Serving quite good Indian Food but the prices are a bit on a higher side and is mostly above the prices of most of the Indian restaurants. I suggest them to lower their prices a bit. The Food tastes amazing.
Unexpectedly good indian food! I think their best dishes are the spinach lamb and dhal! Especially their dhal. One of the best dhal's I've had in a long long time. If you dine in, they can get slow if their busy.
Festival of Food (FOF) is kicking off in May 2018! Watch out for the brochure invitations in your mail box as they will start to arrive soon. The app is already available. You can search your app store to access the app now. Previously I have always tried to take advantage of the offers in FOF, simply because of the reasonable price and the variety of dishes we can try. Yesterday, Tina and I started our first adventure this year, British Raj.
We had the garlic naan, tandoor chicken tikka masala, malai kofta and saffron rice. Everything was delicious, generous portions (especially the tikka masala!) and service was prompt and friendly.
Being a local here, i come here every few months. I admit i haven't been to too many other Indian places as i always end up knowing the food i am going to be served! Great service for eating in and/or take away, so friendly and efficient. Butter Chicken; you cannot go wrong along with a side of Paneer Manchurian for some spice in your life. Amazing!
Hands down the spot for authentic Indian food in Mile End. Every single curry on the menu has been a smash hit. Personal favourite is the Daal & Veg Korma. Traditional Indian decor that matches the quality of food. 9/10
Hot Tip - Meal for one special @ $20
Extra point for large servings and fresh ingredients.
Came to British Raj with a group of friends. Staff were attentive and very friendly. They helped us decide what to order from their extensive menu, and I must say that everything we had was so flavoursome. I would definitely recommend this place if you're willing to travel for some decent Indian dishes.
Whether we eat in or take away the food is always fantastic. Service is friendly and welcoming. Gone through the entire menu and always have to grab the butter chicken. Cant stay away from it.
I first discovered this little gem through the 'Festival of Food' many moons ago. My aunty and uncle speaks highly of this place and regularly frequents it. Regardless, I was overdue for a visit. Before you even enter the establishment, the delectable smells wafting out into the carpark would stir any palate.
In need of a renovation, one would be forgiven to conclude not to expect too much from this restaurant. It is rather drabby and the terrible lighting does not help. However, the staff are friendly, courteous and loyal. I recognise one of the staff from my first time here. Always a good sign of staff retention ability when you see a familiar face.
Water was offered and poured upon seating. Menus distributed, we quickly made our selections. Entrees arrived in the form of pakoras, chicken tikka and fried mushrooms. All was lovely, except for the mushrooms. I didn't rate it, because it was rather beige and boring. Still, the portion was generous.
Continuing our sharing is caring philosophy, our mains consisted of the prawns masala, butter chicken, aloo gobi and beef vindaloo, accompanied by safron rice, steam rice and naan bread. Every main was delicious, although the vindaloo is considered extremely hot to most, so diners beware. Only order it if you can handle the heat. I'm a massive capsaicin fan, however, I found it a little too warm, which can ruin your dinner if that was your only chosen main.
Note the memorabilia and famous signatures decorating the space. It is a good place to eat, will definitely return in the New Year with friends in tow.
The nicest Indian food we've eaten in a long time! Great, friendly service. Decent wine list. Really tasty and flavoursome dishes w nice cuts of meat. We planned on heading to Parwana for dinner but it was booked out. We settled for here and were so happy we did. Will recommend to friends and will return.
Nicely Spiced/ kid friendly curries. Been here a couple of times now...both in the restaurant and also take-away. The flavours are great. British Raj aren't too full-on with their hotness which suits us because we have two young boys. They really enjoy the butter chicken. I dig the beef vindaloo.
I went here withlow expectations simply because of the name. This place absolutely blew me away. The curries were well made with authentic ingredients (pieces of shredded ginger, cardamon pods, curry leaves, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks etc could all be seen in the dishes) and not premade from some paste mixed with cream/yoghurt/flour like most curries are. I would rate this in my top 10 in Adelaide for sure, possibly top 5. Prices are reasonable for the serves you get. Service was friendly and it took 30min for the meals to arrive. The kashmiri rice is to die for.
