Review The Nielsen - Vaucluse

Had the BLT although it was already past 1130, they were still able to provide my order. Thank you very much for that 😘 And it was really good actually đŸ‘ŒđŸŒ My friend had the fish and chips and it was like $18 if I'm not mistaken. A bit pricey but they were like 4 pieces of fish? I didn't try it tho. There were seagulls and kookaburra around and, they're quite cheeky. Stealing food is their mission. So beware.

Delicious food here at a serene and beachside location. I went on a Thursday at lunch time during school season and it was so quiet, the staff weren’t even outside. No one was there except us. However, when they did, they were polite and friendly. The food was top notch, however, it was a little bit pricy. I would recommend their high tea and going at a time during the week, if possible, to avoid the potential crowd.

Service was good, snacks were okay, entrees (ordered kingfish & king parwn) were not bad, the mains we had (fish&chips and Scotch fillet) were a bit disappointed... The beef fillet did look good enough for me to take a photo, but it's too juicy to finish. Anyway, the view was great :-)

Got take away fish and chips, was good quality and great service! A little expensive but you pay for convenience in such a remote location I suppose.

Great location - that view! Quick service and good coffee at the kiosk, plus the usual snacks, cakes, fish & chips. It is what it is...

The Nielsen is a very special hidden gem! We were due to marry in this beautiful resturant, but the pandemic had changed our plans. Tatum, at The Nielsen have been nothing less than attentive, understanding & extremely polite through this pandemic! We will definitely be celebrating with The Nielsen group soon to soak up the stunning view & eat all the beautiful food!!! I am very grateful for all of your help & understanding 😊 Seriously 5 stars guys, you deserve it!⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐

Truly sad to see how downhill the Kiosk has gone... A very limited selection ( basic fish and chips), 2 chicken sandwiches left at 1 PM ( and off menu). NO salads, NO cakes... Ice creams from the fridge. I didn't dare to try the coffee... Maybe next time ?

The current conditions are probably limiting them a bit but the kiosk operation is serious expensive tourist cash-in style. You can sit outside but it's all takeaway and you need to be inside to hear your name. $18 for some thin strips of fish with chips. At least it was flathead and cooked crispy, plus the chips were crispy, so it's better than most tourist crud, but the price and service are unpleasant.

Fish of the day was excellent but the cost of a very bad creme brûlée at $16 was crazy.<br/>paper napkins and plastic kitchen salt shaker not nearly good enough to warrant the prices charged.

Breakfast this morning at The Nielsen which is at a beautiful location overlooking Shark Bay. I sat in side with my friends - a great room with nice stained glass windows overlooking the harbour. <br/><br/>The service was very prompt and the staff were super friendly. It was a bit strange that they didn’t offer any smoothies or fresh juices, it’s rare for breakfast places to miss these menu items these days. <br/><br/>Onto the meal, a very standard menu, classic items such as egg Benedict, avo toast etc. I ordered the eggs Benedict, and it came out pretty fast which was great. <br/><br/>I was very disappointed with what came out though. 2 poached eggs slapped on a half toasted English muffin (looked like it was just from coles or woolies) with some salmon chucked under the eggs and some hollandaise sauce slopped on top. That was it. No greenery whatsoever.<br/><br/>I would definitely hope they pick up their game in the kitchen as it seems like such a waste for the location and staff they have. Sorry to leave this kind of review but I feel like the management needs to know about the subpar food.

I really wasn’t expecting at a beach during school holidays to pop into a restaurant and for it to be so elegant. But it was. Fine dining in a lovely location and a very pretty old house at Nielsen Park. We opted for the lunch special which gave us a main, a side dish and a glass of wine ($39 each). We also had some delicious Sonoma Sourdough and some eggplant croquettes (I quite liked them but I think my friends weren’t as impressed). I had black mussels, which, coming with pieces of silver dory and calamari, was more like a seafood stew, then say, moules and frites. It was very tasty, as was the wine. My pals liked their meals too.

This place is simply amazing. Ambience, food, service, location, view everything is awesome. I visited the restraurant with my friend. We ordered tagliatelle basil pasta. It was mouthwatering. We can actually get the taste of each and every ingredient in the pasta. We also ordered profiterole (dessert). It was so good. The presentation of both the dishes was commendable. The staff was friendly and polite. You can actually go there for a date or party or just for chilling. It was quite peaceful. I will definetly recommend this place.

