Review Tin Hoi - Tullamarine

Sonny de Castro
It's been a long time since we have ordered our favourite, combination chow mein with special noodles, special fried rice and lemon chicken. The tastes have not changed. They were delicious! When we want chow mein, we don't mind driving from Point Cook to Tullamarine. It is more than worth it. Five star rating for the food.

Just ok, service was abit off hand. Best dish was the prawns or black bean beef. Honey chicken is watered down, lemon chicken is fake sauce. (And super thick batter fried). Pick something more traditional on the menu to get something a bit better.

Just as bad as all the reviews say. But I knew this going in so I can’t be mad. Service is uncomfortably rude from that woman. We ended up leaving mid meal. The younger gentleman was nice and tried to smooth it over but I was already annoyed. I told them to put a sign on the FRONT door if they don’t accept card under $50 so that I can make that decision before I go in (as a traveller I don’t have cash, plus it’s almost 2020, everyone uses card. They’re just being cheap and don’t want to pay the fees for the machine - Horrible business model). Came to noodle hut a few doors down - amazing. Wish we saw this place first!

Perfectly cooked crunchy fried dumplings & stirfried chinese broccoli in garlic 👌🏼 Great to see there's a few more friendly staff to help! 😊👌🏼 I'd definitely come more often if I could pay by card under $50.

Poor customer service and quite rude.Their special fried rice is good and other dishes ok.I find it ridiculous that they make us pay cash for orders under $50- and even when order is over $50 they sometimes say the eftpos not working.

Like going back in time the decor takes you back, the food is definitely amazing!! I have been coming here for two years and the food is consistently good. This place is a hit with the locals so be prepared for possible waits if it happens to be a busy night. But waits are not unreasonable at all.

The spring roll was saturated in cheap highly used oil. I asked for water, and they brought me a small glass with ambient tap water. The table, tablecloth, floor, chairs feels greasy, old and dirty. The cutlery has been heavily used. The pork and vegetables did not have an taste, far for any Chinese food I ever had, either in China or Australia. Plain. You do not see the "No CARD payments under 50 AUD" until you go to the register. As I did not have any cash, they ask me to pay an extra 3 AUD for the EFTPOS fee... Their English is even worse than mine, when added to a rude unashamed attitude, the result is indigestion for the rest of the day..

Love the food especially the vegetables. Prices have increased a lot and customer service can improve. The place is old can do with improvement, there are no toilets if your waiting a while for take away or eating in you have to go elsewhere.

Worst chinese food we have ever had...ever! We ordered takeaway and were told it would be ready in 5 minutes, should have been the warning sign. It was literally ready in 5 minutes. The special fried rice tasted like 3 day old leftovers, it honestly did. There was clumps of hard rice stuck together, and the meat was chewy and hard inside, it was very clear they had just reheated leftovers, disgusting. The sesame prawn toast was burnt but probably still the most edible part of the meal. You could tell the vegetables in the black bean beef were old or reheated as they were extremely over cooked for 5 minute stir fried veg. Disappointing! We will never go back!!! Would prefer not not give a star if that was an option.

Its an okay place for food. Nothing to rave about. Service is prompt but minus any of the niceties one may expect. They accept cash only, especially if your order is under $50. While its not the best experience, its okay for a lunchtime meal.

Dropped by for a meal en route to the airport. Big portions of meat and veggies. We ordered two different dishes but they tasted quite similar.

I felt compelled to portray the real picture of this establishment. A lot of naysayers would have something critical to say about Tin Hoi; I however, think this restaurant is a comfortable and nostalgic experience which anyone would know having set a single foot past the threshold. Both owners/chefs are absolutely welcoming and insisted that we stay beyond the close time. They welcomed us kindly and served us Chinese food which was well above average and expectation. The special fried rice was particularly notable given the surprising smokey flavour which went well with everything else we ordered.
So to all those looking for an honest review and wondering - how can this place be for me given its low star rating? - I say one thing: if you want a genuine, old school, classic Chinese take out meal, you will be more than satisfied by every aspect of this eatery. For all those who expect different, perhaps quality Chinese takeout in Tullamarine isn’t for you.

Terrible ordered special fried rice... which I swear was steamed rice fried with nothing added except a little egg and oil🤢 Singapore noodles were ok, won't be back....

Awful.
Food is the worst Chinese I have ever had.
Service is super slow... we waited 15 mins to order and our tea came out when we had finished our mains.

Customer service isn't great or particularly friendly, minimum eftpos is $50... I mean seriously, it's 2016, though they might not have received the memo as the premises look straight out of 1981. On the plus side, the food is excellent and reasonably priced so if you're looking for a takeaway rather than dine in, I'd recommend this place.
The restaurant is old school and outdated decor, the staff say very little and are part of the charm. Fresh and delicious food. Great lunch time meal deals. It's not 5 star in appearance but the food is.

Nothing special, not the best to dine in, not great service even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. The spring roll came with no dipping sauce which surprised me. Overall a little disappointed as I was recommended to go.

Our favourite Chinese takeaway joint. The honey chicken and mixed vegetables are always excellent, and all the usual suspects like Singapore noodles and special fried rice are good too.
