Review A Touch Of Salt - Townsville

Sylvia Ang
Totally in love with their food, had visited a few times over the last year and each experience is fantastic. Service was good, food were on point for its freshness, creativity, combinations of flavours used in all the given ingredients. Found a chef who we came across long ago in another restaurant and happy that he is in this place serving awesome food, atmosphere is great, tables are well spaced apart for adequate privacy. Would be looking forward for my next dining experience with them!

Great food, decent wine menu, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly service. I didn't feel like cooking dinner tonight. Was an early walk-in & didn't have a problem getting a table to myself. I'll definitely come back, and make it my local fancy go-to.

I was there with my husband to celebrate my birthday. The food had a good taste and beautifully arranged. The staff was effecient and helpful during ordering a food. Unfortunately, I could not enjoy the quiet relaxed athmosphere as it was disturbed by a loud company few metres away... They ruined the evening for all of other guests too, as I observed few couples simply left the restaurant after exposure to uncontrolled gomeric laugh from that company! Sadly, waitresses or managers were ignoring the fact that not anyone need a disturbance while they dine in a costly place! I gave to Touch of Salt a 3 stars because of lack of human touch.. and inability to control the situation.

Taste bud heaven with the flavour combinations. A wonderful experience. Customer service 10/10. Delicious food & desert 10/10.

Quite a popular place and stylish. But the food was superb. I ordered a lamb dish (roasted lamb, sweet potatoes, salt bush takda, wild rice and makhani sauce) and a blood orange cocktail. The flavour was amazing. The lamb slices were slightly crispy on the outside and soft inside with a thin layer of fat to bring out the flavour of the lamb superbly.

Absolutely wonderful. The food was amazing, the staff were fantastic, and the cocktail menu is great. It was the perfect place to celebrate.

I really don't understand why this place has so many 5 star reviews... Went here for a family birthday dinner and it was embarrassingly disappointing. Firstly, the food came out 80 minutes after ordering. By the time we ate dessert I was pretty much ready to sleep. Many other tables who had ordered after us got their food first, and when we finally did get our food all of our dishes were cold. The portions were tiny and the only dish that gave a "wow" factor was the koji eggplant, nonetheless it was finished in one bite. I can't believe we got 3 pieces of their jerk cauliflower for 15 dollars. The dumplings were yummy but the sauce was overpowering. Wish they had more substantial vegan options that weren't just vegetables (where are the potatoes, rice, tofu, beans, tempeh?) as I was starving even after dessert. The service was strange and it felt like we were being treated lesser than the other diners. Anywho, the only reason I'm not giving them 1 star is because the dessert was amazing. We got their green apple pave which was light and fluffy and warm with a lovely crunchy caramel and vanilla ice cream. Still tiny but very good. Not to mention the day after both my partner and I had upset stomaches and felt bloated which rarely happens to us, so not sure if it was 100% plant based or just cooked with lots of oil. Will not come back ever and do not recommend.

Great service. These people are hired because they do their stuff well. The food was exquisite. Wine over priced but every restaurant in townsville does this.

We attended a Vegan 4 course dinner night in Jan 2018. The food menu was creative, well presented and full of harmonic combined flavours. I really liked the main course and desert. Service was very attentive and friendly hence it was busy. Atmosphere is relaxed but a little noisey. The waiting periods in between courses were a bit long for my liking and could be filled with small things on the table to snack on. Also a greeting from the kitchen upon arrival/seating would be a nice addition and surprise. Overall my best dining experience in Townsville so far, keep up developing fine dining in NQ guys.

I attended my daughter's wedding there on Friday the 22nd of June and I would like to say how exceptional the service and food was. The staff and owners should be congratulated. A special mention to the staff on the night - Henry Colin Mathew (restaurant) Mathew (floor) and Ben. Well done. Thoroughly recommended cheers.

Friendly service, food is above average but nothing spectacular. Not too many upper market place to eat in Townsville so this is considered one of them.

Stopped here on a work trip from Sydney and found the place to be delightful. Opens out onto the river with lovely views of the sunset and perfect weather in July.

All the staff were just lovely. Friendly, helpful, warm and attentive.

Food was very good! The gyoza was deliciously spicy. The fried duck was unusual but good - meat could have used a tad more seasoning. I had the lamb as a main and it was delicious with lovely side sauces condiments. The smoky outside lamb bacon was particularly delicious - though again meat could have had a tad more seasoning. Oh and the side of Carrots and pumpkin was sensational - the yogurt and crunchy nuts on the bottom giving the dish a great boost!

All in all a great dinner - was very very satisfied! Would come again the next time I’m in town.

We visited A Touch of Salt for my sisters graduation dinner.
Meals are slightly smaller and quite pricey, however absolutely beautifully presented and delicious. In saying that, none of our party left hungry and everything was just enough.
We were greeted with great enthusiasm at the door and taken straight to our table. Service throughout the night could not be faulted.
The wine and cocktail list was fantastic, although again, quite pricey.
Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options are available.
Over all I would rate A Touch of Salt as one of the nicest restaurants in Townsville for a special occasion.

Their number one ranking in Townsville is well deserved. I had the Entree sized pasta with fresh greens which left room for the bread pudding. Absolutely fantastic, as was the service.