Great service and best Indian food! Great value aswell.
Best Indian food in Adelaide. Authentic flavours and plenty of substance unlike the generic sauce and few bites of meat you'll find at some other locals. A regular for takeaway. Worth phoning in advance as wait when busy can be 40-60 minutes but not an issue if you're prepared. Phone service can be a little abrupt but always friendly in-person. Big fans of the hot beef vindaloo, chicken tikka masala special, and mixed vegetable korma. Definitely recommend.
The best Indian I have had outside of India!!We have been there twice in two weeks. The samosas are amazing as is the rest of the food and service.Thank you!
Yum. Ordered the meal for 2 over the phone, incredible value at $33 for 2 mains, a veg dish, large rice, 2 naan and papadams! We ordered 2 butter chicken and saag paneer which were absolutely delicious! So fresh and the chicken was creamy and so moreish. Had to wait a while but well worth it, just be sure to order on the phone in advance. Will be back to try the rest on the menu!
Visited as part of the Festival of Food offer and loved it, this is the closest we have found to proper British style Indian food in Adelaide. Great food and service, will definitely visit again!
Delicious Food. Excellent!!!!!!! Highly recommend Food is magnificent...
Fantastic. Have been to British Raj several times and love it. The food is full of flavour and obviously fresh, the staff are lovely. We love the tandoori dishes and the butter chicken. The vegetarian dishes are varied and delicious. We have 4 children and they enjoy all of the dishes.

Best Inidan restaurant hands down. Food is unbelievable. When you say hot, they make it hot. Great staff, always friendly and love to chat to repeat customers. Jag is awesome - just need to get to know him.
When I don't go there, I get it delivered.
Ambiance is great, head chef and boss is a sweet guy that is very accommodating. All the positives you would want from a restaurant apply here.
115/10 - LOVE BRITISH RAJ. Please don't ever change
New Favourite!. My wife and I recently dined at the British Raj for her birthday. The restaurant was fully booked for a function which created great atmosphere yet they still made room for us (we had made a booking). Whilst we were disappointed our first two choices were not available from their wine list, the selections meant we were happy with our third choice. The food was exquisite! Sheekh Kebabs, Mushroom Pakoras, Garlic & Cheese Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Goat Curry, Mango Chutney, Eggplant Raita, Saffron Rice and the Chilli/Mint side sauce were all well balanced in spice, warmth and flavours quite distinguishable from one dish to another. Portion sizes were good for the dollar compared to a lot of Indian restaurants we have been to of late (who all seem to think they can drop portion size and up the cost at the same time). The lass serving us and the host, Sumar, were quite attentive and explained the dishes and preparation techniques thoroughly. We were definitely impressed and will certainly be back. The fact the Indian and Sri Lankan cricket teams dine here when in town adds certain weight to the authenticity of the food!!
Unbelievable Food/Not the nicest serving staff. Little gay guy on the front desk is just a tad too rude for my liking.
Puts us off going there again.
Best Butter Chicken In Adelaide. Recently i have been to this place for dinner with some of my friends the food, service and the ambiance were fantastic. We first gave order for chicken tikka and pakora which are savoury especially the chicken tikka was cooked to a perfect point as i like. Then for the mains we got Butter chicken, goat curry(which was tender and perfectly spiced) with saffron rice(the aroma from the rice is incredible) and garlic naan. The butter chicken was amazing and the sauce is of right consistency.Butter chicken being my favorite dish i am happy that i finally found a best place for it in Adelaide. At the end we finished our dinner with Mango kulfi not to forget about the friendly and fast service that goes along with the best food here.
Good. Really enjoyed our food at British Raj. Tried lots of different dishes, if I was to be picky I would say that the naan could have been better slightly fluffier and more flavour in the garlic naan. Service was attentive. Will definitely return.
have been back and love it...worry about the wine list with 2 choices not available... just reprint the list, guys! must haves saag paneer, chicken tikka! watch out for that vindaoo, though, woooo!
