BYO. Not sure if there is a corkage fee. Astounding, will be back
