Review Shinngle Inn - Upper Mt Gravatt

We ordered a hot and cold coffee. BOTH BURNT! Also ordered a ham and cheese croissant but I don't understand how this can taste bad too? Part of the ham was still cold and it seriously tasted like they're serving us someone's forgotten lunch found in the bottom of the backpack after weeks. We couldn't finish eating the food even when we're hungry. Went for hungry jacks afterwards and it was amazing comparing to this. Coffee: burnt Presentation: non-existent Service: rude Cleanliness: your sofa area smells foul

We were at your cafe today with a group of friends, one whom had her 5 year old autistic daughter with her. The lovely lady who served us was very patient and returned offering a complementary orange juice to my friend’s daughter.. her daughter is a extremely fussy eater so it was a moment of celebration when she enjoyed the juice and the chips that I ordered for her. Thank you for your kindness.. it may have been a small gesture to you but meant a lot to us.

I went here to order a cake for my daughter. Not only does this cafe have appalling customer service but they harrass customers to sign in on the app. I was asked 3 times before I even had a chance to order at the counter! Disgusting behavior. To add to the insult the server got the order wrong. Made my day worst which is not why a person goes out to eat. I believe they may have forgotten that customers is what makes a business work. Needless to say I did not order the cake, nor will we be back.

Ordinary food, but excellent dining area with comfortable sofa, light and shadow interior. It could be a relaxing stopover while roaming a big shopping centre like Garden City.

I never leave reviews but I'm never buying coffee from here again. Scalding hot coffee so much that it burnt my tongue & inside my mouth! I was shocked by the pain & immediately took it back saying it was boiling hot to which they replied "Too hot? You want warm?" Too hot!!! Yes, boiling water is too hot to drink!! I was so upset from the pain, I left the place crying. Don't get coffee from here!

Omg I was at the centre today 3/1/2021 around 11-11.30 to see ( I can only assume) the boss or owner (Asian man Kmart level) yelling at one of his employees in fro t of all the other customers! The poor girl was obviously embarrassed he had the nerve to humiliate her in front of customers. I was absolutely DISGUSTED at this behaviour and will be making a formal complaint to centre management and even higher. This so called MAN has no business being an employer of any kind speaking to young girls Like that. I suggest NO ONE gives him any more business as I witnessed the most appalling behaviour!!!!! I use to enjoy the milkshakes here, I Ha e since deleted that review!!!! If I could give no stars I would’ve

Went there for lunch and got the special which was nice but they refused to give a hot water refill for my tea. Having already spent $40 on lunch, I wouldn’t have thought a refill was asking a lot. Cost them as well as my wife would’ve had another coffee and we would’ve had cakes.

This was at level 1 in Garden City. Rude customer service. No menu on the door but expect people to order before they sit only to tell them to move from the counter while browsing the menu. Latte wasnt good and tasted cheap. Take your money elsewhere. I'd give them zero stars if there was an option.

We visit for a hot beverage after an Indian Curry lunch. Warmly greeted by the Barista I ask for a Cafe Latte which is ready in a minute. Served hot and strong, this delicious Coffee hits the spot!

These people should learn abc of customer service before even thinking of opening a franchised store. Mostly asian staff have little grasp on English and when I asked basic question about food, they just starred at each other, like I am talking gibberish with them. Food displayed seems awfully unappetising. Then they gave me my coffee in an old used cup --- Yes, an OLD USED Cup. There are plenty of coffee shops around in GardenCity and this is definitely is the one to avoid.

We were heading to kmart and decided to grab some breakfast before shopping. On the first level there is a shingel inn outside of kmart, convenience.

Plenty of seating and it looked busy so why not. There were only 3 staff on at the time, 1 barista, 1 taking orders and 1 in the kitchen, I think understaffed it was only just past 10. All table service, as we seated ourselves and I had to get menus off another table. Our table had some coffee stains but the wife just used wipes to clean.

The menu, nothing fancy just normal cafe dishes. I went with their big breakfast, eggs benny for wife with side of chai latte and latte. we were advised there would be 10 to 15 wait on food, that was fine as it usually takes that long for food to come out.

It was well over 20 mins til we received out drinks, and they were pipping hot, could not drink them straight away. Then food 5 mins later, they looked ok the dishes. When I started eating, i think my plate was made first as the food was coldish, I asked my wife if hers was hot and replied yes. My dish was disappointing, all elements were cold, bacon was not cooked enough, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes were just just. you can't mess up making bacon and eggs right, but you can.

Only reason for the 3 is that wife enjoyed her eggs benny, not too much sauce like most places, first time she finishes a benny.

overall, disappointed

like going here because it's the fit-out from the original Edward Street Shingle Inn that so many of us who grew up in Brisbane have fond memories of, and I love old buildings. The food these days though is pretty ordinary and the service can be also. They are a franchise operation these days and some of the food (cakes etc) seems as though it's prepared centrally off-site and brought in each day.
We've only ever had lunch a few times after going to the Museum of Brisbane in the City Hall, but we have seen people having afternoon tea as well.
The booths are original and quite small, so could be a bit "squishy" if you're a larger person.
Worth going for the old world atmosphere, but not for the food as it's OK, but nothing special.

Terrible service. We ordered one half strength latte coffee - we received a full strength coffee.
We ordered 2 lemon lime & bitters & they only gave us one.
My daughter bought a steak sandwich which was good but was the first thing that came out. A bit bizzare.
I ordered a turkey & cranberry sandwich & instead of FOUR small triangles of bread, I only got TWO!!! Did they only use ONE piece of bread???
The meals did not come out at the same time.
My Mum had finished her coffee before the "meal" The Shingle Inn UPSTAIRS is much more organised & they have FOUR small triangles for their sandwiches. To top it off, as it was a public holiday, the small meal we had also had a surcharge so we spent around $46.
Will never go there again. If I go to the Shingle in at Garden City, it will only be the upstairs one. The service was disgusting downstairs.

The atmosphere is great here, so you feel like you'll be served great quality food, but honestly dont think the quality catches up to the price that the place charges. The food tastes fine, but it got me questioning whether it was really necessary to pay the price for it.

Had lunch here with my mum in April and found the service a little slow. Food was really nice though and good portions for the price. Would have loved some water brought to the table

Love their butterfly cake, pretty awesome. Great place for a quiet chat of a short break from all the shopping

The waiters are professional and polite with a touch of spunk. The food is delicious and well presented. A pleasure to dine here.

Can I just say, the breakfast there is AH MAZING. The eggs are so fluffy, like super fluffy, toast is thick, great serving of bacon. Ive been here 9 times already and dont want to go to any other place for breakfast - thats if they make scrambled eggs right. Im a total bacon eggs and toast lover and this is the place thats done it right.

Diana. I had a passable flat white here. The coffee had a decent strength & presented nicely. What I did enjoy though was the delicious lemon meringue pie which I had with the coffee.

Over priced and tastes like poo

Disgraceful Treatment. My wife went into this place with our 3 month old baby. She bought take away coffee and cake thinking the baby would be waking up any minute. The baby slept on and she decided to sit down. MISTAKE. She was promptly told by the manager to move on very curtly. This is a disgrace after she spent money there and the way she was spoken to disturbed and upset her. This place is for the dogs and we'll never be back.

We go to Westfield Garden City nearly every fortnight but never tried the coffees at Shingle Inn. We ordered Mugaccino, Toasted Chicken and Avocado Sandwich, and Club Sandwich. The gourmet sandwiches were simple but divine. You can tell their quality is s