Always great food, dine in or takeaway
Voucher discovery. Really happy we had a Festival of Food voucher to stamp for this restaurant, a new favourite for Indian... the goat tenderloin and fish curries were perfect, and best pakoras ever. We were full and still could not stop eating. Beautiful sauces- can't wait to return.
Tasty indian. I live in Mile End, so British Raj is only 5 minutes away but so are many other indian restaurants. This one leaves them all in the dust. It is a fantastic eating experience. Delicious flavours, well balanced, a true suburban treasure. The goat curry is my absolute favourite.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good service. The food was fresh and very tasty and delicious. The servings were well presented and generous. A pleasant experience.
Great Value!. We ordered take away on Valentine's Day- the Meal for 2 with Lamb Rogan Josh, Beef Vindaloo, and Alu Gohbi. The wait was exactly as I was told over the phone (25mins), service was very friendly, the price can't be beat, and the vindaloo was actually hot for once (can't say the same for the other Indian eateries I've been to in Adelaide). Will definatley be going back for more!
Best Indian. The cuisine at British Raj is amongst the best Indian in SA . Suman is a sensational host , and makes you feel great just stepping into his Restaurant . Of course , Suman does have the great heritage of the Raj on Taj restaurants behind him .
Since the opening of British Raj Restaurant several months ago this phenomenal restaurant has become my preferred choice for Indian cuisine in Adelaide.
I have received exemplary customer service upon every visit with every team member contributing to the wonderful experience.
The waiting staff go beyond order taking and engage the customer in a culinary experience where they can guide menu choices based on preference and individual likes.
And of course the food is of a standard that far exceeds the price. I have tried many of the dishes due to my frequent visits and have never been disappointed.
The portions, and quality have always been generous just as the British Raj team is eager to please and provide a dinner or lunch fit for the maharaja.
Fantastic. I live nearby the restaurant and since it opened I have become a regular customer to the point the staff greet me by name and we often talk about our favourite dishes.
The menu is excellent as is the quality/quantity of the food and believe me I am trying very hard to work my way through the menu and I have not been dissapointed with any of the dishes.
When you go(and you will return) try the house special rice it is absoloutely magnificent (can you you guess where I will be eating tonight)
A Most Fantastic Feast!. We visited British Raj with family visiting from England, and It was a true feast! The menu is extensive and contains some really mind-blowing Indian dishes, all finished perfectly - some were really creamy and some were really rich, the goat curry will melt in your mouth, every single dish we tried was packed full of flavour and still makes my mouth water now, just thinking about it.
They also had some of the largest samosas and tastiest Indian entree's on the menu. All served and delivered in perfect style by a really friendly and happy team, British Raj - a definite winner!!
Best eggplant dish. I went to Brittish Raj with a girlfriend and we ordered a serve of the Alu Baigan Eggplant. It was the best eggplant dish I have ever had! We also got the Tandoori Chicken Tikka Masala which was equally as delecious.
I would reccomend this place to everyone, it had great food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
I've long been a devotee of Indian food. Tried British Raj for the first time this weekend, and so glad I gave it a shot. The flavour hits you from the first mouthful. It's obviously a well-run establishment with exceptional chefs. Can't wait to eat from here again 😊
Was very surprised with the food here. Was amazing and great taste and the size of the meals are much bigger then other India Restaurants. Make sure you book first if there is a show near by might be hard to get a table at short notice.
Loved the service by Fateh and Ayush (manager). I can't read so they were kind enough to go through the menu and describe the delicious Indian food they have. The flavors were melting in my mouth. Oh Lord,. BEST INDIAN FOOD!
I have been Working in Adelaide on business for the last three months and Visited this fine restaurant many times.
I can highly recommend the goat Biriyani a chefs special And chicken tikka masala Really great flavours fresh ginger and spices.
The staff are very kind and attentive plus the meal sizes are of generous proportions and well priced.
5 out of 5
