Review The Palm House - Townsville

We paid $56 for breakfast for my hubby and I, and both are extremely disappointed in the quality of food, we arrived at 7am with table booking, they start breakfast at 6.30am. The fruits that were out were clearly not fresh and only watermelon and rock melon out. The pancakes were like rubber. The only nice thing was the toast bar. So dont waste your money on this place!!

Super rude customer service and bland flavourless food. Staff acted as if it was a privilege to let me dine in, instead of a transaction. Horrible staff and unclean tables. They talk to you like you are less than. Funnily enough my Caucasian partner didn’t get the same sort of service. Again, tables not wiped down definitely violating COVID-19 standards especially given that we went on a busy night. The shared cutlery had bits of disgusting droplets from other people’s plates especially the spoons used to drop in sauces. It’s honestly disgusting. To top it all off they violated alcohol laws by supplying us with alcohol without seeing valid ID. Upon entrance they ask for photo ID. Me and my partner presented with valid identification as per Australian Law. However, my underaged sister ordered a Bloody Mary assuming they were all virgin drinks given that the menu was for the table but ended up being alcoholic and resulted in her consuming alcohol. They then came around and threatened to kick us out for their mistake. I’m honestly never coming back to this place again. I highly recommend that you avoid this place and I can honestly recommend many other buffet style restaurants in Townsville that are much much better than The Palm House.

Dont get me wrong, the food was great however the service was what did it for me. The service was terrible.. Waiting ages to get drink service and longer to get the simple drinks ordered. Very dissatisfied with the service. However if fixed they would get 5 stars as the food itself was fantastic, only let down by the staff.

Not impressed, seafood was bland, small selection of salads and no veg. Coffee was horrible. Chairs were falling apart and unsteady. Wait staff could barely understand English and argued with more than a few customers over the bill.

Blaze was so lovely and welcoming when I came in for dinner tonight. He made it a great experience and I would come back again just for Blaze’s service.

Service is extremely poor at the Quaterdeck - no water brought to the table even when 2 staff were asked. Was told there was a 45 minute wait for food but no mention of drinks. After waiting 50 minutes I went to ask staff how long left on the wait and was told that drinks would be 10 mins and food 5 mins. To have ordered a juice that had to be poured over ice and as a result have to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes is extremely poor. When the food arrived it was cold and had obviously been sitting there for a while. The restaurant was no where near full capacity and most patrons were extremely annoyed and frustrated at the wait and as leaving there were at least 10 disgruntled customers who had waited over an hour for food. More staff need to be employed to cope with patrons otherwise there will continue to be a decline in patrons .. I definitely will not be coming back which is a shame as there is such a great view but the kitchen and employees are no where near adequate to be running the restaurant.

The quarterdeck has the most beautiful back drop as a new restaurant and bar for Townsville. I have been a number of times giving it hope that it has just been having teething issues since opening. Appears not. The service from bar staff is disappointing. Have asked for a number of common cocktails and it feels no training has been given to the new staff to the industry. The plate presentation is like it just got tossed onto the plate from the pan and the wait time for food and drinks is too long. Hopefully with age the place becomes better.

Love the Quarter Deck and the view. We had my mother in laws 70th party there last night and everything was excellent. We booked 6 rooms for family to Stay over and the only thing we where disappointed with was checkout at 10am and Quarter Deck stops serving breakfast/food at 10am. (For an hour) We had planned family breakfast before everyone left. (Didn’t have time to wait around until 11) We where told you can go into spin cafe, but we had our daughter with us, and kids aren’t allowed. I Can’t understand from a business point of view, why you would stop serving food on a Sunday, upon checkout time as this an ideal time for guests to have food before leaving.