I didn't have the pleasure of dining here, but I ordered fish and chips from the limited takeaway menu from the attached kiosk on the beach.<br/><br/> The food which i didn't get a photo of was basic, not a fan of their fish and chips.. However i loved their Pork Belly burger which was a little confusing to find up on the blackboard but it was very tasty!  <br/><br/>The food inside the actual restaurant/cafe looks amazing though and i can't wait to come and try it out! As far as take-away goes, it's alright and maybe stick to the simple foods on offer.

Visited The Nielsen Cafe on a beautiful sunny day inside Nielsen Park. The place is opposite gorgeous the sandy beach and surrounded by green habitats. So you can either do sunbathing, have a quick dip, or get your gear in for your bush walk journey. The Nielsen only do takeaway cup, which is a shame because it doesn't match with the view. But maybe all that non-recycle wastes save them from the washing chores. Coffee is nice and they have delicious cakes as well. What a perfect location!

Gorgeous harbour beachside spot with great food.  We shared lunch today - a plate of fish and chips and the baked cabbage with yummy bits.  There were two generous pieces of fish which were crispy and tasty and good chips plus a decent cheek of lemon and tartare sauce.  The cabbage was a lovely surprise and delicious.  Looking forward to taking overseas visitors there.

Beautiful day to be by the water. The building is really the draw card here. Open, cool, non-air conditioned with amazing views of Vaucluse. The food wasn't bad either. I had the barramundi with mushroom and spinach ragout. The skin was crispy and the fish spot on ($32). Small serve so you defiantly need to add a side ($7.5). Service was pretty slack but friendly and coffee terrible but it really didn't matter with the view. Recommended. Will go again on a day like this.

Really great location to take guests from out of down. The food is pretty good, but I think the view is what draws and keeps people in. Decent coffee too.
Little Eats Sydney
Located on a perfect white sandy beach with million dollar views, Nielsen Park is the perfect destination for a family day out. The kiosk serves excellent Di Lorenzo coffee and snacks. Sit outside in the sunshine whilst the little ones play on the grass or on the beach below. <br/><br/>Nielsen Park is Sydney at its best! This beautiful, enclosed and protected beach has views of crystal blue water, boats and greenery.  It is also known as “Shark Beach” but don’t be alarmed as they have protective netting around the beach to protect swimmers. The white sand and gentle lapping waves make the beach perfect for children to explore and enjoy. The kiosk dates back to 1915 and was originally commissioned as a tea room and kiosk to the park’s visitors. It was so remote at this time that the lessee even had their own cottage to stay in behind the kiosk.

I dare say Nielsen Park Restaurant has just become my new city refuge and, of course, my number one summer lunch spot suggestion.<br/><br/>

the other go-to-dish is the slow cooked beef cheek with mash potatoes. The beef cheek was a beautiful melt-in-your-mouth piece of goodness. Even Monsieur – who’s not fond of slow cooked cuts – thought the flavours were beautiful!

Not really impressed. Drove two hours to visit this place and I should have stayed at home or gone through the drive through at maccas. The fish that I ordered was tasteless and almost cold, chips half soggy and a lemon wedge the size suitable for ants and the coffee I ordered was awful. The waiters were very helpful and friendly which was nice to see however the lady at reception wasn't enthused in the slightest and seemed to have misplaced her manners. Sadly I wouldn't come back here again.

Really good. Had a mezze plate and garfish with chips. Good generous servings. It was quiet and the food took a while but cooking was spot on.

Such a shame what's happened to this place. Where's the love? The restaurant bar area is cluttered, untidy and dirty looking. The food was very average and a very boring menu. The service was ok but the whole experience was so very dull. This place used to be a special place to visit. Come on guys, put love and passion back in. The view does most of the work for you. Good luck.