Visited Townsville for work and heard good things about this place. We had three entrees to share. The chilli squid was overdone. The salmon gnocchi was okay, not a standout - their version of gnocchi was not to my liking - more like a potato disc, didn't resemble gnocchi at all. The best dish was the Moreton bay bug, but unfortunately it lacked seasoning. Average food overall, but attentive service.

the place was cozy. we didn't have a reservation but was lucky to get a table- on a weeknight. the food didn't stand out. we also had to wait for almost an hour from the entree to main. it was true to it's name, a touch of salt. everything was bland.

Excellent fine eating right by the water. I had a delicious steak and some oysters. Very impressed with Townsville dining standards. Attentive service.

Celebrated my Dad's 76th birthday on a weeknight. Not only was the food incredible and the wine well matched, but we were very well looked after by the lovely, professional, knowledgeable and friendly Kiera and Mark . From such a simple yet heartwarming touch when every one of the staff that interacted with us wished Dad a Happy Birthday to the immaculate timing of all the courses and wines being brought out not too early and not too late... just another example how effortlessly nice a dining experience can be.
And as a bonus, my traditionally meat eating parents were absolutely blown away with how delicious all the vegan dishes were.

Thank you for making our night yesterday a celebration to remember and talk about for years to come. Highly recommended!

Lovely menu, variety and quality of food was enjoyed by the six of us last evening. We chose a selection of entrees to share and a main course each . Everyone was very happy with the food presented and again the variety of menu options was terrific. We will be back. Townsville council has a great location on the banks of Ross creek that they need to further develop into what could be world class

It took well over an hour for mains to arrive & less than half the restaurant was filled...
I ordered the reef fish & was sadly disappointed with over-cooked vegetables, & far too much salt in the seasoning. Given the $34 price-tag I was underwhelmed.
The wait staff did make an effort to provide a good service, but walked past us at the door at least 3 times without acknowledgement when we arrived. The restaurant looks the part but has a lot of work to do.

Have been here a few times now and have been consistently disappointed. The meals are not terrible, however they are small and over priced. Just doesn't live up to all the hype...

Love it. Location could be better, but excellent food, very good wine list and impeccable service. I'll continue to go back.

Delicious as always, such well prepared food by some amazing chefs!

Fine dining yes (ant sized meals). Overly priced and unable to remain competitive in a market that is more attracted to value for money.
Restaurant is hidden away near water feature and loud indigenous crowd.
Go there if you are pretentious, materialistic or just like spending too much and leaving still hungry.
Not worth my money.

Full moon, stars, live music, drinks and food. If you are visiting Townsville it is worth the visit to sit out under the trees facing the water way and have a drink. The Friday night we were dined there was live music and it was busy but not too busy that too many people where standing around spoiling the view. The service was efficient and friendly. The crab lasagne was good however the bisque was too strong and that is just my own taste. I would return to try some of the other menu items

Over-rated but delicious. I had been hearing so many good things about this restaurant since coming to Townsville so I decided to give it a go for dinner with my partner.
The staff were very attentive and it was moderately busy for a Wednesday night.
I ordered the pork belly (entre size) and he got a main of the veal and we shared a size of steamed vegies and hand cut chips.
The wait for meals was a while, but when it came my entre sized pork was plenty - although the top wasn't as crispy as I would have liked the remainder of the plate was good.
His veal was tender but the portion sized for his "main" compared to my entre sized pork was about the same.
Chips were ok - again, not as crunchy as you would hope.

Desserts were the Sticky Pineapple Pudding and the White Chocolate and Camomile Brulee. Both delicious.

Overall it was a good night with lovely food - it just didn't live up to the hype that was given out and I would probably spend my money elsewhere next time.

Wonderful. As a vegetarian I get used to mediocre food. We went for lunch on mothers day and I expected the usual edible but uninspiring dish. Can't really remember the details but it was basically strips of egg plant around a filling. I've never been a huge egg plant fan but it was absolutely delicious! My only complaint was that even after ordering the main size I could still have eaten 2!

Food very good, had the oysters (although a touch disappointing that the serving was just 3 per plate) and the risotto which was delicious. What wasn't so good was the wait to be seated (despite being on time for our booking we were left to stand at the bar for 10 minutes despite tables being available), then to have our orders taken and the longest wait at over an hour from time of order for our mains to be brought out. The manager did kindly top up our wine glasses for free as way of an apology which certainly was appreciated but didn't completely erase my disappointment as I expected better organisation from such a lauded establishment.
Despite this I would still definitely eat here again!

The food was terrific. The rib fillet was extremely tender and cooked to perfection. The service from the staff, especially ( chautee? ) was well above par. We will definately go back.

I went to a touch of salt for the first time & I have to say I was disappointed. This is because I feel if I'm to pay over $50 for food I would at least expect to go home feeling full or even satisfied would have been enough, but when u leave a resturant hungry that's my biggest turnoff. Now as someone who has worked in hospitality for many years & sees one resturant serve decent size meals & one that doesn't it makes me wonder if the owner is a little greedy, at the end of the day ur all purchasing ur produce from the same/similar companies for around the same price so why can one place me generous & the other not?? Doesn't make sense to me!!

Food, Scrumptious. Service, impeccable

Just Right. It was a while ago but all in one awesome meal I had the most delicate and pefectly cooked scallops of my life, followed by a generous serve of one of the best apple pies I have ever eaten. The pastry was astonishingly good - I have never had anything like it.

Waiting to return to the friendly staff, good wine list and great location - and try the current menu.

The food is fantastic, service is excellent and drinks are cold. Definitely the best restaurant in town.

This is one of the best restaurants in town. Great food and very personal service.
