Best sashimi platter I have ever had. You could tell that their seafood wad very fresh. Everything they did was delicious. Prices are reasonable too.

It was such a great experience at Sakana. We were served by Josh who is very kind and patient. The food is super yummy. The environment is so enjoyable. I will definitely try to come again with friends.

2wine, entree, main dish. It was a pretty good dinner but the bar next to this shop was too noisy. We could not enjoy the day.

We were nearby and desperate for dinner and very happy to find this Japanese restaurant. The menu is varied with a mix of traditional Japanese dishes and many with a Westernised slant. Very good range of sake, even a few high quality ones.

Josh has looked after me everytime (returning customer) I love a spicy ramen and Josh accomidates me everytime even tho its not on the menu. I'm given chilli powder and oil to satisfy my cravings. Would recommend 10/10 always enjoy eating this ramen :D

Recently had dinner here two nights ago, as well as lunch today, with both times being very good! Last time I was here was 2018 so wanted to try again with family! There was a bit of a wait for the food for the dinner meal however the staff were very apologetic and explained that it was their first time opening post-Chirstmas and New Years break, hence the busy schedule and re-adjustment of the menu options (I believe their menu rotates seasonally). The service for lunch today was much faster! Slightly disappointed however as I am unsure if it was because of junior staff or because of the rush but we requested for soy sauce, but were not provided a dipping sauce dish/tray. The Agedashi Tofu was my go-to years ago, and it still fails to disappoint today! Would highly recommend as it's light and refreshing! Their sets were very good (had the Sakana and Medium Sets), with it being much more value for money compared to the individual prices of choosing individual menu items. I highly recommend their sashimis as they are very good, but I would probably avert from the rolls as they were good but not particularly noteworthy. The Nigiris were quite good, especially the Unagi Nigiri (albeit on the more expensive side) All-in-all a good competitor and alternative in Townsville to GYO down the road, and leaps and bounds better than what you get from Wara or other sushi places in Townsville.

My partner and I were already big fans of this restaurant and finally got a chance to re-visit after their upgrades, to not only the shop but the menu as well. They somehow managed to make this venue even better than it was before! Everything to the interior and music, to the drinks and food- was unreal. Amazing food, exceptional service. Thanks again for an awesome experience guys!

The food was amazing, who would have thought the best best tofu agadashi ever, the dumplings were so light and freshest ingredients. Bento box special was one of the best my husband has had. Staff attentive and friendly. Whilst not the cheapest we have had, would certainly go there again.

Thank you to the chefs for serving me my favourite chicken curry even though it wasn't on today's Sunday Brunch menu.

Right in the middle of downtown Townsville is Sakana. Good Japanese food and drinks within a Japanese cool atmosphere.

Outstanding hospitality. All the staff were extremely accommodating when we requested to order and eat swiftly in order to make it to our next event on time. Nothing was too much trouble. And of course, the food was sensational! Will definitely return.

If you love Japanese cuisine, like being fussed over by attentive staff, enjoy a quiet night out with your best mate or are just looking for a place to eat that's truly special then you can't go past Sakana. Every dish was delicious, fresh and tasty and delivered to the table with a smile. Located in Flinders Street, it's easy to get to from any part of Townsville. Parking is right out the front if you get there early enough (it opens at 6pm). Thank you Sakana for a wonderful night out!

Well done. I had lunch there a few weeks ago for the first time and it was great. Had dinner there last night and it was great again. Being consistent is excellent: Great service, people, location, food and food presentation. I highly recommend Sakana.

Disinterested & unhelpful server despite the restaurant not being busy. Nigiri platter was good. Curry was decent, but needed more veggies in it. Cool decor! (3.5/5)

The service was great and the restaurant was relatively empty (we did go on a Thursday night though). The sushi was great - the $10 sushi special was definitely worth it! We also got an agedashi tofu (entree) which was light and the tempura noodle soup which was quite standard (nothing special).

More than what we expected. We got the large sashimi. Generous sashimi serving sizes - each piece was about 2-3 times the size of usual sashimi piece. 20 pieces for about $36, well presented. Bento box was on special for a Wednesday night, $15. They only had one option though and it was a small serving size - 3 small chicken wings, 2 prawn nigiri, small amount of seaweed salad, edamame beans and a handful of rice. Would probably go back for the sashimi itself.

After traipsing around Townsville, we were initially resigned when we returned to our lodgings. However, after our dinner, we were actually quite delighted with what is probably one of the very few Asian offerings and one of the few good restaurants in the area.

We ordered mains, in addition to sushi and sashimi. On the whole, mains tend to be pretty dear (or more dear than other things at Sakana or at Japanese restaurants). However, we thought that the quality and relatively generous serving size of the curry made it a stand-out among the otherwise a bit underwhelming non-sushi mains. As for sushis and sashimi, we were impressed with what we were getting. We would be remiss in not recommending anything but the fresh, comparably more authentic sushi, without anything masking the taste and smell of fish.

Service was excellent and ambience was pleasant and quiet without being too quiet, with patrons with a touch of class, reminding us of home (or at least some of the better parts of home). However, we noted that some patrons simply do not know how to hold wine glasses or eat civilly, though.

Would recommend if you're out and about in Townsville and looking for a nice restaurant, for food or for a nice place to have anything from a casual dinner to a semi-formal dinner.

Food was equivalent to what you get in Japan. Well presented. Good choice of beers. Decor was fairly new and clientele was not bogan. Recommend the platters.