Left feeling unsatisfied .... Left feeling unsatisfied<br/><br/>I have been here quite regularly, these guys just can't seem to get it right which is disappointing because the food used to be quite good...<br/><br/>The salmon I ordered was quite small and dry like it was sitting out all day, we used to get a lovely salmon with coconut and mango instead of coleslaw..<br/><br/>But the biggest disappointment of all is the pavlova stack I received, dry frozen product I think... Not very nice. There was a time not so long ago they had all these unique desserts and pastries, if someone can tell me where they have gone I will surely follow.<br/><br/>Hope for better luck next time I visit. Fingers crossed.

I was in the table service section. I was served by a few very pleasant waitresses. A young blonde Australian girl and a sophisticated English Brunette. <br/><br/>Food was ok considering the location and price. My Salmon was nicely moist. Coleslaw was bland but not offensive. If you are looking for better value for money out of the food then you are eating in the wrong suburb. <br/><br/>I would happily go back again on a nice day.

Great Food, Unbeatable Service & An Exceptional View!. Nielsen Park Cafe was the perfect venue for our work Christmas Party! The food was delicious (not overpriced like most venues with a view!) and the staff were overly accommodating to our somewhat rowdy crew of 15. I had the salmon for my main meal, which was cooked to perfection & the pavlova stack for dessert was to die for! I'd recommend NPC to anyone wanting a great meal, with an unbeatable view of Sydney Harbour. We will all definitely be back!

I come here quite often, less frequently as time goes on. I don't understand what's happening to this place? A few months ago the food here was amazing now it's just boring. I would have stared at the menu for fifteen minutes, it's so hard to choose when nothing sounds very appetising.... Eventually I ordered the fish dish, it came with some kind of sweet and sour sauce? And a few pipis, needless to say it was awful. No flavour in the fish and everything soft and stodgy, all sauce no substance really, clearly not thought out very well, thoroughly did not enjoy it.<br/><br/>Really hope this place picks up soon.

What a waste...:( I came .... What a waste...:(<br/><br/>I came to Nielsen Park today for lunch today. The location is beautiful but the service and the food don't fit in with it at all.<br/><br/>The waitress was so abrupt and grumpy we instantly felt unwelcome and uncomfortable.<br/><br/>My wife ordered the baked fish and I ordered the salmon. Not at all what we were expecting at all, the baked fish was just a frozen fish fillet and a can of pasta sauce in a pot with a few dried out clams on top, and my salmon was cut on a bizarre angle (to create the illusion of size I guess?) it was overlooked, very flakey and dry and the worst of all it came out sitting on top of the mountain of coleslaw, really? I felt like I was eating at a pub. Really disappointed with this food. I won't be back here again, sorry guys.

DISAPPOINTING. I have been to Nielsen Park Cafe 3 times now and each visit has been as BAD as the last.<br/>Its a stunning cafe in a beautiful location but the food and service is just awful.<br/>The staff all look miserable and the couple I assume are the owners are always quite blunt and unpleasant.<br/>I fail to understand how such a beautiful cafe fell into the hands of people who clearly dont have passion for what they do.

Great view of the harbour, ok food (fish), and very slow service. Worthwhile if you're around, don't make an effort to get there though.

Disappointed. I read amazing reviews about Nielsen Park and having just moved to the area thought that I'd give it a go. 'Giving it a go meant waiting over 25 minutes for a takeaway coffee. The coffee was OK, just not worth the wait. It's a shame really, given it is a pretty cool little place.

Great view hence the crowd.... I'm sure this place was quite the treasure before it was 'discovered'. The view is amazing although it is quite a bit too busy for my liking. No such thing as a quick cup of coffee here!!! The food was decent although we felt the wait was excessive for the standard of meal served.

A hidden gem. Great food, great price, great service.... Oh yes and the location...

New Owners and it's Fantastic. Fantastic new menu and new owners who actually care about what they are serving and the price you are paying. There is money is serving great food at a reasonable cost and the new owners must know this. The best tempura battered flathead fish ( 3 pieces ) and hand cut chips ever and all for $12!!! See you over Summer.

Great View and pleasant retro atmosphere, the food is honest but not brilliant and the service is pathetic and they are critically in need of decent management initiatives. They have too much attitude for their own good, I cannot see how they can make a dollar with their over staffed under performing team. If you want take away coffee better order it a day in advance. Such a wasted opportunity.

Poor coffee and everything is overpriced .. Good view though
